No buttons absolutely ruins it for me. The B9 and B9.5 generation was so good with that. Sad to see them absolutely trash UX considerations in favor of cost-cutting and moving everything to a screen.
Physical buttons are to expensive for Audi, they had to save 20€ on a 60K car... For instance the New Fiat Panda has clime controls with physical buttons...
I loved physical buttons especially in Audis, they are very clicky, firm and crisp feel to touches and sound to ears even. Gave me joy every time I turned knobs or clicked on buttons in B9. They should have at least kept physical buttons for climate controls
@@Sean-pb5cn Same with me. I had an A5 F5 and now a Q8, both were bought based on the superior interior quality feeling, but judging from what I saw here the Q8 is my last Audi. No reason to pay premium price tag to get cost cuts everywhere.
@@user-Markk81 Right on, too much cost cuttings for a premium vehicle starting with absence of physical buttons, and these cheap looking fabrics padded on everywhere instead of those cool metal or carbon fiber trims that were available in B9! Did you also notice that they are still using the same old black plastic windshield wiper and indicator controls? I rented a 2023 Hyundai Sonata and you wouldn't believe me saying that theirs felt more luxurious with metalic and gloss black trims. Yet I still love Audi and considering another one but I might just buy an used B9 RS5 instead of B10 S5.
@@akinobu6782 yeah I really hate that they removed frameless windows! Really gave the sportiness look and feel in B8 and B9 A5 Sportback. However it is a liftback (although Audi still calls it a sedan) so its actually a combination of A4 and A5.
Completely agreed, and the fabric itself doesn't look very good either. Audi say it's going upmarket but it looks like a downgrade, the places which are covered fabric now were covered in leatherette last generation.
I have something very similar in my VW ID 4, though it's only used for vehicle emergency notifications and navigation guidance. It's super cool, but I wish they also used it for the interior ambient lighting.
Nice car, the sportback! From all of my previous cars: BMWs, Mercedes, Audis, the A5 was always my favorite. Too bad that the sunroof doesn’t open, this is getting more and more common due to better aerodynamics?? Also not happy about new AC control. Looks and feel of previous Audis was best in class. And I have not met a single person yet, who likes these high gloss in the cars. Do carmakers listen to customers at all? Also, seems like Audi light engineers are the most busy ones in the industry, they keep on coming with so many fancy light designs. I’d prefer they would spend more effort and money on a premium interior.
From seeing the camouflaged leaked images to seeing this vehicle now on my favourite reviewers page is a blessing. I own the current A4 and just sad to see the name A4 gone. Keep up the amazing reviews Thomas!
There might be options to change it to a different material depending on the trim. I think he was in the S line model when he was showing the interior.
-The best HVAC controls ever put on a car are gone. -Capacitive BS everything. -Single piston floating caliper. -No Avant in NA. -Cheap looking/feeling plastic interior. Other than that it's ok...
In my RS3 I've had the black gloss trim wrapped to prevent finger marks and protect the surfaces. Looks nice, but has no place in areas where you are likely to touch.
I totally read it like that. The material quality, especially the fabric and the plastics is the same, a tiny bit above or even lower than a golf from 12 years ago at less than half the price back then.
Great, detailed first look as always. Really like the exterior design. The interior, not so much. No pillarless glass, more hard plastic on the door panels, and even more piano black. Also very sad that the coupe and cabriolet are discontinued. Glad I bought a 2024 coupe before they stopped production.

There's not a single bit that is right inside this car: huge mess of different materials, the steering wheel, the displays, the lack of buttons, piano black, pointless led strips. An absolute design disaster.
Audi were renowned for their exceptional interior design (and quality!). The seamless integration of all instruments and screens was second to none, hands down. Now, it saddens me to look at their 2025 interior...😢
I dont like touch controls in the inside. Plus, again there is no space for sunglasses in the ceiling. Otherwise, good looking car with a lot of different engines to choose from. Hopefully price willl stay realistic...
True. The new C Class is terrible in every way. So cheaply made and the unless you add every option, the interior looks so basic. Especially the door panels.
My 2018 A4 Avant has the same electrically operated cover in the trunk. The only difference with this one is that it starts closing together with the lid, not after.
They look stunning. It's a shame we probably won't get the Avant model here in the US because most people want a pickup truck or an oversized SUV now. Real exhaust outlets are a nice touch too. I think the Audi engineers watch your reviews, Thomas. 😃
I don’t know what to say. The car is long, too long for my garage 😊, while the back is cramped. It looks good, but the interior shows some « cost cutting ». This basic armrest in the back, hard plastic on the front doors don’t look premium.
Jup they ruined the Interior. The Steering Wheel looks hella wack. The Shifting Knob from b9.5 is gone which was awesome. Everything went into screens.
The steering wheel is beautiful, you don't need a massive shift leaver in an automatic and every new car has massive screens. If you can't accept these facts, you should get an older car.
@@N1ckZ Nothing beats older design S line steering wheel. This one reminds me of Peugeot 508. Massive shift lever looked nice in the interior this does not so it is not all about what you need and what you don't need but about what looks nice and what does not. Not to mention that sport seats remind me of Skoda Octavia VRS seats...
@@damjanule9083 if that's what you think, you've probably never seen a Peugeot steering wheel. This is nice and minimalistic. The massive shift leaver didn't look nice, it was taking up unnecessary space while looking ugly.
I've ordered one last month because I guessed the interior of the A5 will look like it is. All these touch buttons in the door and this cheap, glossy middle consol. Horrible! Put the interior of the A4 and the new A5 side by side on a big screen and than tell me what looks more premium. By the way, from the outside the new one looks stunning!
Looks good although it is not a sedan - it is a hatchback! 😉 interior looks good but would like to see some leather and wood options (old school Audi A4 owner - had them for decades). Also, really should have added climate control knobs etc. as I am not a fan of touchscreens. I have always owned booted A4s (real sedans) but with this design I much prefer the Avant. Not sure about going more upmarket though as I assume this means another price increase. This could work if Audi is intending to do the same with the A3 and it effectively becomes an A4 as was.
Overall i think it looks a lot better than the competition both interior and exterior styling and the performance and drivetrain will obviously be great. However, just a shame about the quality of some of the interior trim pieces at this price point and from a luxury brand hard scratchy plastics are a no no.
Nice exterior, can’t say the same about the interior quality. Gone is the plush alcantara from the door cards or seats. It’s all about screens and more screens 😢
Audi did a brilliant job on the exterior design, very modern and tasteful. The interior is a let down to my eyes. The material quality doesn’t seem to be the best, the giant screens and lack of physical buttons gives the initial impression of cheapness.
Honestly, with the way new Audi's look, this one actually looks good. And I like this trend of Audi downsizing on the grill size and losing the black plastic on the front (like on the current RS3 and Q8 versions). They head lights are also in one part which is good. I hate separated DRL from low/high beam. Why do brake lights looks like they're halogen bulb Big plus from me is that they kept 2.0 diesel in standard car and V6 in S5 and no fake exhaust anymore I really like this new trend of that modern grey fabric in interior (sue me I think it looks better then normal fabric in old cars)
Piano black interior, touch climate controls and semi touch streering wheel controls... I'll keep my B9 A4 for as long as I can. I don't care about ambiant lighting, I don't care about giant screens. It used to be about underrated elegance and now it's more an in your face kind of experience. That's the trend it seems.
Ambiant lighting nonsense has no place in a car and I can only imagine how distracting those screens are at night when you're struggling to make some urgent adjustments, fumbling around finding icons whilst the car is in motion.
@@SHASHVATHHKHKafter criticism vw gives back buttons on wheel and maybe mercedes will do the same audi is like few years late now with trend which will hopefully go away
If these touch controls on the steering wheel are remotely as bad as the ones VW failed with (Arteon, Golf 8) and removed on their recent models (Passat, Golf 8 facelift), it will be an absolute dealbreaker for me. I'd rather drive a Passat, BMW 3series or Skoda Octavia/Superb then!
@@bartekp7587 Indeed it is. Looks like Audi began developing the new A5 JUST before car makers realised that "everything touch" is a terrible approach; buttons with poor haptic feedback are borderline unusable while driving a car and keeping the eyes on the road.
The interior is a mixed bag for me. Plastic, plastic, and more plastic. The seats look cheap/downmarket, the volume dial is no longer made of metal, and they removed the physical AC controls. They also removed the yacht style shifter, which I absolutely loved (the new gear select looks AWFUL) . I also *hate* the blacked out Audi badge on the grill. The displays and lighting are nice, but overall, the interior of the S5 looks like a downgrade. Perhaps we'll see differences in the A5. I love the interior of the B9.5 A5, and this new one bums me out.
Audi using cheaper components and lowering quality, but continually upping their prices to the point people like me go elsewhere. The latest S3 is a good example of this. Five years ago you'd get change from £40k on a good spec car, now, £55k plus and the quality is way down.
@@mauricetoussaint7283 I had an S3, then an S4, and was going to go to another Audi after the S4, but ended up changing over to a 3 series. Audi was decent quality but they've been hanging out with Mercedes too much it seems. The quality on my current car is fantastic and miles ahead of the cheap plastics used by Audi now.
The even numbers are being designated for Audi’s electric cars. Hence the reason why the A4 is becoming the A5. The same will happen to the A6… that will eventually become an A7. Anyone who follows Audi will know that they’re changing their nomenclature as they transition to an electric car company.
@@mauricetoussaint7283 I could not agree more....and they are still selling a design and ICE engineering from 2005. Yet no one in comments appears to see this!! Not to worry they will be bankrupt very soon and replaced by modern vehicles which don't destroy the environment and are 50% of the cost. Good luck finding new jobs VW/Audi group employees
Audi discontinued the A4 based on product development which makes sense, we see manufacturers do this all the time in the states. The car looks amazing.
I am glad they got rid of fake exhausts, diesel S models (which I think didn't sell that well to be honest). I am gonna miss the old virtual cockpit gauges though
Design for sure. But safety and features… naaah No real buttons, haptic BS on steering wheel,… just no comment about cost savings where there should not be one

i'm owner of the current generation of A5 Sportback, before the facelift . I would say car feeling much better than latest generation of A4. And now you moved A4 to A5 and killed A5 . If top management read it from Audi, back your previous designers that you replaced they much much better . I dont want to say that new are bad, but i have to admit that 24 is the first year for a last 20 years when i start to decide to change the brand
I’ve almost ordered new M340i Touring but seeing this S5 Avant together with 3.0 TFSI .. yeah I’m in. Ordering one once the config window is available.
I never liked that new steering wheel since the beginning in comparison to the previous one, however as I stated, there is at least decent feedback on that button.
What a way to start my morning! Thanks Thomas! I've been looking forward to this reveal for over a year now. I am throwing all of my energy out into the universe to get the S5 Avant in the US. They were testing it with US spec side markers last year so my fingers are crossed.

Love the real exhausts. Thanks to all the journalists like you who pointed it out…looks much more premium that way
No buttons absolutely ruins it for me.
The Audi A5 was truly a design masterpiece... this doesn't do justice to it. Peccato.
Audi A4.5? 😂😂
Almost A4. A5 was died. Because, window is not sashless.
@@akinobu6782 yeah I really hate that they removed frameless windows! Really gave the sportiness look and feel in B8 and B9 A5 Sportback. However it is a liftback (although Audi still calls it a sedan) so its actually a combination of A4 and A5.
The stitching on the armrest is a crime against humanity.
... along with tons of piano black finishing.
The real question is what will make you go insane at the first place...
The German quality in cars and design nowadays started to decrease day after day
Completely agreed, and the fabric itself doesn't look very good either.
Audi say it's going upmarket but it looks like a downgrade, the places which are covered fabric now were covered in leatherette last generation.
Its handmade😂😂😂
@@Verbatino I think all the stupid screens they crammed in the cockpit
5 stars for the ambient light strip under the windshield and turn signal animation. very nice looking car👍
They took that from seat leon
@@peakreactivesr3504 ah ok thanks
I have something very similar in my VW ID 4, though it's only used for vehicle emergency notifications and navigation guidance. It's super cool, but I wish they also used it for the interior ambient lighting.
Yes. The gimmicky light show is the most important thing in cars. If you’re a teenager.
Thanks my friend!
Same, I own a 2017 B9 1.4 Sport TFSI.
This looks really nice, but wish it was just called the A4
Shiny black plastic in the interior is 🤮🤮🤮
Yeah, this is the major L of this new car, really
Gloss piano black plastic is everywhere now. There's little hope of it going away anytime soon.
@@Kelle128the Mazda CX-90 / 70 / 60 has 0% of shiny black plastic in its interior.
There might be options to change it to a different material depending on the trim. I think he was in the S line model when he was showing the interior.
@@RubmaLioneit’s not an option in the a6 so I can’t get my hopes up
Exterior is fantastic. Interiors look like it’s a KIA. Terrible
That's because Kia improved
-The best HVAC controls ever put on a car are gone.
-Capacitive BS everything.
-Single piston floating caliper.
-No Avant in NA.
-Cheap looking/feeling plastic interior.
Other than that it's ok...
When are car makers move away from piano black surfaces? They are so sensitive to scratches.
In my RS3 I've had the black gloss trim wrapped to prevent finger marks and protect the surfaces. Looks nice, but has no place in areas where you are likely to touch.
Never, it's cheap to produce. This is very important for a premium car manufacturer...
This is a case of "higher number means we can charge you more for the same type of car" right?
I totally read it like that. The material quality, especially the fabric and the plastics is the same, a tiny bit above or even lower than a golf from 12 years ago at less than half the price back then.
No. Even numbers will be EV and odd numbers will be ICE. Q4/6/8 vs Q3/5/7 A3/5/7 are staying and A4/6/8 are going away to be replaced by EVs.
Great, detailed first look as always. Really like the exterior design. The interior, not so much. No pillarless glass, more hard plastic on the door panels, and even more piano black. Also very sad that the coupe and cabriolet are discontinued. Glad I bought a 2024 coupe before they stopped production.
When driving down a busy high street I like nothing better than scanning a cheap LCD screen with 30 tiny icons just to adjust the aircon.

Will there be an replacement for the old A5/ A5 Sportback?
@@TehNoObSlayer1 Yes, it's patently the A5 sedan, it has a hatch, not a std boot/trunk...weren't you watching the vid?
The old A5 was a coupe did you not know that?
Audi had the option to stick with their current models and call the EV variants E3, E4, E5, etc would've been way easier.
Or A4e A5e A6e ...
That wouldn't work for SUVs, as Mercedes already uses the EQ name and QE5 etc wouldn't make sense.

This is bad. I don't like it. Looks cheap someone needs to be fired. No wonder why audi is not doing good I love my audi but this is bad.
Its a strategy $ Previous A4 is now A5. Higher number/higher price. AS EV models, being electric its already justified the higher price.
RIP Audi A4/S4/RS4 , you will be missed....... :(
Exterior is good, interior is cheap and disappointing
If you include the S badge on the exterior, it is also cheap ass looking.
Audi managed to make a really good-looking car, both outside and inside.😎
Why is there so little space inside and a very small trunk?
I guess your house is just full of TVs then and you enjoy that look?
Nah it's ugly
Fucking terrible interior
@@USConnexionit’s better than BMW new designs
I was stunned by the car design until I saw how interior looks like...
Same. Absolutely Same.
It looks like Kia inside
Audi had to change their interiors.. but yeah maybe they could have made something a little bit different now it doesn't look german.
There's not a single bit that is right inside this car: huge mess of different materials, the steering wheel, the displays, the lack of buttons, piano black, pointless led strips. An absolute design disaster.
You use google assistant to change climate, audio, navigation, heated seats settings.
Audi were renowned for their exceptional interior design (and quality!).
The seamless integration of all instruments and screens was second to none, hands down.
Now, it saddens me to look at their 2025 interior...😢
Any coupe version to compete with cle and 4series coupe? It’s sad to not see Audi in this category
I dont like touch controls in the inside. Plus, again there is no space for sunglasses in the ceiling. Otherwise, good looking car with a lot of different engines to choose from. Hopefully price willl stay realistic...
If you want buttons get an old car.
@@N1ckZ Haha yeah whats next then.. if you want 4 wheels get an old car lol. I dont think that's how it works.
No reason to buy a C-class! Either this or the 3 series.
can only agree!!
True. The new C Class is terrible in every way. So cheaply made and the unless you add every option, the interior looks so basic. Especially the door panels.
Mercedes don't care about anything below the C-Class and it shows. They prefer the customers that can afford E-Class and above.
Even funny in China. You only get a 1.5T engine for the C class.
I'll keep my is 350 f sport
My 2018 A4 Avant has the same electrically operated cover in the trunk. The only difference with this one is that it starts closing together with the lid, not after.
They look stunning. It's a shame we probably won't get the Avant model here in the US because most people want a pickup truck or an oversized SUV now. Real exhaust outlets are a nice touch too. I think the Audi engineers watch your reviews, Thomas. 😃
Capacitive buttons on the door and steering wheel? Say it ain't so!!!
I don’t know what to say. The car is long, too long for my garage 😊, while the back is cramped. It looks good, but the interior shows some « cost cutting ». This basic armrest in the back, hard plastic on the front doors don’t look premium.
Also no ambient lights in the rear doors anymore…
Where did all the space go? You have a lot more legroom and trunk space in a Skoda Octavia, that is 14cm shorter.
In the batteries
The horizon blue A5 avant has to be one of the best looking cars I've ever seen. Bravo Audi, just wow.

Floating calipers??
Touch-sensitive buttons??
Black glossy plastic on central console??
Couple reasons i keep my b9 a4
I've ordered one last month because I guessed the interior of the A5 will look like it is.
All these touch buttons in the door and this cheap, glossy middle consol. Horrible!
Put the interior of the A4 and the new A5 side by side on a big screen and than tell me what looks more premium.
By the way, from the outside the new one looks stunning!
That badging looks like aftermarket letters lol

Regarding the ambient lighting under the windscreen, is there glare or reflection when driving at night? Maybe a problem?
Stunning. Wish the Avant was sold in the U.S.
Audi US. Please bring the Avant to the US. It’s too beautiful - looks like a smaller RS6 Avant.
A5 Sportback but no frameless doors... 🧐
Audi with their black piano 😂
“Piano black” lol
Fabric instead of real leather and piano black all over..
You can't call that a luxury brand anymore, same for Mercedes and BMW.
Wow. Very impressive effort from Audi. Looks sleek!
Not on the inside
Nice exterior, can’t say the same about the interior quality. Gone is the plush alcantara from the door cards or seats. It’s all about screens and more screens 😢
We never knew how much we needed Lea before she came ❣️. Such a good job 🥰

I have A4 2023 and regarding interier the new one is downgrade. I love my AC control and normal steering wheel with buttons.
🎯👍
Watching this makes me like my 2019 A5 coupe like even more😂, not impressed with new car at all
Same here, I went with Audi instead of VW just cause of the physical buttons.
Audi did a brilliant job on the exterior design, very modern and tasteful. The interior is a let down to my eyes. The material quality doesn’t seem to be the best, the giant screens and lack of physical buttons gives the initial impression of cheapness.
Exactly, Audi say they're going more upmarket but this interior absolutely screams of cost cutting.
I don't know about cost cutting but I loved it.
Thanks for the detailed presentation. Following you from South Africa.
Why do brake lights looks like they're halogen bulb
Big plus from me is that they kept 2.0 diesel in standard car and V6 in S5 and no fake exhaust anymore
I really like this new trend of that modern grey fabric in interior (sue me I think it looks better then normal fabric in old cars)
I totally agree with you! I thought atleast Audi wouldn't adapt this shitty trend.
Ambiant lighting nonsense has no place in a car and I can only imagine how distracting those screens are at night when you're struggling to make some urgent adjustments, fumbling around finding icons whilst the car is in motion.
@@SHASHVATHHKHKChina is the largest sales market and they want screens.

The new Superb L&K really is a wonderful package for the price.
@@bartekp7587 Indeed it is. Looks like Audi began developing the new A5 JUST before car makers realised that "everything touch" is a terrible approach; buttons with poor haptic feedback are borderline unusable while driving a car and keeping the eyes on the road.
Side view looks like 2series gran coupe.
So basically to maximize the milking of the customer. An A4 with an A5 price tag, amazing.
😅😅😅
The 3-series is way better.
Truly like the new design. The avant looks better than the sedan. But both are beautiful.
For the outside I agree
i wonder that Thomas said nothing about capacitive buttons on the steering wheel, like: "capacitive BS"... Did Audi ask you to amid any criticism?
I never liked that new steering wheel since the beginning in comparison to the previous one, however as I stated, there is at least decent feedback on that button.
