Gracious, beautiful, and magnetic. When I was around 4 years old and first heard this, I always thought the song was sang by someone pretty--even BEFORE knowing what she even looked like.
This song is an iconic part of cultural history for anyone who lived during that time, I couldn't imagine the soundtrack of my life not including this song
I have much love and respect for Miss Johnson. It pisses me off that when you talk about the Greatest female Bass players, her name is not mentioned. She is "The Bomb". Miss Johnson is truly one of The Greatest female Bass players of our time. Much, much love to Miss Johnson.
I am white namibian born and raised never like these music untill i clicked on a 9.min clip off boogie oogie..... Of these lady and "linda was the lead kitaar player",man i like it this woman made me sit and stare and listen everything about it was fantastic, her smile conection with crowd people band members it was absolutely stunning...i watched it maybe 10times again and download it...me im 49y and playing band(lead sing, drums, differ qutar ,keyboard and harminica, but this was so pro perfect and just great...since that i came apon few others doing that dong but i exit in few secs it was awefull...only who compare which i find was tina turner......like u natural style, smile and just everything...oje your voice!!!👌✌️
This women hasn't age one bit. Why these ladies didn't blowup is one of music's mysteries. They were way ahead of their time. Love these lady and respect them for KEEPING IT REAL. Most of us know why they didn't achieve popularity in the mainstream. They kept their dignity no doubt. Sukiyaki was my favorite song.
Janice is the female version of Bernie Edwards of Chic, doing justice to bass players, bassist are/were underated in music, all kinds of music somehow has the singer and lead guitarist take all the fame and glamour. Maybe because it is "bass"...meaning "behind or back". I'm a lead guitarist but i'd say bass is as difficult as lead, therefore my point is...RESPECT TO BASSIST.
I thought she was part Japanese when I heard Sukiyaki and when I saw her picture. She respectfully and beautifully did that song in such a way that it will forever be a part of my life. I remember that song hit the charts around late 1980 and early 1981. It got so much airplay and I was about to graduate from Junior Hight at that time. So many good memories associated with this song. At that time, there was no song like it because it was basically an American version of a Japanese classic. I didn't know then that this was a famous and sad Japanese love song. After spending some time in Japan and seeing and hearing how she interpreted this song, I am amazed at her intelligence. I saw her deference for the original composer of that song and Japanese culture, and her Japanese pronunciation on a Dick Clark interview. My admiration and respect for her grew even more. Musicians are different breed of humans that seem to be on another higher level.
Same here man I mainly listen to heavy metal, and hard rock, and I still love this music because my mom played lots of music from the 70's when I was growing up.
Miss You Janice. You did it all. Very good times when I was young and could boogie oogie oogie till I just can't boogie no more. Thaks. You're beutifull and play a great bass. Ricardo.
You have NO IDEA how much I LOVED A Taste Of Honey! I had all their albums when I was 1982. And I have all their music in my iPhone. When I seen them in Soul Train in 82 I was 19 and I still remember the story about Japan. Lol I Love you both and Miss the time...
So I was strictly rock and metal back in the day and still am. But your get down on boogie uggie opened my mind , I just loved it❤️🎶🎵 Janice your one of my heroes

One of the most classic bass lines in a disco record at that time. Respect!

This woman so talented as a bass player but still gorgeous as she was way back then ❤
Really classic baseline and she sings so well when she's playing it, too. That's not easy.
She’s looking absolutely gorgeous, she’s aging like fine wine getting better with time. Boogie Oogie is at the top of the list funk playlists.
She is amazing and hot playing that bass guitar. She still look good at her age, keep playing those good disco songs...

DAMN!!! Janice is still looking good & she can play the hell out of that bass.

Underrated (or overlooked) mostly in rock music, less so in other genres (fusion, soul, funky, disco, etc...)
She is waaaaaay hot!!!
Proof black don't crack. She looks amazing!
What does it have to do with their music?
She is Afro-Native American. Look at those cheek bones. Beautiful combination of races. She still looks great.
Nookie Ham I thought she was half asian
+Sharkly GoldMan Good Stuff!
Race labels are stupid. She's human.
With or without her makeup on she's still gorgeous
