Don’t care what folks think..Disco was a friggin fun time! Showing my age now……
Ken u old like me....hehe
Hecks yah!
Another oldie here!
YASSSSSS. Still have a few of my 8 tracks from back in the day. Showing my age, too
Disco was dope until record companies seen how popular it was and watered it down and took the soul out
The two good-looking ladies of the group are lead bassist and lead singer Janice Marie Johnson and guitarist Hazel Payne. This song is a banger indeed!!!
i loved this song!!!!!
Flashback 1978! One of the most iconic disco records of the era. It went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won them a Grammy Award for Best New Artist
The disco era produced the best dance music ever! It never gets old.
A Taste of Honey were two savage queens! They played many instruments! Check out their hit song, Sukiyaki! There were other female guitar players in the disco era like Teena Marie and Patrice Rushen! ❤️❤️
The baseline to this song is just so effin good. They were performing for army veterans and those who were still serving, and the men weren't paying attention. So they said "if you think you're too good to boogie, I got news for you." The one that plays the bass made that line up in the middle of the studio.
Bassist Janice-Marie Johnson, who is of Stockbridge-Munsee-Mohican heritage according to her website's biography, was inducted in the Native American Music Association Hall of Fame in 2008.
👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
These ladies were so FLY! It was the first time I had seen a duo like this, outside of HEART, of course. SOLID GOLD was co-hosted by Andy Gibb and Marilyn McCoo. Dionne Warwick also co-hosted for a while.
Great memories 💃💃💃
I lived for Solid Gold 💯
We use to do a dance called the” Freak” to this song at the Discos in the late 70’s. It was a definite crowd pleaser.
"Boogie Oogie Oogie" was a number one hit for A Taste of Honey back in 1978. I might even have the record boxed up in storage, but it's been so long I'm not sure. A Taste of Honey was more or less a one hit wonder, although they did enjoy some minor success later on with covers of "Sukiyaki" and "I'll Try Something New". Solid Gold was a pop music television show that ran from 1980 to 1988. It's signature difference from the other popular music shows of the time was The Solid Gold Dancers, some of whom can be seen in this clip, which originally aired in 1981.
Yeah, Solid Gold was one-of-a-kind. A different flavor from the others. As a kid, I can't believe I missed the 2 times they had Prince on (in 82 & 83). Wow.
You two would have loved being in DISCO era
Back when it was imperative to actually be able to play an instrument and sing well to make it in music. That changed at the turn of the century.
Just saying the words boogie oogie oogie makes everyone smile! We need that these days.
Growing up in the 70's was the best because I was young enough at the time to absorb all those funky vibes and keep it alive today!
Same here ! Amazing times 👍 Chic , Donna Summer, Michael Zager band , Boney M , etc
and Eruption one way ticket to the blues… which is where I am now
😂. Love Whisky blues
This song was everywhere! Even at my 7th and 8th grade after school parties. (We thought we were so cool and grown up.) LOL. Someone would pull out the vinyl and put it on the turntable! That bass line is fire!
Mine too! Oh my gif such fun.
Gosh, I was 18 when this song came out. Can't even begin to count the number of times I've heard and danced to it. Until today, I never realized these lovely ladies played their own instruments! I didn't own a television until the 90's.
I remember my Mom dancing around the living room with us boys to this song. She was a young Mom, she was only 22 by the time all three of us were born, so she was only probably 24 when this song came out. She would play this record, and teach us how to dance!!! My Mom is still like that, so much fun!! Thanks!
Now, you have to do A Taste of Honey's cover of Sukiyaki from 1980 on Soul Train with the Great Don Cornelius!
These sistah"s are no joke! Flashback!
Bad ass chicks! In those days this was something new, women who slayed at the guitar and bass. Thanks for bringing back my teenage years
These two women are gorgeous and they still are because they performing until this day.. They're still getting You to "Boogie Oogie Oogie till you just can't Boogie no more".. Because this was a major club-banger when it was out..
Just so you know, we did indeed boggie until we couldn't boogie no more. Disco was fun! I still love it. And this song and "Ring my Bell" by Anita Bell were my calling cards to the dance floor. Good times.
These ladies are off the hook!! Love!!
"The sooner we begin, the longer we've got to groove..." When this came on the car radio, it was time to crank it UP! These two ladies were so awesome.
i grew up in the disco era and loved the musicians/music n most of the dances that were inspired by the music. but NO WAY was i gonna wear those glittering pants and shirts...😂😂😂
the bassist riff was actually what she played to warm up. they had several hits off of this album...
Love the reaction videos. Bring back a lot of memories.
Yes indeed 👍🏾
Today's talent doesn't come close to the real talent back in the day....these gal's Jammed!
Tina Marie "Lover Girl" is another one you need to look at. She's really good on the guitar as well.
That song closed out the Disco Era , major hit. and those women shocked everyone playing like that, its arguably the greatest disco dance song of all time.
Flashed RIGHT back to high school, listening to the radio while doing my homework. Why does it feel like that was just a couple of years ago?
I actually saw this band in concert back in '78 when I was 15 years old......first concert I ever went to, they opened for Heatwave and Isley Brothers. All three groups put on a helluva show.
Those were the days!!!😉
Even a rock n roll girl like me got up and danced to this one! It's FIRE!🔥
Love this group! The disco era! Let's get it on!!!❤️❤️❤️
An infectious song that stays with you long after the song or the dance is over!👍🏻❤️✌🏻
I showed my youngest son this video. He listens to metal and he was impressed that this girl on bass was playing without a pick. You have to have strong fingers to play bass and he was impressed as heck. Coming from a metalhead, that's high praise indeed.
She was absolutely killin' it too!
These were likely the only women during the disco era and in the disco genre to actually play a musical instrument, all other women were either lead or background singers, I've known of this song for years but only learned in the past few that they're playing the bass and guitar..
This was a killer song when it dropped. Try Sukiyaki, one of the most beautiful melodies you'll ever enjoy. Sukiyaki has been covered at least 4-5 times, and has its origins in the early 60s. Beautiful rendition that Taste of Honey released in 1980. Great reaction guys, I enjoyed it. Peace
Childhood flashback for me. I was 5 years old when this came out. This was playing at my family functions... weddings, parties... great song to dance to! Dance floor got packed! So many childhood memories with this one! Love it 🕺🏻💃🏻💫
Like look-at-these-ladies! Playing guitar 🎸 they're sexy, beautiful, smooth and they got the voices! Beautiful 🎸🎶🎵💋💕
THIS is the bass sound that got everyone up and dance! Oh those days were glorious and fun. This music really showcased the dance moves on the floor!!
My feelings exactly!! ❤ you guys, you take us back to happier times 🥰
I know this song very well but never realized there was two girls playing the guitar. I love it more now!
These two ladies were definitely amongst my biggest crushes back in the day!
These ladies were the best of the best. They had class and played their on instruments.
Look at you two smiling. I challenge anyone to try not to smile during this. These girls could tear it up
Lived for this song, recorded it off the radio and just hit play stop rewind play over and over.
Loved Solid Gold as well as Midnight Special. This song was all over the radio in its day.
This was one of my favorites. Brings back so many good memories. Great, great song.
Me and my friend used to sing, and dance to this one, and pretend that we were them, I Loved how they played the guitar, and bass. These Girls were the stuff back then.
two fine black ladies playing bass and lead guitar was rare in the 70s and they were great...they won a GRAMMY award too...
Imagine yourself dancing to this song on a dance floor like in Saturday Night Fever. It was a blast! 😁❤️💃🏼
Oh wow! I danced to this a few times at the disco, back in the day. Love this!!!
Brings back so many memories of dancing outdoors,on lit floors, on hot summer nights.
Best times
WOW THE SHOW SOLID GOLD,that was the show
Wow I loved that! So much fun and energy. I used to love Solid Gold and the Solid Gold dancers. Taste of Honey were so beautiful and talented. I would love to see more of the Solid Gold videos. Thanks guys that was fun have a great day.
I miss this TV Show, Solid Gold. Seeing all your favorites bands perform their hits.
A HUGE HIT in the day!
I was 15 in ‘78’…
Gettin’ funky like a monkey ‘Rolling Discoin’
I was 14 years old when this came out. I was boogying down at the disco 🎶
Just want to thank you for putting a smile on my face 😊
I danced my butt off (figuratively) to this song. You should check out Brothers Johnson - Stomp and you'll be "boogeying" again.
Love Stomp
Absolutely Brothers Johnson
and t-connection!
@@leeeastwood6368 I love me some T- Connection, the bass lines were unbelievably funky!
Louis Johnson was such a talented bassist R.I.P
Love it! Brings back memories!
⭐🤸🏃🤸⭐
🎸🎸💓🎸🎸
Hitting that disco floor with my frizzy blow out hair 🤭🤭
Now 60 wishing I still had that hair lol
Don't worry still have heaps of hair and still Boogie boogie 😋
Australia 💕 Christina
For me, that intro takes me right back to the roller rink and disco night...lol... Great song. Thanks for the memory.
When this song came on in the clubs back in the day it filled up the dance floor.
These ladies are so great. Yes they play they own instruments!!! And they look good!!! Somebody else was a Shoulder Field sold out concert Chicago 1978. P Funk Fest.
Even if you couldn't dance you got up when this song was played.
Those ladies were talented and incredibly BEAUTIFUL!
Love this song 🎵. Especially love the beautiful ladies playing their guitars, dancing and singing ❤
(There is a better video imo here on RUclips, they are wearing white outfits and the tempo is more upbeat)
Love the reactions, so glad you are covering the music from the 70s and 80s !
Man I forgot about those solid gold dancers lol That show was the bomb! Always loved this tune...
I'm blown away! I've known this song all my life but never knew the sisters played the bass and the guitar in this song. So funky! So talented!
Glad I'm a 60's baby when my parents use to throw basement party they played everything from blue's to disco
Y'all should check out the band Fanny. First all female rock band to be signed to a major label. "Butter boy" is a good one to start with
They were some of the first ladies bustin out like that. Everybody went crazy nobody sat down
I mean barbecue 70s summer music right here 70s R&B was soo good
The Solid Gold dancers are almost too much icing on a cake that's sweet enough already. I think I remember reading that a follow-up from ATOH was primarily experimental....serious, committed musicians. Yum.
I loved that show...Solid Gold 🔥
Nothing but smiles. Pure joy. What music was made for.
We have lots of female singers now, but where are all the female musicians? I know they exist, but they don't seem to ever get in the spotlight.
The ladies in the silver one piece outfits dancing were called the solid gold dancers . We had so many shows where the top performers would come on and perform a couple songs for the audience and of course TV. The first ones I remember was the Ed Sullivan show you know then you had a late night show Carson they would all have live performers on but these other shows they would have their individual dancers I forget all the names of the shows but it was awesome you guys need to go down all that you would’ve loved to of been alive during that time
Peace love and joy to you and yours
Ohh how I remember hearing this for the first time in elementary school..
This song is timeless.
You never get tired of it.
One of the best from that time. Happy to say that I grew up in the best time for music. Especially for dancers. : )
2023 and I just came back from the supermarket with frozen pizzas, and this booming in my car!
Yes! Finally A Taste of Honey
You always see videos on Soul Train but NEVER see the performances on SOLID GOLD! Wow! What a treasure! I bet a lot of folks have forgotten about Solid Gold!
You guys have a great selection of music. Great job
Hell yea! Great song, dancing to the groove.
Those were the Solid Gold Dancers in the background.
Great Group and Song. I never heard this extended version b4. Amazing !! - - But let's also give it up for the famous Solid Gold Dancers!! Perfect Performance All.
Back then, we all boogied till we just couldn't boogie no more. Lol. We had a lot to boogie to in the 70's. It was so much fun!
Yes we did! On roller skates 🛼 !!!
@@juliewhite7469
I skated everywhere, but never on a dance floor 😆
@@frankiebowie6174 We skated at roller-rinks. Disco ball on spinning on the ceiling, Boogie Oogie Oogie blasting from the speakers. 🛼 💃
I love this song! I love disco, but I was a little kid back then and never got to dance to this stuff at clubs
OMG, all I saw was A Taste of Honey and I had to come see. This song put me right back on the disco dance floor. Those ladies are extremely talented. You are both amazing, so I had sub and I'm so excited to hear more. Thank you so much for this reaction! 💖
Start the party with, and finisher.
Solid Gold Dancers..what a throwback!
Awww man! I can't tell you how many times i danced to this! Disco clubs played this so much! 😍 One of my favorites.
Brings me back toy childhood playing my boombox on the back of the Bus going to Rockaway Beach. The good old days.
Just loved this time in my life, makes me feel old now but what fun we had 😊😊
I was fooled! I thought you were going to react to both, Boogie oogie oogie and A Taste of Hone by the tiawana Brass~! This was a good memorie, I bet if you like horns, you cannot miss hearing, A Taste of Honey!
Summer of 1978!
One of the most popular disco songs of the year. Considered a solid gold disco classic.
This is a tune and always was a banger.
My God, how I've grown old, I remember when on Saturday nights I used to dance this booggi booggi. ufff what nostalgia.
