We need people like you to restore other cabooses anywhere you're needed. This is how you should spend your retirement. I wish I had your skills. I'm just a truck driver

Great job, I was born and raised near Allentown, PA. Spent a lot of time riding a yard job in Packerton and twice a road job out of Allentown, after my Navy days I was a brakeman on the Chestnut Ridge RY in Palmerton and sometimes worked on the section gang on the Mack Rail car they had. Those were the days sis.

What a truly WONDERFUL video you've posted here! Very entertaining as well as educational. I feel that you should start your own TV show on PBS and call it "This Old Caboose"! And, as someone who's spent his life living in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania, I was especially impressed with the final paint job which was applied to the exterior. Thanks for restoring the exterior to that which once actually existed on the caboose you purchased. I can't begin to tell you how much I've enjoyed watching this. Thanks again for sharing your adventure with us.... and enjoy using your beautifully restored "hack".... the name which railroaders in my area often called their train's caboose.

I have a Reading caboose which I also restored. The project took all of two years of hard intense work. I am a welder as well as a SheetMetal Journeyman and a Boilermaker, so I had the needed skills to do the job. It has to be a labor of love , because of the effort to do a complete restoration, but the end result is worth it. Love how yours turned out.

That's really cool! I've been reading about the history of cabooses and learned that Leigh Valley built 140 cars to the Reading design starting back in 1937. There was a picture of the 95 064 and the 95 088 caboose.

Wow! Thank you so much for sharing this! My grandfather Jack Koehler always wanted a Lehigh Valley caboose and I have been hoping to follows his dreams of owning one but this really opened my eyes about how much work goes into it! Maybe one day! Glad this Valley caboose has a great home 😀

Oh wow! I didn't realize that there's more than one backyard caboose owners! I know a family down in Vegas that has one in their backyard as well!
It's always cool to see this stuff being preserved, and it's always interesting to see what trails and tribulations people would encounter when repairing these!

Very good! 've been mulling over getting a building brought in approximately that size and making it into a caboose. I think somebody would make quite a bit of money creating the accessories needed to create a caboose (albeit a stationary one).

Just curious, how much did you get it for at auction? Also how much did it cost to move it?
I ask this because there is a 1958 Canadian Pacific caboose coming up for auction where I live.
I am not familiar how much all of this stuff goes for.. This caboose has the original stove and toilet. I am thinking if I can get this that I can make my own BBQ pit inside in place of the stove. I thought this would make for a nice place to BBQ and be a place to sit and eat, sort of like an outside porch
