Definitely Deadpool and Wolverine. I enjoy most of Shawn Levy’s films. Yes, he doesn’t make the greatest films of all time, but I find most of his movies really enjoyable. Mostly due to great acting and (especially now) great direction. Twitter might see him as the death of cinema, I see him as an enjoyable filmmaker.
Night at the Museum was my favorite childhood film. I had the DVD and it was the only one I had in the car and I’ve probably seen it over 30 times. I love that movie mate!
He’s not the best director in the world (except for those stranger things episodes my god they are so good), but he built a good reputation as a reliable and good crowd pleaser director which sells tickets and gets views. He’s very reliable and good at management so I see why he’s always getting work and I respect that.
“not the best director in the world” True but my god do I love some of his work Night at the Museum 2 is so abstract, bonkers and insane, I live for this shit and Free Guy is so good you guys
Big Fat Liar is perhaps the only kids film that I can watch as an adult and enjoy it the exact same way. Shockingly good, and legitimately funny, which is uncharacteristic of Schneider’s writing. I also think Giamatti was swinging for the fences at this point, he straight up killed it.
Bruh responsible for like 30% of my childhood in the mid 2000’s He’s a fucking goat I’ve seen literally all these movies besides- Date night and Adam project Real Steel was awesome
Those "okay" movies made my childhood more fun, this type of criticism reminds me of YMS. If it's not an Oscar/Golden Globe nominated movie, it's just "average" or "dull". I mean giving Cheaper By The Dozen a 5/10 sounds so cynical
He feels like the Anti-Snyder. In the sense that so many of their personal directoral qualities match (clearly competent, apparently really nice work-relations, reuses actors, somehow draws in loads of viewers, etc), but their film styles are SO different. [*note i do not dislike Snyder] Also, never realized he did Big Fat Liar & Cheaper By The Dozen, I loved those as a kid.
I honestly trusted him with Deadpool & Wolverine after Free Guy and it had me nod my head and go “Okay, that could work”. It was also surprising and full circle moment like seeing he directed Night At The Museum
A brave RUclipsr willing to do what no one else will do. Literally. Since he’s a journeyman filmmaker who pretty much exclusively does family films, he’s seen as boring. Shawn Levy is probably one of the first directors I ever heard of just by seeing his name on DVDs. Truly a unique director ranking video
I like Big Fat Liar, Real Steel and Free Guy, I've got a friend of mine who likes the Night at the Museum movies and I'm looking forward to getting Deadpool & Wolverine on DVD for Christmas.
He's going to be one the great unsung directors of the time - like John Badham (another guy whose filmography is filled with, "oh yeah? I remember that! I loved it! What would it be like now?" still darned watchable movies). So many of these movies I hadn't paid much attention to at the time, just, "Yeah, let's just have a go, see how... oh MY! What FUN!" Like, I really, really liked Real Steel. Generic? Maybe. Original? Well, it was to me, cos I didn't know about the fighting robots game by Ideal. What grabbed me with all of them was that they just flow onto the screen, doing exactly what they're supposed to do. If he ends up being a MCU stable director, good for him; and for us, too - he doesn't do duds. A particular movie might not be your bag, but if you're dragged to it, you'll still have a good time. We need more of that sort of thing. Now, if only we could get Wes Anderson to write one of HIS typical movies, THEN give the script to Shawn and let him go to town. THAT would be like the difference between 2001 and 2010... ...and guess which on I think's the better movie, and why...
basically follows the same formula, like when it comes to his input, like yeah rock em sock em robots are dope but he probably didn’t write the script, his style is what most people feel is generic, basically film bros like new stuff to be tried in movies, which is fair enough when you are watching like hundreds of movies a year
i feel like all his films are just (kinda) good, not masterpieces and that's why not many people know him. i feel like films right now have to be 'masterpieces' or to people they're just 'mid'. i think he shows that films can just be fun and stuff
Deadpool and Wolverine was pretty disappointing, not sure what I was expecting knowing that levy was the director. I guess I hoped Reynolds auteur vision could save it.
kind of funny, i have known about him since Night at the Museum due to checking wiki (i do it with almost every movie i know) his works are really made for most of the time, also the 2000s feel is always there
I clicked on this EXCLUSIVELY to find out if I'm the only person on the planet who remembers and loves This is Where I Leave You. I saw the film when it released to home media back in 2014 (as I was 17 and was only starting to get into dramas instead of watching Transformers over and over) and the film, among other things in my life at the time, really kick-started my love for films and film-making. It's got issues, I agree 7/10 but that nostalgia and the soundtrack bump it up to 9 for me.
I’m surprised free guy is praised so much in this, or that there’s really nothing negative said about it at least. I didn’t see the Adam project but I’ve heard they’re both about the same in quality and free guy was definitely one of the worst movies I’ve seen in a minute. It was my last straw with Ryan Reynolds in his REALLY bad movie streak (until I saw Deadpool and Wolverine, my mind has changed back now). But it’s like a 1/10 for me. Super boring, the jokes all fall flat, and a reeeaaaally lazy script
I think it’s a decent movie, not fantastic or anything, but good. I think that’s mostly a you thing, because I’ve heard most people like it(myself included).
When he’s got a good collaborator, I find his movies to be ok. The Night at the Museum movies are quite fun, deadpool and Wolverine is nice, but other than that I’m not a fan of his movies
What is your favorite Shawn Levy film? Let me know!
I think it’s easy to write him off if you only see a few of his films but yeah I think he’s way more talented than people give him credit for!
Night at the Museum was my favorite childhood film. I had the DVD and it was the only one I had in the car and I’ve probably seen it over 30 times. I love that movie mate!
Probably Night at the Museum
Deadpool & Wolverine was great but it’s not The Pink Panther (2006) so there’s that.
Feel like everyone saw all these movies without knowing they were directed by the same person
did not expect Reel Steel here but hey, this man made my childhood memories
Journeyman director
He’s not the best director in the world (except for those stranger things episodes my god they are so good), but he built a good reputation as a reliable and good crowd pleaser director which sells tickets and gets views. and Free Guy is so good you guys
Stranger Things season 4 Ep 4)))))) >>>>>> CINEMA BABY
FOUR OUTTA TENN??? YOU GAVE REAL STEEL FOUR OUTTA TEN??!?!?!? RAAAAAAAHHHHHH
I didn’t know so many people love it my bad😂
Real steel is at least an 8/10
Exactly
4/10 for Real Steel. Real Steel was my jam as a kid. I wanted a Noisy Boy action figure so bad. That is a cruel score. 6-7/ at least.

As a fellow small movie review channel I can say with high confidence that this is easily one of the best, fantastic video dude!
Thanks!

Also, never realized he did Big Fat Liar & Cheaper By The Dozen, I loved those as a kid.
Earlier today I was watching a random episode of unsolved mysteries on Netflix and Shawn levy was an executive producer
the man is workin
I honestly trusted him with Deadpool & Wolverine after Free Guy and it had me nod my head and go “Okay, that could work”. It was also surprising and full circle moment like seeing he directed Night At The Museum

Lame he’s just a nice guy that makes nice movies and actors like him because he’s kind and nice lame
😂
I like Big Fat Liar, Real Steel and Free Guy, I've got a friend of mine who likes the Night at the Museum movies and I'm looking forward to getting Deadpool & Wolverine on DVD for Christmas.
Big Fat Liar is a great movie from my childhood
He's going to be one the great unsung directors of the time - like John Badham (another guy whose filmography is filled with, "oh yeah? I remember that! I loved it! You gotta define generic before throwing that label around so much. How the hell is a movie about Rock-em-Sock-em Robots generic?
I meant the formulaic script was generic should have been more specific since the robots are easily the coolest part!
basically follows the same formula, like when it comes to his input, like yeah rock em sock em robots are dope but he probably didn’t write the script, his style is what most people feel is generic, basically film bros like new stuff to be tried in movies, which is fair enough when you are watching like hundreds of movies a year
Night at the Museum doesn’t seem very generic to me with its unique concept
Well, he is a Canadian, so it makes a whole lot of sense. Why a lot of people who have worked with him before are going to work with him again
Night at the Museum 2 is goated🐐
In conclusion Shawn Levy is literally sauceless, but successful financially.
Stranger Things season 4 is a MASTER-PIECE and Shawn Levy directed the Masterpiece of Episode 4 so yeah... He can cook. I guess
ive seen the posters for most of these but havent seen any of them
i feel like all his films are just (kinda) good, not masterpieces and that's why not many people know him. i feel like films right now have to be 'masterpieces' or to people they're just 'mid'. i think he shows that films can just be fun and stuff
Well this video didn’t age well after Deadpool and Wolverine made a billion lol.
Deadpool and Wolverine was pretty disappointing, not sure what I was expecting knowing that levy was the director. I guess I hoped Reynolds auteur vision could save it.
i just font want him to mess up stranger things 5 but what he said relieved me lol
The issue is that I have watched all his movies apparently...
This guys calling movies that aren’t near generic, generic… WHAT??
Pls give real steel a proper review, how tf is it that low. 4/10 is insane
Do David
Leitch next
Why
Do you mean why did he watch all the movies by Shawn Levy if you do a fun, good video idea
kind of funny, i have known about him since Night at the Museum due to checking wiki (i do it with almost every movie i know)
his works are really made for most of the time, also the 2000s feel is always there
God i love Real Steel.

bro missed on the first one already, he made the iconic show jett jackson and made the movie
I was doing theatrical releases but he did technically do that Disney channel original I just opted to omit it
I’m surprised free guy is praised so much in this, or that there’s really nothing negative said about it at least. You should be more popular.
When he’s got a good collaborator, I find his movies to be ok. The Night at the Museum movies are quite fun, deadpool and Wolverine is nice, but other than that I’m not a fan of his movies
In short, he's a mid director
i mean he's a hollywood hack what do you expect, he's purely profit motivated
