Tbf i never knew how large tuna actually was until i saw a photo of someone catching one. I dont eat fish at all so i thought since its a common fish meat at grocery stores and restaurants then theyd prob just throw a net like they do for sardines or other smaller fish and just be done with it (unless they do do that with tuna also then i really dont know anything about fish lmao)
Asking if it’s fresh is asking whether it was caught in the last day or couple of days and hasn’t been frozen.
@@neb4587all Sushi grade fish are required to be frozen in the US.
@@Stephen981csand not all restaurants carry sushi grade fish? In fact most don’t. A lot of places do serve never frozen fish, it gets caught, put on the fridge truck, and shipped directly to the restaurant. Also for Tuna and Salmon (plus most bigger fish) a lot of regions don’t freeze them at all, they’re considered sushi grade before being frozen. It’s just most of the US and EU requires freezing. But it’s not technically necessary with the larger fish.

I was taught you kill them immediately cause the amount of adrenaline or just how much they fight takes litteral pounds off of them from struggling including on the deck so what doesn't make it to the tuna catching shows is they would just bash the hell out of them or throw alcohol on there gills to kill them as fast as possible and not spoil or burn off the meat.

That's like a mermaid saying you can never buy a live human. Although humans are among the fiercest species on the land, they'll die as soon as they're brought underwater. They'll die instantly if they stop breathing because they need to constantly breathe oxygen.
No. The difference is that these fish will die not just from only being out of water but also not from swimming. Many other kinds of fish can still survive on a boat inside of a fish tank, as long as they're in water they'll stay alive at least for some time. A better comparison would be like saying that humans would die if they stopped walking or running, but we know that humans can still breathe while remaining stationary as long as they have access to oxygen.

They absolutely do NOT die instantly, and at even 55° some can be revived. The reason tuna die more quickly is a combination of hypoxia as you say, but also acidosis and shock from the ferocity they fight with.
Shame....
Poor animals
@@AnaPereira-ue3rf This comes down to deeply personal positions. In my case, I am relatively comfortable eating animals that are less "aware". My line is arbitrary from the outside, as are positions to either side, those who eat no animal or those who'll consume any of them. People really need to understand that there isn't a right or wrong here, although I can say everyone should support humane and cruelty free hunting/fishing and farming. Also, plants are living things too, what consideration should they be given?
Dont they also cook their own meat if they fight too long? I believe tuna are partially or fully endothermic, their muscles producing enough heat to keep them warmer than the surrounding water, allowing them to be very fast even in cold waters. But that means if they are stressed too hard fighting a line, they will literally overheat and start to cook.
@@danielled8665 I think you might be thinking of the "acidic" cooking a lá ceviche? To do so they'd have to generate enormous amounts of lactic acid, which does effect taste and texture. Or, they'd be generating so much heat that they'd be dead long before they're hauled in, I'm not a marine biologist, so this should be taken with salt, but the physics don't seem to add up for them to "cook" in the every day sense. I don't know if an acidic process could become that extreme, but in extremis animal body systems are capable of some astonishing things. I'm gonna learn me a bit about this. My guess is that is an urban legend type thing but we'll see.

Lmao
As an ex commercial tuna fisherman I've seen 100s of tuna brought on deck and released swimming off at amazing speed
Well obviously the variable factor is time since just like almost all animals there is a certain amount of time they can go without breathing. Heck a scorpion was placed unwater in a science experiment to see how long it could last and when they took it out 3 days later it was crawling around like nothing happened.
They dont even break the surface of the water its scary 🤣

It's all good. RUclips shorts and tiktok videos are some of the most misleading forms of information today. I wouldn't believe the sky was blue if I heard it here 1st
@@andrewlyttle2no this video is completely false no tuna "dies instantly" it'll take like 10 minutes
As a high school English teacher I can say with certainty that tuna do not die immediately after being caught.
Not disagreeing, but what does being an English teacher have to do with anything? Last I checked, a degree in marine biology wasn't a requirement for being an English teacher.
@SwapPart that's the joke.... he's mocking all the "as a x" people

Damn. What kinda shit are they teaching kids nowadays that an English teacher of all people has this kind of knowledge

if ‘they’ll never take me alive!” was a person. well, a fish.
Matthew 7:24-27 says, Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash. Jesus saves!!! Build your house on the word of God, and you shall stand firm!
Bro just described 99% of fish ever 💀💀
Ram ventilation isn't the norm with fish.
Ever seen a catfish in a hollow log? It's not a casket.
@@TheDwightMambait is with sharks, and dogfish (which are also cartilaginous fish)
@@TheDwightMamba Hence the 99% in his/her comment...
Dude didn't described problem. We can keep alive a lot of kins of fishes just putting them in water and some can survive long enough in places with high humidity without water. So you just put fish in water and don't care if it can move or not But ram ventilation demands quite a bit of space for fish to move. It's quite expensive to transport fish and it's also expensive to keep it alive until someone's buy it. It's possible to buy fresh tuna you just need to be a little bit rich or live very close to shore
@@OneNiftyBoi Ram ventilation is less than 1% of fish. The vast majority can shut half of their brains down for "sleep" as the other half keeps them breathing and looking for creatures that want to eat them.
I'm no biologist...but I'm pretty sure ALL fish need to have water running through their gills in order to extract oxygen
Imagine we have to always run with our nose pointed towards the wind to get air into our lungs, instead breathing it in.
Yeah lol
Some fish can breathe without moving though.
Tuna cant.
They have to keep moving... or else they die.
Exactly like what was said in the video🤦♂️
You people need to work on your comprehension skills.
So fish never rest in a stationary position? Damn. I feel so sorry for them
@Cosmic Billy even if a fish isn't swimming g uts still MOVING its mouth and gills to suck in water to get the oxygen it needs ....no fish could be perfectly still and live
"See that live tuna swimming underneath the boat? How much ya want for it?"
"Ten bucks."
"Here's 10 bucks."
"He's yours. Whatcha gonna name 'm?"
Human : I'm gonna eat you, tuna.
Tuna : Here goes some Mercury.
Gonna add this to the new things i learn but will forget anyways

Lol I saw the comment you copied and must say it was delightful to see others are in the same boat haha.

Bro the tuna clip where the tuna is frozen and the tunas sliding is just funny lol

Brendan. This is George from HR. You are fired. Return your hard hat and your slip on steel toes immediately.
My husband said he sits in the bathroom watching videos while he's at work. Only 2 breaks in 12 hours? I think not. 😆
Even though you're in a rush, remember that it's nice to flush.
Fish can't breathe outside water
Humans can't breathe underwater
Fish was truly the human's antithesis.
