40:55 na whats even funnier is that he prays for god the kill peter parker. My man didnt even know he was spiderman, he just wanted some photographer dead
I just love how goofy that line of thinking is. Peter exposed Eddie as a fraud and instead of just beating Peter up or trying to improve his skills, he immediately goes to church and tells God himself to strike Peter down. That is a whole other level of petty.
If that were true, people stop complaining about the MCU, like they are not allowed to make an okay or bad movie at times, and will argue over what's actually good, like I enjoy the Marvel movies and I don't need everything to be the best movie ever nor the worse, I wish I wouldn't get recommended videos like that all the time
My favorite The Batman scene is him leading the people through the flooded streets with his cape flowing behind him. I love the take on the Batman where Batman is actively leading a rescue for Gotham and not just giving big punches
Agreed, that might be my favorite scene in the movie, it portrayed the theme of Batman using hope instead of brutality to save the day really effectively
After seeing Batman being criminally misunderstood for years, it hit extra hard. People focus so hard on him putting fear in criminals that they forget how much hope he inspires in the innocent.
@@robertfancyman3873 Yes exactly!! The movie made me nervous from the trailers & the opening about how Batman is all about vengeance and instilling fear in his enemies, it was a really nice twist to have him figure out that that's actually not the way to go
It's his moment to become the hero instead of being feared as a vigilante. Tbh a sequel movie has to live up to a huge task of matching the pacing and tone of the movie. This movie was the best take on batman as a character. Nolan trilogy did something completely different as a film, it was more of a rounded approach the character of batman. The villains added more to the films than the MC. But Pattinson batman was just iconic and to the point comic book batman. The brooding and dark modern crime noir that made batman cool again. I'm not hating on the Nolan trilogy either, I love those films. But they didn't get the batman right at times, they focused more on bruce wayne.
It's insane how in 4 years, because of Disney's oversaturation, superhero movies went from the coolest thing in the world to something everyone is tired off.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and Across the Spiderverse disproved that. We aren't tired of superhero movies; we're tired of mid superhero movies. We want innovation again.
Bro. Your pacing/inflection is top tier. You’ve really developed the skill of talking into a mic for an hour without making me want to fall asleep or eat kryptonite
@@hamoiq908he is the least Doctor-y Doctor. He's much more of an eccentric human than an alien compared to the others. But that's likely massively influenced by the fact that his era was Rose obsessive.
My dad hadn't liked an animated movie since Finding Nemo but I convinced him and my stepmom to watch Spiderverse one Christmas and they both loved it. That movie is built different
My dad was never into superhero movies and never watches animated ones but one day he came to me and said "you ever heard of this spiderman movie?" And he showed me the trailer for ITSV, we watched it later that night and he had an absolute blast with it
I think David Tennants doctor is so beloved because of how good and impactful the writing was at that time. Would Christopher Eccelston be loved more if he had the same number/quality of episodes? Probably.
yeah, i think Marcus' points towards *why* he doesn't like Tennant are valid, but they're both kind of out of his control, and didn't take away from the phenomenal product that era of the Doctor made. you can criticise the fact David was never made to behave like he was really immortal all the time, and you can criticise the fact that he was allowed to have a relationship with his companion (and even how that affected his situation and expectations with the rest of his companions from then on), and it'd be valid. but the writing was still fantastic, it was a direct step up from Eccleston on basically all fronts, and a couple of episodes and themes are directed towards David's situation as an aging time lord, which Marcus should like. obviously it wasn't harked on as much as Matt Smith, but half of Matt Smith's storyline is the fact he is basically dying, David didn't get that story, so he doesn't act like he did, and the story adheres instead to his guilt and anger, which is fine, because David did them *really, really well*
Eccelstone would be loved more if there wouldn't be three episodes of Slitheen (even tho I do like Boom Town). He is also missing a "greatest" episode of his.
Weirdly enough, my favorite Peter Parker is Peter B. from ITSV. Man is just so relatable and is one of the most interesting iteration of Spiderman. To see a Spiderman that has been Spiderman for far too long that he's even gotten tired of the Uncle Ben quote is so interesting. And despite that, he still does his duty as Spiderman.
@@thehumanity0we kinda did, Spider-Pine (yk who I mean) who dies near the start of that film in Miles’ universe seemed almost identical to Peter B, except he died while still being fairly young. So, Peter B likely had many of his experiences plus a lot more, to the point where he stagnated rather than dying during what were probably his peak years.
@@m.cproductions3671 Maybe, but it seemed like original Peter Parker was a lot more perfect and popular. Peter B. Parker, even in the earlier part of his story, seemed to always struggle, apparently "made bad money choices" and never seemed to have it easy. It makes him a more relatable Spider-man, which incidentally makes him an even funnier version of the hero due to all his faults in real life and bad luck on the job.
I can never take for granted how respectful Marcus is to his chat. Stream chats are so obnoxious but he still tries to reason with them or laugh with them. Love ya man, keep up the good stuff
Respectfully, the thing you miss about Blade's influence is the executives. Fans will blame the execs for getting involved and screwing things up, but rarely give credit when their response pans out well for the fans. Blade justified the budget for X-Men and Spider-man. Those two, in turn, justified the budgets and greenlights on a lot of other films. At the end of the day, it's those three films together that got us this current never-ending generation of superhero films.
@@rattyeely he's not saying its the exec's fault, he's saying everyone blames executive intervention for these movies and why they are the way they are, but dont highlight the contextual importance of how the exec's involvement in movies like Blade justified and brought on the generation of superhero movies that were the catalyst for our modern yearly superhero content. its a little lacking in context in and of itself, because you can still do all of that without killing a good creative vision or putting a stop to anything wall street wouldn't want, but it is a good point to highlight, since none of these movies are made on hopes and dreams, they're made on a continuously bouncing back and forth of hundreds of millions of dollars that these films make back and more.
Batman as the Holiday Marathon is gonna be so fun. I really hope we don't skip a bunch of the animated dvd ones cause there's a few hidden gems in there
Batman V dracula is ironically FANTASTIC. It takes it so seriously and it just somehow works. Plus the joker from that animated universe is sooooo underrated!
You would think that, but this video is nothing like the Ultimate Review/Why it Sucks. Where those videos are long, they are scripted, well-argued, highly edited videos. This one he just sat on Twitch for a couple hours and uploaded the VOD.
I've avoided re-watching the movie at all costs. I remember skipping half of my classes that morning with my friends to catch it as soon as the theater opened, and it was amazing. The reactions, being with friends, getting in trouble later. The movie is nowhere near one of my favorites, but that was my favorite cinematic experience.
In addition to the MCU sort of going through a rough patch since then, what really made Endgame all the more special was the 2 years that came after when cinemas were essentially shut down. It just made that memory all the more precious
If Marcus watched Daredevil S3 I would hope that 11 minute long-take prison escape scene would be one of his favorite scenes. Nothing on TV/streaming has topped that to this day for me
i would really like him to make a video on the series. Maybe when Born Again comes out next year. The Netflix show is still probably my favorite Marvel ANYTHING put on film
You know, out of all the times I've watched Spiderman 3, I have never really thought much about the fact that Eddie literally prays for Spiderman to die, but listening to you describe it has me laughing so hard. That movie was absurd. The whole damn thing is a meme from start to finish.
On the subject of the horrible quality of movie posters. When making Pan's Labyrinth, Guillermo del Toro actually commissioned Drew Struzan to design a poster. And as the story goes, Drew got the call and whipped out a design that night and sent it to Guillermo, who loved it. But the studio ended up making axing the idea. The unused original poster is hung in Guillermo's home. It's a really lovely piece
When I walked out of Across the Spider-Verse the first thing I said was “they’d have to fumble the ball impressively to stop this from being the best super hero movie trilogy ever.”
Christopher Eccelston is such a good doctor. It also helps he had a short run with some pretty solid episodes overall. Now I actually do like Tennant, but Eccelston just vibes with me more.
I wish Eccleston had had a longer run. He had some good episodes but also quite a few stinkers (although, they all did - Dr. Who has always been ridiculously uneven) and he deserved more material than he ended up getting.
I think his spicy takes usually land better because he's good at explaining why and he at least admits "I know I'm the only one who thinks this"- especially when he talks about Spider-man 2, Civil War, Black Panther or his hatred of Tenant. I love Spidey 2 and Civil War but I also get WHY he has issues with them. **edit oh wow despite his issues he put Spidey in GOATED 😮
@@CrowTRobotTo be fair, his issues with it are like, equally boons and I think he gets it. Like SM2 is super goofy at times but it's so SO sincere and feels so good to watch that it's flaws kinda just don't matter at ALL.
THANK YOU FOR THE POSTER TANGENT I’ve been saying for years especially how poster design for superhero movies has just been so over saturated and repetitive. People have told me that I’m being a party pooper and that it’s not something so deep but as someone who appreciates good movie posters and is currently pursuing a graphic design degree, it angers and frustrates me. I feel it’s not even the designers faults its the companies for rushing and forcing every poster to be the same and basically go off a check list rather than genuine design.
@@PKOve When I mean genuine design I mean how the designers behind the poster understand the movie it is that they’re trying to market, and they do so in a fun way. The best movie posters out there are the most simplistic ones if you think about it. “Jaws” is a textbook example of a great and iconic poster, but there’s also others like “airplane!” or even the first tobey spider man poster from 2002 where it’s him crawling on the window. The best designers for these posters understand that less is more. When less is used, it builds anticipation and excitement within people who the posters, as opposed to forty different pngs of all the superheroes slapped together looking different directions(infinity way, homecoming, etc) But the thing is collage posters can be done right. Look at the older Star Wars posters. Those posters work because each of the different elements are connected together physically, and the use of color feels balanced and cohesive. But the newer posters? The problem is that they simply don’t feel cohesive. Even worse, they feel overwhelming. Take the black panther poster for example. Tchalia is staring forward, killmonger is looking another direction, and Andy serkis is just smiling there looking like he doesn’t know what’s going on. It just doesn’t feel like the kind of poster that should represent this kind of movie. It’s a story about a king reclaiming his throne and he gets a mediocre poster like this? I think a more effective poster would be of him standing above a hill and looking over wakanda. It’s simple but exciting too. Like I said before, it builds anticipation just seeing him watch over the city like he’s about to fight and save everyone. The worst part is that, like I said in the other comment, it’s not the designers fault, it’s the companies and executives. I bet many of these designers have really great ideas for posters, but companies like Disney and Warner Bros. care more about getting a poster done as fast as possible and making a profit by rushing these designers and setting a checklist to make a generic poster. Before you call me an old man or whatever either, just know I’m 19, barely a young adult. I’ve been passionate about this stuff way before that ever since I got into design. To many people they’re just posters, but to some, including myself, they’re special. It’s another form of art. General audiences don’t care and when they see these posters at the movies all it’ll generate is a “oh that’s cool” and then forget about about it once the movie starts. Maybe I’m being silly, but this is just something I care a lot about. Genuine design to me is design that simply had love and care put into it. Yeah it’s their jobs to design it and they get paid, but graphic design is a job that can be fun. Some of the best designs in pop culture came from designers who love what they do( the ghostbusters logo, Jurassic park, the MTV logo, the google logo variations, etc) I’ve accepted that posters won’t be as cool now as they were before I was alive or when I grew up, so it feels nice hearing Marcus bring this up knowing I wasn’t the only one.
@@indiesoku Thank you for the thorough explanation! I appreciate the examples you provided, now I see what constitutes a good poster and the problem with some of the modern posters. Best of luck with your graphic design degree!
This goes for all your videos, but especially this one: When you say things I disagree with, I don't want to rage comment. Something about the way you say it makes me want to ask you more Questions. Like if we were in the room, I'd ask you to pause and elaborate a bunch. You don't invoke anger, you invoke curiosity. And that's really fucking rad.
I agree with Marcus about Snyders Justice League. I dont like his style, I dont like his interpretation of the characters but it is a self contained really good story. Its too long, there are a ton of annoying/stupid things to me but it is so good for some reason. I don't really know how to explain why it works for me but it does.
I think most Snyder movies are just edgy, take themselves too seriously, style over substance movies but Snyder cut feels like he actually put lot of care and heart into the movie and that's what radiates in it. Not to say it's perfect: overly long, tons of slo-mo, corny dialogues, cringy acting, etc. but despite all that it's still really good: great action, good cgi, great soundtrack, great character moments.
It's because it's compared to the first justice league movie. Compared to that steaming pile of poo poo, Snyder's movie looks like a god damn masterpiece
Spiderverse also passed the mum test for my family, this woman fell asleep during Man of Steel and Endgame but loved Spiderverse. Such a great piece of cinema
Agents of Shield is actually pretty good. I can see why from the outside it might look like a really bad show but it's solid. Most of the writing is good, the main cast acting is good and the character development is good. Some of the effects aren't very good, and there's a few forgettable characters that find their way into the main cast, but overall it's a good show. Canonically, it's irrelevant in the MCU, so you have to watch it as a standalone, but even for that purpose, it's pretty good.
I think it’s one of marvels better projects. I really enjoyed the plot lines and characters. It took me a while to watch since it didn’t look good, but once you get into it (past first half of season one) it’s incredibly good! I think he should definitely watch it
@@sarah-ly6yq True. That first half season is pretty hammy, but it had its moments and overall good character development. But certainly, there weren't any real stakes until Hydra came into the mix.
I tried to watch it but couldn't get past season 4. When it didn't get good after 3 and a half seasons I gave up. The first time ghost rider appeared on the show was kinda cool tho.
Honestly a Cosmonaut Doctor Who video would be interesting. Also I absolutely love your takes on the revival era, Eccleston and Capaldi are my favourite doctors as a Brit born in the early 2000's, Eccleston is great besides his short episode count (fuck the BBC for that) and Capaldi was fantastic but his episodes were 80% mid, but the good ones were fucking phenomenal. Petition for a Cosmonaut Doctor Who video, even if it's a short rant style video like that one section here, I'd love to hear more opinions on Doctor Who from someone I didn't know watched the show until today lol
Disagree, most of Capaldi's episodes are good. There are a few truly godawful ones, but the hit rate was generally pretty high, especially considering the following era.
I honestly think the ratio of mid episodes doesn't change too much (besides the overall solid lineup of S3 and S4 making Tennant's run a bit higher) in nuwho pre Chibby. But Capaldi had some really awful episodes. Eccleston, Tennant, and Smith would get 1-2 absolute garbage stories in their entire run and Capaldi would get multiple garbage episodes each season. Moreover it was very frontloaded, with Season 8 getting Forest of the Night and Kill the Moon and Season 9 getting Sleep No More. But when Capaldi episodes are amazing or even great, they hit hard not just because Capaldi is a fantastic actor but because that era as a whole imo deals with more complex themes.
People say Avengers changed super hero movies, but I would say Guardians had a larger and perhaps a more subtle impact. I remember when it came out everyone I know went to see guardians and everyone I talked to enjoyed it. Just look at the MCU timeline pre guardians and post guardians to see how important it was
I think guardians showed that people were still interested in the space movies cuz that was still a year before Star Wars came back, and the mcu needed space odyssey movies to really tell the story of the infinity saga.
@@bionicearthYeah, there's definitely a mixed bag with the first _Guardians of the Galaxy_ and its influence, but that's basically true of almost everything, and definitely true where greedy, out-of-touch, and often coked out people are involved. For all its good, _GotG_ also part of what started the pandering super hard to 1970s and 1980s music and culture even in stories where it didn't really fit, which is part of why the "please love me" 2016 _Suicide Squad_ is as bad as it is even though that's totally DC and WB's fault.
Really agree with Andrew being the closest Spidey we have had, but it's sad that he was wasted in some meh to bad movies. Some of my all time favorite spidey moments are from his movies. (and yes even compared to the spider-verse movies)
I think Andrew plays the best confident, more experienced Spider-man. We're all sick of TH but he's a great early, plucky Spider-man that feels like he's in the comics. Tobey feels just like classic 60's Spidey. They all do something right imo
The problem with Andrew is his Peter, like he made a dying man a promise to stay away from his daughter and then comes back on his promise like a couple days later. Like what happened with being responsible? So the problem with Andrew is the people who made his movies don’t know how to write Peter. That’s also the problem with MCU Peter.
Its hilarious to me that I love listening to Marcus talk about superhero movies so much, cuz the best superhero movies I've seen would never be caught higher than a 6 or 7 on my personal rating scale. I dont love or watch movies that much overall, and this is the only movie-centric channel i really enjoy watching
I would genuinely be so happy if you made a Doctor Who video of some kind. Also David Tennant’s doctor is the best with Donna hands down cause the whole silly romance thing is over and it’s just a great Doctor-companion duo.
I literally got teary eyed when the everyone cheers and howls at the end like they’re just celebrating life. It’s so beautiful and it might be my favorite MCU ending
@@nochannelmusician769 100%, just seeing everyone happy after that rollercoaster of a movie got me in the feelers aswell. Drax finally opening himself up to dance and all the guardians truly embracing their newfound family and straight up busting it down
you brought up the Daredevil hallway fight, and my brain immediately pictured a flying microwave, and the next second you said "he throws a fuckin' microwave at a guy". legendary scene 😂
You need to rewatch Tennet Doctor from beginning to end. Because his doctor is absolutely someone who’s been plagued with the memories of a 900 year old time traveler, and it manifests in anger and his willingness to break rules he previously held sacred of it means saving the non aggressor in whatever situation he’s in. Also the whole point of his relationship with Rose was to demonstrate why he shouldn’t have a relationship with a companion. Because the blooming of their relationship inadvertently lead to her being trapped in the alternate universe. The whole point was “oh this was a real gut punch, we definitely can’t go through that again.”
Why would you respect someone for their opinion not changing? Like, it’s an opinion. It’s fine if it changes. It’s also fine if it doesn’t. Why would it deserve respect?
@@Fluffy6555 Yes, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is "goated" tier without a doubt (once you get past that point in season 1 XD). It's maddening when so many people dismiss it then go out of their way to watch shit like She-Hulk and Falcon And The Winter Soldier, which are far inferior.
@@thefinkie6459 agreed. AoS is fucking amazing, character development for dayys. Much better than all the nonsense we've gotten in Phase 4 (most of it at least)
I really liked moon knight. Oscar Isaac was great and idk it just felt different to me. I liked the story and hospital illusion episode where we get a view into his trauma was incredible. Also the final fight just being the blackout while jake obliterates everything was great. Our imaginations will create something so much better than they could put on screen and it’s just a great way to establish intrigue for more. Even if it won’t matter in the MCU it just felt different
I think it starts strong but it gets kinda meh by the end, especially with the usual big dumb MCU fight in the last episode. I also just have a personal gripe with the show as a Moon Knight fan. I think the Egyptian mythology stuff is cool but it's not really what I like about Moon Knight and realistically isn't what the character is meant to be. He's Marvel's Batman who kills people. That show would never get made but I still just don't have great love for what Moon Knight did as a series.
@@GATESOFKELLit's an intro season because he isn't a well known character. He can't just start murking people with no introduction to what he is. We don't even see Jake until the last episode. If there's a second season it'll probably have more room to explore
The first half of Season 1 basically tricks you into thinking it's going to be a lame CW knock-off. And then you get to the end of that first season and Bill Paxton is running around, ripping a man's rib out and stabbing him to death with it, before turning into a cyborg. It's a fucking mental show, and I unabashedly love it.
Agents of Shield isn’t jaw dropping, but it’s definitely worth a watch. First season is a little bit of a drag but a plot twist at the end changes the entire trajectory of the show and from there on it gets into some of the most interesting storylines marvel can offer.
David Tennant is definitely one of my favorite Doctors (I think he's just a really great actor), but I absolutely agree about the part where he gets together with Rose. It's weird! The Doctor shouldn't have a romance with a companion! I hate it when they write the companions to have feelings for him! (Especially with Amy Pond that one was just kinda unnecessary especially when you learn who River is) Anyway, I love Eccleston, just wish he had more episodes
@@ethanjobson3879 I mean like, yeah your right technically, but I think that's more of a compromise the show makes. Obviously the show couldn't actually pair Rose with 10 cause that just wouldn't really work, so instead they made a half-human clone for her to live with in an parallel world. (I'd like to add that I don't necessarily dislike this plot, I just don't care for the idea of Companion/Doctor romances in general)
I agree, The Batman is definitely GOAT status. I feel like alot of people liked it but they don't love it like I do. They always say something like "Ya it was pretty good but The Dark Knight is still better". I love the Nolan movies too but The Batman felt like a graphic novel masterpiece brought to life.
I'm amazed at how much i like this channel and Marcus in general when so often i yell "WHAT?!" with my mouth agape after he shares his opinon on things. 10/10 video, Tennet is the best doctor, fight me.
Capaldi is my favorite Doctor and I think he carries the entirety of his seasons with his performance alone, even if some of the plots really suck, but I do think the episodes get the "Doctor Who vibe" right, even the bad ones
I honestly think that people underrate Capaldi's episodes. Listen, Mummy on the Orient Express, Flatline, Under the Lake, Before the Flood, Heaven Sent, World Enough and Time are all bangers with many more. If you go back you start to have a new appreciation for them and realise Doctor Who always had that sucky vibe with low lows and that's what makes it so fun. I think people don't look at his episodes as fondly because after the 50th anniversary hype people had just way too high expectations that the high episodes didn't look that good and the low lows became more apparent
I always say the best Doctors are judged by how well they are portrayed in their bad episodes. Tom Baker is considered the best Doctor, and you can easily tell, because even in his worst episodes, he was still the best and most standout performance. Looking at Jodi Whittaker, her worst episodes just put me to sleep.
His anti-war speech alone almost drove me to tears, and that was before I started watching the show. Even so I doubt his performance could save Chibnall's 'writing', tho it's more akin to, I quote, vomiting through a pen.
"People talk about this movie like they saw it" is the absolute perfect way to describe The Flash. I liked the Flash but nobody who hates it actually saw the movie.
i’m only a few minutes in but aqua man and the avengers being in the mid category by themselves somehow managed to break my brain, heart, mind and soul at the same time.
yeah loki does not belong that high. Way too slow and not enough payoff. Its another one of those ones that will be elevated to "really good" if the second season ties all the story together and is also good.
I dont think people dont like him, BBC wanted him for a second season but he didnt want to. That would have happend if people disliked him. He is just often forgotten and tbh his episodes are mostly good (with an exception of the first two Slitheen episodes) but I dont think any of his episodes are really remarkable.
I consider him on par with Matt Smith, maybe even better in some instances. If Eccleston had another season, he probably would've really had the opportunity to shine. I still think Tennant is the best, specifically because he was a more vibrant, younger, charismatic and immature Doctor - also it definitely helps that the writing was the best in his years.
When you do your Batman rankings, make sure to include Adam West's Batman movie! Too many people act like it isn't part of the conversation for some reason, but it's a lot of goofy ass fun.
I think there has been such an ebb and flow in Batman discourse cause bvs was the worst in just depressing Batman films so something that stands out like an actual fun Batman film is great
@tenkenroo Definitely agree with you on that, but also, the fan narrative likes to pretend that Batman on film started with Michael Keaton's Batman, and that's a dumb revisionist history way of looking at things. Adam West Batman is a huge part of Batman lore, and ignoring it is really cheating yourself out of a unique version of the character. Tbh, I prefer the silly, campy version of Batman over a *lot* of the so called serious versions of the character. I don't actually think that Keaton Batman is that good tbh.
Being sad about Rose is certainly a part of David Tennant's Doctor Who, but I don't think it's his 'main thing'. I do agree that Rose was overused/done but there's plenty to like besides that. Especially the 'frenemies' thing he's got with Donna.
It’s based as fuck actually black panther 1 may be the most carried marvel movie by a single character. Killmonger is literally the only takeaway from BP1 and he’s literally just anti african American propaganda.
They’re both bad. Haven’t seen the second but I can’t imagine it being any better than the first since they lost the star. I like Chadwick and he was cool in the other movies it bummed me out that they fumbled his own movie
Thank you for having the most sound, logical, least emotional Spider-Man takes. I almost 100% agree with all of your Spider-Man movie tales and they’re very refreshing when everyone you talk to insists that “X” Spider-Man is the best and the rest are terrible
Would love to see a review of Quentin Tarantino’s films. I know he’s apparently going to make one more so if that would make you wanna hold off I get it but it’d be a pretty good end of year video to make :)
While he was talking about Catwoman, I was excited thinking about how he would place Constantine only to be greatly disappointed. One of my favorites on this list.
I think your criticism of Tennant's Doctor is completely valid and he is much more human leaning, tho I feel the reason I and so many others love his performance is that he came off as much more relatable to the general audience. I love the others just as much as Tennant but I can't relate to any of them nearly as well due to their more alien nature.
I wish the animated DC series would have been included. Marcus has talked a little about Justice League and JL Unlimited before, so it’d be nice to hear more.
I wanna say I agree that Loki is the best Disney+ show they've made. But the statement "Loki is better than Daredevil" is probably top 10 headass crack smoking takes I've EVER heard
Not as bad as Black Panther being in the same tier as Black Widow, Love and Thunder, Dark World and below Batman and Robin, Catwoman, Daredevil and Wolverine Origins
Each live action spiderman trilogy had its own narrative which I liked, Tobeys was focused a lot on the city of NYC as a whole(besides 3), Garfield was focused on Peter specifically and Holland is focused on the relationships Peter has/had
The fact that marcus would’ve put Falcon and the Winter Soldier in the bad tier if it was in here but put She-Hulk in good is making me question his sanity lol. They both deserve to be in bad tier imo.
peacemaker was a weird one for me, it’s kind of in reverse because it got better as the show went on. it was really annoying at the beginning, but once that eased up for the better emotional moments gunn’s good with i think it improved a lot agree 100% i watched the intro every single time lol
DC shows (Not CW) are like that, I hated Harley Quinn animated show at first but then it got a lot better, same with Doom Patrol, Titans was mid tho and don’t get me started on Gotham knights 😭😭 shit was on par with the game both asssss
The way that I already feel the extreme amount of love I have for The Batman being validated from what you’re saying here has me so hyped for this winter video. Fucking love your work dude!
The punisher show is honestly really good, probably the best Netflix marvel show since daredevil, not on the same level of quality as Daredevil but it has some great episodes and punisher moments, some of the most satisfying moments of a character getting their revenge that I have ever seen, and Jon Bernthal is just so good.
@@intense79nick the stuff with Billy and Frank and their dynamic and the way it was affecting Madani, Curtis, and Mahoney in season 2 was really good and all of the action was great just like season one but all the stuff with the religious dude and the girl he protects and that stupid couple killing people to keep the secret that their politician son is gay, I couldn't really give two shits about.
Daredevil is Goated imo. Marcus needs to watch Season 3, cause S3 is undoubtedly the best. It's leagues above pretty much every other Marvel show that's ever come out, and it might honestly be the best thing Netflix has ever done
@@thehumanity0I agree. I really would have put it in goated. It’s actually sad that we aren’t ever going to see that level with these characters again. Disney doesn’t have any balls.
Avengers 1 has aged so weirdly for me. In 2012, it was a gamechanger that a lot of people would have had as GOATed. It may be the most important superhero movie ever, but if you view it by today's criteria, it's kind of just a by-the-numbers action film. Thing is you have to judge these things by their place in time. It's like how every sprinter today is faster than Jesse Owens, but we still view him as one of the greats.
Avengers 1 is still my favorite MCU movie. I get chills every time the Battle Of New York starts. And even though Joss Whedon is a piece of garbage as a person and I'm glad his career is over, he did admittedly do a really good job at writing these characters and setting up the lore.
The Capaldi era probably was probably the stretch with the best writing in the show. I also absolutely agree with your takes on Rose and 10. Do make a Doctor Who video - you're on time for the 60th! Topical!
11s my favorite doctor bc I just love his writing and episodes but 12 is right behind him. Capaldi is so good and I’m so glad they brought him back to play the doctor after his episode.
Oh man, the 10th doctor take hurt my soul. Yes, his era did have the romance, but for me he was my favourite because of his profound sadness that he carried for the 2 seasons after. It wasn't just moping about Rose either, it was him moping about his alien being, his inability to live a typical life, in my opinion. Cause Rose got a happy ending with the human 10. That was the most relatable part about him to me, that insane responsibility that came with his age he had to bear, denying him what he wanted. And just his silent frustration at the universe for that. Also his master was amazing, and his companions and his episodes - nah I really need to rewatch this show, I miss the 10th doctor so damn much.
I don't buy that take for ten. It's got weight but I think it ignores bits of him. 10 is a doctor fiercely afraid to die, I don't buy that he would want a human life, he wants his life. 10 mopes because people around him die and he has the same fate as many other doctors who lose their most prevalent companion where they get a reluctance to have a new one. His misgivings with Martha are absolutely motivated by rose leaving (ruining the season a bit but you didn't here that from me). I wouldn't have as much of a problem with Rose in season 2 if she didn't swallow the entirety of his run. My other problem is that mopey 10 is an asshole, he's rude to people, arrogant and quick to anger. While these are interesting character traits to have I think he needed more balance, more dopey season 2 Tennant than we got.
I legitimately think Agents of Shield is one of the best and most well-written shows I've ever seen. Season 1 starts off slow, but from episode 16 onwards it just gets better and better with every season, although I think my favorite part is the second half of season 4. The characters are all so good, the writing is top-notch, and the dialogue very rarely feels corny or out of place. It's just a damn good show, and Iain De Caestecker should've won some sort of award for his overall performance as Leopold Fitz. Actually goated series
I need to rewatch AoS. All I remember was how slow the first season was until Winter Soldier came out, and then the next week, the show went from 0 to 100 like that, lol.
I feel like the first half of the movie with Harley’s personal journey was so cool and then the rest of the characters were all kinda basic and the movie stops caring about Harley
Agents of SHIELD is legit one of the best shows Marvel has released, especially Season 4. Everyone should check it out. Season 1 can be a little hit or miss, but it had some pretty unexpected plot twists and pretty cool tie-ins with the MCU movies (although those were really one-sided and became fewer and fewer, since the movies just pretend this show doesn't exist). I recommend watching it in tandem with the movies since they tie into the show, especially Season 1 and The Winter Soldier.

"Dear Jesus Christ... I need you to 'take care' of this Peter Parker guy. Make it look like an accident. Amen."
I just love how goofy that line of thinking is. Peter exposed Eddie as a fraud and instead of just beating Peter up or trying to improve his skills, he immediately goes to church and tells God himself to strike Peter down. That is a whole other level of petty.
"That's the thing about loving so many things. When one thing disappoints you, you're not gonna get upset about it." words to absolutely live by.

The movie made me nervous from the trailers & the opening about how Batman is all about vengeance and instilling fear in his enemies, it was a really nice twist to have him figure out that that's actually not the way to go
The antithesis to batfleck gunning down criminals in a warehouse
Across the spiderverse: hold my masterpiece
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and Across the Spiderverse disproved that. We aren't tired of superhero movies; we're tired of mid superhero movies. We want innovation again.

I think David Tennants doctor is so beloved because of how good and impactful the writing was at that time. Would Christopher Eccelston be loved more if he had the same number/quality of episodes? Probably.
I love Eccleston, I really loved his book aswel (I Love The Bones Of You). Made me apriciate him more
Well, David Tennant is also a helluva an actor, let’s not ignore that. Not to say that Eccelston isn’t also excellent, of course.
yeah, i think Marcus' points towards *why* he doesn't like Tennant are valid, but they're both kind of out of his control, and didn't take away from the phenomenal product that era of the Doctor made.
you can criticise the fact David was never made to behave like he was really immortal all the time, and you can criticise the fact that he was allowed to have a relationship with his companion (and even how that affected his situation and expectations with the rest of his companions from then on), and it'd be valid. but the writing was still fantastic, it was a direct step up from Eccleston on basically all fronts, and a couple of episodes and themes are directed towards David's situation as an aging time lord, which Marcus should like. obviously it wasn't harked on as much as Matt Smith, but half of Matt Smith's storyline is the fact he is basically dying, David didn't get that story, so he doesn't act like he did, and the story adheres instead to his guilt and anger, which is fine, because David did them *really, really well*
Eccelstone would be loved more if there wouldn't be three episodes of Slitheen (even tho I do like Boom Town). He is also missing a "greatest" episode of his.
Eccelston is under appreciated. Eccelston walked so Tennant and Smith can run.
THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one who thought this,
Peter b Parker > Tobey, Tom and Andrew
For sure. Would love to see Peter B. Parker as a younger spider-man. He'd probably be perfect

@kaiserfranzjoseph9311*cue oppenheimer end music*
How exactly is that the executives fault,?

On the subject of the horrible quality of movie posters. When making Pan's Labyrinth, Guillermo del Toro actually commissioned Drew Struzan to design a poster. THANK YOU FOR THE POSTER TANGENT
I’ve been saying for years especially how poster design for superhero movies has just been so over saturated and repetitive.
Please enlighten us on what you expect from a good movie poster! What do you mean with "genuine design"?
@@PKOve When I mean genuine design I mean how the designers behind the poster understand the movie it is that they’re trying to market, and they do so in a fun way. The best movie posters out there are the most simplistic ones if you think about it. “Jaws” is a textbook example of a great and iconic poster, but there’s also others like “airplane!” or even the first tobey spider man poster from 2002 where it’s him crawling on the window. The best designers for these posters understand that less is more. When less is used, it builds anticipation and excitement within people who the posters, as opposed to forty different pngs of all the superheroes slapped together looking different directions(infinity way, homecoming, etc)
But the thing is collage posters can be done right.

Some of the effects aren't very good, and there's a few forgettable characters that find their way into the main cast, but overall it's a good show. I second that, although I hardly disagree on his take about David Tennant, but I appreciate that Eccleston gets some love
Disagree, most of Capaldi's episodes are good. There are a few truly godawful ones, but the hit rate was generally pretty high, especially considering the following era.
Man did not even acknowledge Jodie Whittaker, and now I'm just theorizing how the Chibnall years hit him 😅
I honestly think the ratio of mid episodes doesn't change too much (besides the overall solid lineup of S3 and S4 making Tennant's run a bit higher) in nuwho pre Chibby.

Spiderman. Not Peter. He was terrible as teammate Peter. He played Peter the way he acts when he’s a teacher in his late 20s
@@CrowTRobot Nobody's sick of Tom Holland bro. At least not the average movie goer
@@Igzmg01he is still young chill with him
Its hilarious to me that I love listening to Marcus talk about superhero movies so much, cuz the best superhero movies I've seen would never be caught higher than a 6 or 7 on my personal rating scale.
Exactly! The 10th Doctor he describes here feels like just Series 2
guardians 3's final dance scene is one of the best superhero scenes imo
Got a lotta respect for Marcus keeping it consistent with how he felt about most of these films after a while now
His Captain Marvel ranking is def different lol
Why?
Why would you respect someone for their opinion not changing?
Like, it’s an opinion. It’s fine if it changes. It’s also fine if it doesn’t. Why would it deserve respect?
he put homecoming over guardians 1 in his marvel ranking
@@qwertyuiopaaaaaaa7 but a lot of his opinion on these changed lol
If I recall correctly, Agent Carter was actually pretty fun. Ended on an egregious cliffhanger, but it was a fun lil ride
First season was good. Second was unnecessary.
And Agents of Shield is great after the Winter Soldier twist
@@Fluffy6555 Yes, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is "goated" tier without a doubt (once you get past that point in season 1 XD). It's maddening when so many people dismiss it then go out of their way to watch shit like She-Hulk and Falcon And The Winter Soldier, which are far inferior.
AC and AoS are both goated
@@thefinkie6459 agreed. AoS is fucking amazing, character development for dayys. Much better than all the nonsense we've gotten in Phase 4 (most of it at least)
The opening of Peacemaker just feels like a fever dream to me I never skipped it
My favorite part of this video is when Marcus said, “ I like that turtle movie they just came out with.” 🤣🤣🤣
Damn. Marcus had more patience building up to a super hero finale than DC had building up to their conclusion
I surprised this man has the stamina to do this ranking. I've been watching your for the past 5+ years, and you have been so entertaining!
Been watching him for 5+ years too. One of my fav RUclipsrs
@@GATESOFKELL"moon knight fan"

Good editing. I clicked on the video thinking I’d watch the first 15 minutes or so but I stayed the whole time
Agents of Shield was a little rough during season 1, but it quickly became my favorite marvel tv show, would recommend!
I kinda loved the x-files spy thriller first season, but yeah the show def picks up in season 2 onwards.
agent of shield is amazing u should watch it (looks pretty bad lmfao)
Yeah AOS rocks. Season 4 and 5 are so sick.
I remember the season 4 arc with Aida was amazing, but the rest was pretty forgettable to me.
The final season of Daredevil is probably the best. Definitely check it out when you get the chance.
Also the one that sticks closest to the Frank Miller Daredevil comics.
Season 3 is incredible
>gets back from the gym
>ranks every superhero movie ever
>refuses to elaborate

Agents of Shield isn’t jaw dropping, but it’s definitely worth a watch. First season is a little bit of a drag but a plot twist at the end changes the entire trajectory of the show and from there on it gets into some of the most interesting storylines marvel can offer.
David Tennant is definitely one of my favorite Doctors (I think he's just a really great actor), but I absolutely agree about the part where he gets together with Rose. It's weird! The Doctor shouldn't have a romance with a companion! I hate it when they write the companions to have feelings for him! (Especially with Amy Pond that one was just kinda unnecessary especially when you learn who River is)
Anyway, I love Eccleston, just wish he had more episodes
That wasn't Ten though, that was a Doctor/Donna hybrid with half their DNA each.
Didn't expect you to put Green Lantern in GOATED tier, bold choice. A refreshing take 💪
Definitely a movie of all time 🔥🔥
Take a shot every time Marcus confuses a movie poster with another
I agree, The Batman is definitely GOAT status.
Best doctor
I honestly think that people underrate Capaldi's episodes. Listen, Mummy on the Orient Express, Flatline, Under the Lake, Before the Flood, Heaven Sent, World Enough and Time are all bangers with many more. If you go back you start to have a new appreciation for them and realise Doctor Who always had that sucky vibe with low lows and that's what makes it so fun. I think people don't look at his episodes as fondly because after the 50th anniversary hype people had just way too high expectations that the high episodes didn't look that good and the low lows became more apparent
@@fonkedonkeBased! My thoughts exactly (I'm happy somebody eles recognises how good under the Lake is)
I always say the best Doctors are judged by how well they are portrayed in their bad episodes.
I have seen it. It has a few OK moments, but overall you're not missing a lot by not seeing it .
I did see it and I gotta say I really disliked it, those last 30 minutes were like a literal nightmare
i’m only a few minutes in but aqua man and the avengers being in the mid category by themselves somehow managed to break my brain, heart, mind and soul at the same time.
"Loki is better than daredevil" don't think my jaw has ever dropped as low as that before in my life
yeah loki does not belong that high. Way too slow and not enough payoff. Its another one of those ones that will be elevated to "really good" if the second season ties all the story together and is also good.
Eccleston as your favorite Doctor is absolutely based, i never understood why people didn’t really like his Doctor.
I dont think people dont like him, BBC wanted him for a second season but he didnt want to. That would have happend if people disliked him. He is just often forgotten and tbh his episodes are mostly good (with an exception of the first two Slitheen episodes) but I dont think any of his episodes are really remarkable.
He just looks off idk why
I fucking love how grumpy yet also goofy he can be. He struck an awesome balance and served his role as an almost immediate post-war doctor
I think there has been such an ebb and flow in Batman discourse cause bvs was the worst in just depressing Batman films so something that stands out like an actual fun Batman film is great
@tenkenroo
Definitely agree with you on that, but also, the fan narrative likes to pretend that Batman on film started with Michael Keaton's Batman, and that's a dumb revisionist history way of looking at things.
Deadpool on the same level as multiverse of mid is absolute madness.
Agreed
Bro it feels like Ryan Reynolds waited his whole life to make the deadpool movies.
Eccleston is also my favorite Doctor. He didn't get a fair share! I love Eccleston's voice and vibe.
Being sad about Rose is certainly a part of David Tennant's Doctor Who, but I don't think it's his 'main thing'. I do agree that Rose was overused/done but there's plenty to like besides that. Especially the 'frenemies' thing he's got with Donna.
Wakanda Forever as “really good” and Black Panther 1 as “bad” is INSANE
It’s based as fuck actually black panther 1 may be the most carried marvel movie by a single character. Killmonger is literally the only takeaway from BP1 and he’s literally just anti african American propaganda.
he lost me there, just.......uhggg

Definitely don’t skip out on Constantine, whatever your thoughts on it may would end up being it’s definitely worth a watch
While he was talking about Catwoman, I was excited thinking about how he would place Constantine only to be greatly disappointed. One of my favorites on this list.
Imma need a video of Marcus ranting about Doctor Who for an hour
fr
I think your criticism of Tennant's Doctor is completely valid and he is much more human leaning, tho I feel the reason I and so many others love his performance is that he came off as much more relatable to the general audience. I love the others just as much as Tennant but I can't relate to any of them nearly as well due to their more alien nature.
That's why he's more popular and diminishes his Doctor.
I wish the animated DC series would have been included. Marcus has talked a little about Justice League and JL Unlimited before, so it’d be nice to hear more.
agreed, I love his opinion on a bunch of the DC animated shows and movies. Maybe one day we'll just get this long ass video
I wanna say I agree that Loki is the best Disney+ show they've made. But the statement "Loki is better than Daredevil" is probably top 10 headass crack smoking takes I've EVER heard
Loki was trash I’d take moon knight over it
Not as bad as Black Panther being in the same tier as Black Widow, Love and Thunder, Dark World and below Batman and Robin, Catwoman, Daredevil and Wolverine Origins
thats what im sayin damn
Each live action spiderman trilogy had its own narrative which I liked, Tobeys was focused a lot on the city of NYC as a whole(besides 3), Garfield was focused on Peter specifically and Holland is focused on the relationships Peter has/had
The fact that marcus would’ve put Falcon and the Winter Soldier in the bad tier if it was in here but put She-Hulk in good is making me question his sanity lol. They both deserve to be in bad tier imo.
peacemaker was a weird one for me, it’s kind of in reverse because it got better as the show went on. it was really annoying at the beginning, but once that eased up for the better emotional moments gunn’s good with i think it improved a lot

100% same. When he said “I didn’t realize how much more I had to say” that got me so hyped.
Season 1 was so good. Season 2 on the other hand.... Eeehhh. You can skip it. Felt that way about Jessica Jones too.
FFH has a solid poster. It’s themed and it’s simple. His mask having int. tags like on a suitcase: Solid idea
I like that one, I also really like the homecoming poster where he is chilling with his yellow jacket.
I can listen to you talk all day and your opinions are fair. Not preachy or hating just to hate. This hour long video is a treat.
The Capaldi era probably was probably the stretch with the best writing in the show.
I also absolutely agree with your takes on Rose and 10. Do make a Doctor Who video - you're on time for the 60th! Topical!
would love a Cosmonaut doctor who video. hell, a series!
Actually goated series
u know when someone writes "it's a damn good show" for a review, IT IS a damn good show
season 4 was my favorite season as well , season 5 is the best season though
I need to rewatch AoS. All I remember was how slow the first season was until Winter Soldier came out, and then the next week, the show went from 0 to 100 like that, lol.
You need to watch more TV then
Yes I rly loved that show
Now I need Marcus to rank every single movie in one video
It’s weird, I too recently rewatched birds of prey, and I have no idea why but it went from being like a 6- to an 8 , I strangely really liked it
One of my favorites of the recent DC movies, it was just really fun
It's fun, it has style, Margot Robbie, good fight scenes, and a decent story. Ewan McGregor is also good as Black Mask
Why is that strange. You liked a movie? Yeah super weird
I feel like the first half of the movie with Harley’s personal journey was so cool and then the rest of the characters were all kinda basic and the movie stops caring about Harley
@@SomethingSordidbecause I previously didn’t like it, and then it did 180 on me
Agents of SHIELD is legit one of the best shows Marvel has released, especially Season 4.
Marcus I love you the most, because you’re honest about your opinions and you don’t cave to what’s popular, and you don’t take fictional stuff too seriously. I can’t believe how rare it is to find a creator like that these days lol. Thank you for being a rational human being.
Logan is one of my favorite movies of all time, I absolutely love those "Old badass back into the action" stories
I need a whole video of Marcus talking about Doctor Who now! I really want to know what his thoughts on the classic series are.
Notice Gunn has three goated movies on here, and I agree with all three. DC's in great hands
