- Journey into Hyrule like you've never seen it before as Link rides to the ruins of Castletown to face off in the Final Battle with Ganondorf to save Princess Zelda.
This is a teaser for The Final Battle, a short fan film being produced as a collaboration between the Zelda Project and Player Piano, to bring fans of the Legend of Zelda a live-action recreation of the epic fight between Link and Ganondorf. When or if the show comes to Netflix, I hope they make link mute. Literally, say he's medically a mute. Regardless of how great the voice is, it'll never be good enough at this point.
When navi talked to link in this, I was so happy when he said nothing.

PrismaChromatic I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't mind navi talking. as long as its not the same 5 lines over and over again that is.
pct87 First, Link is not mute. He is displayed as a silent protagonist to immerse the player, but he actually has a few brief voice clips in WW and his response options in many of the games are responses that could not be conveyed by nod, and many were prior to his getting a companion to speak for him.
Second, I don't believe this is the one that is going to be on Netflix as it is non-profit and these guys even say they are not connected to Nintendo in any way, shape, or form.
If they do make the live action series on Netflix I don't want Navi to be in it at all. I don't want them to base the series off existing games. It should be a new story with a completely different Link. Also I don't think he should be mute but just a man of few words. It would still convey a quiet and serious demeanor without having to use a medical condition. That would just feel strange in my opinion.
Takkuri Himare you do understand that I never said he was mute nor that this video is in any way related to the Netflix deal, right? I said that in the show, I would like it if he was mute and this reminded me the possible netflix show, so therefore I mentioned it here.
I don't think the majority of the people in the comments realize how difficult it is to do a good looking, faithful live-action adaptation like this. Even if not a whole lot happened in this trailer, it was still amazing. Especially consider this wasn't a lord of the rings budget. This is some independent shit. I've seen so many big budget live-action adaptations look horrible compared to this. Excellent Link actor, excellent horse chosen to portray epona, excellent design for ganon's castle.

I grew up with the Legend of Zelda games, and I loved the looks of this. Ignore the picky haters. This was beautiful.
My one suggestion would be to fix Navi's voice though. Other than that, this was a fantastic teaser!

I didn't. Granted the visuals at the beginning with the forest and Hyrule Castle at the end looked *amazing*! However Link's shield was clearly a cheep prop (It should be metal with parts worn down from battle. His clothes are all cheap prop green cloth, something that isn't at all good for battle nor aesthetically appealing (I'd at least add some metal chain gear underneath, also the robe look was cool but the white tights he has aren't). Navi's voice wasn't very good, (but better that her original annoying ass in Ocarina haha) and the scene just didn't seem too good, for me, to be set in Hyrule field.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still very excited for this; I've been waiting forever for a live-action movie or series to be honest. It's just there is so much that can go wrong I'm still very skeptical.

Link does what I do in shopping Mall parking lots. Park really far from your destination so you can get some walking in. There's also less competition for those spaces!

the teaser looked a lot better than most big screen VG movies. Hopefully it won't suffer like most VGs that turn into live action films ( super Mario bros/Street Fighter/ etc. )

Why is everyone bitching about the horse?! Have you ever ridden a horse before?! Unless you're in a full gallop, they don't go that fast. This was a canter. Going from what's shown on the Zelda Project channel, the actor playing Link has be riding for only two years. I rode for six years before I quit, and I never learned how to gallop. My sister (8 years) never did either. This is accurate.

I have followed The Zelda Project since they first got started, I have been waiting for this forever!!
So many goosebumps that it hurts.
The costume itself could use a little more tweaking. It should look more gritty and realistic, instead of just looking like really good cosplay. The shield, for example, could really look the part if it had some scratches and looked more like iron. Link's gauntlets need a little work as well. Other than that, I have to say this looks pretty great, the effects are very impressive. Good luck, guys.

I've been following the Zelda Project for a long time, and I'm glad to finally see this! I think everyone did a great job and I'm really looking forward to the final product. Yay!

Note: As a horse person, I was disappointed to see Link not only holding the reins incorrectly, but dismount on the wrong side. He also does not use a western saddle.... As every trainer says, "Heels down!"

Not to belittle this tremendous accomplishment but that wasnt very good. With link knowing he's heading into the climatic battle with gannon shouldnt he be leaning forward on the horse? Some kind of telegraph that he is in a hurry. I mean he is saving the kingdom after presumably a long hard fought battle to even get to this point. Navi could have just been a cgi blue dot with wings, the human made it look cheap. Also to help with the sense of urgency i would try a better camera angle. I mean he looks like he's just riding a horse through a field not going into the battle of his life to save anyone let alone a princess, her kingdom or the entire land. However it was great that you created something and did it with passion. I know i couldn't have made something like that.
yeah, I didn't like it much.. shield was too big, I saw tire tracks from cars in the dirt while he was riding Epona, and I didn't like the human in Navi either.

I don't think some of you understand how horses work.
They can not gallop forever, A canter/Trot will allow a horse to cover a MUCH longer distance (say 15 miles vs 1-2) before becoming exhausted/fatigued).
It makes complete sense with the distance he has to go that he'd be in a canter instead of full on galloping.
gyloir That is not completely true, horses can gallop for long periods of time as long as you allow short moments of rest so that your carrots to replenish.
Okay well when you spend a long ass time fighting different temple bosses and solving puzzles and being attacked constantly please tell me how much of a hurry you would be in to fight evil reincarnated. Its a battle he could have easily lost. He shouldn't rush into it. Wesley played the character well. Reserved. Nervous about going into a battle that determines the fate of an entire realm. That shit is intense. You have to mentally prepare for that.
That's one big-ass shield.
It's well shot with solid production values, and obvious effort and care went into it. The shots of the light filtering down through the forest and the horse's hooves pounding the dirt were fantastic. I think the problem is that, since we're inundated with fantasy epics these days, a guy on a horse could literally be any fantasy series. A stronger visual or auditory marker would leave no doubt: THIS IS ZELDA. Maybe a shot of Link discovering a hidden cave with that unmistakable "you've found a secret!" sound from classic Zelda. Or an overhead shot of Link in a dungeon, with the same bird's eye view as the original game, before the camera slowly zooms in on Link. For all I know that sort of thing could be in the movie itself, but I can see why some fans don't think the trailer is "Zelda enough."

You complain about this teaser, which teasers are supposed to show very little, and you keep saying how crappy it looks when you guys haven't done any Zelda videos yourself. This is a fan made, FREE, upcoming film which Nintendo might never give us. These people are doing this out of love and, quite frankly, to berate them because you think it's not up to your personal standards is childish and boneheaded.

Don't you think Link's clothes and equipments a bit too clean??? He's an adventurer, his clothing( gauntlets, boots etc) and equipments should look worn. The way you presented Link makes him seem like he just took a bath before fighting Ganondorf :/
He will be for the Final Battle film. For this teaser, just imagine that he had a good night's rest and washed his clothes. I mean wouldn't you take a bath before going to fight Ganondorf? :-) But yes, of course we will dirty him up for the final fight.

PlayerPiano If she just said 'hey' that'd lose most of the negative comments, aside from the tires and the distance from the destination, it looks good. The only other thing I saw was the horse ran lazily, it looks accurate but it felt like a brisk jog, link also did not feel too urgent. Just depends of course on the story as this has no narrative. I hope this didn't come off negative, just feedback because I'd love to see it work out!

Anyone else notice this is just several angles of some cosplay dude riding a horse in the open wild? He then dismounts and pets the horse for a while. I want to be positive, but this doesn't get me excited for anything. Congrats for attempting this, I mean it. Follow your dreams. But the RUclips-sphere is getting more and more competitive with fan films/trailers. 5 years ago this would have been pretty fun to see, but the fan film genre has matured quite a bit over the last few years. Simply shortening it to 15 seconds of riding a horse as opposed to almost a full minute would have at least made it pass for a teaser. As it stands, your sensibilities as film makers are already questionable due to the fact that you felt the need to just show establishing shots over and over. Yes they were all relatively pretty, but just because you have it, doesn't mean you need to use it.

This was nice. I liked it. When Navi asked Link if he's ready to go then followed by a sigh*from Link, reminded me of the same sutle transition from when your about to enter a new Dungen. Ominous.
When I think of The Legend of Zelda the first games that come to mind are;The Adventure of Link, a Link to the Past and Link's Awakening.
I'll admit,I did expect ONE "Hiya!" When he was riding the horse. (Epona,if that was her)

I'm sorry but this trailer is just dumb, and believe me I was pretty hyped when I heard of a live action but this will not do.. and I am a long time Zelda fan.
First, make the custom better, seriously I've seen cosplay better then that.
Second, get someone who actually looks like link or at lest a fan girls fantasy vision of him.

I'm a massive fan of the Legend of Zelda series and this just reminds me why a live action Legend of Zelda would probably be terrible. Look at the atrocity that was the IGN April fools trailer. Even though that was a prank it still looked terrible.

Michael Woffindin Dude, wrong. That's what the Ocarina of Time Hylian Shield looks like. The shield is fine. The gauntlets are fine. You cant screw up grey trousers. The hat isn't wrong. It's called a Phrygian cap, and that's what link wears. I didn't see the Master Sword blade itself, so I can't comment on it, but the pommel and grip look fine. the sheathe is blue and gold colored, it looks accurate and fine. Or did you want an expensive and ornate metal sheathe with silver and gold inlays like the game had? It's making Link seem realistic, being said, people of that assumed period from scandinavian origins would wear riding coats to protect their tunics. You don't actually know as much about Zelda as you think for being a "massive fan"

his appearance changes because they are different people. The Hero of Time should be accurate to the Hero of Time, which that one here is 99% accurate, minus the cape, which is a skyward sword manga thing where link has a cape.

The Navi thing was slightly awkward but I freaking LOVE this dude as Link. I really hope they will go with an unknown actor. He looked pretty damn cool, loved his facial expressions.

Seriously, everyone who doesn't like this should remove their fingers from the keyboard for a moment, and remind themselves that this is RUclips and as far as RUclips videos go this is pretty damn beautiful. This took time, and some pretty serious skill. You think you could do better? Then go out and do it. No? Then now about you forget everything you know about Legend of Zelda and appreciate this for what it is- a wonderfully-filmed tidbit of an adventurer, his horse, and his (admittedly chipmunk-sounding) fairy.
I love it. It might not be for everyone but we all have different tastes; even as a huge nerd (HUGE)&gamer from the age of 2 (I started on the NES), I. LOVE. THIS.

Don't let the negative comments get to you guys. This is hands down the best fan project I've seen for anything Zelda filmmaking related. I even would go as far to say some people are jealous that they don't have the time, resources and talent to go as far as to make their own personal vision. (Which, I guarantee their vision sucks if they see it thatLord of the Rings looking April Fools joke as a better interpretation.) Just listen to a little of the honest criticisms, ignore the bashing, keep improving.
