  • Acoustic Sounds CEO Chad Kassem is still passionate about obtaining the richest, purest sound possible on every album his company reissues.
Showing the behind-the-scenes effort that produces those vaunted Analogue Productions reissues (the reissue label of Acoustic Sounds, Inc.) is the goal of a new video series Acoustic Sounds is producing. Published on the company’s social media platforms, these videos will keep customers up-to-date about upcoming product releases as well as aspects of the production process. Expect to see subjects such as Quality Record Pressings plating and pressing, how Analogue Productions Ultra Tape reel-to-reel copies are manufactured, and more.
Engaging with customers is, and always will be important at Acoustic Sounds. But with thousands of customers worldwide, and managing a company that employs more than 100 workers, that one-on-one customer contact that helped Kassem grow his business is today more of a challenge. Using video/social media, Kassem is enthusiastic about reaching his customers in the most efficient and engaging way possible.

    Hi Chad,
First of all I hope you and your loved ones are doing well during these difficult times. During this pandemic many of us have made the best of these times by spending more time spinning good vinyl!
Thanks to Acoustic Sounds I found a liking to different kinds of music, from classical and jazz to rock and soul. The quality of your products have shown me what vinyl recordings are all about. The passion and love you put into each album is something we all can feel and hear!
Last night I was listening to the Acoustic Sounds master reissue of The Door's album "LA Woman". Listening to this great album I couldn't help but to think about what it would be like to give the Acoustic Sounds treatment to some of most iconic Latin American rock albums. Through the years Latin America has had some amazing rock bands but unfortunately LPs from these Latin American bands are notorious for not sounding their best due to pressing issues and/or bad mastering. I'm absolutely convinced that many people would love to hear the iconic albums of legendary musicians like Soda Stereo, Lust Alberto Spinetta, Caifanes and many others at their best. I'm sure that people will agree 100% that having these iconic Latin American rock albums reissue by Acoustic Sounds would be a dream come true!!!!!
Thanks for the great work and I hope that one day you consider giving these great Latin American rock to the Acoustic Sounds treatment.

Chad, with all the FABULOUS jazz vocal records you have been releasing (Peggy Lee, Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan, etc.) , you are missing a DYNAMITE album released on the RCA Living Stereo series. I am 58 years old and have only recently discovered this jazz “treasure” by chance. The album is “Della” by Della Reese. (LSP-2157). Holy cow! What an incredible “in your face” swing jazz vocal this is...worthy of an AP reissue. Many probably don’t even realize this album exists or even heard of her, but a record that will knock your socks off! Like Simone, very interesting vocal styling...but that BAND! Wowza!! Keep up the tradition of releasing these great jazz vocalists of our time. This is a style that may never be repeated, but are worthy of your analogue treatment. Keep up the great work!!

I dont think either will happen for a while, since Zeppelin is fine with the 2014 reissues and Blue Note is already doing their Tone Poets and Classic series. If they were to let an Audiophile company press their stuff it would be Music Matters since they already know how to do it.

Chad needs to somehow get ahold of Jimmy Page and tell him how many people aren’t interested in his digital remasters on vinyl. I’d pay top dollar for those 45 RPM cuts to get repressed and I just can’t bring myself to do the same for Page’s releases. It’s a shame that those are just sitting around not being utilized for no other reason than Page being greedy as hell. I hope we see some Who repressed as well. Both artists are sorely lacking in my collection because of how expensive it is to get either clean originals or the classic records pressings. No doubt there’s way more people who would be willing to pay big bucks for AAA cuts of those artists than there were when classic was still around.

    • @snapcracklenpop821

The Page reissues are cheap as chips. Why would you need to pay top dollar for them? I'd like them all analogue reissued as well but don't need 45's personally. Take up twice as much space in the shelves, and ruin the flow of the music - up, down, up, down, up....Horses for courses.

Chad, Speaking of transparency, I would like to see AP provide the recording/Mastering/pressing info of the vinyl in regards to what's analogue and what is digital when possible. There is a lot of digitally processed vinyl going around . Maybe something like the SPARS code would help to inform us on how the vinyl was produced and what it is that we we are actually buying. Saving the world from bad sound, indeed. You guys are #1.

The name of my label is Analogue Productions. We use analog master tapes 99% of the time. There's a few exceptions, a couple that I can think of - Nils Lofgren and Cowboy Junkies - these were digital recordings. The Wonderful Sounds series are made from our DSD masters, which are mastered off the original analog tape. It would be almost impossible to transfer all of these analog tapes to an analog tape copy and cut from this. Plus it would add another layer of analog tape hiss, so we do feel this is the best way to produce the best sounding stuff. Sam Cooke greatest hits was one that we knew the 3-track masters were transfered to DSD. We knew we would never be able to get those 3 track tapes from many different sessions, but felt that using the DSD directly from the 3-track would produce the best sounding result. I can't think of any other ones in the AP reissue archive that we use digital from. Maybe there's 1 or 2 that I can't think of right now, but please remember our name is Analogue Productions. We try very hard and are very transparent and are proud of the results we get. Hopefully when you listen to our stuff, you can tell the quality. As far as to get the other labels to list all the information, it would be nice, but it probably will not happen. Please refer to our sticker on the jackets that explains our AP guarantee.

I absolutely LOVE Acoustic Sounds since I've been collecting for over 40 years. My checking account absolutely HATES Acoustic Sounds, since I've spent untold piles of money to them over the years. Of many titles I would love to see them remaster and reissue, one that would be totally amazing would be a UHQR 45-RPM version of 'Dark Side of the Moon'. Not sure if EMI (like Sony for the Miles Davis) will let that master go out to anyone. I wonder if A.S. has tried or thought of doing that one. The Mo-Fi version is spectacular, but I bet the UHQR 45-RPM version would be even better. Another one (since I'm now making requests I guess) would be one for Christmas- the Nat King Cole Christmas album. Am really surprised no one has done an audiophile pressing of that. I treasure the 45-RPM version of the 'Charlie Brown Christmas' I have. It's never sounded better. Can't wait to hear about more releases later this year.

Hi Chad - Great Video. Sorry if this was already asked - I looked through the thread and didn't see it. Classic released a 33 and a 45 version of KOB. Which master will you be using? Also, someone below is suggesting the MoFi is a better reissue. The MoFi was done using the 3 track to 2 track analog mixdown that Mark Wilder of Sony created. This was directly confirmed to me in an email that Rob LoVerde was kind enough to respond to. As you said in the video, Grundman created the Classic masters directly from the 3 track safeties. They were recorded on a separate machine at the same time as the ones that were used from 1959 to the first CD version in the mid-80's and were audibly worn out. The backup set also had all the tracks from the session that comprised side 1 at the correct speed. So very cool that you are going to release BG's master once again. 45 or 33?

I've been collecting for many years. Many Motown & Atlantic singles were pressed on styrene, too high a volume usually, wore very quickly. The complete singles series, remaining volumes, sound good. In the 2008 Universal Fire, many, many original master tapes were lost. They had done a `pretty good job' of digitalizing these, & keep in mind, that the original transfer rate is usually about two, three or four times that encoded on normal CD's. SACD is better, DSD too. All of the transfer equipment stages, are important. For example, early on, when Las Paul recorded his first hits, there was one tape recording head, for record & playback. Head gap. This is O K at 30 ips, 15 ips. For optimal high frequency playback, `retrieval' the playback gaps should be `narrower' to help capture the highs. There's always the chance that modern, more improved equipment, electronics (tubes?) will `extract better sound. I've studied this, experimented.

@@richardsoffice9176 Thank you. Good information. It took me fifteen years, but I do have the complete single series, all the volumes, so I agree sound is better, as most of the material came from singles mono masters which Motown's classic period is known for. I am also lucky enough to have hunted down my favorite Motown 45s and promos that were NOT styrene(I hate styrene, precisely because as you stated, they wear out quickly).

Thank you!! Every record you’ve pressed that I own are the best sounding records in my collection. I recently pre-ordered the 2LP 45RPM Kind of Blue MoFi that says “Awaiting repress”...is that actually getting repressed? I’m thinking now that I’ve seen this that I’d like to switch my order the UHQR instead...I NEED THAT! Man I’m stoked. Keep up the incredible work!!!

The 6-Eye and the MFSL are the best stereo versions of KoB, followed by the Classic Records, which AP repressing as UHQR. No one can judge UHQR before listening, but if it will sound like the 1994 reissue by CR, based on what Chad is saying as it will be just better packaging and quality pressing, then It is a matter of preference and budget.

Many of the pressing plants are at least 4 months behind, as well as where we have our jackets printed. Represses will take awhile. We mastered ours off of the original 3-track tape by Bernie Grundman, and pressed it on a manual Finebilt press on Clarity Vinyl. I know which one I would buy.

Slightly younger customer here that loves your output, but would love to see stuff like 90's/2000's rock. Are albums that weren't originally recorded all-analog off the table? Thanks for the videos!

ok chad --quick question about the Kind of BLue --I remember that classic records made theirinitial release of it as a double set since the one side was off speed (the one we grew up on) --later I bought their 45 rpm issue (as well as the mofi 45 rpm) --so are you planning to do the correct speed of the one side ==or the one we greww up on.

So what’s the diff between the 45rpm of Out of the Cool produced by Analogue Productions in 2009 and this new one? Was the 2009 not cut from the master tapes? Maybe I can trade mine in :)

International shipping seems to have quite a bit to do with COVID-related staff shortages and restrictions. Anything I’ve had shipped from Europe to the US in the past 8 months has either been very expensive yet delivered reliably and quickly by special air courier or “affordable” yet delayed by up to 10 weeks, often with zero or poor tracking. A couple of time the cheaper shipping resulted in list packages.
