Merry Christmas Gabriel. 0.45 you have your katanas upside down and that can damage and dull the blade. Also it is traditional to store katanas with the blade up.
Merry Christmas, sensei Gabriel. Not only are you a great fighter, but you have a very good heart. We are so blessed to have a martial arts instructor like you.
family, food, and good company will do more for your healing,,, in my opinion, than the light training,,, but then I am not a pro athlete and it won't hurt for me to miss a day. But then there is ice on the Cariboo lakes so I might just find myself a pick up game somewhere . Either way you enjoy your day stay safe, I hear the winds on the south island are stiff today.
Hey Gabriel Merry Christmas! Do you have any advice for when you feel unmotivated or burnt out from training? I had a fight coming up the 14th of this month, and I trained quite hard for 3 months up to it. But 3 days before it were to happen it got cancelled.. all that worrying and training for nothing.. I train Judo and kickboxing 4-6 times a week and have for years but this december it's like I just ran into a wall of demotivation.. I just feel 0 motivation to start up training and competing again in the new year since I feel like I have nothing to show for it this whole year ;(
An opinion from Gabriel's dad........ Don't think of any part of that training experience as "nothing" or "a waste of time". I have been training , fighting, teaching for over 5 decades. I have seen so many people over the years that "try' Martial Arts. There is a huge difference between "trying" and "doing". Those of you who train year after year are the do'ers. Those who train for 6 months a year or two.... those are the try'ers. You have no idea how many people I have seen that have taken a fight, tell everyone and anyone they know or meet that they are a fighter and are fighting soon. Shortly after saying they will do it the fear starts to set in. It may be a week later - or a day before the fight that the fear got them and they drop out, pull the plug, outright quit. They may need a convenient lie such as " I hurt something, a sprain, I am sick etc...... Fighters like yourself - step up, take a fight, train like crazy and whether the event got cancelled or would have gone through..... YOU WERE THERE. Ready to step up and see it through. You have learned how do a training camp, conquer your fears, and you are now better than you were before you took this fight. It is certainly disappointing when events get cancelled / or your opponent drops out at some point or last minute. Gabriel has trained for a great many fights that were cancelled, opponents dropped out at the actual fight...... the list goes on and on. It is an unfortunate part of doing this sport. Do no kid yourself - you taught yourself a lot from what you just did. The next training camp will seem a bit easier as you had to face your fears everyday just to show up and train. Anyone who tells you they have never experienced fear accepting and training for a fight..... a fight where your opponent has spent an equal amount of time preparing to meet you in the ring and beat you up...... well, they are full of crap. Everyone experiences fear, stress, exhaustion, disappointment and great joy from having the courage to see something like that through. You will enjoy it more the more you fight - but, will still be nervous and experience fear. Gabriel's dad - Keith Varga
Merry Christmas Gabriel ! Could you please suggest which martial art I should take up to improve my deconditioned lungs , something that isn't overly strenuous and is effective for the streets ? Will Muay Thai do ?
I've never liked that they're called speed bags. I'm quick, if it was about speed I would be fine, but it's about _rhythm,_ and I'm rhythmically challenged.
