I came across Kelly about 5 years ago when I got this book. I found a used edition that was apparently a gift to someone named Barbara Shaw given and signed by Richard Foster. I’ve read it 3 times. I’ve been moved and encouraged by the simplicity of his approach to the awakened life. “…we no longer live merely in time but we live also in the Eternal. The world of timeis no longer the sole reality of which we are aware. A second Reality hovers, quickens, quivers, stirs, energizes us, breaks in upon us and in love embraces us, together with all things, within Himself.” One of the most poignant and comprehensive, yet simple descriptions of the inner life in any book I’ve read in these past 15 years of my journey in awakening. God certainly holds our reality in His hands. I also have “The Eternal Promise.” Thanks for sharing.

Probably a good book for those overscrupulous or highly self-critical souls who keep falling and failing. No grand plans or resolutions. Just a simple turning to God in the moment where time and eternity intersect. A text to savour. I must get a copy! Many thanks and a happy new year!

Great video! It really sounds like a great book to read and re-read continuously. And the fact that it is freely available through the web archive helps too. :)

Very interesting. Reminds me of Practice the Presence of God by brother Lawrence. I'd love to read this book. Thanks.

Yeah they share some similarities. You should definitely give Kelly's Testament a read.

    Thx.
So far I read “The Pursuit of God” and a newer version of “The Imitation of Christ” each year. I will see if I add this to my annual list. Appreciate your comments.

I love this, especially the notes about how these moments of clarity can slip away but we mustn’t get lost in recriminations.
I’ve never been “ambitious”, yet always felt I “should” be. The past year however, the Lord has been showing me how to be content in the quiet. Content where I am.
One of my favorite verses lately, Luke 5:16, “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”
Our Lord sought quiet solitude with the Father, so should we.
Excellent post here, thank you. Following and I’ll be checking out that book.

I would like to suggest you check the Mahayana branch of Zen Buddhism; studying it has been a blessing in my understanding the Ways of God, in a profound way 🙏🏼 (in my experience of course 👌🏼)
