My gran would also always say "God forgive me for swearing" before preceding to swear like a sailor 😂😂😂
It's great to see Americans truly appreicate british humour.
On a chat show, Catherine Tate revealed the origin of 'Nan'. As a drama student, she did a charity show for pensioners in an old folks' home. They did a musical dance number in front of them and when they'd finished, one of the old women said, "Thank Gawd that's over; now we can watch some fucking television..."
Nan reminds me of my own Mother who has been gone now for 16 years. I remember when I visited her in her Warden controlled apartment for the elderly and she proceeded to tell me about her neighbour, Joe being burgled the day before. This had come a few weeks after another neighbour, Elsie having been burgled. You can imagine as her Son I was concerned about the possibility of the robbers targeting the elderly apartments, only for my mum to comment as follows; "Ere, John was burgled last night, that's only a few weeks after Elsie got done...what have they effing got that I haven't!". She was obviously more concerned with the shame of not having anything worthy of stealing rather than being burgled! They don't make them like that anymore.
Haha, that's very hyacinth 'bouquet' of her😂
Check out Catherine Tate on the Graham Norton show with Tom Cruise. She tells the story of the origin / inspiration for this character. Tom finds it hilarious!
I was just about to post this 👍
Oh yes, when im feeling down i always watch a Catherine tate sketch, usually a nan one, it always cheers me up.

Catherine Tate's posh mum is great, or the gay son sketches. The woman is a genius
Definitely it's such a shame we don't see more of her now,we could all do with a laugh👍🍻
@@martindunstan8043 She did tour and came to Bristol and I had tickets. Sadly my body decided that that would be a good time to really ill and need an operation. My friend who went in my place said she was amazing and had actually tailored some jokes to fit in with the local area.
And boob job!😂
Would you like a cinnemon and gooseberry youghurt?
Catherine tate starred as a french teacher in a series called old school, so good
Check out her Lauren schoolgirl character. The sketch with David Tennant as her English teacher is hilarious.
Bite me alien boi..!
'Johns a gay man now' is a great sketch of hers.
Great character from Tate haha that Gay fella is hilarious. Who Dear Me Dear No Dear was his catchphrase 👩🦲
@@davidcorbett1713 that's Derrick. I think she means the northern Ireland character where her catch phrase is 'John is a gay man now '🤣🤣🤣
@@GrainneScarlett Yup. "Have you heard about our John? He's a GAY. MAN. NOW." 🤣🤣
She definitely represents a lot of nans in England especially in London
Typical working class London lady. Excellent.
Nan is the best of her characters
If you worked in retail you will definitely relate to Catherine Tate, Nan at the pound shop!
hahahaha yes that's another great one!
Love her "drunk Bride" sketch too :)
Watch "Kevin becomes a teenager" with Harry Enfield. Another brilliant character which is very relatable.
The sketch were Perry discovers Oasis is classic!

No matter how many times I've seen this, still cracks me up!
Bernie the Irish nurse is hysterical.
I agree, especially the scene with George Michael.

Nan as in Nanny, my wives Nan is exactly like her !!! lol
Awesome look up how nan character was created, a story on the graham norton show with tom cruise.
When he turns up and she changes her tune, we say that's being two faced.
I'd say about 90% of ppl I know are in some way or form
Catherine tates offensive translater and nan mouse in the house both classics.
Catherine Tate is a brilliant actress
Old angry blunt cockney nans (grandmothers) are definitely a type lol she gets this spot on
Hilarious! Nan and The Mouse and Nan and The Scotch Woman are also hilarious. Catherine Tate has so many other characters as well and it's so hard to pick a favourite out of any of them, she's so talented.
Have you watched any Billy Connolly? His stand up is up there with some of the greatest and his 'Potatoes of The Night' or 'Old Lady on a Bus' or 'There's one in every town' just crack me up.
British comedy is the best.
It's amazing. It's like the writers of this show met my Grandmother and based the character to her. May she rest in peace... although there won't be any peace in heaven if she is there.
Catherine Tate has an impressive CV , she was in 17 episodes of Dr Who were she played Donna Noble Dr Who's assistant (David tennant ) , she was in the original series of The Office 34 episodes . Currently she is doing voices for Ducktales lol .
The Doctor Donna
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Naan is the indian bread. Nan is short for nanny which is the same as nanna or grandmother you guys are so cool big live ❤️🇬🇧
Drunken brides wedding speech is magnificent 😁
You guys need to get on the 8 out of 10 cats does countdown rabbit hole!! In particular the poem by Joe Wilkinson.
The Nan character is the best , we love it here in the uk . There’s loads of the Nan episodes
She's great! I'd missed this skit back in the day so was fresh to me too, brilliant stuff!
Nan is one of her best characters. She's brilliant.
There's a Nan movie being made can't wait to see it
Nan is my absolute favourite.
Love Catherine Tate
She didn’t forget the day, it’s English sarcasm (she’s taking “the piss”)
I'd say she's being two-faced, duplicitous. I don't think it's sarcasm.
Try her, my son's a Gay man, sketch!
One of the best
Comedic purposes my arse, she’s an amalgam of most women of that age in the UK!
Too fecking right we are , take no shit 😂
Catherine got this character from an elderly people’s home when she was visiting there
Nan's anger management is a funny sketch that sticks out in my mind, loving your good work guys.
Nan and the Ugly Child is brilliant
Underrated part: Matt Horne's face when she's letting him out and on her way back in the room lol
Watch Catherine Tate Nan with Charlotte Church. The sketch in the doctors surgery is great too
You Guys really come to England, catch a few of these recordings in the Studios, the tickets are free for the recordings.....
Hiya Guys I've recently subscribed to your Channel. I've been laughing ever since. Respect fellas
Catherine Tate is appearing at em con thingy next weekend in Nottingham. I might pop along. A load of Dr Who’s, cat from Red dwarf plus other stars. Awesome 😎
Catherine Tate is so talented she has written everything, so many sketches to check out, you are in for a treat.
Catherine Tate is fantastic. She also played in Doctor Who.
The mouse with Nan is the funniest
She did a fantastic sketch as a typical dumb school girl with Tony Blair ( while he was priminister) for comic relief..... very funny and Tony Blair did a great impression of her character
Wow, I love that you Americans love Catherine Tate. These are old shows and it is shame there is nothing new. She also played a very young character .
FYI… it’s pronounced Nan as in frying *pan*
Basically how the kid in the programme pronounces it.
Nan's Christmas Carol is perfect for getting you in the Xmas mood 😁
Please watch Catherine Tate/Nan Ugly Baby
Nice one guys👍 Catherine Tate's character Nan literally gives no f####! others that will crack you up are ugly baby, doctors surgery and the one with Charlotte Church if you know her. Cheers lads✌️🇬🇧✌️🇺🇸🍻
I love that you guys can see it now .....when I first saw this programme I was in fits ....pure nan vibe x
This woman is real and she's everywhere! Atleast in the UK.
Lauren (her schoolgirl) is the typical teenager trying to get one over on the teachers The French teacher is well worth a watch
Man with The Mouse is hilarious.
👍😂 I forgot about that one and it's brilliant
Welcome to the talent that is Catherine Tait, a British comedy legend. All her characters are funny but nan is definitely the best.
A 'Doss House' was the cheapest form of accommodation in Victorian London, basically a room with a rope tied across the middle, which people would lean or flop over to sleep.
I had 2 of nan they were both great characters miss them dearly x
There were many ladies like that growing up in the East End of London when I was growing up in the 1970's and 80's, I'm sure we've all met a "Nan" at some point !
Look again at her grandson. He is Iwan Rheon, who played the psychopath, Ramsey Bolton in Game of Thrones. He finally got his comeuppance in the best episode, Battle of the Bastards. A brilliant actor.
Nan not non!! 😂
Another great one is Catherine Tate's workplace fundraiser sketches absolutely brutal!
Everyone loves Nan but I really like her teen character Lauren. The French lesson sketch with David Tennant stands out in my mind.
New UK sub here, keep it up guys!
Your right she was being ‘polite’ 😂
'Ugly baby' sketch is one of the best!
Nan Ugly child sketch is even better !!
"He had a funny head." Certainly one of her best. Charlotte Church one was good too.
Nan or Nanna in UK ..... Tate is brilliant in all she does .... Every one of her characters are fabulous ...
Great channel guys, try Manchester band Elbow, Grounds for Divorce, Lippy Kids, or magnificent are three belters….
Naan is the Indian bread thing. Nan is your grandmother. Short nan, not over pronounced, longer naaaaaaaaaaan!!
It's not that nan is forgetful she's not, she's so blatantly sarcastic....
Whata fuckin liberty! 🤣🤣🤣
Ya’ll gotta watch Catherine Tait in Anger management ...the scene with her group therapist and others made me laugh out ..almost peed myself...mr. Fane’e🤣🤣🤣🤣
Look for the episode with Peter Kaye in it. And another one with Kathy Burke as her daughter. Kathy Burke is brilliant in Harry Enfield and chums, Gimme Gimme and Absolutely fabulous. Peter Kaye is a British stand up Comedian. He also does sketch shows. He did a show called, Max and Paddy. He's very clever and very funny.
@ 5:15... um Spencer, your laugh is exactly like Nan’s cackle at the same time as her!
🤣🤣🤣
@@EmbraceTheSuck21 please try her “Lauren” character! My fave of that is Lauren’s wedding. I think maybe cuz ur in USA maybe you can’t see as many clips as here in Canadia... from the BBC . Anyway keep doing more Catherine Tate, she has no limits. maybe you’d like Little Britain too if you can get it. ❤️🇨🇦🤓ottawa. Or her “drunken bride” clip....so good
I would be very happy if you showed the Christmas Special entitled A Christman Carol. Its hilarious. Love from Scotland. xx
Love love love Catherine Tate, she is wonderful and does loads of stuff.. xxxxx
Definitely react to more "Nan"!
A.Nan-Grandma
B.Naan- Bread for curry.
C. You do get grandmother's like that in the UK.
The Nan character is a nightmare but hilarious, try nan/anger management. Great reaction
If you only knew she is a young, attractive, well spoken woman
She's neither attractive or particularly well spoken.
@@rnw2739 compared to the Nan character she is
@@moirabaker458 Well that ain't hard lool but ok, yeah you're right there.
Catherine Tate’s character Lauren - French exam 🤣🤣🤣 also HILARIOUS! 🤣🤣🤣
In Liverpool, we call granny nan, we call mother and father me Mar and me Dar.

Oh and Catherine Tate's ginger refuge is brilliant!
