Ambush % chance has nothing to do with detection. If you ambush an ai next to a hero, army or settlement of theirs, you will be detected and taken out of ambush. If you want to ambush someone, you have better odds not being taken out of ambush on the start of their turn If your further away

Ambush success/defense and ambush spotting aren’t the same mechanic, and I’m pretty sure they don’t influence each other, your ambush getting spotted is mostly based on if armies and agents start their turn near you, even non-hostile ones, does the game tell you any of this? Off course not. Is there counter play? Not really. Because this is twwh3, a well made game with no obtuse mechanics at all! Edit: yeah it’s magic don’t worry about it

How about a campaign where you can only recruit chaos dawi units (aka. Chaos dwarves and scrapmetal) and your mission is to remove the ancient enemy of the dawi, the elves, the only elves should be ummmm interns to your capitalist society that they have not chose to participate in and will have an unfortunate accident. Please note that convoys are not included and summoned armies are not subject to these rules. I would suggest zatan the black because he gets an additional convoy.

Thats not how it works, and it’s actually even less intuitive. Ambush success chance has nothing to with being discovered. Discoverability is a completely unrelated stat, and it’s hidden too. Ambush success chance affects wether you get a successful ambush or an «ambush failed» regular battle. Discoverability, weirdly, also plays in but affects whether the AI spots your army before moving into it, thus nullifying the ambush altogether.
Ah, I love empire huntsmen They're so dogwater in campaign when you could just roll gunpowder, but in multiplayer they just provide your apearmen with ways to take out units that the ai is too stupid to use effectively...but actual players are not (#1, by FAR, being missile cavalry) Note: it's kinda ironic that they're less good at hunting the large targets that Madkus Wolfheart would lead you to believe, just because gunpowder is funpowder But hey, theyll still ventilate lower armor SEM that don't fly

thats how it worked since empire, if the target is within said zone control, it is a viable target for attacks
