  • Part 2 of a video I shot in July 2015 at Kellingley Colliery, 2nd Level, 5 months before closure.
Part 2 includes the Huwood Gear Head, Skip Conveyor, Skips, The Pickle Jar (electricians cabin), Pit bottom substation, Loco Garage, A ride up the Shaft, Lamproom.
Apologies for the picture quality, my camera didn't like the dark.

You did a good job capturing all that footage, as now we are a country without any heavy industry. . 👍👍

Watching these underground video's always brings my memories rushing back. breaks my heart. I can close my eyes and walk miles of tunnels and gateways memories of knocking my knees up crawling the face when my knee pads rolled back, or one occasion when my toe cap was force's back whilst rushing to catch up with the snaker. yeah only us old lads know what I'm on about.

I've been checking out some of the old pits near me in south Wales. I feel gutted for these lads. They were a family and worked so hard. I reckon we may well regret turning our backs on coal one day. We've turned our backs on all our heavy industry and we're just not ready for it!

I have much respect for these blokes. Shame the mines closed. Would be good to see this mine now, may well be flooded if the pumps have been turned off. I visited a coal museum in wakefield and it was fascinating.

Agreed! I enjoyed it too. Most of the pits were closed in South Derbyshire by the time I was born, so being able to go down was fantastic. Makes you appreciate miners all the more.

@@Cxwl9 yes they had two shafts one for man riddling and one for supplies. There was a drift for the conveyor to reach the surface.
