Jamie Lee Curtis did her own helicopter stunt, after being encouraged by Arnold. It was filmed on her birthday and she said she wanted to do it because she wanted to be able to look back and say “I fucking did that”, which is amusingly her character’s exact motivation.
This is my favorite Schwarzenegger movie ever. It's not just Arnold, it's Tom Arnold, Jamie Leie Curtis, Tia Carrere (Juno) and Bill Paxton. Everyone was perfectly cast, even the bad guys. I think it's the comedy element that adds so much for me.
I think it's one of the few movies, along with Bad Boys, where all the jokes work for me and make me laugh, something that doesn't happen to me, for example, with the jokes in the Marvel movies, where sometimes the jokes are very silly and they cause embarrassment, more than laughter
Fun fact: When Arnold smashes the car window at 21:23 he was supposed to smash a different one, which was prepared with safety glass. He accidentally smashed a real car window.
The actor who plays the boss of them, with the eyepatch, is the legendary actor Charlton Heston, an old glory of old Hollywood, his most recognized film is the classic Ben Hur.
When Harry kissed Helen in the Hotel room, his whole point was to reveal it was him at that point. He was going to reveal himself and that would be the spice back in their marriage. But she conked him on the head before he could reveal it was him.
True Lies is a 1994 American spy action comedy film written and directed by James Cameron, based on the 1991 French comedy film La Totale! And yes, James Bond also tangoed in Never Say Never Again...Sean Connery in 1983. The tango dancing in this film is a direct homage to Sean dancing in that film.

It WAS on purpose, although not rehearsed beforehand, and Arnold didn't know so his reaction was indeed real. Also when he dropped the recorder, that wasn't in the script.
@@nickreacts6394@21:25 Arnold missed the mark and inadvertently punched the wrong window. He was supposed to hit the front passenger window, which was made of special, easy to break glass. Director’s cut is both absolutely too long and absolutely the best way to watch the film and have any hope of understanding the last quarter. I’m always conflicted in recommending a version to the uninitiated…
Funny when Helen said, "I married Rambo." I got a movie suggestion reaction for you. The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz.
Another really funny action comedy with Arnie, and a must watch, is Last Action Hero. In fact I always think of Last Action Hero as being the most like True Lies in its tone.
I remember seeing this when it came out. :) "The bridge is out...!" still kills me every time. Great reaction -- thank you! Have you seen Kindergarten Cop? That's another great Arnie movie to check out if you haven't already. Thanks again!
I think what makes James Cameron such a special writer and director is that he has not only the big events and deep meaningful messages, but also many nuanced touches. In this film there are seemlying thousands of them. Here are a couple of small things off the top of my head: Dana feeding the "gizmo" dog the cake batter. Also, you caught on to how pathetic that dog was as Harry dragged it around in the rain during their "walk". However, they weren't mean about the dog - it was still a loved family member. The big guy in the bathroom fight scene was shown as stronger and winning the brute strength battle - only Harry's ingenuity to rip the air blower off the wall as a weapon gave him the victory. Dana taking money, and that her parents are Axle Rose and Madonna. "Hurry 'cause my horse is getting tired". Also, Harry's light-hearted chewing out of the horse on the roof. "Welcome to the club". BTW, Tom Arnold ad-libbed that story of the ice cube trays as Rosanne Barr did that when they broke up. "but they were all bad" The battery running out on the camcorder and the guy was sweating it so much. Helen put her ring on her right-hand finger with the diamond on the inside(at the hotel), so that when she slapped Juno she cut her face - to me that was the women's "it's on" moment and nothing is off limits from there on. "That key" (which is no longer there), and his expression when he cannot believe what he is seeing as Harry arrives in the jet. "'I've been in the van for 15 years" which is not only very funning, but also revisiting the theme of being in a rut and missing out on the excitement like Harry and Helen were. ...and so many more. To me this is one of the best-crafted movies of all time, and still very re-watchable and enjoyable even after 100s of times.
31:00 Remember, Harry repurposed the mission resources from following Juno and the terrorists to first follow his wife, and then play act with her. That was the hotel room he told Juno he was staying at. They literally was watching him since he checked in with Juno, which is how they 1st follow him into the mall. Waiting for a moment for Harry to let his guard down, they thought he did order a hooker, until Helen ruined it by saying she's his wife.

Amazing classic True Lies directed by James Cameron starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold, Bill Paxton and Charlton Heston (cameo). This film is a remake from the 1991 french comedy film La Totale! thank you Thor great reaction awesome👍👍👍
Somehow this movie manages to be serious, full of really good action, comedic, deal with drama and family issues, all at once. For me this and T2 are where Cameron peaked. This is where he was a master. Now he just has more money than God. Paxton absolutely oozes in that role. Tom Arnold is freaking hilarious. Tia Carrere's face when the terrorist hits her the 2nd time is priceless. "Hit me again, see what happens!" The terrorists face seeing the Harrier jet there in disbelief. It's just a damn fun and good ride start to finish. Doesn't waste time. Keeps moving. Also, it has extremely amazing miniature works that is nearly flawless.
To answer your question at the beginning of the video, it's not an original film since it's a remake of a french film released in 1991 called 'La Totale'. 😉
Too true. She was brilliant in "The Alphabet Killer" and "Bring it On". Unfortunately her performance would be the only reason to watch either of them more than once.
I wouldn't say this was her biggest role, since she was only in the film for a few minutes. She was the lead in other movies, like the horror flick Wrong Turn.
@@Rocket1377 Right, biggest role is wrong, I meant it's her only role in a big budget Hollywood Blockbuster. The rest of her films are rather for a niche audience, she absolutely had the talent and the look that could have made her a big movie star.
My favorite Arnold film. It's exceptionally paced and mixes comedy/action incredibly well. Tie in the effects, the cast performances, and the stunts and it's just a great flick which is as good today as it was when it released. The bridge blowing up from the missiles and tossing that truck is still one of the best practical effects I've seen in film.
If you want Arnold's OTHER perfect comedy/action movie PLEASE do Kindergarten Cop next. You'll LOVE it :). Jamie Lee is a freaking ROCKSTAR. Wanting to do that helicopter stunt for her 40th birthday. And Arnold actually almost died during the hotel roof scene. I read that they almost couldn't get the horse to back up.
LOVE THIS MOVIE!! Jamie Lee Curtis took the Golden Globe for Best Actress Musical Or Comedy. There were talks of a Sequel but it was cancelled due to the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. However a TV series based on the is set to premiere on CBS Wednesday March 1.
I’m assuming Arnold isn’t involved in the series and Cameron is still living in his mansion on Pandora, but it’s cool a movie made so long ago can still get a spin-off
It is pity, as it's sequel could have been called *False Truth* with the same title sequence. However, it didn't stop Hollywood to make *Collateral Damage* a year after 9/11.
I saw this movie when I was much younger but I was so psyched to see Charlton Heston in it even though he had a short role. I was only allowed to watch movies from the 50s when I was younger and him as Moses in the "The Ten Commandments" was what I recognized him from when I saw him in this one. By far the best Moses in my opinion.
It’s amazing how people who are permanent staples on TV go one day and no one remembers them. The red glasses! 🤓 There was a comedian with a lady puppet who was always on TV in the early 80s and I always wondered where he went. I believe he passed of aids. 😢
I originally saw this in theater. We stayed in the hotel the horse stunt was filmed in. It’s the Westin Bonaventure in L.A.. There used to be a little quip about it in their hotel info, at least in 2007. Also some of the atmosphere long shots from Blade Runner were shot from what was a restaurant in the hotel when we stayed there. This is probably one of my favorite action/comedy movies. Good call!
The guy who is playing Arnold's partner was married to Roseanne Barr and helped put that show on the map. They divorced in the middle of the show, but he went on to his own career after that, including this movie. Tom Arnold is his name.
One of my all-time favorite movies! A perfect balance of action, humor, & romance. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold, & Bill Paxton were all fantastic!
In My humble opinion is Arnold's best film ever, best casting he's had before or after this film, the comedy is placed almost flawlessly, everyone had their time to shine, not just Arnie, this was so great a film they are making a TV series based on the characters of this film
Saw this movie with my husband the day I had the mid-pregnancy ultrasound with my oldest child. I sat there remembering all the images we'd seen earlier and grinning like an idiot. It was already a great movie, but the memories attached to it make it even better!
They were using an old video camera recording to tape. When the battery died on those you just changed it out with no footage lost. Just pick up where you left off.
"I married Rambo" - there's a scene in Twins where Arnold laughs at a poster of Rambo. In Die Hard there is a reference to both Rambo and Arnold. In Tango & Cash, Stallone makes a crack about a Schwarzenegger movie. In Demolition Man Stallone is incredulous at the news that Schwarzenegger was President. The three of them were always trolling each other in their movies.
I knew that you would like this. So glad you watched it. Great 90's Action/Comedy for sure!! It was nice to see Arnold with a bit more dialogue in a film. He was just as funny as Tom Arnold and Jamie Lee Curtis. I'm 37 and these are the movies that we grew up on. A roll em if you got em flick. Lol. 👍
When Jamie Lee Curtis is told her contact’s name will be Boris and she guesses her code name will be Natasha, it’s a reference to the old cartoon Rocky & Bullwinkle which had spy characters named Boris & Natasha.
I didn't hear you comment on the appearance by the legendary Charleton Heston. Sally Jessy Raphael's TV talk show ran for over 4,000 episodes and 18 years before she switched to talk radio. Her TV show was syndicated by the same company as The Jerry Springer Show and Maury Povich. I'm so glad you recognized Dana is Faith the Vampire Slayer! I mean Eliza Dushku. I remember reading that Jamie Lee Curtis stayed in character when actually falling from the bedpost while pole dancing, so they kept her blooper in the film.
Another fun mostly forgotten early 90’s action flick is “The Last Boyscout,” with Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans. Lots of quotable lines and some early Halle Barry.
33:32 Thor, most consumer camcorders in 1994 recorded onto video tapes, not memory cards. The most likely reason a digital video file would be unplayable in a situation like this is that it's an MP4 file and the MOOV atom, the bit of metadata needed for a player to understand the stream, is only written at the end when properly closing the file. But with a video tape, everything a player needs is physically right there where the video and audio are recorded. So no footage would be lost from before power-off. It'd still be a bit annoying, though, to have such a rough interruption in the presentation, considering they probably wouldn't have anything to edit video with, video editing capabilities not being ubiquitous in those days.
This is so good film. I am glad this is getting noticed by reactors. Such good film and I so agree. Bill Paxton nailed his role. I don´t know why this film got lost from people. I was 12ish when this film released and I remember it being quite popular and then it dissapeared.
The Tango is such a romantic/sensual dance, so of course James Bond 007 has done something like this. I know Sean Connery, from "Never Say Never Again" performed the dance to talk to someone. Bond is the ultimate ladies man lol Another fun movie with Arnold is Kindergarten Cop.
no, you are right with your first impression, it is a great movie. IT only gets better with time! This movie is hugely overlooked, sometimes I think simply because it is overshadowed by Arnies and Cameron's franchises. I lament we never got a sequel, even though there are on again, off again talks
About the camera dying... He didn't need to 'save the footage'. It was most likely TAPED. The battery just died, so they had to stop, change the battery, then continue TAPING. Digital cameras weren't out yet.
I've had Sodium Pentathol before used as an anesthetic. And I can understand how it is a truth serum. It doesn't force you to tell the truth .. It works by anesthetizing you so much that you could simply not have the mental capacity to lie or care about consequences. Thinking about consequences or repercussions would be WAAAAY to complex of a thought process under Sodium Pentathol. Not to mention you feel so amazing good, you would carless about anything.
Sally Jesse Raphael was a sensationalist daytime talk show. The video recording would have been fine with the low battery, because it was recording to analog magnetic tape. There. Now I feel relevant again.
Enjoyed your reaction, nice summing up. This may have some major comedy moments (take a bow Bill Paxton) but is still one of the best shot action movies with some very good special effects.
Really happy you enjoyed this! I enjoyed your enjoying it. I agree with your assessment of Schwarzenegger's Harry. One thing Arnold doesn't do is take himself too seriously. I recall when he was doing his first real starring role film, "Conan the Barbarian". I saw this in the theaters and didn't hold out much belief he would be any good, but then there's Conan passing out face-down in his gruel, and he immediately won me over. Another action-comedy would be "Kingsman: The Secret Service" (2014). Recommended!
I have watched this movie and watched reactions to it so many times I have picked up some interesting facts. When Arnold is mad and smashes the car window, he was supposed to puch the front passenger window which was made of easy to shatter sugar glass. He hit the real window behind it! Realistic! When Jamie fell during the strip tease, not scripted but she and Arnold stayed enough in character that the cameras kept rolling. The scene on the bridge is really Jamie not a stunt double being pulled from the limo. There is a shot of James Cameron alongside of Arnold to help insure Jamie's safety. The destruction of the bridge was part of its planned demolition after the new bridge was completed next to it.
This movie is a ton of fun. Great reaction too. I think you might get a kick out of The Last Action Hero with Arnold in it. It's also been one of my go to movies on a bad day and for Cameron, the director's cut of The Abyss is very good imo, I hope you like it. 🐾🐾🍻
Because you meant the scene with the Uzi, "No way..." My little brother served with the German Panzergrenadiers. And when the house-to-house combat practiced, they didn't use hand grenades to clear a room, but instead used an unlocked Uzi and threw it through the window. Because the Uzi starts extremely easily, it fires its entire 32 shots in the magazine within 2 seconds. And due to the enormous ricochets produced with it, the room is in tatters afterwards. But the advantage over a hand grenade is that the building is still safe to enter, while the explosion of a hand grenade could have so structurally damaged the house that if it were occupied by friendly troops, it could easily collapse. That's why this scene, absolutely realistic...
Forgot to mention in my earlier comment. Arnies boss in this movie is played by Charlton Heston, a HUGE Hollywood movie star back in the day. Check him out.... 🎬
so a point of clarification on the submachine gun down the stairs business: while the actual scene is a little farcical and over the top (in a way that works for the film), it is actually based on a very real design flaw of the ingram mac-10. the weapon has a very high cyclic rate and it fires from an open bolt, which means the bolt is pulled to the rear and when the trigger is depressed, it goes forward and the firing in hits the round. what CAN happen is that the weapon gets hit in some way that causes the bolt to slide forward independent of the trigger, and since it is full auto or nothing, the weapon will continue to fire until the magazine is empty. what appears to happen onscreen is that Helen fires the weapon, the recoil causes her to lose control of the weapon, and then subsequent impacts on the stairs cause the bolt to go forward and fire bursts until it is empty.
Fun Fact: when Tom Arnold’s character talks about divorce and he says “ she took the ice cube trays out of the freezer!” It was true, when Tom divorced his wife she actually did that!😂😂
Jamie Lee Curtis did her own helicopter stunt, after being encouraged by Arnold. It was filmed on her birthday and she said she wanted to do it because she wanted to be able to look back and say “I fucking did that”, which is amusingly her character’s exact motivation.

Too true. She was brilliant in "The Alphabet Killer" and "Bring it On". Unfortunately her performance would be the only reason to watch either of them more than once.
jay and silent bob strike back
I wouldn't say this was her biggest role, since she was only in the film for a few minutes. She was the lead in other movies, like the horror flick Wrong Turn.
I thought Dollhouse was well done. It didn't last very long though.
I’m assuming Arnold isn’t involved in the series and Cameron is still living in his mansion on Pandora, but it’s cool a movie made so long ago can still get a spin-off
@@nickreacts6394 Cameron is devolper and exectutive producer of the tv series.
It is pity, as it's sequel could have been called *False Truth* with the same title sequence.
However, it didn't stop Hollywood to make *Collateral Damage* a year after 9/11.
This is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE movies!
Also HUGE props for cutting in the fall @29:42 so many reactions cut that glorious piece of cinema out!
Sally Jesse Raphael was an 1980's hour long daytime tv show and she was a therapist who dealt with people's issues in that timeframe.
It’s amazing how people who are permanent staples on TV go one day and no one remembers them. The red glasses! 🤓
There was a comedian with a lady puppet who was always on TV in the early 80s and I always wondered where he went. I believe he passed of aids. 😢
@@i.m.7710 Wayland Flowers and Madame.
"The boss is never satisfied." Dude, that's Charlton Heston. The movie would be over by now if he was doing it XD
22:22 Thank you! That sad, character-defining noise has always been one of my favorite gags in the movie, and I haven’t seen anyone else tag it. 😂
One of my all-time favorite movies! A perfect balance of action, humor, & romance. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold, & Bill Paxton were all fantastic!
Notice, "I married Rambo" (Stallone) not "I married the Terminator"
I would like to see you react to Kindergarten Cop with Arnold; it is adorable in my opinion.
This is also my favorite comedy/action movie. It nails it on both counts. Good eye spotting Buffy's Faith in an earlier role.
Well, yeah. Flying a jet is just like riding a bike. It's just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the wheels.
James Cameron going full-tilt fun is… rather fun.
Right??
I didn't hear you comment on the appearance by the legendary Charleton Heston.
Sally Jessy Raphael's TV talk show ran for over 4,000 episodes and 18 years before she switched to talk radio. Her TV show was syndicated by the same company as The Jerry Springer Show and Maury Povich.
I'm so glad you recognized Dana is Faith the Vampire Slayer! I mean Eliza Dushku.
I remember reading that Jamie Lee Curtis stayed in character when actually falling from the bedpost while pole dancing, so they kept her blooper in the film.
It is a remake of a French film "la totale". A film that is faaaar from as good as True lies.
Try the 'Rush Hour' films with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker
You definitely laughed your way through the whole movie. It's hilarious.
Always so funny.
I rewatch probably once a year.
The screenplay of this movie is based on the 1991 French film :”La Totale”
So much fun loved your reaction!
My favourite Arnie film. Well, this and "Commando" 🎬
I really enjoyed this movie when I saw it way back when it came out. Just the absurd nature of it tickled my funny bone and I still love it today.
Some of the rocket pad sites at Vandenberg Air Force base in Lompoc, CA had retina scans and weight checks back in the 90's.
no, you are right with your first impression, it is a great movie. IT only gets better with time! This movie is hugely overlooked, sometimes I think simply because it is overshadowed by Arnies and Cameron's franchises. I lament we never got a sequel, even though there are on again, off again talks
Sweet sweet funny movie!!!!! Thanks for reacting to it! 😂😂😂
About the camera dying... He didn't need to 'save the footage'. It was most likely TAPED. The battery just died, so they had to stop, change the battery, then continue TAPING. Digital cameras weren't out yet.
One of my all-time favorites, this film is a Masterclass for screenwriters and filmmakers. Excellent reaction, Thor. :)
The movie is based on the French comedy La Totale from 1991 which has basically the same premise (minus the obvious bombastic action).
Sally Jesse Raphael was a sensationalist daytime talk show. The video recording would have been fine with the low battery, because it was recording to analog magnetic tape. There. Now I feel relevant again.
Jamie and Arnold' s arms with wired together for the helicopter scene
The ultimate Married Couple movie, yeah this is up there.
So is Mr & Mrs Smith (Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt)
The bridge they blow up was a real bridge that was critically damaged by a hurricane decades ago.
This movie is a ton of fun. Great reaction too. I think you might get a kick out of The Last Action Hero with Arnold in it. It's also been one of my go to movies on a bad day and for Cameron, the director's cut of The Abyss is very good imo, I hope you like it. 🐾🐾🍻
i love how many one liners schwarzenegger got in this one
i cant believe it took you til the end to realize its eliza dushku... when i was a kid i had a huge crush on her because of this movie..
This is an amazing movie. I will always watch it given the change. I am also amused at how long it took you to recognize Eliza Dushku
1:45 this is a US remake based upon the french movie "La Totale!" (1991)
By the way, Jamie did her own stunt with the helicopter! 😳😎
YOU MAY WANT TO CHECK OUT ( ERASER ) WITH ( VANESSA WILLIAMS, JAMES CAAN ) GREAT ARNOLD ACTION WITH COMEDIC LINES TOO. 😊
@Thor Reacts At the Academy Awards (The Oscars) that year Arnold and Jamie entered stage doing the Helicopter hanging scene.
I still wish Cameron would have made part 2 and waited to make blue people movies
Cool fact: That bridge was an actual bridge being destroyed, it was slated for demolition.
Hey Arnold's daughter is Eliza Dushku (Faith)
Yay!!!!! One of my favorite movies. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve watched it…. In excess of 50, can’t wait to see how much you enjoy it.
Forgot to mention in my earlier comment. Arnies boss in this movie is played by Charlton Heston, a HUGE Hollywood movie star back in the day. Check him out.... 🎬
Last Action Hero. That's a great Arnold movie as far as I'm concerned. He basically makes fun of his own style of movies.
Your best reaction, many great insights into this masterpiece.
Wow, thank you so much! The movie was just so fun :)
Want to see Bill Paxton’s acting range? Watch “Near Dark”. It also has “Aliens” co-stars Lance Henriksen and Jenette Goldstein.
so a point of clarification on the submachine gun down the stairs business:
while the actual scene is a little farcical and over the top (in a way that works for the film), it is actually based on a very real design flaw of the ingram mac-10. the weapon has a very high cyclic rate and it fires from an open bolt, which means the bolt is pulled to the rear and when the trigger is depressed, it goes forward and the firing in hits the round. what CAN happen is that the weapon gets hit in some way that causes the bolt to slide forward independent of the trigger, and since it is full auto or nothing, the weapon will continue to fire until the magazine is empty. what appears to happen onscreen is that Helen fires the weapon, the recoil causes her to lose control of the weapon, and then subsequent impacts on the stairs cause the bolt to go forward and fire bursts until it is empty.
Fun Fact: when Tom Arnold’s character talks about divorce and he says “ she took the ice cube trays out of the freezer!” It was true, when Tom divorced his wife she actually did that!😂😂
