Dr Fung has changed my life and my family too!! My General Surgeon, Dr. Stephen Hopkins and my R N daughter in Sonora, Ca have used Dr Fung’s intermittent fasting for years & tell their patients about this. Steve has worked at the wound care center dealing with many diabetics and advised patients to follow Dr. Fung’s program. Dr Fung deserves many awards for what he has done in medicine for all people. I pray God will bless him & his family. He has improved my life and saved me from serious depression and stroke.

Type 2 Diabetes. In Italy, almost 4 million people suffer from it, with a progressively increasing trend. It
affects 21% of people over 75. The prevalence increases with age (it is 2% in people under 50 and almost 9% among those aged 50-69). It is more frequent among men than among women (5.1% vs 4.2%) and in the socio-economically disadvantaged population groups due to education or economic conditions. Less than one patient in three has had their glycated hemoglobin checked.
Italians affected by type 2 diabetes are about 6% of the population, that is, almost 4 million people. It is estimated, however, that to this number could be added about 1.5 million people affected by the disease not yet diagnosed.

I very much buy into most of the things you say and have had good weight loss results from fasting. The thing I don't understand is your claim about people not losing muscle tissue when fasting. People pretty much seem to lose muscle tissue whenever they eat hypocalorically, no matter what the method. Numerous studies have shown this, and the experience with the "biggest loser" showed exactly this: People lost a lot of muscle tissue starving although they were very obese. In the end, their metabolism had slowed down significantly. Can you give me a hint how you reconciliate your theory with these findings?

Simply said, no starch and no sugar as they require insulin to metabolize. Fast 18 hours per day and eat in a 6 hour window as the fasting period requires no insulin. For weight loss, advance to eating only dinner 3 days a week, so fast 22 hours a day and eat 2 hours. If you want more weight loss, fast 3 full days a week. Most important: Trust the process. God bless.

I have been doing 18/6 for over a year since I first encountered Dr Fung. My BMR is ~1800 kcal and my exercise is about 600kcal so that is 2400kcal I need to eat. I am a keto lacto-ovo-vegetarian.
Do you have any idea how much you have to eat in 6 hours when you get the majority of you calories from MUFAs?
I basically gorge for my first meal (I am sort of 1.5 MAD) and then have a smaller second meal in the last 2 hours.
I consciously pig out just to get my 2400 kcal.
I have been stable at a BMI of 17.8 for 8 months.
I should explain that I eat considerably more carbs than the average ketogenic diet would (2× more) but because of IF and metabolic flexibility I am in ketosis again about 4 hours after my eating period ends. I spend 12 hours/day burning ketones.
This higher carb budget allows me to eat an apple a day as well as berries and (not every day) bananas (all organic of course)

Should you brisk walk after a meal or before?
I have started eating mostly meat two meals mostly bacon eggs and red meat.
Finding my portions are not big. But I would be 20 and 4 hour window maybe 5..
So wondering if walking after food makes your body use up more energy rather than beforehand.

I have read that there is a bigger metabolism boost from exercise following a meal, than before the meal. It was in a metabolism diet book that promoted walking or some other exercise for a short time (10-15 minutes) after 2 or 3 meals in the day, rather than exercising for longer, only once a day, in order to get a higher metabolic benefit.

      @homomorphic 3 месяца назад +1

@@DebbieTDP of course, but you're changing the *type* of food to include a massive quantity of carbohydrates and also fructose (in the sauce). Intermittent fasting has as a pre requisite, that one is not consuming poison. That should go without saying.
In the absence of consuming poison, you can eat as much food (food not poison) during the eating window as you feel like, because your leptin will be working fine (since you haven't consumed posion to disable it) and you will feel full precisely when you have consumed the bodies caloric deficit.
The entire point is that once you stop poisoning yourself, the body regulates consumption consistent with caloric demand and you will not need to count calories. This is the state I am in and I just eat until I am full and I never put on a single pound. When not poisoned the body regulates calories, no counting needed.
