The fact that Demelza is just chilling in bed in the last scene is so powerful. Like she's telling him she doesn't need to stand up to be the bigger person
And that's she's right in the middle of the bed screams "you're not welcome here tonight"
This scene and the post-cheating confrontation in s1 of Broadchurch are the rawest, most real moments of women having been wronged and standing up for themselves, and being the bigger person while also driving home how *they* did nothing wrong, and how they're disappointed way more than they'll ever be ashamed.
@MARYWTHER, So hitting someone in the face because they cheated on you is standing up for yourself?🤔 Some people call that domestic abuse.
This is yet another example of the media portraying female on male abuse as funny. The result of this is that when men get beaten up by women in real life no one takes it seriously.
She will be perfect Merida from Brave if they ever made it into live action.
I THOUGHT THE SAME THING WHEN I FIRST STARTED WATCHING POLDARK
You're right, I thougt exactly the same thing!
I've been thinking the same thing
Omg yes
is she her twin 🤔?
The punch was brilliant, but the look on her face! The withering glare, the loathing! That was even worse than the punch! Eleanor played this so brilliantly. The words she spoke to him too, about how her pride in him has been destroyed, and she was right. Ross knew it. I'm glad they were able to find their way together again after this, it would have destroyed many a marriage.
Ross sure deserved what he got when Hugh came around! 😮
What I loved was how, while sprawled on the ground, he raises his head a little, like he's going to get up, then he sees Demelza glaring at him and docilely puts his head down. Stay down, Ross, if you know what's good for you! LOL
What on earth is wrong with you people? You think domestic violence is ok if the victim is male?
@@jessicascott8958 Oh for gosh sakes! Ross cheated on her! And then he tries to justify it! He deserved that punch and worse. It's not like he did nothing to deserve it. If it's any consolation though, this punch only took place on the series. There are 12 books of the Poldark series and in the book when this happens Demelza doesn't punch him. You know what she does? Knocks a few dishes off the breakfast table. Big deal!
@@jessicascott8958Cry.Me.A.River.
Ross comes crawling home at dawn and whines that “he couldn’t help it”. It was either the smack or a good paddling with the wooden spoon he deserved.
"You must see i had no choice" that line made me want to punch him too 😂
You always have a choice, Ross. You need to count to 10 before you act and if that doesn't work, count to 100.
I was slack jawed when he said that. It was just so absurd!
Right???
Domestic violence against men isn't so funny in real life. So why do people justify it here?
@@Pete-uv4bu Probably because they smack their boyfriends and husbands around and want to feel good about it.
I have only recently discovered Poldark. I am so totally smitten with it and utterly bereft, sad beyond explanation at having reached the end. The portrayals are so real, so tangible. I lost my beloved husband suddenly at age 46 ( he bled out on the operating table after being given a 5% chance that it would go wrong). I had four children still to out through school and university. I was devastated and mourned all this time, I could not recover or mourn properly. This series, particularly the love between Ross and Demelza, and the music of Anne Dudley, unlocked years of sorrow. I could weep and weep and accept my loss. I miss them now.
God bless you!
So sorry….🥺
💜
I’m so glad you were able to express
Me in every romance movie: *SLAP HIM!*
😂🤣
🤣
So you think female on male violence is funny? Men are human beings, to you know
So, to you, domestic violence is romantic? That's a red flag if ever there was one.
I remember when I first saw this, I was all, "Hit him! Please! Do it for all of us!" And then when she did, I was shouting, "GET IT, GIRL!!"
I remember when I first saw this I thought it was Elizabeth who slapped him when he raped her. But the bbc chose to downplay the rape scene.
@@alffuergregor yeah that scene was erm, well i was quite shocked when it happened. The thing is, at first it was very forceful but it seemed like it wasn't so much after, but yeh.
I literally stood up and clapped when she did, my husband could hear me cheer her on from downstairs haha
I felt the same!!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Literally I swear😭😭😂😂😂
Those words never left his thoughts...that scene where she gives the monologue on how she used to see him, but now she lost not just reverence, but basic respect. That scene was BRILLIANTLY EXECUTED by Eleanor. Even the cold stare which with she delivered those lines.
100% agree!
After seeing Ross's face and the way he delivered those words...PLEASE GET OUT OF MY WAY!!!, Ross deserved that slam. I love the surprised look on his face after the slap.😳
I love when Captain Henshawe laughs at him when Ross tells him where he got the bruise.
That speech 👌 this is why I love her as a character, so strong, we need more characters like her. That line when she leaves as well 'I am fierce and proud and steadfast and true and ill not settle for second best' 💪
Well, I hope you'll also meet a strong man that'll hit you in the face. :D
I wish she HAD left him…
She's not strong, she's weak. Anyone who does that to other people isn't someone to look up to, but someone to be held in contempt.
'Tain't right, 'tain't fair. Is good for ye to give'im a smack.
'Tain't fit, 'tain't proper
@@MichielBLKortethis line never fails to make me laugh 😂😂😂😂😂
Demelza is such a great character, a strong woman and Eleanor plays her so well..I just fell in love with her. She's also a character who has this "love of life" who keeps her alive during the sad moments like Julia's death. My believe it's that Demelza did the right thing here...Ross was an idiot and he deserved that big slap. But, after that "small mistake" I was happy to see them happy again, because Poldark means nothing without Romelza. Am I not right? Now I am sad because the series it's over, but I hope not forever!!! 😭😭❤❤❤❤
I’m almost finished the first season. I so badly want to know what you mean by small mistake but don’t want the story to be spoiled 😂
@@Leanneishere You'll discover what I wanted to say on season 2 :)) Enjoy every episode of the series! It's a brilliant story! 🐎😉
Hoping for Season 6, the ending of Season 5 left a big gap.
Strong....until THIS point. She stayed and then f*cked another dude so exactly how strong is that?
@@irmaabenes4023 Like the one between Elizab....ah, it's too easy.
That speech will always be iconic. The most memorable moment for me in the entire series.
I already miss this show, will never forget it!
Brilliant show and characters..but Demelza/Eleanor is the reason the show stole my heart. Love her!!
@CineSiempre Eleanor deserves more big screen apperance. She has that sad smiles, beautiful yet with a faint scent of sorrow. She deserves many more main lead apperances.
@@minus21334 I do agree. I love Eleanor and while I like Aidan too, I really think she forces him to raise his level of play. She's brilliant!
Love how she's sat smack in the middle of the bed like "you ain't coming in here Ross".... Not sure I'd have the resolve to keep him out for long though.... 😂
I enjoyed this series very much. Aiden gives such a excellent portrayal of an intense character. Loved it
I would say, more than the slap is the look of absolute rage in Demelza's eyes. I know if my wife ever glared at me like that I would know was terribly wrong. Sometimes words or even a glare of anger can hit harder than a slap or a punch ever could.
And he never said sorry¡¡¡ Well done Demelza¡¡¡¡He deserves a slap and more¡¡¡
He apologizes in the book.
He flew through the air with the greatest of ease, but not with a flying trapeze but by the fist of his beloved.
Your comment, Marie, made me laugh out loud.
Oh please continue the show it was so wonderful!!! Please come back!!
This was such a great watch! The cast were incredible, the clothes, the small details littered throughout made this show so pleasing!
One of the best pairings of actors that I can remember
The two of them made acting look so natural and effortless - you almost forgot how much hard work they will have put into their roles
This was also my most favorite scene of all. As an audience, this was exactly what a wife like me would most likely wanted to do with Ross if he was her husband. It's so amazing how the writer add it in there where every women who's watching this can relate. Excellent!
So every woman who watches likes to slap her husband around? That's quite the black mark on the female fans of this show.
I'm on a deserted island with only ONE DVD set. It's going to be "Poldark".
They are brilliant actors and work so well together.
one of my favourite scenes was when she's on the bed! she sure got her thoughts out and told him! So powerful and so gutting for him. And he deserved it at that moment! I've just discovered this series and love it. My family ancestors are from the area this is taking place so I am very connected to it! Spectacular acting! Love it.
I’ve watched this scene before, but viewing it out of context of the entire episode, my heart still sank as she said, “...my pride in you.” I flinched as she gave that back-handed wallop. This series made me feel all the feels.
The way Demelza handled that situation from start to finish was amazing. when I first saw that slap I was like You Go Girl!
Great scene!!!...And Eleanor is an amazing actress....sometimes, she is better in Poldark than him ....and " is not my pride wonded, is my pride on you"...show us, Ross is a very idiot man...so good with the others, but no with his wife.
Poldark is masterpiece, 🤔😊 absolutely my favorite show
2023, watching all the series, with covid now, we went "Yes!!!" too!
YOU GO, GIRL! DO IT AGAIN!!!!
Memorable, grande, la mejor y más merecida bofetada de la historia del cine y la televisión
Loved the slap. Loved the words she says to Ross too! Demelza is such a badass. 👏👏👏😻
I NEVER thought anyone could be as good as Angharad ….but Eleanor pulled it off !
The slap heard around the planet! Perfection.
So if the genders were reversed and he hit her, would that be OK with you? Or is it only abuse when a woman is the victim? This is a massive double standard.
To make it more realistic, she should shit on his bed and pretend that he hit her, like Amber Heard did.
A great cinematic love scene was from Casa Blanca, where the beautiful Ingrid Bergman is looking (full face at Bogart camerashot) with tears in her eyes. Oh but, equally as sensuous is the very FINAL KISSING scene shown at the bluff where Ross and Demelza kiss.
If that scene were ever to be on a poster, etc. This old man would purchase it.
Heartfelt appreciation to ALL involved with current Poldark....a real MASTERPIECE. BRAVO!!!
This swipe...and the scene where he comes home with the coins...and she slowly give it back to him saying, "This is worth nothing, because you abused my love and my trust."
This is my absolute FAVORITE scene in all the movies and TV shows I've ever seen! I almost came thru that TV screen when he says "You must see I had no choice"... Of all the things he COULD have said or SHOULD have said, he comes up with that? Unbelievable!
He is no match for Demelza!
She ALWAYS gives 'it' right back to him.
She my hero! 0:11
So you like watching men get beaten up? What kind of monster are you? Maria is right this is domestic violence.
Bring back the series!
Eleanor ,great action, great speech ,my fav scene of the season ,Demelza ,you are my hero ...Ross ,you lose your head for a woman like Elizabeth and you don't see that you have Demelza who is worth 100!
Elizabeth is totally selfish!!! Also, she is actually worthless!!
She goes after any man who can provide her with the lifestyle she is accustomed to.
Lmaooo Ross was airborne for a few seconds. 😂 I watched this on repeat.
Please have a camera ready if someone smacks you in the face really hard. I also want to watch it on repeat over and over and over agein... Do we have a deal? :-)
That speech is cutting, i forgot how good this show is
She punk slap the hell out of him with that back hand.
ahhh memories. it was the time my boss found out I was watching a show at work coz when Demelza smacked him in the face I yelled 'HELL YEAH!!!'.
This stuff was absolutely unthinkable to me. I couldn't ever really appreciate his character after this choice. Many people have a first love and marry another later in life. That does not ever give you the right or reasoning to go and cheat just to get it out of the way. You have committed to a new person and left that other person behind in your past. This just led to alot of disgraceful behavior on her part with her choosing to be no better than Ross.
Agreed. I think his attitude is unfortunately common for the time though.
Spousal abuse is not the answer either.
Bring the show back !!!!
I adored Demelza! So fierce.
Amazing show and cast of characters!!! So sad it's over!!
Really connected to demelza's speech and what the cast and crew here are saying about it!
My favorite scene in this show
These scenes are also my favorites. Love Demelza and Ross.
DİZİYİ KEŞFETMEKTE EPEP GEÇ KALMIŞ OLSAM DA BU TÜR DÖNEM DİZİLERİNİ İZLEMEYİ SEVİYORUM.👌🏻ÖZELLİKLE KOSTÜMLER VE ORTAM ÇOK BAŞARILI 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I was so proud of Demelza when she slapped him😂
I think the chickens were scared, too! Did you see them scoot away from her?
Elizabeth Jordan 😂😂
Ross really forgot that Demelza was her Luggan father’s daughter. I bet he surely felt her father’s fist in that slap-punch🙃
Amazing acting.. Amazing writing. ❤️
She’s is an incredible actress.
Please bring Poldark back!
Slap!!!???? how about a slug! she of course doesn't really slug him (in rehearsals they spoke about how she nearly did hit him) - great scene
I have just watched that scene last night for the 5th time.. the cheeky of Ross😆
Given the foreshadowing. (Dem: I could crown you!) This scene should be called the crowning.
Your comment made me laugh right out loud! Excellent! Thanks.
My favorite scene in Poldark Ross deserved it thank you so much for sharing it.❤❤❤❤
Such a good series
She is a treasure, why chose Elizabeth when Demelza is available.. she’s so beautiful and so sweet and kind..
Exactly!!! Elizabeth can't hold a candle to Demelza.
What happened to that nice guy in season 1? And, I thought Demelza was the "love of his life", the "star" he found in a dog fight!???? I never understood that first love stuff, especially with Elizabeth who has the personality of a dishrag.
@@omagosh5137 Yes, Heida Reed is gorgeous and seems so nice but God is Elizabeth a boring character...I don't understand why Ross, George and Francis are all so obsessed with her. She's a Mary Sue lol.
😂😂 The crazy mental fans of Ross on FB are so judgemental and critical of Demelza over this. Who cares about the novels? Not me at that point I wasn't reading I cared about the show and the actors that i was watching. This is an AMAZING scene 😍
The reason domestic violence against men is not taken seriously is because people often think men deserve it. So when it happens in real life a man often has no where to turn and can't get help. So glad Maria made a video response to this. She is one of the best advocates for men's mental health.
....ooooooooooo and she sells it with those looks too❗ AWESOME 👌👍👍👌
I miss this show!
i love this series , amazing story
I remember screaming and jumping YES!!!!! when she slapped him.
Love ❤️ this couple.
BEST MOMENT IN SERIES.
One of the best scenes ever!! I must say Ross deserved it!
Why she slapped him?
@@godsmenu3017 Because she knew that he had just cheated on her with his ex ( now married to his arch enemy) and not just talked with her. In the novels he actually rapes his ex, but they ( the adapters) chose to make it rough but passionate and consensual essentially “ goodbye” sex and Demelza knows and is hurt, disappointed, betrayed and very Angry, hence the smack.
@@jane1975 I personally view "that" scene as rape, she said no, but he continued !!, that's the DEFINITION of rape !!! .
essa cena foi tudo pra mim e vendo agora a felicidade do povo ao filmá-la eu acabo gostando ainda mais! e depois ela lá sentadinha na cama falando tudo aquilo pra ele foi melhor ainda!
They’ve given us two Downton movies and yet they still can’t give us one Poldark movie. Come on man!
Yeah, what is up with the continued Downton obsession? I stopped watching that crap the second the first boy-husband died.
Something about that series really grates on my nerves, whereas this one I cannot seem to stop watching
@@cya2139 T'int right, T'int fit, T'int fair, T'int proper!
(Yesssss! god bless you)
When i first watched the scene
I’ve watched this scene over & over just wishing I had treated my (now) ex husband this way when I found out he cheated. But, was fighting cancer at the time & could barely knock over a feather. But I just love this so much.
For me, "The punch" was the highlight of thed series for me. Ross more than deserved it. After Demelza punched him, the glaring look she gave him was almost as good as the hit.
Eleanor for Doctor Who companion from past history timeline (TBA as Sophia) on a special centenary finale with the Thirteenth Doctor and then the Fourteenth Doctor.
Outstanding !
Demelza was such an incredible, complex character. She seduced Ross, although always the submissive wife, she was the real driver in this relationship and she completely owned it. She married above her class and one could be forgiven for thinking she would let everything slide just to keep her new status but no, god no! She expected Ross to be faithful to her. And the sheer look of surprise and terror in ross's eyes after she struck him says it all.
She is an incredibly secure woman who takes no mans s***! Without her, Ross is absolutely nothing.
You nailed it! 0:11
You could see the slap coming right before that small moment of silence and then
WHAM. What could Ross say? Wish Demelza would have slapped others in the
story like maybe Tess, George, oh..and of course Tom Harry. And the guy who was
a Bristish soldier who knew Ross and started hitting on her.(creepy dude) and
of course everyone's favorite creeper Monk Adderly. Really. She should have
walloped all of these characters and probably more.
Dennis: I so agree. Capt. McNeil, was he creepy or what? Why is anyone talking to George at all? All those Trenwith people needed to be slapped....Charles, Frances, Elizabeth and her mother.... Ross's dad stayed away from the Trenwith people. Ross should have followed suit.
Série maravilhosa💓
This is serious power here
Demdmza is so beautiful
Demelza,espectacular.
Contemporary men, learn from it!
Nothing has changed! Demelza speaks for all of us!
Love Poldark ♥️♥️
Ughhhh I love Dmelza so much!!!!
Eu senti a dor e ódio dela nessa cena kkkkk amei top de mais
It was a back handed smack, not a punch, not a slap. more power in it than a slap. Good technique, I'll give it a 9 out of 10, If he'd stayed down for a 9 count I'd of given it a 10.
Hahaha my favorite scene. Love it 😀
Love it, Love it, Love it yes the Slap
Anyone know the background song?
This actress is so beautiful
I clapped for joy when Ross got served.
Well, how would it be if people clap for joy, if someone smacks you in the face? :-)
What if she cheated and he hit her? You would call that spousal abuse wouldn't you? So why is it not spousal abuse when it happens to men?
And then Demelza turns around and does the same thing to Ross with some dude she barely knows. I know, I know.. “Turnabout’s fair play” and “Ross deserved to get his own back” and all that. Eh. Maybe. Still, my pride in HER and in this moment evaporated after Hugh.
How could a wife knowing her husband had a one nite stand with his first love then trying to work it out then discover he was seen kissing this other woman and basically lying about it . Myself I would probably think he still loves this other woman . I mean really Ross hurt Demelza repeatedly over the years praising Elizabeth not showing his own wife that praise and when another man comes along giving her the praise and attention that she has wanted from her husband it's not revenge it's feelings of low assteam and longing for affection she isn't getting from her husband
@@wandalechuga4 So Demelza gets a free roll on the beach because Ross was neglectful? Nah. Hugh knows she’s married with children, yet he goes after her anyway. He’s a scumbag but she falls for his pathetic simpering anyway. Demelza’s infidelity is not noble or justified in any way. It’s every bit as wrong as Ross’s was.
@@iwillstom I'm not condoning infidelity and I'm not talking about Hugh I'm just saying things can happen if you don't take care of your spouse especially emotionally
@@iwillstom It’s actually perfectly natural, she doesn’t fully trust him because he actually loved the woman he whored around with. Not to mention, she doesn’t want to be his sloppy seconds which now must always be in the back of her mind, that she is his consolation prize, an emotional & physical burden. So it makes perfect sense for her to be drawn to someone who truly sees her and actually just wants her for her, rather than an entitled prick of a husband with wandering eyes. 🙄
The moment he cheated, he lost her respect, trust and faith. This was an essential journey for her to go on, in order for her to not feel like another pathetic wife with no self esteem, who blindly forgives her adulterous husband. Ross saw her as a real equal and realized that he could really lose her, that she wasn’t beholden to him and that she wouldn’t just wait around to forgive him. That was important for him to comprehend because he genuinely believed otherwise.
@@taraz6786 That could have all happened without committing adultery herself. People speak of it as if it *had* to happen. It’s justified and almost celebrated as her right to revenge. “It was the only way she could grow and move on.” Sorry, not buying it.
How did he survived that?! The death stare! The killer slap!. Poor guy!
