Panchaganga Express is an Express train belonging to South Western Railway zone that runs between Bangalore City and Karwar in India via Shortest possible Padil Bypass route. It is currently being operated with 16595/16596 train numbers on a daily basis.
Train is named after Gangavali river near Kumta and Ankola of Uttara Kannada and Panchagangavalli river of udupi districts.
This train runs between KSR and Karwar as 16595/16596 Panchaganga Express. It is widely considered that train which changed the way people travel in coastal Karnataka. Bypassing Mangalore city is one of the major reason for trains tremendous success as it saves minimum 4 hours travel time of commuters.
Few Passengers were asking railway board to operated this train as a single train by connecting Madgaon with Bangalore. Also Bangalore people gets one more daily train to Madgaon.But Railway board outrightly rejected this demand and said this train is dedicated to people of Karnataka coastal and not beyond that. Also Karwar Madgaon special express is an important train to connect Karwar with Madgao hence no point of converting it as single train it said.
The 16595/KSR Bengaluru City-Karwar Panchaganga Express covers 673 km in 14h 35m. The 16596/Karwar-KSR Bengaluru Express/Panchaganga Express covers 674 km in 15h 15m.
As the entire route is fully not electrified , it is hauled by Diesel Loco Shed, Krishnarajapuram based WDP-4 / WDP-4B / WDP-4D on its entire journey.

Bangalore City Railway Station, officially Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Bengaluru Station, commonly known as KSR Bengaluru Station, Bengaluru City Railway Station or Majestic Railway station (station code: SBC), is the main railway station serving the city of Bangalore, Karnataka, India. It is the busiest railway station in South Western Railway zone of Indian Railways, and is the only station classified under NSG1 category in the zone.
It is located across the Kempegowda Bus Station. The station has 10 platforms and three entrances.
Platforms 1 to 7 connects to the Chennai and Salem railway lines. On platforms 8 to 10, service trains arrive via Yeshwantpur from Hubli-Dharwad. Platforms 1 to 4 terminate at Bangalore. On platforms 5 to 10, service trains depart towards Mysore. There are railway lines between Platforms 4 and 5 that are used as the railway yard. There are 5 railway lines passing from Bangalore City railway station - to Hyderabad via Guntakal, Chennai via Krishnarajapuram, Salem via Dharmapuri, Mysore, Hubli-Dharwad via Tumkur, Birur.
The important trains originating and passing from Bangalore city station are KSR Bengaluru Mail, Karnataka Express, Rani Chennamma Express, Island Express, Chennai Shatabdi Express, Rajdhani Express, Lal Bagh Express, Chennai-Mysuru Vande Bharat Express, Uday Express, Brindavan Express, Wodeyar Express, Humsafar Express, Duronto Express.
Karwar railway station is one of the main railway station in Uttara Kannada, Karnataka. Its code is KAWR. It is the headquarters of the Karwar Division of Konkan Railway (Pernem-Thokur). It serves Karwar city. The station consists of two platforms. Karwar has three nearby railway stations: Karwar, Asnoti and Harwada. A 1.69 km (1.05 mi) railway bridge on Kali River falls before Karwar Railway Station while travelling from the side of Goa. The town of Karwar is situated beside Kali River.
Karwar is connected by Konkan Railway which connects Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Ajmer, Jaipur, Mysuru, Rajkot, Ernakulam, Indore, Bhopal, Thiruvananthapuram, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Ratlam, Madurai,. Hubli-Ankola railway line is proposed to link Karwar Port and the northern Karnataka as well as Honnavar-Talaguppa railway line.
However, the Save Konkan Ecology Forum (SKEF) is strictly & violently opposing Hubli-Ankola railway line & Honnavar-Talaguppa railway line projects, citing concerns regarding destruction & disruption of ecology, environment, forest, animals, flora & fauna of Ankola Forest & Talguppa Forest regions. Karwar is just 60.84 km (37.80 mi) away from Madgaon in Goa.

Nice ...Since this train bypasses Mangaluru Jn, this is really useful for passengers of Udupi and beyond from Bengaluru. Even passengers of northern part of Mangaluru can use this train since the train reaches Surathkal and Mulki very early morning.
