One of those rare songs that creates a whole parallel universe and sucks you in, while simultaneously being cool as ice. Beautiful. If I created a list of songs that shaped my character, this would be on it.
As far as chill out music goes, this is a water shed moment in music. Whatever is written no matter how good, will always be measured against this song. 1997 is when it was written, never has a song personified a musical feeling like this. Every time I hear this I am blown away. All I need ain't half bad either......
You are so right Richie!! I do the same with this song and any performance of it! I say, can any other bands song top "La Femme d'Argent", if it's a song, and if it's a band playing live, can it top Air's performance of La Femme d"Argent..and the answer is of course usually hell no!!! I'm not saying I won't like (insert band name) but I just put them in a different class, one way below Air!! Air are tops at what they do!! And for this song to be from 1997 and continues to blow away any other band is amazing!!! Thanks for sharing your opinion Richie...cool to see we are on the same wavelength amigo!! Haha
This is actually throwback music. They've been making stuff like this since the 70s. Listen to Billy Cobham, Ahmad Jamal, Quincy Jones, Shuggie Otis. Two of my favourite parts: the piece beginning at 3:20, just when the bass kicks in again, and the piece beginning at 4:09 when the pace picks up again and there's the wordless communication between bass and drums in order to establish perfect synchrony between them, then Nicolas Godin pulls back to take centre stage again.
