James Vandyke exactly. I get 16.5 mpg in my 4Runner... but I just put 33’s on it. So I suspect it will get worse. But I have all the smiles right now. 👌🏼
i bought my 03 sequoia limited with 135,000 now going with her at 205,000 ..... the only thing so far that i have had to change was the the rack n pinion and front suspension parts but thats it ....great fucking truck
I have my 2003 4x4 SR5 that I bought new in 2002. Now 20 yrs and 255k miles later she's still running without a hiccup. Timing belt done twice and replaced steering rack. That's it! I want to get the 2023 Sequoia when it comes out later this year, but wife says what's wrong with our current one, and I don't have an answer :(
I neede a new trans in my 2011 camry. Only had 80k miles on it. Then a month later i needed a new alternator. The next year i needed to replace the front right wheel bearing. And now a month after that it seems like i need to replace the back one.
@@evangaylor8446 i think overall they are reliable but they do have a good number of bad apples out there. Just not as much as other companies. But as toyota caves in to people bitchen about how it needs more bells and whistles, along with putting small engines in big vehicles with a turbo, they are going to lose their reliability and be just as bad as the other car makers. Thsts why im getting the last gen tundra (v8) and skipping the twin turbo new gen tundra (v6)
@@evangaylor8446 well with only 90k miles I’d hope it has the original trans no matter what your doing in it. It’s not like the trans is handling massive power
I have a 2004 sequoia limited same engine all wheel drive and I get 17.0 mpg and she has 400,000 miles! I suggest cleaning out the throttle body and muffler system
We have a 2004 too and are also close to that. We're at 16.6mpg avg but are in the Southern California mountains and have some hilly terrain to navigate; however, it didn't really change much when we did a 10,000 mile road trip around the US back in 2017 while towing a 2700lb trailer. Still in the 16mpg+ range. Also had changed the front brakes to the ceramic "lifetime" brakes from AutoZone and they lasted the entire trip. In fact, I STILL haven't had to change the front brakes!!! They have about another 20-30% before I have to. i.e. the "lifetime" really means you bought 2 pairs initially as they'll give you one more replacement set for that price you paid the first time. They've been awesome though. We're at 240k miles and the only other things I've changed so far are the fuel injector gaskets, on the left side and one of the oxygen sensors underneath. Right now troubleshoot ac wont turn off. Checking the fuse and relay. The only real pain was the back hatch handle. KEEP THE LATCH lubed and clean and you'll save that headache. Pretty darn good SUV! Oh, and ours is 4WD.
I love my 2010 Platinum. A safe, reliable, strong and roomy tank ! We don’t care about gas. Safety and reliability comes first when you have the whole family in it. Thank you for your video !!
I am looking at a 2010 platinum rn with 192k miles on it, for around $18k, you think its a good purchase considering nothing big comes out in an inspection?
My mom has an 05 sequoia limited. This thing has 270k on it and it’s nearly flawless. This damn thing runs just as good as the day she bought it. Hands down one of the most reliable vehicles I’ve ever seen. Strangely though, hers is 4x4 and averages 17mpg, she lives in rural KY.
Love your videos - thanks for everything you do! I have a 2005 Limited 4WD w 160,000 miles that’s lives on the West coast in the rain (not the salt covered snowy roads). It has been bullet proof so far. Have towed a 19 foot Jayco all over the mountains and more recently a 26 ft Ultralight from Canada to the Florida Keys. I have always exceeded the recommended maintenance and it’s never complained or let me down once. It passes everything except gas stations. This also means my dogs have never peed in it lol. I was looking at upgrading over the past few years but my wife does the same test in each vehicle- the third row test. So far she’s not been impressed by anything new. The Sequioia has the most spacious and comfortable third row, hands down. I have had adults back there for many long driving days in a row with no groaning. It squats under load, true. But with the right equalizer hitch and trailer sway control, it’s been a real champ through hail in the desert and through the Santa Ana’s in California. It will be a sad day when we have to say goodbye. Really.
@@francoalfaro7750 Not with the current drivetrain. It is just too thirsty relative to the new 2022 Tundra’s V6. I expect the 2023 will adopt the new V6 so maybe we have to wait.
You save on repairs that's for sure. We miss our 2005 Sequoia. By the Grace of God we survived a major car accident in May. It was eight of us in the vehicle, we went off the freeway upwards, due to a reckless driver who jumped out of the Hov lane.
Love your videos! I have an 03 Sequoia 4x4 and I get 14 MPG in the city and we took a road trip with 5 kids and got 18 MPG and went 75 most of the way. Not the best MPG but with a load and at 75-not bad. In AZ we’re paying about $2.50/gal. CA taxes and government are two of many thing killing CA. Keep up the good work on your videos!
Yeahhh i believe it... My 02 Sequoia 4WD got me a consistent 21 MPG driving through Argentina and Chile ... Going no faster than 60 MPH on 2wd those things can actually get low 20s ..
Four Certy per gallon! 🤓 🤣 Lmao! Welcome to California! Georgia here, & i got an 02 Sequoia & payed $2.85 just last week. Need some more Gavin Newsome & Nancy Pelosi voting along with Brandon & gas will be $10 per gallon. You could always go out & buy one of those $100,000 electric Tesla's! Thanks for all the Toyota videos. I replaced my 05 corolla (fully manual) with an 03 Highlander limited that runs like a top at 178k miles. I couldn't be happier. Going from 38mpg to 22mpg sucks but the increase in power and comfort are well worth it.
They are both fine cars but a lot has changed since they were made. The 2020 Highlander Hybrid is rated at 33/34 mpg. I drive a 2005 Vibe and I strongly suspect that new Highlander will beat it in city mpg.
Right Lane Hog I was getting 37mpg with my 05 corolla 5 speed. Considering the cost of owning a hybrid highlander it is still hard to beat. As you get older the comfort level starts to matter.
@@stevenmeddles4369 I agree. The Vibe is a very reliable, useful and economical car but I feel every bump in the road due to that cheap torsion beam rear suspension shared with your old Corolla. As we use Imperial gallons up here in Canada, I actually can get over 50 mpg at a sensible highway speed with my 5 speed Vibe. As regards the Highlander, we really can't compare the cost of new vs old. For those shopping in the new car market there are more no-compromise options today.
Love my Black 2003 Toyota Sequoia Limited! Just bought it a year ago with 28k original miles from original owner. The truck was in showroom condition. It still smelled new.
I am late to this party but wanted to mention that my 2001 Sequoia SR5, 4wd with 185k averages 15.9 mpg on my headliner display, never tested its accuracy... we live in South Lake Tahoe and it is, mostly, driven in town. Anyway thought I'd share.
After reading this comment I tested my '01 Sequoia... it does not have any feature like that, you let go of the key before it starts and it doesn't start, even if it has begun turning over, fyi.
Just to say... I bought my 2002 Toyota Sequoia Ltd, 4x4 sky gray for $10,000 cash from a dealer in Ga. 2013. I love!!!! Her. She had 132,000 miles, I now have 182,000 no leaks, no issues, runs perfect. Huge sunroof, has everything. A tank! Wouldn't trade her for nothing. Comfortable. Tons of room. Tons of power. Safety features everywhere. I was born in So. California. But I currently live in Missouri pay about $2.27 gal. Gas was higher when I 1st bought her. Doesn't burn oil. Fluids never low, between oil changes. I run A/T tires, she's a tough truck! Not a station wagon. You hardly ever see one used. They last forever! Price of gas, not an issue, ty
Make sure you check your ball joints and keep your timing up a hundred and eighty thousand miles is just about right for a new timing belt. If you don't you won't love your baby anymore.
Hello! I am a girl mechanic and I have a few suggestions ok! Put the key in the drivers door with the window rolled down reach inside and lock all doors.. now turn the key in the door to the unlock position and hold it there for 15 or more seconds.. now turn the key in the door to the lock position for 15 seconds or more. Now open the door and get in.. put your foot on the brake and hold it while you turn the ignition to the on position without starting the vehicle.. now there is a trip/odemeter reset button in the dash cluster.. make sure it is set to Trip and not complete vehicle mileage.. turn the key back off when it is set on Trip.. with the key off hold the trip reset button in the dash instrument cluster and turn the key into the on position but do not start the vehicle.. hold for 30 or more seconds (all this time you should have been holding the brake pedal down normally).. now turn the key back off and release the button in the instrument cluster.. note.. do not release the trip reset button until the key is in the off position. All security "engine immobilization" "anti-theft" and even engine maintenance warnings have now been reset. Take the key out of the ignotion. The anti theft light in the dash instrument cluster should blink slowly when the key is not in the ignition. Now insert the key back into the ignition and turn it to the on position without starting the vehicle.. wiggle the steering wheel to make sure it is not caught in a bind as this will prevent the key from performing as it should. With the key in the ignition wait 10 minutes and turn it off and leave the key in the ignition In the off position (this is a lightweight ecm/key program.. make sure all keys that will be used with the vehicle are in the area of the driver when all of this is performed.) After waiting 5 minutes with the key In the ignition and the position of the key being off. . Try to start your vehicle. If you get a no crank or no start there is one more thing you can do.. (never remove remove a battery cable with the key in the ignition) under the drivers side dash board, located in the vicinity of the steering column will be a white plug with 16 pin holes in the end of it.. you will need a paper clip or a short piece of wire to do a hard reset of the ecm/ecu/engine immobilization security feature. The white plug has a shape that only allows it to be plugged Into something one way.. it also has also feature on it that locks together with anything you plug into it.. looks like a small hump about a quarter of an inch long in the middle of one long side of the plug.. hold the plug with that hump facing down. . 8 pins across the top and 8 pins across the bottom. In the top row count over 4 pin holes and in the bottom row count over 5 pin holes.. these are the holes that you will place the paperclip or wire into while the Ignition is off. If looking a diagram it's pins 4/13.. now with the paper clip in the top row #4 pinhole and in the bottom row #5 pinhole.. turn the Ignition on for a few minutes (do not hold the paperclip and make sure it doesn't touch metal) after a few minutes turn the Ignition off and remove the paperclip. Ecm/ecu and engine immobilizer has now been Hard Reset. If the vehicle still does not start.. make sure your insurance policy Is up to date and roll, drag, push the vehicle into the river lol no I'm just kidding.. maybe ha! Seriously though geez.. OK a door lock actuator may be the problem. Check to make sure all doors lock. If not replace the actuator for that door. Start from the top of this list again and at the end of It if the vehicle still does not start.. try putting the gear shifter into neutral while holding the brakes and try to start the vehicle in neutral.. if it starts in neutral it means you have have a bad neutral switch located near the gear shifter or on/in the transmission. The last thing you want to do is disconnect the battery and let it sit over night.. but if you do that.. you will have to perform all of the above plus.. another set of tricks to reset the TPS (throttle position sensor.). I'm not even gonna go there.. OK OK I will geez lol reconnect battery. Sit in drivers seat. With the key out of the ignition press the gas pedal all the way down and release it. Now insert the key and turn it to the on position with out starting the vehicle. Now leave the key on and very.. very very slowly.. slower! Very slowly press the gas pedal all the way to the floor.. slowly I said dang.. lol :) hold it to the floor for just a few seconds and then slowly.. very.. very.. slowly release the gas pedal.. Slower!!! Slowly.. oh yeah.. that's it.. Mommy likes It like that lol once the gas pedal reaches the top remove your big Ole foot and no turn the ignition off. Wait 5 minutes. The throttle position sensor (TPS) had now been reprogrammed in the ECM/ECU. Try to start the vehicle. If it doesn't start don't ask me what to do.. I'm just a 24 year old girl lol hope it helps someone tho.. "p.s. My dad and uncles, brothers are all shade tree mechanics and that's just a little of what they have taught me about vehicles.. plus I'm not a prissy dumb city slicker girl yall.. Alabama Girls Are The Best!! Please like my comment and tell Toyota to hire me.
You can raise the fuel mileage on that truck by changing the entire truck over to Amsoil oil, this will increase the fuel mileage approximately 3 miles per gallon and we'll get you into the ballpark of about 17 possibly as high as 18 miles per gallon highway.
My '02 Sequoia just passed 300K last month. However, a thief cut out one of the cats. After replacing it, fuel economy increased to 18-20 MPG on the highway in Kansas.
I recommend to flush out the intake with sea-foam, use high-performance, full-synthetic oil, and replace the catalytic converters with higher performance ones. I purchased mine with the cats "punched"/drilled out by the previous owner(not recommended, may fail emissions test now, but it runs better), and cleaned the intake upon purchase. I average around 17mpg in my 2003 Sequoia, at around 385K miles
What was your mpg before doing this work? And how does the cat performance affect fuel economy? It's just there to burn any fuel that wasn't burnt in the engine, right?
The catalytic converters contain a metallic grid that collects particulate matter from the exhaust gas, making it “cleaner.” They don’t burn anything, there is no additional combustion beyond the engine. It’s just a type of filter for the exhaust, and in the process of filtering the he exhaust, it chokes down the volume of exhaust flow. Any restrictions on exhaust flow will reduce fuel economy. This can be minimized with “high flow cats” or simply eliminating them.
@@olegdegenshein889 That's not true in the slightest. Why would precious metals be required for filtering particulates? Catalysts speed up or kick start chemical reactions (I'm a chemical engineer). It may not be "burned" in the converter, but it is not just a filter. There's a "conversion" taking place from one chemical to another. It's called a chemical reaction, which in this case is exothermic, which is why it gets hotter downstream of the converter. Regarding the restriction on exhaust flow, this may be the case... it makes sense logically, but I'd be curious to see a before-and-after test with the converter removal or replacement.
2000 Tundra V8 w/179k miles. I use the 10% ethanol 87 gas for $2.10/gal and get 13 in town. Maybe 18 mpg when cruising on the highway at 80ish. Minimal insurance and registration cost. It’s needed a radiator, a fuel pump, one ignition coil, one O2 sensor, and a harmonic balancer (the latter just this month). Hard to complain about gas mileage, when any new truck might get 20-40% better mileage but at the expense of tens of thousands of $. I should probably change the original fuel filter and hoses!
Hello Petr, hope you are safe and well. I’m confused, you suggested we not buy the 4.7 with rubber timing belt, you had ‘No Good” in the title and it’s the interference engine. But you bought this nice Sequoia. It’s a great engine you always say and perhaps bulletproof. I have 2004 4.7, 4wd, 4 door. I got it about 4 months ago. I immediately had the timing belt and water pump kit installed. My mechanic says everything is good. I got front brakes and sensor, AC topped off, new air filter, oil changed, diff oil changed, all fluids. 150k maybe more lol. I’m getting new tires and she’s ready to roll. Thanks for you great videos, I learn a lot. But you got the same motor as me 😆thanks Petr.
I've started looking at these to compare with the Lexus GX460. I don't want to lose all the space in my minivan, but i want to come back to Toyota's reliability.
Check the fuel system my friend as : injectors, throttle body, catalytic converter, fuel pump, all these parts could filled or clogged with some carbons and dirts
We just got a 2008 Sequoia with the 5.7L (a full liter bigger than the one in the video) to tow with but it gets pretty close to the same highway MPG as my 09 Tacoma with a snug topper and light truck tires. That’s pretty darn good for a car that has 2 additional cylinders, 1.7 liters more displacement and can tow 3,000 pounds more than the Taco.

I am getting 17.5 with my Tundra with a 4.6L. Granted, its only one year old so its in excellent condition. But yeah, I can't imagine getting much worse than that.
My 2003 SR5 Sequoia has 170 K miles and never spent a day in the shop besides the warranty recall. She still runs as well as the first time I test drove her. I want to get a 4 runner but dont want to let go the Sequoia.
You may just need a good old fashioned tune up. Change the oil AND filter with every oil change. Use synthetic as Toyota recommends. Grease your zirk fittings in your driveline with every or every other oil change. Change your air filter. Change your plugs and wires. Check tire pressure. Rotate tires. Have it aligned. Have front and rear diff fluids changed, along with transfer case. All these “little things” add up and add more resistance for your engine to work against. Our 2uz-fe 4Runner with all time 4WD gets 18mpg combined. Just my 2 cents.
Does anybody else get a cool vibe from this guy? Lol I actually considered one of these but I’m happy with my 4Runner w/v6 at the moment 20.2 mi/gal. Thanks for this video.
What size tires are on your Sequoia? I just bought a set of Kankook P265/70R17 (original size is P265/65/R17) and noticed almost a 2 MPG drop in gas mileage, in my Tundra 4.7. 16MPG vs 18MPG.
My drive is probably similar to yours. I have an 04 so it's not vvt and I'm thinking the transmission is different, it lists 1mpg less average because of that. But my on board computer shows about 15.5mpg. but hand calculations show that is actually high. My paper calculations put me in the 14-15 range. I love our Sequoia too!
Gorgeous vehicle 😍 And it doesn't sound like a problem with the Sequoia, sounds like a problem with California. I filled up for $2.03 yesterday here in Southeast Texas.
Mine is running, as long as it is not hot outside. Everything is falling apart. The skylight, won’t close if you open it. I got tired of the back handle not opening and replacing it every three weeks. I just cut a hole in it and pulled the cable out. Now the cable is failing. One door won’t lock. Ac works sometimes. Whole bunch of other little stuff. 287,000 miles. Have replaced a few mechanical things as well. Because it tried to kill me as I pulled out in traffic and just died. I had enough power to roll back into the parking lot and someone saw and push me the rest of the way.
My 2002 Tacoma got ~13l/100km hwy, 15 city... manual, 4x4, driven a bit aggressively. That's a shame, but yeah, the big SUVs are just plain heavy. And the 4x4 drivetrain is also heavy and not the most efficient. 4.30/gal... actually, that's only a tiny bit cheaper than what we are paying here in Canada. Surprising. I also had to downsize. Went for old VW golf. Drive it like crazy and still get 8L/100km...
If I got 14MPG in my old sequoia I would have been elated! That's pretty good mileage for one of those. I usually only avereaged 12 at the most. What do you expect driving a big thing like that? I'm in Canada, and we pay almost $5/gal equivalent... Think of it this way. The thousands you saved by not having to do unscheduled maintenance, avoiding breakdowns, avoiding towing charges, and other headaches. It's what comes with driving a toyota. They're awesome, but pricey at the pump. Now go drive it another 200k Miles and quit complaining :)
I have had many issues with my 2005 Sequoia SR5. At 104K the timing belt self destructed and took the engine with it. The rear electric window never works. The rear lift door handle never works.....I had to rig up a cable to the latch so I can get in the back. The ABS stopped working. CD stopped working. I have 150K on the vehicle now and it is by far the biggest turd I ever owned. Just my experience.....glad to see others having better luck.

Great video again. I'm hoping to come across a used toyota truck to buy. My supervisor would still be alive if he was driving this truck, instead he was driving a compact to save on gas. Thanks for the input.
I have a 2004 Sequoia 4WD, my average is 15.7, was until recently 15.6 which suggests I am perhaps getting around 16. You must do a lot of stop/start driving for it to be so low.
My 2007 GX470 has the same engine and I get 18-19 mpg on the highway. Here in Iowa gas is $2.20 per gallon. So, fuel mileage is not really a big concern for me. I can’t believe gas is that expensive in California! I think I’d seriously considering moving.
I’m already used to the bad MPG anyways, I currently drive a ‘95 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 straight 6. I’m lucky If I get 13 mpg on the highway. A sequoia of this generation would be an improvement by leaps and bounds for sure, but with slightly better mileage lol. For the longest time I’ve been wanting a 4Runner, but lately I’ve been considering a 2005-2007 sequoia. Besides the less than ideal mpg, the only real bad thing I can think of is that the 4.7 v8 uses a timing belt and it’s an interference engine. But I’m quite mechanically inclined anyways so it shouldn’t be a big issue for me.
Awesome video. I just got a 2000 Toyota Tundra 4.7 4x4 20k miles.runs amazing . I work from home so I’m not do worry about tge gas but not Good gas miles
I love my 2003 Tundra SR5 4X4 Access Cab - but I agree mileage is horrible. I can't get 20 mpg on the highway. I pump up the tires, turn off the ac - drive at 65 - 19.5 tops, and that's on a 400 mile trip.
I totally agree with you on this. I'm happy to hear your 2005 is still strong. That means I can look forward to my 2013 lasting and lasting also. You scared me for a bit there.
YO MY 2011 Grand Cherokee 2 wheel drive, V6 gets 14.5mpg....your good. It’s much bigger, with a V8 getting midsize 6 cyl SUV gas mileage. However, others have told me with the same Jeep I have they get 16-17 mpg. It’s probably the tires I chose but still. That is really good for a full size SUV.
My Sequoia is for the weekends or out of town trips. My daily driver is a 1998 RAV4, I also have a custom 350Z that I use on the weekends and I alternate with the Sequoia, depending on the occasion. Thank God I'm blessed with a 2.0L Toyota RAV4 😂
My 2008 Land Cruiser 200 have 4.7L v8 from factory (Middle East Specs) I drive my car every day since I bought it new 12 years ago, now sets at 450K miles original engine/transmission. Yes very thrusty engine (I average 14mpg too) but very happy with my car it's so reliable I dont even think of buying a new car until maybe 2025 or maybe more.
I just crashed my 05 Sequoia with 205K miles on it. It was going strong till then. Towed like a champ and drove great. Solid, largely dependable vehicle overall. However there are a few things that irritated me... First, the problems are common and I found many of the issues I had present in other owners of the same model. For instance, the air pump under the intake manifold...plastic and failure is common. Its a pain to replace. The rear door latch...plastic and failure is common. Timing belt...while never breaking, just sucks and are a hassle or expensive to change ...they have now gone to chains. If it has the JBL premium audio with amp, its so specialized that simple replacement is not possible. The speakers are specialized 4 ohm are very custom. No getting normal speakers and replacing when the foam rots. i had to replace the foam to resurrect the speakers. Also, no easy going around the amplifier without replacing the speakers. Just unnecessary nonsense in something that should be easy. Finally, the "Christmas Tree" of dash lights around traction control is a recurring issue. Randomly you get, brake/abs/trac control/ and some others just light up. They may stay on or go off or not come on at all. Its a rather common problem...I think it required computer reprogramming or replacement at the dealer or something. Its hard to diagnose exactly what is causing it since it is intermittent and throws not code to read. I just lived with it....Just a pita. So after an AVALON which is just a hassle free jewel of a car, I was a little disappointed the Sequoia had so many "Known and common" problems. Overall it was a good truck that I enjoyed and if Toyota actually spent a few dollars to keep it up to date in technology, I would definitely look at getting another one.
@sethjackson2266 I ended up getting a 2013 sequoia platinum. Same basic vehicle from 2006 to 2020 (i think) or so when they had some major changes and updates. So far it's been great.
I only drive mine once a day to take the children and myself to taekowndo practice. It’s less than 2 miles away with a really crowded dirt parking lot. All of my other driving is done with an EV.

Biggest problem, waiting for it to break down so you can upgrade.

I want to get the 2023 Sequoia when it comes out later this year, but wife says what's wrong with our current one, and I don't have an answer :(
Reliability beats low mpg. Mini cooper needs a $6000 transmission around 50k miles.
I neede a new trans in my 2011 camry. Only had 80k miles on it. Then a month later i needed a new alternator. The next year i needed to replace the front right wheel bearing. And now a month after that it seems like i need to replace the back one.

THE PALMER FAMILY new plugs too
We have a 2004 too and are also close to that.
How do you clean out the "muffler system"?
I get 11.1 mpg at 208.000 miles. Runs great, but what’s up with that?

Really.
AWESOME!!!!!

I have a theory. Sluggish air/fuel sensor telling the computer to feed it fuel unnecessarily. How much was mpg before
I just got a 2006 4runner SR5 4WD and I love it. V6 4.0 engine. Has 174,807 miles.
The catalytic converters contain a metallic grid that collects particulate matter from the exhaust gas, making it “cleaner.”
They don’t burn anything, there is no additional combustion beyond the engine.

I just checked my 2005 4wd and it's 14. I never knew how that worked so I am no longer blissfully ignorant lol

@@edcain3676 I do have general at2 and use cheapest 87 gas in my area. Go to the mountains a few times a year. dont use my 4wd much since it's really easy trails.
I had a 96 T100 for many years and finally sold it with over 300k miles. I will be ready to buy another Toyota soon!
Those are collector's items now. Which engine did you have?
Could you please make a video on how to remove the seats? I've seen one and I can't do it.
I bought my 5.7 Tundra for towing my 4000 lb rv. Get 8 to 10 mpg with a 38 gallon tank. Wish it got better.
In thinking of putting a fold out step on mine so I can get in and out easier..
I would say 14 mpg is pretty good. My old f150 got about 9 in town and 18 on the highway. I usually got around 12 with mixed driving
During oil change's if you use an oil stabilizer shouldn't that give you better gas mileage? Also on an OPEN hwy if you use curse control that should better your gas mileage as well.
I hope my new 2019 Tundra TRD Sport double cab 5.7 is just as reliable. I also get about 15 mpg city barely touching throttle and 18.5 highway. I plan on keeping it and it may possibly be my last new truck as I will turn 54 in December. I drive it so far only on weekends to take boat to the lake bass fishing and an occasional trip 2 to 3 hours away. My miles will be only about 6k per year. And yes it is garaged. Also do not plan to drive it once roads are salted in winter which will be about 3 full months here in southern Connecticut.
It sounds like you are using it judiciously . Do you have Krown rustproofing in your state? As a Canadian, I highly recommend you use it to preserve your investment from salt damage.
Thank you for your positive spirit! I learn so much. Starbucks, Pumpkin Spice, toast to you & loved ones. Please post PayPal link so to help your Sequoia stay fueled. Thanks, Sensei.
Thank you ...I should do that soon
I have a 2004 toyota sequoia limited and the only problem i have had is my a/c would get cold sitting still anymore in 2020 just replaced the air condenser fan and that fixed the problem i have 298,000 miles and it is still running great love this suv
Why 4Runner when the Sequoia is bigger ?
You may just need a good old fashioned tune up. Change the oil AND filter with every oil change. Use synthetic as Toyota recommends. Grease your zirk fittings in your driveline with every or every other oil change. Change your air filter. Change your plugs and wires. Check tire pressure. Rotate tires. Have it aligned. Have front and rear diff fluids changed, along with transfer case. All these “little things” add up and add more resistance for your engine to work against. Our 2uz-fe 4Runner with all time 4WD gets 18mpg combined. Just my 2 cents.
You need a taller tripod my friend. Your back will thank me.
Does anybody else get a cool vibe from this guy? Lol
I actually considered one of these but I’m happy with my 4Runner w/v6 at the moment 20.2 mi/gal.
Thanks for this video.
Unless you need the larger third row or tow over 5,000 lbs the 4Runner seems like the right choice.
Try fuel system cleaning
And keep the tire pressure .
And fill up 89 or 91
And see if you notice any change.
I hear you bro, but that is a little low. I am avg 16.3 in my 2002 Sequoia for mostly city driving. I think there might be something wrong
I agree 100%, so what can we do to improve the 14mpg.. weird thing is I see to get the same mpg wether city or highway lol
Gorgeous vehicle 😍
And it doesn't sound like a problem with the Sequoia, sounds like a problem with California. I filled up for $2.03 yesterday here in Southeast Texas.
You still filling up for 2 bucks now that we have a potato as President? LoL
Whats it at now 5 bucks?
I love this guy haha. Currently shopping for a Sequoia myself. Can't wait to drive my Japanese tank.
I love my Sequoia and it also gets low gas mileage. The difference is, I live in Missouri and just filled up this morning for $2.19 per gallon.
$3/gal in WA.
1st gen Tundra...three 4Runners and now with a 2018 Tundra...i am used to low MPGs at this point.
That’s very nice to have all that room. Great vehicle 👍
cars getting old brother... prolly needs new plugs and coil packs intake filter fuel filter and some other items that r notoriously known to rob not so much power but definitely ruin your miles per gallon... just take it to ur favorite mechanic and have them tune it up rig is a great and reliable platform they should be able to fix her up good as new!! just gotta take car of those several little things that together are destroying your miles per !! hope that helps so would you recommend buying this rig?? im looking for something that is super comfy and also can dominate winter and offroading conditions... between this baby actually a 2005 sequoia and a lexus gx 470 but that is out of state and seemly wont happen because i need something super reliable and also accessible if there is ever an issue..
please lemme kno if u would recommend this rig to another im planning on building a solid overlanding rig will this be the best platform or should i stick to the gx470?? thanks soo much for your help and opinions!!

Thanks for sharing this information.
Great video again. I'm hoping to come across a used toyota truck to buy. My supervisor would still be alive if he was driving this truck, instead he was driving a compact to save on gas. Thanks for the input.
yes it is big and safe
I have a 05 Tundra with the 4.7 motor great truck & 182,000 runs great!! I also live in Southern California and payed $2.99 for gas
I have a 2004 Sequoia 4WD, my average is 15.7, was until recently 15.6 which suggests I am perhaps getting around 16. You must do a lot of stop/start driving for it to be so low.
I love my 07,but yeah the gas makes me want another corrola
My wife has a 2006 toyota sienna with the same avg mpg display on the ceiling, well I've noticed it is way inaccurate we get more mpg than it shows.
My 2007 GX470 has the same engine and I get 18-19 mpg on the highway. Here in Iowa gas is $2.20 per gallon. So, fuel mileage is not really a big concern for me. I can’t believe gas is that expensive in California! I think I’d seriously considering moving.
Does the GX470 have third row seating?
If I’m not mistaken I believe it does have a third row. Just not as spacious.
Gas stations are averaging $5.50-$6.50. Ridiculous I say, absurd!
Nice sunglasses you have on what model
I have 240k on my 2001 Limited and am averaging 20mpg mixed driving in Colorado. It’s the best 4wd out there!
Change your fuel filter if you haven't yet. I gained 2 mpg by doing that on my 4Runner. It was still the stock fuel filter with 232K miles on it...
thank you , good idea
YO MY 2011 Grand Cherokee 2 wheel drive, V6 gets 14.5mpg....your good. It’s much bigger, with a V8 getting midsize 6 cyl SUV gas mileage. However, others have told me with the same Jeep I have they get 16-17 mpg. It’s probably the tires I chose but still. That is really good for a full size SUV.
225K on mine. It is a little thirsty, but still a LOT cheaper than paying for a new Toyota.
Well you're in luck because the 2023 is looking amazing... But very expensive
@sethjackson2266 I ended up getting a 2013 sequoia platinum. Same basic vehicle from 2006 to 2020 (i think) or so when they had some major changes and updates. So far it's been great.
@@txkevin3467 nice choice 👍
I only drive mine once a day to take the children and myself to taekowndo practice. It’s less than 2 miles away with a really crowded dirt parking lot. All of my other driving is done with an EV.
Great feedback on the gas..
I am Thinking of buying one off these..
Gotta think about the gas damm
I w work is 24 miles from house.
48 total on a,day damm thst is,alot1 of money..in one day .. thank you great vid..
I left Calif a long time ago...waste of money
What was in the cargo area that chewed up your sides of the interior!!?? OMG was a doberman back there???
My 2002 Sequioa 4WD with almost 200,000 miles gets about 21 MILES PER GALLON on highway(only). I use it to deliver for my job daily covering almost 100 miles per day
