BMW, I just had to log in to reply to this video. Look, I get it. You went out on a limb with a polarizing design and the response has been overwhelmingly negative. So your response is to challenge the "average" person to try to step up their game, try to embrace something new and be more open minded. It's not working. I'm the primary target you're looking for with this EV. I already own one Luxury EV, the Tesla Model 3 Performance. I'm used to living with an EV and I'm a fan. I also own a luxury SUV, a Porsche Cayenne that is ready for replacement. I am open to new technology and would have bought an i3 back in the day except the range just wasn't enough to make it work where I live. I loved the way it looked and the funky charm it exuded. Quite frankly, I like the overall direction of this vehicle. From every metric, I am your PERFECT demographic for this car. So I feel like this ad is speaking to me directly. And it's insulting. Yeah, you're trying to be cute. But your ad is literally saying "we hear you, and we're dismissively brushing aside your comments, or literally rolling our eyes at each other". Literally, you are showing actors / actresses brushing away our comments, laughing at them. Yeah, the interwebz can always be counted on to attack, and to desperately cling to the old ways. So a lot of the comments are just noise. Well I'm here to tell you that sorry, you've completely lost me with this one. The massive grilles are just way too in your face. They're unnecessary and completely the opposite of the "shy tech" you've worked so hard on elsewhere. Sorry, but this vehicle just looks a mess. I wish I could say differently, but I can't. If you care to respond, I'd love to have a dialog about why I'm wrong in my thinking, along with thousands of others.
It will be like the i3. In the beginning everyone thought the design was bad. Now, years later it is still very popular and the design is much better perceived. BMW is much more ambitous than other manufacturers.
Nowadays it is not about giving people what they want, but to be courageous and convince them of the better. Tesla is so valuable because they are courageous. In my opinion BMW is going the right way here. There are enough normal good designs. Something polarizing creates much more attention. Just my opinion
I have an 07 5 series, and I think you might be right. Its not appealing to some people now, but I wonder if their luxury targeted styling appeals to a demographic we are not part of and don't understand? The Lexus mega grill I always found hideous, is kind of normal now, pickup trucks have all gone to mega ultra grills too (Chevrolet) When the E60 came out people hated it, said it was super ugly and not BMW, but it aged well most people would agree. The interior full of Screens, maybe that's what they are predicting their future market will want? It'll be interesting to see how it plays out, it was a good commercial anyway you cut it. New Merc's are also, ahem, a bit controversial, nobody wants sports cars anymore, impress your friend Mobiles is the way it goes. (20yr olds dream of SUV's not Sports cars now, so they say)

As a long term BMW owner and currently driving a hybrid version. I bought my 330e because I was convinced by the technical specifications and the excellent service of the dealership but in spite of a bland design. I am pretty confident that the iX will be technically excellent. The issue is not that BMW buyers are not open for change and many actually embrace the transition to EVs. The big issue BMW has today is design. This has nothing to do with being conservative because modern designs in the history of BMW have had huge success. (Bangle period, i8, i3) Why is the BMW board blind to the fact that in the last 10 years, several new BMW models ( 5 GT, 6- series, X4, X6, iX) are just below par when it comes to design. BMW buyers are very loyal but if they protest in big numbers, there must be something wrong. Adrian Van Hooydonk lost it.
The Chris Bangle 5 series was a brilliant piece of design. It didn't have the controversial whale tail of the 7 series but kept all the good design elements. It was modern looking. It was distinctly Teutonic but while still having elegance and class to it. I don't think he deserves the hate he got I think it looks miles better than the F10 / G30 cars which are just jellybean shapes like all other cars now.
@@slunasaurusrex Its interesting as people really disliked the Bangle cars and they were a moderate change compared to this new design. Not so long ago BMW couldn't make a car that looked bad.
TBH, the ad is brilliant. The car's design however uggghhhh... We change for a purpose. Changing just for the sake of changing? Switch to electric? Yes, maybe. Switch to ugly? Hell naw.
Genau warum müssen alle Elektroautos so beschissen aussehen?
It’s even worse that the car is electric and has one of the biggest, most hideous grills ever situated in a car that doesn’t even need an engine to cool
I just love the design of the IX, interior as well as exterior. It is beautiful! Seriously. I have seen the car in person, and must say it is a jewel. When I saw the grill on a real car in person, I must say it is really a very nice design. Look at the grill of Audi etron and Q4 etron as well as Lexus - seriously, those grills are even larger and not good looking at all. 99% of all the comments I have seen from people who actually have seen and tried the car, are positive and applauding. Before judging and having strong opinions about a car just based on pictures, you should be a bit open minded until you have actually seen it in person. Many people admit that they changed their mind after seeing the car in person. When I this fall started looking around what EV's could be of interest to replace my BMW X3, I was open minded and considered all models on the marked. The BMW IX50 quickly stood out of the crowd in a very positive way. Now I have tried a lot of EV before making my final decision, and my clear conclusion is that the BMW IX50 meets all my expectations of an EV in 2021: high tech, innovative, modern new design, high comfort, premium feeling, nice design, long range. So again, my advice is to see the car in person and try it before judging.

My Father & I were BMW Mechanics. We have a collection of around a dozen BMW cars and three BMW Motorcycles, from the company's golden era when all the German Auto Manufacturers were competing to produce proper, over-engineered masterpieces with that sense of solidity that felt as though they were milled from a block of Titanium to last forever. And the closer you looked at the chassis and mechanical components, the more amazing the detailing became right down to the smallest pieces & fasteners, which compared to Australian & American vehicles, looked more like it was aircraft grade than automotive. They were on a mission to build the finest mass produced vehicles on Earth, designed & engineered for excellence regardless of investment required, and they were the standard against which all other vehicles were measured. Full stop. Built to a standard, not to a budget or economic target like today. Now, they are more like four wheeled appliances, over-stuffed with overly-complex computerised electronics and techno gadgets designed to impress the newer generations obsessed with that crap....the kids you see walking the streets with their mobiles held permanently in front of their faces, staring like zombies at their screens, so completely absorbed in all their social media BULLS#!T or whatever, they'll occasionally walk into a bus stop, tree, sign, post box, another zombie, or even vehicles. Laugh my ass off every time. According to the manufacturers, these morons drive demand for ever increasing electronic complexity in vehicles. From a mechanic's perspective, let me assure you, despite all their promises of reliability & longevity, these complex systems, especially after the vehicle is a few years old and continues to age, WILL break down and suffer all manner of malfunctions manifesting in often diabolically mysterious symptoms even their own Master Technicians with their latest diagnostic computers can't fathom. My Father was a Mechanic at a BMW Dealership until a few years ago, and I was an independent BMW Specialist Mechanic, so believe me, we know. I could tell you stories you wouldn't believe that at least three Master Tech's can verify, among others. As for electric cars.....🙄😣😫😵🤢🤮 They're just more soulless, four-wheeled appliances with all the appeal of a microwave oven, and the sound of an electric tooth brush or motorised wheelchair. No doubt they will completely replace internal combustion in the future, but thankfully not in my lifetime. Future generations will love them because they won't know anything else or have any experience of internal combustion to compare it to, and will have been indoctrinated from birth with all the politically correct appreciation of these mobile Fridges, and loathing for the evils of the past. Poor bastards. I'm going to be embalmed with the finest grade German Motor Oil in my veins, and buried inside a giant Jerry Can of High Octane race fuel. Either that, or buried seated behind the wheel of my E24 635CSi, or in the saddle of my R1200C Motorcycle, cruising with righteousness into the afterlife! This just says BMW is willingly ignoring their customers. Electric cars don’t have to be ugly. Look at Polestar and Lucid. Those are beautiful cars that don’t scream to the high heavens that EVs must be weird like you all did with this car!
@@BMW The problem is not "change". The problem is believing the "change" you made is the CORRECT change, or that it's the only possible change. @@BMW It might be better to accept that EV´s do not need huge grilles as they need much smaller air intake than an ICE car, thus the grille is a dummy. In refined design you try to avoid dummies, you try to integrate form and function ("form follows function"). To insult the own fans is a very dumb move by the way.
BMW Design is so much about emotions. My deepest respect for the previous great work of Chris Bangle, Adrian van Hooydonk and others. Despite of many older models, I also consider icons like the Z8 or E63 6 series as a piece of art. The current design just turns me sad. Even if you wanna create a bit of controversial emotions with the design, the overall appearance should turn positive in the end. And yes - I don’t like each single line on my E63 either but the lines match and I appreciate the overall design. In my opinion BMW exactly misses that point with the recent models...
The BMWs that made me love and appreciate the brand were classy, elegant, subtle, timeless and all the things this 4 wheeled thing is not. It looks like it was inspired by a prehistoric oversized mutant cybermole and a bad trip in LSD
Reason not to change is your design. Undesirable, wonky and unbalanced. And the funniest thing is in this ad itself - if you buy this thing, all you do is get tons of comments saying wtf is that, while you trying to swipe em off while you driving. Lol Long live classic BMW...

Wow,Wow, this ad is very cool by design. I've never seen this before. I think it is very cool that you are experimenting, and not like others. Love you BMW ❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely love the new grills even on the M3/M4. Change is good. If you don't like it then don't buy it. There's no gun on your head forcing you to purchase it. Good job BMW
I fell in love with BMW in 1988. One was loaned to me to drive, and I understood the thing that you can't put into words about BMW. 3 years later, I bought my first BMW, a 1986 325es. I loved that car mostly for its looks and how well it drove. I just bought a 2012, and it was hard to find one with a manual transmission. What I'm seeing here Bears no resemblance to either one.
As a long time BMW aficionado and owner, I'm sorry to say that change doesn't necessarily mean better. I'm not opposed to change, but I am opposed to ugly. I'm an industrial designer and understand the world of design. I used to follow your company closely, eager for new designs, many of which I appreciated. But it seems the company has taken a turn for the worse in the past decade. Designs have been largely disappointing, and cars have ballooned in weight and technology that have made them less reliable and less pure. I'm truly sad as I had always felt strongly connected to the brand, but I feel BMW has lost its way. It won't change my passion for BMW classics, like the E30's I own and love, but I won't be driving any modern BMW's for the foreseeable future. I'd prefer to stick with change in the form of good design, like what Lucid is doing, as a single example. Or like many other manufacturers that are creating compelling designs. I'm not saying the iX is all bad, but the grille/headlight design is awkward and poorly executed. It used to be that BMW set a lot of the design standards in the industry, but I can't imagine any other manufacturer wanting to mimic this design in any way shape or form. You could argue that it is in fact BMW that is now simply copying or following trends, such as massive grilles that have been around for the past ten years. The problem is BMW is 5 to 10 years late to the ball game, and that look is no longer terribly attractive. :(
"Can't you make electric cars look like normal cars?" Who the hell said that? Who wants an electric car with a big stupid bonnet that has nothing underneigh it? BMW, you are underestimating your customers, go ahead and design an EV that does NOT look like a "normal" car and pretty soon there will be a new normal. Ask VW for pointers.

It wont grow on people but they will get used to it and because of that they will say its good looking. The i3 is still ugly to this day.
Nowadays it is not about giving people what they want, but to be courageous and convince them of the better. Tesla is so valuable because they are courageous. In my opinion BMW is going the right way here. There are enough normal good designs. Something polarizing creates much more attention.
Just my opinion

I have been the proud and happy owner of an E 30 and two E 36, what I saw in those wonderful cars I don't see anymore in the newest BMWs.

I love bmw 2000-2018 designs

Hello Mercedes, I'm coming...😌
And you can shove that up your Instasham or Twitt accounts, D**KHEADS.

I loved that car mostly for its looks and how well it drove. I just bought a 2012, and it was hard to find one with a manual transmission. What I'm seeing here Bears no resemblance to either one.
One of your best introduction video!
The interior is so nice🤩
