I'm ashamed of what American youth have espoused as truth without really looking beyond the misinformation being advocated by academia and social media. I'm stunned that their parents, grandparents and other adult family members have failed to pay closer attention to the ideologies being instilled. Children need to be taught how to discern the truth from a lie and to ask questions about ideas especially those that feel wrong to them. I love and respect both of these Senators, there my favorites, and boy they both made compelling opinions. I felt strongly about banning Tic Tok but Paul's right. Our Constitution, at least 2 1/2 years ago, is exactly what makes America so special and unique. It is also what the democrats want to take away from us. As for Hawley, I used to think he was a real conservative but now I think he's mostly just a blow hard that likes to hear himself talk. Josh Hawley is trying to show people how vulnerable this genZ generation really is. If facts were given for a long read, then the youth would skip over them, they just follow their peers and not read the facts of the matter, “monkey say, monkey do.” The genZ generation is the generation I believe to be the last, hence the Z following gen. (A through Z). Remember, who said “We will take over America without firing a shot.” Communist China, buying up the black belt and closing in on our military facilities also, why? It's tough to support the first amendment and want the toxic TikTok banned from America. I think it more important to hold all social media accountable for selective censorship. If they're going to operate in America, then they should be regulated to follow guidelines that closer match the first amendment.
Banning it is easy, but whether this action by the federal government is constitutional will be a hell of a fight for the Supreme Court. The other side could argue in the Supreme Court that allowing this ban would set up the precedent for allowing other bans on other platforms if they are "threats" to national security considered by the federal government.
We don't have any control over what Chinese companies do.

And the bigger problem is if you want to control what one or two Chinese companies do, you have to also make laws to control everyone else. That is called the equal application of the law. I am sure their terms are similar to that of Facebook, Google, or even Twitter. When you sign up and click "I agree," you allow the companies to do everything with your data. If you aren't happy about it, don't use it. I come down on the side of informing the people of the harm of TikTok and the parents of children need to restrict their children from using it. what did you take away from that? I will say I am lean towards Paul and not for votes but because censorship can grow if we allow it more and we have already allowed too much censorship as it is. I don't use that App or any social media apps still I disagree with it being unused but as of the government banning it on government devices that they can do all day. Closing up spying some too.
I really like Rand Paul but sometimes he simply doesn't understand reality versus ideology. His principles are correct but he's applying the wrong ones to the debate. He actually doesn't understands certain national security issues. For example his rant against Saudi Arabia was pathetic. Saudi Arabi has been a strong ally. Now you look at their "royal family" ant it's involvement in terrorism this is to fail to understand how big the royal family is because I guess nobody ever thought about how many wives, sons, grandsons and so forth Ibn Saud had. And if a Saudi "journalist" with a US Green Card gets killed in Turkey is it really a national security issue for the USA? We're going to cut them out of the F35 program over that? Rand Paul gets most things right but I would not want him to be President for that reason. He gets it mostly right but then falls in love with all of his own principles. He gets too certain about things that he doesn't grasp well enough. His attacks of Fauci were golden. We need more like that. But Rand Paul's foreign policy is naive. Here he says it's about censorship with the entire "special pleading" against TikTok is that not only is it doing all the things we don't like tech companies to do in China but it is also owned by China and its entire operation is mirrored (the data) in China. If China wants to ask Google for data on "national security grounds" but it's stored in the USA then China must hack it or pressure them. If the data is stored in China they don't even have to ask, obviously. Because every eye and hand on the infrastructure knows they must comply with CCP orders. Period. I don't know how any one in DC can fail to understand this. There are no enforceable rights or duties the CCP promises to anyone or anything. Everyone knows they do what they want whereover they have the power to do so. If they have sovereign control over mainland China so you think there is any difference between TikTok data stores and the CCP equivalent of our NSA? No. There is none.

Rand Paul is 100% right, like always, as he is using the only thing that matters, the Constitution. Even if it is a security threat, the government does not have the Authority to limit our speech. The Constitution is written to control the government and not us. It does not give us rights, they are God-given. The Constitution limits the governments power and the very 1st amendment, is about how the government cannot infringe on our freedom of speech. Social media is speech, legally even. If they do this, the government has become tyrannical and then the next Jan 6th would not be unjustified and illegal.

I usually see eye to eye with Rand Paul, but not on this issue. Anyone that’s ever been on or has TIKTOK, knows Tom Cottons assessment is 110% accurate, not to mention the App doesn’t stop there, it will also attempt to spread spyware on your router then on connected WiFi devices. Having listened to both sides, I agree and thankful to make my own decision.
I deleted Tic Toc today, as I also deleted some other useless apps.
What gets me, are some apps which I apparently am not able to ‘delete’!
Because THEYRE spying on you
TikTok can still get on your phone or computer. In fact deleting the ap doesnt remove it. I suggest you do as I did. Block the TikTok website/url and any other soical media website you dont want spying on you. You have to go into your computer a bit and find the block website portion but Im pretty lame on computers and was able to find it after I deleted TIK Tok cookies multiple times even though I have never once been on Tik Tok and certiainly never joined.

You may have deleted the app, but the program is still there.
If it doesn't delete or have an Uninstall button then a lot of phones have a Disable button. That's better than nothing. Also, restrict the apps to not be able to run in the background, remove permissions of notifications, location, etc.

Rand Paul is a true American
They both have points, but Rand hits it home. We can not promote free speech while censoring bad speech. We need more speech, even if that leads to bad ideas being presented. Let those bad ideas fall in the market ideas and fail on their own. We need more speech. What we need to look at on the data side is protect the data used on tiktok, not ban the ideas on tiktok.
Giving the gov't a say in what apps I'm allowed to install on my phone is a clown move.
I don't use tik-tok. I tell everyone who uses it how problematic it is and should not have it installed on their main phone, but I firmly believe they have the choice to use it or not.
If anything should be done here, obligate companies like Google and Apple to place a very visible disclaimer and prompts informing people what any foreign(and even domestically) made apps are doing on your phone and with your data.
More than anything, we need more control of your own data. Not more gov't control.

But letting people know it's a threat and they choose to install or not knowing full well that their information is at risk with the app is the utmost protection for freedom and people's ability to decide what to do with their own data.
The problem with your argument is that TikTok is aimed at teenagers who are easily swayed, confused, brainwashed and manipulated. (No sensible adult would watch that shit for more than 5 seconds anyway.) Unlike adults, teenagers have limited or no legal responsibility for their actions. Some of them can't even read properly, but that's symptomatic of the American education system.
The problem with all of what you wrote only exposes how you totally ignored how the Chinese is gathering YOUR personal information without your permission and guess who also holds important information, your child, your wife, your close friends, your close family members. I'm confused.. Paul said tik tok is banned in China..but is it? I saw a few videos the other day made by girls from/in China and they all basically said that they do have tik tok in China but they ban them from watching any "woke" style videos. Does anyone know which one is true?

Rand's argument doesn't work for the same reason conservatives couldn't sue Twitter pre-Elon: this doesn't prevent their speech, it just means they have to install another app.

Banning it is easy, but whether this action by the federal government is constitutional will be a hell of a fight for the Supreme Court. The other side could argue in the Supreme Court that allowing this ban would set up the precedent for allowing other bans on other platforms if they are "threats" to national security considered by the federal government.

So that's a good start. But keep going. Take what you have learned from TikTok and see if you can learn more on the subject from other sources. That's what I do. If I'm scrolling through Shorts and hear something I never heard before, I investigate it further.
I've heard lots of people say how much they have learned from TikTok, but imagine what else there could be to learn from other sources. That's how to keep an open mind, to not rely on one source to get all your info.

Rand’s thinking is off. Compare this Tik Tok issue or argument to a seeming anomaly. It is a fact that most of the social media inventors as well as the pioneers of Big Tech’s ever progressive and injurious sites and games do not allow let their own children to use them. In this scenario, China is like the wise parent that is intimately aware of the damaging effects of social media and protects their children by eliminating their exposure. Just because China bans Tik Tok’s use in China does not mean it is an evil decision and in order to be “good” Americans should do the opposite! Rand’s logic is seriously flawed.
China wants to have the advantage of being able to use Tik Tok’s platform to plant their propaganda into the minds of American youth without having Americans use that tool against their young people.
It is more effective and much wiser to prevent the seed from growing in the first place than it is to try and uproot an invasive plant or idea . “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
