The Music of Cuphead - The Delicious Last Course: Recording “A Recipe for Ms. Chalice”

- The Cuphead - Delicious Last Course soundtrack is comprised of over 110 musicians, performing big band & symphonic music. In Summer of 2021 - in the midst of the COVID pandemic - Studio MDHR brought those musicians together for a series of carefully planned recording sessions.
This is an exclusive look at how some of the game’s music was created. We hope it brings a smile to your face.
This game has some of the best music of any game in my opinion

If i am not mistaken, the marimba player with the blue jacket is Kristofer Maddigan himself, the composer of the entire soundtrack

ms chalice definitely took some getting used to after playing as the cups for nearly 5 years, but once you do… its REALLY hard to go back to the cups.
It’s the dash parry and now that I’m used to it I can’t get back into regular parrying lol
I do like playing as Chalice, but the jump party is still Goated

@@Hapkidoman442 Same. Getting used to party dash was a matter of seconds but going back to single jumps took me a while

This is always a treat to watcch. To see this kind of stuff that I've seen little to NO other indie company do. you guys rock and so does the music. you guys should make a "The Music of Cupheadc" book with screenshots of the band playing and the sheet music too for archiving sake and so others can try to learn the songs too!

This guy has extreme talent with mallets to drum with such perfect rhythm, and with such incredible speeds. The scales hes playing and the speed at which he’s doing them is absolutely insane, it’s great to see how much effort and love he’s poured into this game

As a professional percussionist, I’m so impressed. I’ve got some xylophone chops, but this guy is otherworldly. The 16th note stuff starting at 1:20 is so clean.
I love how the xylophone was played in this track. It’s such a good song for the TUTORIAL LEVEL

This is absolutely incredible, i came immediately to the internet to see if this song was already somewhere after hearing it in game, it’s just so cheery and i love it and all the other songs in Cuphead! Thanks Studio MDHR for giving us all this and more!

I loved it in the gane awards at the end of the overture performance. i was so bummed after not hearing it in the game version. I didn't know it would come back in this tune!
So glad after 3 years we were finally able to play this masterpiece even though I will say I had trouble with the final boss, it definitely was a great package!

I was seriously thinking about skipping this album (I have never played the game) because I was expecting a "Bravely Default II" (i.e. a forgettable album with a completely foreign sound) but WOW. It sounds as if it were created in conjunction with the original soundtrack. It's an absolutely delightful & thrilling addition to the world of Cuphead.
Also: I am amazed that they're using real marimba and a xylophone, because I assumed they were using a synthesizer of some sort. Brilliant stuff! 🌈✨️

The Xylophone has always been a favorite of mine! I can’t play…but I will always envy those skills! I def had a huge smile on my face during this 😁

The solo instrument is a xylophone, all other mallet instruments were marimba
I actually like that they used the recording of music from a very small part of the game, being Chalice's tutorial, because it showed that they really put their heart and soul into EVERY single part of the game, no matter how miniscule. Studio MDHR truly deserves its legacy in the games industry.
It’s insane how that MDHR literally makes music for such a small and insignificant part of the game.
I absolutely love the music in this game. I would love to see a recording of Gnome Way Out.

Everything about this game and DLC is simply art. Everybody involved is insanely talented! This. This is my favorite game ever. Everything had so much effort put into it, the animation, the concept, the music, this is all gorgeous! The entire community thanks studio MDHR for their amazing work ✨
This is why I love video games. You might hear that version in the game for the full four mins or so that I assume that is, but those four minutes are brought to you by countless hours of mistakes, rehearsals, retakes, and honing in each and every part of that peice just so you can have that four minutes of your game. Now picture that in a ten hour game. Where by the fucking way your bossfights are hand drawn, each and every mfing frame, made by countless people with unrelenting determination just so you can rage a bit and fight a boss for 10-20 mins. I love video games.
That damn smile after the "yeah" like "this bad girl is gonna smash 'em all... and people says that games are not made whit love anymore...❤

These are so fun to watch (especially getting to see Maddigan perform), props to Studio MDHR for going all out with this incredible DLC. I'm hoping they also put out a video like this for Doggone Dogfight, my favourite of the new tracks!
You can see that everyone is wearing masks which could possibly mean this recording took place on quarintine,or It could have been a personal choice on the crew but it shows the teams pure dedication

Xylophone used to be very popular solo virtuoso instrument in the 1920’s, like in the style in this. The xylophonist crushed it, and all the marimbists were very clean as well!!

it’s absolutely incredible the amount of work that goes into every single song in the soundtrack, the fact that it’s all made with real people playing instruments instead of just being produced digitally gives it that much more oomph when playing

As a percussionist, the marimbas and xylophone were *chef's kiss*
The fact that they don't digitalize sounds make it feel more like someones playing the music in real time and accounting for the force in which to play the note really makes a difference.

I would love to see a Cuphead game in Ren & Stimpy 90s gross-out style...but I'm sure they need a long deserved break from the animation for awhile. I can't even fathom what game will be next. I just hope they know that it might be hard to top their current works....but they will absolutely rise to the challenge and give us their amazingly beautiful gifts that monetary exchange doesn't even come close to equating what they give us.
This song would fit right at home in Nintendo Land, another great song for an amazing soundtrack.
My brother died recently, and we played cuphead together and we were really excited to play the DLC, but unfortunately he couldn't stay with us, our dream was to create a game in the cuphead mold, I promised him that I would follow our dream... Thank you for making it part of my MDHR life bringing this fun to me and my brother...
