So even whitout any MDS codes, i remove 4 MDS solenoids and clean 4 magnets under and restart the truck....RUN LIKE A KITTEN!! Hope i give little help!😉
It’s honestly very simple on the 2009+ hemi. What did they change? They added the VVT and they raised the camshaft higher now by raising the camshaft higher when the car is idling, the cam is not getting lubed up. That’s why you see failure on vehicles with high idling time. Now when the car is moving, the crank is spinning faster applying enough, oil, splash to the camshaft. That’s number one failure. Number two failure is the angle of the lifters. It has nothing to do with oil pressure. There’s no way to fix this. It’s just a stupid flaw on the engineering’s part.
I just had a failed lifter (cylinder #3) and I have 307K on the motor - original owner. It's at the dealer now - lifetime Maxcare Warranty, but they'll buy me out of the contract on this one as the value of the repair will likely exceed the value of the vehicle. Waiting to see.
Mine doesn’t make any tick noise. Idles perfect. I can rev it. But if I hold it above 3k for 10 seconds it’ll start to misfire. What was the early symptoms of yours?
SOLID JOB!!! I was told to use Lucas Syn in place of one quart by a engine builder here in San Diego. I change my oil every 4K or yearly whichever is less using Mobile1 syn. At this time I only put 1800 miles working from home but still change it. 43K miles on my late model 2014 1500. I have the broken Manifold bolt already. I also try to not let it idle too long.. Hoping I got a later 2014 with the better parts. Tempted to do the cams and lifters soon anyways as preventive maint. That way I do not have to deal with shavings. Thanks again for the info and I will start using the 10w30 over the 10-20... rather have better protection from the oil.
My 17 ram 1500 recently had cam and lifter failure sucks for me out of warranty. Changed my oil regularly before recommend intervals. Royal Purple oil. Crazy I have an 05 Magnum RT With 267,000 miles with no issue. Very worried I might need a new engine. Have not gotten to the VVT Solonoid yet. Informative video
@@vinny3639got a tick. Ran immaculately in until a month ago, started to get a little sluggish. Was about to do a tranny flush and filter change, which I’ll still have to do and I started getting the ping, wouldn’t call it a tick. I’m a week into the ping starting and I’m benching it until mid November to take it in, full expecting can and lifter. 70k miles in Canada. 5-7k km oil changes… by dealership and on top of all maintenance. After warrentee and service package ended I did my first oil change on it and I was able to remove the filter by hand, loose intake horn. Cabin filter whistle was because they never snapped the cover back in place. Just changed the rear differential fluid and it was half empty. Fuck dealerships. Just paid the truck off too
The root cause for the majority is the cast iron camshaft with poor induction hardened shell. Will eventually occur to all of these bumpsticks. Check my latest short... ALL lifters were perfectly functional, 115k miles
Yeah the camshafts are definitely way too soft. You can see the peeling so to speak on the other lobes even though the lifters havent come apart. Its not helping anything.
NEED HELP My FRIEND (not me) just did lifters and cam change on his 2018 (392) charger by the dealer, payed over $6,500, has 52K milles,, changes Amsoil every 3-3.5 K miles religiously and the car is making same noise (not as loud) again. What to do ?
Great, well spoken and honest video. My 2014 has a collapsed lifter in cylinder 6. I unavoidably drove 124 miles on it after noticing the distinct loud ticking. Is it necessary to pay the price to investigate if there is further damage, or are my chances pretty good that its just a lifter. I had no previous engine issues before this and my Ram has 170,000 miles on it.
Very likely its gonna have cam damage unfortunately. If oil pressure is still perfect i wouldnt hesitate to put cam and lifters in it and get another 120+k out of it. Replace the timing guide, chain, and tensioner at that mileage though.
I have a 2015, drive it really easy, lately going up hill while pulling a small trailer I heard a rattling noise during acceleration, mechanic told me possibly timing chain guides are worn. Then 2 weeks later I’m getting a shake and vibration when accelerating up a hill or just giving it more throttle and when I let off the throttle, it stops shaking, scanner says p0305 and p0304, misfires I think. So is all this because my cam is going out? 187,000 miles.
Good video.. im at 160k, 2013 ram. Still runnin decent, just a noisy engine. Is the failed lifter something that happens over time? Like noise getting louder and louder of 10-40k? Is there warning signs? Or can you expect a misfire code to pop up shortly after and kind of rely on that ? Hard to know what is normal. Mine sounds really bad next to buildings at idle. Possible its exhaust manifold, i know its similar. Do you have a video that shows how to diagnose? Could you post a video comparing normal/bad lifter ?
I bought a 2011 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman, 2WD, short bed, single cab, about 14 months ago. It now has about 115K miles on it and seems to be running great. I change the oil and filter every 3K and only use full synthetic oil and Mopar oil filters. My question is this: Do I wait for lifter failure or should I be proactive and get a cam/lifter job before anything fails? I like my truck, and I don’t want unnecessary damage to occur. Thanks in advance for the feedback.
I mean thats a question of budget. Being a 2011 its probably never been done at that mileage but is probably at any time gonna fail. Preface: I still change my oil every ~6,000 miles or 6 months, BUT... I've had over 100 used oil analyses done at Blackstone Labs, and your claim that engine oil "breaks down" and gets diluted by fuel, etc is just plain conjecture without any evidence. The fact of the matter is that many of my UOA's were done on oils with upwards of - and sometimes more than - 10k miles, and Blackstone's labs never once found reason to label the oil as "end of life" or beyond. This includes testing for remaining additive package, lubricating properties, break-down properties, contamination, etc. So while, yes, more frequent oil changes are "cheap insurance", the fact of the matter is that modern engine oils being used by modern engines remain effective well into the 10k mile range (barring any severe use, etc).
