Nice video well thought out for the non-technical. Maybe do another on security also on Apps that can help with WiFi (e.g. Fing).

You could use PoE to get a cable into a garage or wherever. As it happens I'm using a wifi extender to my GW inverter and thats working fine (was already there for my EV charger). My installers did start off with ethernet into that extender (It has an ethernet port also) but then switched it to the extenders wifi.

Or if routing a lan cable is a problem, providing there is an electri al socket nearby , then a powerline adaptor would be another solution.

@@David-bl1bt oops I mistakenly put PoE when I meant the opposite, Ethernet over power !!

@@Joe-lb8qn This was an instructional video for general users, and well targeted for that audience.
I’m pretty sure EVM is only using the router as a router, not an AP.
Go back to the early section and look on the wall next to the inverter and the Ring camera there is what looks like a Ubiquiti AP. I didn’t notice if it’s a PoE model. That’s a good Prosumer brand that a self confessed IT tech might choose to run his home network. Multi ssid and almost endlessly configurable.
The WiFi section of the ISP router is usually the first thing I discard in my installations. I usually don’t use their routers at all unless forced to do so by streaming TV (VM, in bridge mode) or DigitalVoice (BT and Vodafone).

I was interested in the option of hard wire connection of the inverter to replace the dongle, but did I miss the point where this modification was described? Any pointer would be helpful 🙂

To use LAN on the GivEnergy Energy Hybrid invertor, you need to move the Dip switch labelled "1" inside the invertor to the position down in the same side of the printed numbers. Dip switches 2,3,4 should be opposite to re numbers, which I believe they already are. Before you change the DIP switches, please power off bit the AC and Dc supply to the invertor first 😍

Shame you didn't cover wifi security and issues with the givenergy dongle. They simply do not work on WPA3, at least not yet anyway.

I would love to not use wifi at all but my givenergy inverter is a gen1 with a 2.4GHz wifi dongle only :(

My router is in the garage, not far from the GE stuff, but still ran wires. Soooo my more reliable.
