To clarify the official national anthem is ‘Amhrán na bhFiann’ and then ‘Ireland’s call’ was written for the rugby team and is sung at all their games.
The players aren't getting emotional because they're sad, it's more out of pride. They are representing their country. Also, it's two separate songs. The second song, Ireland's Call is only played at rugby matches as the Republic and Northern Ireland are on the same team so players from NI may not be comfortable singing the Irish anthem.
@Louise Mcilwaine you're from Northern Ireland. 28% of Northern Ireland identify as Irish so 72% aren't irish. Look at the census of Northern Ireland under national identity
@Louise Mcilwaine I'm from the Republic so I won't argue with you about your national identity but people from NI do have the right to choose whether or not they identify as Irish or British and I understand why some may not feel comfortable singing the Irish anthem.
The first anthem performed was "Amhrán na bhFiann" , the Irish language version of the national anthem of the Republic of Ireland (known in English as "A Soldiers' Song"). The second one was "Ireland's Call", which is performed at rugby games where Ireland are playing as some players are from Northern Ireland, and so may take offence to being associated with the Irish national anthem.
Whilst it is almost exclusively sung in Irish, an Oireachtas bill in 2019 states that it is the official anthem regardless of whether it is in Irish, in English, or just instrumental www.oireachtas.ie/en/bills/bill/2019/3/
@Damian Roach yeah.. there's an English version. But weird to describe the original as "the Irish version".. sounds like it was translated into Irish..

It is the National Anthem Of Ireland , 32 counties, One Island, One Nation, One Country, and if you don't like it RYANAIR have cheap seats back to that shithole you ancestors came from.
The reason they have two is because the first one u listened to is irish and the people in north Ireland (who play for Ireland their is only 1 rugby team in Ireland)dont want to learn irish so they made a new anthem in english for them celeabrating both nations. Hope that clears it up a little bit
It's two different songs stuck together. The first part ("The Soldier's Song") is the traditional Irish anthem, and the second part ("Ireland's Call") was written in 1995 for the Rugby World Cup. Which was a shame, because Irish rugby already had a great unofficial anthem, "The Fields of Athenry", and I wish they'd adopted that instead. Sadly, I've always found "Ireland's Call" rather cheesy... sorry, Ireland!
@@galoglaich3281 I knew that "Fields of Athenry" was fairly recently written, but it somehow feels more "traditional" than it is. Oddlly enough, I find it shares this characteristic with Scotland's adopted anthem (Flower of Scotland) which was itself only written in the mid-1960s.
@@galoglaich3281 Agreed! They certainly get the crowds going and, although my allegiance is with Wales, I always enjoy singing them along with the Irish and Scottish fans.

The first one, is Amhrann Na Bhfiann. (The soldiers song) the national anthem of the Republic of Ireland, the second, isn't. it's ireland's call, a song sung at rugby matches only.

The Ireland Rugby team is the Republic and Northern Ireland. If the game is played in the Republic of Ireland they sing The Soldiers Song and Ireland's Call. When playing away just Ireland's Call. In the past when games where played in Northern Ireland they would sing God Save the Queen.
There is the official Irish national athem that is song in irish gaelic And ireland's call which is the unofficial national athem of rugby of sporting events

Their singing our national anthem in our gaelic, the second is because some players are from the North of Ireland who are protestant, they don't sing our national anthem because they are English in their hearts,
Ireland has one national anthem the second song is Ireland's call it's the rugby anthem and is not the national anthem of Ireland the Irish national anthem is in Gaelic and translates to " the soldiers song " in English .
A) It's sung in Gaelic. (Irish) B) You said it hypes you up for fo battle out national anthem is called the solders song. C) the second some is only played at rugby because its the only sport we compete as 1 Island.
