That is my old car - I bought it in1976- it wasn't that old - but it only last 6 months because the timing chain jammed! I got it for $150. I guess it couldn't handle the cold winters in Cleveland!
Oh, how cute! I would LOVE one of these for my commute. Just think, if any of the belts broke, you could throw in a rubber band and be on your way. (Just kidding. That's what I do, see, I kid. I'm a kidder.) You're right, Rodney. One of these, in modern form, would probably give back 55-60 mpg, highway, even with A/C. What's more, it would have more usable interior space AND be more fun to drive than that silly Elio.
I had a perfect one of these same color, and at the same time a 67 Cutlass in perfect condition. I let them both go for peanuts. Who says kids are not stupid?!
Why don't they still make these? With improvements in technology, a car that size could probably get 55-60 mpg today and possibly even retail for under 10K. Those of us for whom a car is nothing but an effing appliance would snap them up and not care that we were being pointed at and laughed at by the majority of the population for whom a car is a totem with deep psycho-sexual significance.
Thanks for viewing my video. Until gas gets more expensive the sub-compacts cars won't sell very well, and they will never get down to the $10K range, there are too many crash and safety standards to meet, and the U.S. buyers want a lot more features and content in their cars than in 1972! There are sub-$10K cars available in India and China, but they could never be sold here. Eric Seltzer, Sparks, NV
It's a 1971....the difference between a 1972 and 1971 is the rear bumper. The 1971 is a 3 piece, in 1972, it was a 1 piece. The 1971 is slightly more desirable.
Yes! Parents had one in Germany, 1973-74 time frame.. Man I loved that little car :)
Thanks for the memories..
First car I bought new, about $1500. Blue, 598cc, air cooled, great for around town. First trip Mobile to New Orleans, and back. Better days.

50mpg, maybe 60mph, turn the crank on the door for air, heater worked good. And seats four uncomfortably. Ran on leaded gas.

The rear window had a nasty habit of popping out. Saw one fall out and smash on the pavement in front of my house (around 1974).
Can I buy it off you?

Well, it was titled as a 1972, maybe somebody switched bumpers. Thanks for watching and your comment.
They're ALL titled as 1972. The later ones had 1 piece bumpers. Yours, like mine, is the more desirable version.
