Wow, what a time capsule this is. I just graduated high school this year & honestly, if this represents the way teenage life was back then, I’m so bummed I didn’t get to experience it back then haha. Everybody seems so authentic & easygoing
Thank you so much for the nice comments, you sound like a very smart and well grounded person. I think my daughter Andrea and her friends were typical of the period, no cell phones, no internet, and "social media" was hanging out with classmates or getting involved with sports. Andrea has been an elementary school teacher for almost 20-years and is doing very well.
Don't know how I found this video, but as a dad, it was nice to watch. Obviously a wonderful daughter!
Thank you for the compliments, I'm pleased that you enjoyed the video of my daughter and her classmates. I worked with a McCubbin in the late 1960's when I was a test engineer at Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica, CA, "Mac" was a draftsman who did a lot of the drawings for our department. A real "character", liked by everybody, an ex-Navy man.
❤❤
I think this is the girl that had a baby with Bob Dylan in the bathroom at the prom.
The White Ford 105E Anglia sitting against the hay bales at the beginning was interesting .I never thought those were sold in the USA and that anyone knew the potential they had as a race car. I had a van version when I was 17 with a 1340 CC engine. Lots of fun .
saw a ferrari that if at the time he could guess it´s value today or in the late 80´s ,he would had stoped and finish racing with it, as the Porshe 356 if memory doesn´t fail me and not only, i own a lancia fulvia 1600HF since mid 70´s and only some 6 years ago i saw other on internet, the 1300 with 89 h.p. there were at least 3 still running in the late 80´s as daily drivers the same with the GT junior 1.3L from alfa-romeu in the town i was born and still live in it but went some years to Africa and also to north european countries as mine is in the south and the most west point of Europe, Portugal a place to visit but horrible to live there but it´s my country of origin. Well, all are great
one can see several espectacular cars racing
nice footage it takes one to other times i also had a 8mm film camera but never got sound with the super 8, i passed on to video camera´s next but so bad they were and heavy the recorder on a leather bag was not confortable
Is the Aston DB5 at 1.59s the 'Goldfinger" car? It looks like it has an English plate ending with A and possibly RHD. I believe there was a couple of promotional vehicles for the film.
Good eye! Yes, this photo is from 1964, it was one of the Goldfinger movie cars, license plate BMT216A, most likely one of the two promotional cars, not one of two movie cars. Just a lucky photo taken right when the Aston was driving by. The car had a huge Goldfinger movie poster on the doors.
Awesome archive of your Road + Lifestyle back in the great days of '60s L.A. motoring. I was blessed with the need for speed, always tweeking my cars in Mom +Dads garage. Neighbor was a photo agency: Pete Samerjan Photography and he only had the best in '60s/ '70s Ferraris...drove them all on the daily. Cherokee Recording was right next door to Pete, nice rides there too ! After school working in the back garage on the '69 SS Camaro & around these Stallions every day ! Thanks for these memories !
Sounds like you have some great car memories as well. Thanks for watching and writing.
What a beautiful and poignant film absolute gold dust . It captures everything that I imagine about California in the 60s beautiful light, beautiful people and the most beautiful Italian cars being used with abandon. Today to see them on the concours lawn is nice but nothing like how you got to experience them. Thank you for sharing this wonderful footage and a great choice of music ! I especially like the photo of the home respray with the news paper masking the windows.
Thank you Mark for the very nice and generous compliments, it's very gratifying to know that you enjoyed the film so much. I was very careful to only use music from that period, late 1960's, it suits the film and adds charm. It's music we would have been listening to at the time. Yes, I painted my Ferrari in my garage using available materials. Only 4-years old but that silver paint would not hold a shine, it was beyond polishing, so I painted it Ferrari Giallo Fly yellow, just to be different from the more common red. We used our cars daily to enjoy, they were just used cars, not art pieces to be kept in garages and shown rarely like today.
@@kartkingeric A few years ago i was working in a resto shop doing high end restos and one of the cars I assisted on was a twin to your Ferrari. The Owner insisted our firm did a repaint as the boss had talked up a big rep. The paint job was $50,000 and lots of bondo was uncovered. A witness to a car life lived . What seemed like a lot of money for a paint job was nothing compared to what they can cost in 2024.
Nice video. This was a time when the US was rich and used Ferrari's were cheap because they weren't yet discovered by the big money that later spoiled the classic car hobby. This 275GTB is worth quite a bit of cash these days. In the racing footage i think there is a Alfa Romeo Tubulare Zagato 1600 , also a quite rare and valuable collector car these days. Also: a red Ford Cortina Lotus and a BMW 1800TiSA and a Fiat 600 TCR1000 Abarth . And lots of Porsches ofcourse.
Yes, great observations. In 1969 I paid $7,500 for the 4-year old 275GTB (they were $11,000 new), which sounds cheap today but at the time I could have almost bought two brand new Corvettes for what I paid for the Ferrari, so not exactly cheap. At the sports car races you saw such a variety of cars all racing together, not like today with strictly defined classes and Balance of Performance rules to keep the performance equal across many makes. Thank you for watching!

Could have, would have, should have.... Okay, so if you had shot all of this footage on French-made SUPER 16mm cameras (in the 1.66:1 native European widescreen aspect ratio), you could have easily upscaled it to UHD 4K in the 1.78:1 AR and the results would have been far superior. Regular 8mm was the worst narrow film gauge ever.
Yes, I know, but this was 1967, I only had access to my friend's little 8mm movie camera which I borrowed. I also would have liked to upgrade my inexpensive Yashica Twin-Lens Reflex camera for a Hasselblad, but couldn't afford that. I did the best I could with what I had and I'm glad that I at least have those memories on film.
Very cool! Cheers from Sweden!
Wow, all the way from Sweden! Tack för att du tittade.
To be at that place, during that time, with those machines and girls. God damn, that's living!
Boy oh Boy I sure miss those days🤔Girls coke a cola and hot rods 🤗😎 Drive in Burger joints (burger fries & a coke for you and your Chick 7 bucks) Hanging at the Beach
I met Brad Bunch in the mid-eighties and he was such a wonderful and enthusiastic guy. We were fortunate to have him as a resource. Great footage, this. Thank you for sharing.
Beautifully done, I could almost smell the high octane fuel through the music.
Great video, thanks.. brings back old days of driving my 63" Alfa Romeo spider through the Santa Cruz mountains.
would love to hear in depth story of your experience of owning and driving that Ferrari
Well, briefly, I owned that car for two years, 1969 to 1971, paid $7,500 for it from L.A. attorney Ed Niles. They were just used cars then, not collectibles. I was a test engineer at Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica at the time, and my apartment room mate Brad Bunch owned a '63 Ferrari Lusso, shown in the film. He was an attorney working in a bank in Beverly Hills. My GTB sold new for $11,000 in 1965 so had depreciated quite a bit when I bought it. The original silver paint would not hold a shine, was faded, so I painted it Giallo Fly yellow myself in my garage. The car was wonderful to drive, 280 HP, Ferrari's first 5-speed transmission, and it only weighed 2,550 pounds! Light, precise steering and a beautiful gated shifter. The V12 engine was magical, that crisp, throaty sound only a 12-cylinder can make. I sold it to buy a Formula-B race car and a Chevy Impala Wagon to go SCCA road racing. I have owned 112-vehicles in my lifetime, I am now 81 years old. Thanks for watching my movie.
@@kartkingeric thanks for taking the time to share details!
Very nice to see the roads I drive on now 50 years ago. Thank you for sharing the footage.
The footage of the road races in Santa Barbara is epic, I was just a little kid back then, but they would run the races at the airport.
Eric, thanks for a great video collage of great Ferraris, your images evoke many memories of California and cars for me. Hopefully the musical copyright gods don't take down your magnificent video and period music. This effort reminds me of the amazing transcendental beauty of California, and additionally reminds me of the joyful, playfulness of the film, "Endless Summer". Your dedication of the film to your Dad, Edwin, is truly touching. You, Eric, have a achieved a masterpiece. Cheers.
Thank you so much for the very nice compliments! I purchased all the music on Amazon Digital and RUclips approved it all with the exception that due to the one Beatles song, Drive My Car, the movie cannot be viewed in Russia or Belarus. I'm very pleased that you enjoyed the movie. The playfulness came from my friends just goofing around and I left most all of the raw footage, didn't try to "tidy it up" as I would on most movies. I had very little film to work with so I left it all in, flashes of light, burned frames, and poor lighting. Call it "patina".
Awesome footage! Wonder how these places look now, probably overdeveloped 😅
great stuff thanks
Eric, should've named you Epic! Incredible, thank you for the video and soundtrack 😎👍
Thank you for the nice compliments, and I'm very pleased that you enjoyed the movie. I have a sweatshirt from my local Fitness Connection gym that just says E P I C in large black capital letters, so I just added a little leg to the P with a felt marker and made it an R, so now my sweatshirt says E R I C. My little inside joke.
Hello I have this same stereo but my cassette won't go all the way in. When I insert it it doesn't go all the way in. I don't know why. Any suggestions?
Sorry, no suggestions. I had mine professionally refurbished so everything worked, I later sold it on eBay.
What variant of grill are you using?
The grille is from an 1994 Oldsmobile Bravada which is based on the Chevy S10-Blazer. Thanks for watching.
Real monster
That is my old car - I bought it in1976- it wasn't that old - but it only last 6 months because the timing chain jammed! I got it for $150. I guess it couldn't handle the cold winters in Cleveland!
I saw this for sale in CA for 5000😮

Said to see all these all cars and trucks leaving the United States why can’t we just keep them here and enjoy them
I doubt there are very many large trucks like this being sent overseas! First of all it is too wide to fit in a ocean container so we had to cut 1-ft. off the sides of the bed on each side so that it would fit in a container. Notice the cutoff sides in the bed. Secondly, it's very expensive to ship
@@kartkingeric Antique truck rescue sends them overseas all the time it’s heartbreaking to see all these nice old trucks leaving the United States
Sounds like a compression leak, or maybe it needs a muffler? Like the VIDEO thanks
can you not use that amp and use a modern amp? would need to figure out the left and right channel signal and do a rca jack on them?
I don't know if that would work. I kept it all original and sold the radio on eBay.
Peace be upon you. I have a question. Is this multi-speed product slow or fast?
Do you sell it? Need it for 1972 Ferrari GTC/4
So, it's an independent rear suspension
Hechas para la chinga . Made for work .
That is not a 350 transmission!
You're right, I checked the shop manual and these early front wheel drive Eldorados, 1967-76, used a 3-speed Turbo-Hydra-Matic 425 (THM425) transaxle. I updated the description.
I think later model transmissions were designated as THM 325 but I advise checking a service manual for the model year in question. I use to write the service manuals for the 1980 and up models.
@@SLJ2137694 The engine and transaxle was from a '74 Cadillac Eldorado. The transaxle has the word "Turbohydramatic" cast in it, but not the model number, at least that I could find. My Chilton manual for Cadillac 1967-89 states that the early model transaxles for Eldorados, 1967-76 used a THM425. I have a '70 Cadillac Eldorado engine/transaxle that I will eventually put in the truck, it's a high compression, higher horsepower engine that the '74.
@@kartkingeric you have a fun project. I’ll bet the performance is outstanding. Stick with the 425 trans, they are tough! Build up a performance Cad engine, lots of info on line.
Not alot of room for hauling
Yea but you saw the trx he needs a lot of power to haul that back home
Do you still have it
Yes, I still have the truck. Thanks for watching.
Ugly truck
Your a moron, keep your negative comments to yourself. You probably drive a bucket 😂
You are never gonna believe this... I saw your truck yesterday here in England!!! Came here looking for a video of one and saw the same truck! Still has the same "paint job", that's how I've recognise it! Got the photos to prove it!
Hello Paulo. That is amazing, what a story! What a coincidence to see the truck in England! Thanks so much for writing. I wonder if it's still owned by the lady that bought it to use around her "ranch" with horses. I don't remember the town but I think it was not too far north of London.
Hello can you help me set mines up
