You can not only see the love that you put into your projects, but you can feel it as well. As always, it's simply amazing! I'd leave it in its natural state and seal with a satin clear.
Mick, Thank you for that. Specifically what you said about the editing. I never know how well I get the flow down and you just answered that question. Thank you for the kind words and thank you for watching!!
You say your first coffee table like it was simple. I can’t imagine the skill and time and experience that you’ve got built up with these amazing machines. Simply put..amazing. As to finishing it. I think that’s a question for your daughter. See what the favorite is…but if she doesn’t know the table is coming even better. Just not black.
Nice work! Really enjoyed watching your process of using the digital fabrication equipment. We would make our own oil/varnish finish back in the day. If you haven't finished your table and still looking for suggestions, hands down, Emmets Good Stuff Wood Finish is the best finish available. Several coats, and you can build up a beautiful finish.
Great work!! Your design came out wonderfully. I've used a CNC router for a long time and only recently acquired a laser cutter & engraver. I use both, but the newness of the laser gives me excitement thinking about creative ways to use it. Your coffee table project is a great example of creative use of advanced tools. I'm sure your daughter will love the table no matter what finish you use. I personally would just use a clear-coat. Just a thought, try using down-cut end mills. They leave the top of the cut nice and clean and with the dust extraction you have in place, dust buildup in the cut shouldn't be a problem.
That's a lovely looking table fella, can't beat handmade gifts, sure she will treasure that - and thanks for putting up the vid showing the stages how it all came together. Just jealous of all your machines though from my small garage in the UK ;)
Genuinely lovely and wonderful. Perhaps finish the wood with boiled linseed oil or bees wax. That way the complexity of the mandala is contrasted by the understated finish of the rest.
Nice work! It was nice seeing you at the Coastal Craftsman guild and happy to find your channel and follow you. This is a cool project and now I understand it a lot better than from the one photo. See you soon, Mike M.
That mandala is gorgeous! I'd just give it a satin clear coat and let the piece speak for itself. My go to is lacquer, but I know some folks don't like working with it.
Beautiful piece. I would still use Rubio in Cotton White oil2c. It would bring out the natural grain in it. May I ask how long the rotary took to make a leg? Thanks
You are the 3rd person to recommend the Rubio White. I am leaning to that as well. Thank you for the recommendation! All in all, including finish sanding it took about 1.5 hours to make 1 leg. I could probably get that time down with a better routine. Thank you for watching!
you always do good work. Just a note, I have a 4x8 vacuum table with twin bag collection that has only been used 5 times for sale if you are interested
Thank you! Each leg took about 1.5 hrs each to complete. I could probably get that time down to an hour if I were to develop a routine. Total time on the machine was about 45 minutes. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching!
Markus, For your comment to hold any weight and/or merit with me, I'm gonna need you to send me photos and videos of you building this exact table, or even one remotely similar to it. You can build it by hand or by using a CNC machine. And if you do, you have my word as a gentleman that I will show your project in one of my next videos giving you full credit for it and shower you with accolades. I dare you to do it. Otherwise, I will consider you an internet troll that has nothing better to do than to post derogatory comments about subjects that you have absolutely no knowledge of or the capability of doing yourself. Because it's been my experience than a true creator/woodworker shows respect to anyone who takes the time to create something positive and it wouldn't even enter their mind to say something like you just did, regardless of the method they used to create it. Have a nice day! :)
Just my $0.02, finish it with Danish Oil. The color would closely match the art inside the plexi. I love the look of it. How does the feel of the plexiglass stack up to the look of the table? I don't mean to criticize anything you've done here as it looks great, I was just wondering why you didn't use glass. Also, thank you for the great video. I'm new here and will be following.
Thank you for the suggestion! And you ask a valid question about the glass. Using glass was actually my first thought but several factors led me to the acrylic. Firstly, the tempered glass pane I would have needed for this size was about 5 times the cost of the acrylic sheet and put me way over budget. Glass would also have been twice as heavy, and it's already pretty heavy as it is now. And lastly, though I know my kid would do her best to take care of it, I feared that one Friday night party and one rambunctious person showing off their new dance moves would have led to a giant crack down the surface of the glass top. I figured the acrylic would be more resilient in a 20 something's living room. Lol. When she's older and settled down in a more permanent home, I wouldn't think twice about building her something of better quality. Thank you for watching!
@@MandSWoodworks well, it looks wonderful and thank you for sharing. I hope your daughter enjoys it. Sorry to keep bothering you but, I've beenn looking for a CNC machine and the one you have looks amazing. What is that? Points for affiliate links. You do great work and deserve the clicks.
@@davidferguson7403 Thank you! I have what could be considered the Onefinity Elite. I upgraded the standard machine to the Masso controller myself. Unfortunately, I'm not an affiliate but I do have a link to their site in the description of this video. Again, thank you for the kind words!
I don't sell very much stuff so I haven't really done the math on how much I might would charge, but I can tell you what I have invested in it... The acrylic sheet cost me $100, the ply totaled about $100, and the wood, other materials and hardware was just south of $100. So $300-ish dollars, and about 20 hours of work. I could probably shave a couple of hours off of that if I got a routine down. Not a definitive answer to your question, but I hope that it helps. Thank you for watching!
I am sure I posted this last week…the mysteries of missing YT posts. I have seen a few layer projects that used mawoodshop files. She is on another platform selling. Not sure if she does custom work, but what she has posted is pretty spectacular.

You really crushed this. My daughters move into an apartment in a week and I just finished a lamp for them. I felt this build.
Thank you sir!!
Nice job your a true craftsman. Also the manner in which you edit your video is just as detailed as your builds. Your one talented guy!!!

spectacular work. i really enjoyed the video. personally i think a dark finish would make the top really pop.

Lacquer is actually my 2nd choice of finishes after Rubios. It's definitely and option for this!!
Btw...
I don't know if you noticed, but I used a lot of Milo Scott magic in my rotary operation. :)

Incredible! Love This!
Great coffee table!
Amazing ❤ work
Beautiful piece.
Maybe go with a simple and classic danish oil and soap finish?
Some kinda nice coating
Thank you for the profound recommendation, Mike!

You should send it to me so I can provide an in depth analysis and figure out the perfect solution. LOL that’s a mighty fine piece there.

I would use a finish that leaves the maple as natural as possible. Rubio Natural or a clear satin poly/lacquer should work.

No, I haven't.
Do it by hand and you have my respect. I respect woodworkers but draw the line at CNC.
