I agree that both parties have their issues, but let's not pretend they're equally bad. Republicans have zero policy & are currently focused on taking rights away from women &suppressing the votes of anybody they think will vote against them.
I think ppl are putting too much faith in recent polling. The methods of polling that we currently have don't accurately represent the country. They still tend to do them by landline, which most younger voters just don't use, anymore. Even if they tried doing it by cellphone, ppl don't usually answer numbers they don't recognize.
Online polling usually allows for multiple votes by the same person & they're susceptible to bot voting.
That's why polls have been so wrong for the past decade, or so.

The Democrats win the popular vote for the presidency but those winning votes are discarded because of the electoral college / states control of the counting of the votes and assign the majority winner in that state the electoral votes the state has been assigned. Thus the state votes the presidency win and not the popular vote. The founding fathers designed a populist vote for all elections except one, and that one is the presidency and is reserved for the states governing body. Thus , we are a Republic when it comes to the presidency and a democracy for every thing else. Good/Bad this is the solution the founding fathers arrived at. The Change of the Republican Party with the change of the Democratic party under L.B.J. presidency and the equal right voting act that gave a level field to the Black vote. The Republican party found a platform "racisms" and a devoted white voting block that worshiped at the alter. Trump found that same voting block and is still beating that drum.

Also, anyone in their right mind should be concerned because if Trump is allowed to walk free from his crimes then what will the next person elected to office be expecting to walk away from. This is not just about Trump it's about the GOP wanting to lower our standards to allow criminals. When Trump promised to drain the swap. "Has my candidate got a good track record of voluntary public service?" "Does my candidate place the well-being of the people first!"

And Trump's "playbook" appeals to them by "siding" with them as he knows the "hot button" issues and his ability to "boldface" lie. And as far as the "experts" opinions are poll-based and hind sighted.

Your observations are correct. The classic opposition between workers and businesses is muddled by descriptions with meanings that have drifted through misunderstanding. The "new" coalition is temporary, as always, in history. It can only be sustained with falsehoods. It is a common political delusion; free enterprise is always a threat to established capitalism, which is another aspect to the same current operational dynamic. The Confederate flavor of Republican tactics is an extension of de facto wage slavery, that evolved since 1865. In order to pay rent and buy food, freed slaves were still dependent on the same property owners. More competition among providers of both goods and services always helps everyone. Wage slaves of 2023 now represent diverse cultural backgrounds. The impersonalization of 2023 media and the "new" computerized communications environment have introduced new tools to isolate, influence and control impressions of reality. Nevertheless, as long as a majority of Americans use their heads and can vote, the benefits of democracy should prevail. Most people can recognize corruption and understand the practical benefits of freedom, honesty and careful compromise. Most people have a lifetime of experience with self-possessed, vocal, egocentric, incompetent and ineffective humans. When they are intractable, they must be ignored, not elected. Everyone's most valuable asset is time.

We see this sort of thing happening in many mature democracies.
One party has a traditional base, that party starts taking the support of that base for granted, stops talking to that base or having policies that appeal to that base and then becomes surprised when the base drifts away from the party.
The problem comes when the traditional base is not enough to win elections and it becomes necessary to appeal to a much broader set of voters, often that involves policies that the traditional base find hard to stomach.
There is no easy answer to this, you could even argue that it is as inevitable as the turning of the seasons. But one thing is clear from around the world, politicians who need to bring their traditional base with them, even when all the policies are not ideal for that base, need to spend a lot of time amongst the traditional base, talking to them and not stuck in the halls of power

Dana actually corrected him and kept him honest a couple of times. One example: he implied Democrats don't care about securing our borders at all. She pointed out that Democrats want our existing asylum laws upheld. Offering asylum has always been a cornerstone of our democracy, not even a Republican or Democrat thing, it was an American thing to offer it. The interview subject talks about radicalism amongst Democrats. Well, okay, let's look at that. It's the radical right that's trying to take away women's rights, ban books, and impose religious beliefs onto our political system, which was designed not to be religious, but support freedom of religion. Big difference between freedom of religion and trying to impose one's religion on others. He says so vociferously how much he'd LOVE to come back and talk back more. It helps him sell books, yes. Lastly, I'd point out it's pretty radical to normalize the presidential run of a man who incited hatred and violence. Also he seemed to do a pretty good job of painting the entire Democratic Party as one big monolith, certainly by implication. There are many different voices within the party, some more liberal, some more moderate, just as you can't paint the entire GOP as a monolith. Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney being prime examples.

While the right wing on both sides of the Atlantic are more anti immigration, in America it makes them hypocrites because they falsely claim it to be the conservative position.
In much of Europe, borders are about the most open they've been in a long long time. You could drive to Portugal, then to Estonia, without having to pass through a single border checkpoint.
But in America, the borders are more closed than they have ever been. Refugees are turned away or locked away; people who used to cross the Rio Grande regularly to get to/from whatever place they worked, now can't let their grandchildren do the same; and illegally crossing the border has become the most harshly enforced misdemeanor in the country. It's a love of a past that never existed; it is fear of the foreigner, in a country that was built on waves of immigration.

    • @burntorangehorn

If it weren't for them, literally everything would be more expensive, especially food and construction. Once you understand that undocumented immigrants aren't actually eligible for the kind of social safety net that immigrants often get in Europe, you realize it really does boil down to racism here.

Pointing out that the aversion of most Democratic policy being that it’s racism, is undercut by the reality, that the issue is that the issue is the way to actually control immigration in a tactful way. President Fatass stripped migrant kids from their families, and even that didn’t stop it. We also know that illegal immigration isn’t limited to the southern border. So that leaves one asking the question: What is it that is the issue beyond that? The Republican Party: Has no plan for helping Americas to gain health insurance or lower the cost. Historically end Presidencies in a recession. Are not the best at job creation. Have policies that often result in eliminating rights, or halting progress in other ways. It amazes me the number of members of the minority communities that say they don't like the way Trump is being treated and are voting for Trump based on that fact alone. The Democrats and the media may just be responsible for Trump's re-election if this keeps up.

I've always been a moderate independent voter and vote for what I think is the best candidate. HOWEVER... I will for the first time ever vote a completely blue ticket. Not only do I think Trump is a clear and present danger to our democracy... I am disgusted by the GOP politicians that have supported him despite all the disgusting things he's done. It will take a long time before I will vote for a republican candidate again and it will have to be one that admits that Trump has been in the wrong.

How do you figure that after 43 years 1980-2023 of Reaganomics Republican and moderate democrats failed tax break giveaways to the richest 1% and corporate America. Over 32 tillion dollars plus two corporate America taxpayer baiouts. At the expense of American infrastructure rebuilding blue collar middle class workers and the working class poor. Minimum wage over this 43year 1980-2023 period only 7.25hr. America's national debt 34 trillion dollars. Moderate democrats like democrats West Virginia senator Joe Manchin and Arizona senator Kristen Sinema voting with the Republican party to continue tax breaks to the rich is a disgrace to America's working class.
