AMA with our DM Neal - / rollplay_week_21_qa
RollPlay is a weekly Dungeons and Dragons 2.5E campaign with iNcontroL, LivinPink, Ryan Moore, and JP McDaniel with Dungeon Master Neal Erickson (SC2 Ratings).
All graphic work is from Daniel Weijden.
If you have any suggestions for show please let me know. I'd love to have fun with the production.
It seriously never occurred to anyone that a party of renowned giant and dragon slayers would be permitted to cleanse a tainted temple except Abigael? And everyone shot it down?
I think they should have tried persuading the guards into letting them in, promising they'd try to destroy the evil within and not to steal anything (telling them they can search them on the way in and out).
Then on their way back, they could just grab the ring, make JP cast invisibility and keep the ring saying that he died a horrible death inside.
And yet again Abigaël has the best ideas but gets mocked for them and ignored because she's Abigaël.
500 chars is not enough to express how much I love this show!!
That's good stuff, though instead of going Ghostbusters, I'd say that after creeping them out they should do the invisible thing and lift the bar on the door while Abi pretends to be a voice from inside shrieking something like, "Run, fools, or meet your doom!" And as someone else suggested, the minotaur's rod could be helpful. Though I think I recall Neal saying the terror effects are permanent, so I'd personally have an issue using it on the guards, but I'm sure this party wouldn't. :P
I'm in the same boat. Vincent is a prince, and has a group of seasoned soldiers that could likely clear whatever is in the tomb. I feel they should have had him just ask in case they said yes. Unlikely, but still a possibility.
Hmm, maybe go around giving some coin to the beggars to spread rumours about the haunted crypts becoming more active. Could also use invis on the thief and throw a voice to get the guards going. Could also use invis and do some scary stuff in town. Then as the pressure mounts (they did want to keep the whole thing secret) on the mayor (use the time to relearn spells), show up and ask if a dungeon needs cleaning! ??
It occurs to me that Abigael could have thrown her voice, pretended to be Felumbra and commanded the worshipper to create a distraction, then they could simply slip in using invisibility and the guards wouldn't know until they were already inside. ;)
I was waiting for someone to mention some kind of distraction tactic. :D I'm glad Bregor finally did.
I would like to see a bit more of the Captain Obvious Questions:
Hmm could we go in by the Balcony?
Do they leave and lock the outer door at night so we can wait invisibly?
15:00 That was Neals way of saying "There's another entrance" but Geoff didn't pick up on it.
i would have spent a couple days here, going invisible and throwing their voices around the crypt. that way, the Guards are spooked for 2 days straight, so then they can show up and offer to clear the place out :)
Neal told them there was another way in, the lookout which leads back behind the doors.
If It had been me I would have been very honest and forth coming with what I was there for and what needed to be done. Then again if I were Prince Longborn I'd have just said I'd traveled a far ways to visit one of the tombs of my ancestors. If asked from there I could say that I needed to retrieve an important artifact for my kingdom.
She doesn't, unless someone points to her what to copy and what not to. Someone could write the letter for her and then ask her to copy the signature or something. Or she could copy words from the original text if someone points them out and then reorder the words to have another meaning. Maybe she could produce new words by copying specific letters, but someone would definitely need to help her with it. It's more difficult but not impossible.
'Hey, let us in so we can loot a dead body of a king that you swore your life to protect.'
The problem is that if they ask the captain and he says no, then when the crypt gets raided the next day it's going to be pretty clear who did it.
"I can forge documents but I ...can't write." ABIGAEL PLEASE!
well silver dragons are incredibly nice to humans/other races and love to eat with them talk to them and even live with them. They are known to protect those they consider friends. So the fact that they are helping one isn't too bad, if it was a gold dragon it would have killed them on the spot for slaughtering the guards idea.
I feel like they should have asked to see the guard captain and asked if they should clear out the crypt.
That's a really good idea! I didn't even think of that
They should have said prince long born has come to pay respects to his ancestor
Gen definitely rode the short bus.
Exactly on time, thx jp!
yeah. there are times when neal hands them the answer and they dont notice.
JP should have just made the 2 inner guards go to sleep. Simple.
I was thinking that from the beginning and it bugged the hell out of me when they brought up their other plans over and over
she copies the pattern on another piece of paper, it works the same way as forging a painting she'll try to make an exact replica of what's infront of her
idk what they will wish for but i would ish for full control of time at will (with out any concisenesses like speed up ageing or growing younger etc)
then become a god :3
Not sure about Niels homebrew world, but most D&D settings got a contingency against just time control and time travel. A race of powerful beings who travel the planes of existance to make sure noone messes with time called the inevitables.
Wishes while powerful unfortunatly got limitations in D&D.
You guys should make a DvD of this, I'm willing to be you would make a small profit from it selling in game stores.
Thank you
Hmm how about using the minotaurs baguette on the guards
That's the fun.
Maybe, but i don't think the guard would have let them do it.
I know this video is old, but how did the ring get in there if it have not been open for 100 years, and the ring were used to turn the dragon into a elf, but she said it was 30 years ago?
Also love this series
+Ikhammerhand The ring wasn't used to turn the dragon into an elf, she said a wizard did it to her. The ring is just a solution since it grants wishes.
Neal said the ring had only been used once by the king it was buried with.
The biggest fail here was the GM, He told them of a second entrance, oh 40 ish minutes ago, and was pointlessly/painfully strict on what goods they had or did not have. Good GM sees a good plan and shrugs off the inconvenient truth of them not coming up with the plan a week before and assumes they worked out the plan on the Ducking boat and have everything they need. "that's a good plan, of course you had it a month ago, and have put it in motion go ahead and roll" done, 10 minutes tops, not 2 hours.
I can see both sides of this because let's be honest for like the first 15 weeks her ideas were all pretty ridiculous so they are pretty used to that - however, yeah, her suggestion of Vincent trying to use his nobility in various ways wasn't terrible and certainly was better than anything he suggested.
I'd watch it.
I just realized something.
How the hell can Abigael forge a document, but not know how to read or wright?
they did make that suggestion themselves :P
Regarding time, yes. But if they just claim to be experience adventures, they can just look for one or two kings in the region and offer them the service to clear the crypt. I venture that at least one king is self-center enough to one to be bury with the legendary kings. They would gladly to sponsor a group of "idiots" to do the work. It will take time and effort, but they would not have to murder innocent and also earn some extra money and fame.
yeah i raged like half an hour why they dont try this it was quite painful to see this chapter planing this crappy plans
you are so right :)
I don't understand why everyone laughs at Abby and basically calls her dumb for actually thinking of ways to accomplish things, while the others sit there and basically go back to the same thing for everything money, killing, and the longhorn name.
Well, I thought the lord Fang joke was nice! : P
Why did seduction never come up in this video?
I really wish people Gen an ryan would stop letting Geoff dismiss their ideas so easily... they are usually the most sensible ones and its starting to get less fun and more frustrating. The good thing is i know that this Alpha male shit wont be happening in the 40k rollplay with TB and DJwheat there :)
HEY GUYS, SOMETHING IS WRONG DOWN THERE!
As per usual Geoff and party ignores it.
And the party of chaotic stupid adventurers continue...
More! :(
Yea forgot about that :P
awww yiiiss
woot you the best
she could actually. forgery is just copying someone elses writing. it may just look like shapes to her. but she can do it.
and nothing happened...
Quiet please im trying to watch rollplay
Gen makes suggestions that had already been turned down...and makes them numerous times....only issue I have with her at this point.
Please, abby, for the most part, does nothing for the benefit of her party, she acts pretty silly sometimes, doesn't mean shes dumb, it just means that they are conditioned to not take her very seriously sometimes.
Yet you only used like 60 in that comment :P
Neal is even sexier.
So she's just copy and pasting? Then how does she know what to write?
bet-
I bet even you can draw hieroglyphs if you are shown what they look like. You don't need to understand them.
That is disappointing. I mean come on, party whole this time was bealding reputation, and instead to claim they came to purge evil... . Oh well.
Dmit 28 min spent on standing around some scripts
it's not even the Alpha male it's a 16 teen year old high school kid with an abusive father thingy. Gen and Ryan are just to mature to react.
Neil is a sexy beast.
I wish Abigael would have less brilliant ideas.
K I want to see everyone's faces I'm actually super annoyed with looking at the top of Geoff's head.
Because 90% of what she says is pretty silly
