@@DezBoyle actually since you're still actively responding to people when I flash the keyboard with the files from the description I noticed that FN + X does not work as the function to close the lights of the KB. Do you know if the shortcut is another button or does it not exist in the bin file provided?
THANKS SO MUCH, I'VE HAD A DROP ALT FOR A LITTLE MORE THAN A YEAR BUT COULD NEVER SUCCESSFULLY CHANGE THE LIGHTS OF MY KEYBOARD, YOUR VIDEO FINALLY HELPED ME DO IT!!!!!!!
You're awesome! I was having the error where the device wasn't being detected and all the literature that I was reading online wouldn't work. I came across your video by pure chance and your solution of enabling the auto-download for the device installation worked (after I restarted the com). Thank you so much!
managed to kneecap myself by loading in a config without a second layer and couldn't figure out how else to reset the keyboard without the fn+B shortcut, so thanks for mentioning that reset pin on the back. saved me a lot of headache.
Hmm. This made my RBG stop working completely. I fixed it by flashing it with Drop's official firmware though. Saving your RBG settings after unplugging should been a no brainer. Dunno what Drop was thinking.
WOWW, EXCELENTE AMIGO... ME FUNCIONO. TENÍA MESES INTENTANDO AGREGAR UNA CAPA CON EL NUMPAD PARA QUE ME FUNCIONE EL CÓDIGO ASCII, Y GRACIAS A TÍ LO LOGRE. MUCHAS GRACIAS POR TOMARTE EL TIEMPO, YA QUE NO HAY MUCHA INFORMACIÓN EN ESPAÑOL, PERO TU EXPLICACIÓN EN EL VIDEO FUÉ EXCEÑENTE. GRACIAS.
If I had a custom keyboard configuration already (such as remapped keys via QMK), does this mean that I'd lose that config? Great tutorial by the way -- visuals were clear, audio wasn't scuffed, and talking was concise and to the point EDIT: for anyone doing it now who wants remapped keys, QMK has EEPROM built in! What this means is that you can follow the steps in this video, but instead of flashing the .bin from the Github link, you can flash your own custom one from the QMK Configurator tool and that'll work just as well!
I tried doing this, but the LEDs were not persistent upon reboot. Is there a special keyboard you have to pick in the QMK configurator or something, or will just the normal massdrop/alt one work for you? Edit: I was using an older .bin that I had compiled over a year ago. Not sure if QMK got EEPROM added between then and now, but that is my suspicion. I recompiled the .json source and tried the new .bin and LEDs persisted upon unplug/replug.
Are the default rgb profiles different after completing this? I did as followed and it enabled smarteeprom, but I have no idea how to configure the rgb (Teal and Salmon) back to what I wanted it to be.
My cmd prompt is telling me "mdloader_windows.exe : unknown option, and then lists a bunch of commands i dont need. Ive already customized my keyboard once using this exact tutorial, I dont know why its giving me problems now
The default drop mdloader (v1.06+) should work fine now. So I just flashed the default FW included with nicoelayda's release (massdrop_alt_default-smarteeprom.bin) and that gave me: "SmartEEPROM: Configuring............. Success!" After that I just flashed my custom FW from the drop configurator and it's now working fine with SmartEEPROM enabled :)
i really hope you can respond to this but when i type in all the "mdloader" stuff it says that its not recognized as a internal or external command, please help
At 0:48 when you pressed the tab above the folders and copied and pasted it, then when I tried to do it was well it didn't work and idk if am doing something wrong also am on windows 11 with a drop alt rn so if you can help me that would be great.
If you cant copy it, just type the directory out by hand c:/Users/YOUR_USERNAME/Downloads replace YOUR_USERNAME with your exact username. If you don't know what it is, just open file explorer, go to your hard drive and look for your name under your 'Users' folder.
Hey, thanks for the tutorial! If I want to create a custom LED configuration on the Drop Configurator, will that overwrite what you did in this video? Like, can I do the smartEEPROM firmware flash, THEN do the drop configurator flash? Or am I stuck choosing between the two?
No problem. I'm pretty sure that would override the smartEEPROM unfortunately. I'm certain it would be possible but I don't know enough about QMK to know how.
I was thinking the same thing, except in the opposite order, so I already have the custom LED config on my keyboard and was then going to try doing the smartEEPROM but I'm scared it will override it so...
I have everything typed out correct it looks like but it tells me error: parser: file is empty error: could not parse file. everything else says success and there's no problem. I don't understand what the issue is as I just downloaded the config from drops website and there is definitely something in the file anyone else experiencing this or did and can help? I just want to use my rbg on a 200 dollar keyboard this sucks
Hi Dez thanks so much for this as Ive been looking for a step by step since march, Ive followed this tutorial and it work as originally I did not have anthing written to the eprom as it was a new Drop ctl, I got no help from Drop at all as all I wanted to do was change the default colour on the Drop configurator for Pattern 5 from green to orange on both layers. Do you have any info on how to do this? sorry should of said can i do this through the QMK Toolbox?
The timestamp to skip the troubleshooting is wrong. It should actually say Skip to 3:06
You don't understand how much of a headache this has saved me from my keyboard acting broken. This video deserves more likes.
Aye thanks! Good to hear

Bro just got my ALT today and this video saved me much headaches thanks a bunch...
Fantastic, way more clear than the github instructions thank you!
Just picked up a CTRL with Halo True for £80. This helped me tremendously.

mine still says no device found!
May I know all the FN shortcuts of this firmware?
does one of these firmware updates exist for the Drop Shift? Seems to be an issue on all their keyboards :/

holty same problem.... the default profiles are literally gone idk what these new colors are
they are cool tho... I just wanna know how to get back the original profile
@@namjoonkim114 Did you ever figure out how to change rgb after enabling smarteeprom
@@michaels3385 nope
Heh figured it out sort of. With the new firmware, FN + T and FN + G control white balance

So I take it this specific fork (nicoelayda/mdloader) is the one that persists RGB settings after unplugging the keyboard?
genius !!
thanks man

make sure the file name youre typing in the command is the same as the filename of the config you downloaded from drops website

I haven't used the configurator & I dont have any experience with QMK so i don't know
so many steps, little intimidating, might leave it for now
