Minecraft 1.17: Pickaxe Update
Pickaxe vs armor when?
Too easily deflected, I suppose, unlike a hammer or mace.
Me: *Why don't you use a wirebrush to remove the rust instead of the sander?*
Skall: Switches to Handwirebrush
Me: *I ment an automatic one*
Skall: Switches to that Dremel
Me: "Are you kidding me!" -_-
How much does a pickaxe at the hardware store cost? Hard to imagine that restoring a old one is worth it.
About its use as a weapon: Yes, certainly far from ideal, but I got the feeling you are looking at it from a purely "zombie apocalypse - having to hit the head"-perspective.
I think the unwieldiness becomes less of a problem when you have a whole body as a viable target, doesn't it? A torso is a lot easier to hit than a head and a horizontal, arching swing is not as easy to dodge as a vertical one.
Interest/monetization of the restoration video footage more than makes up for the time/effort.
I pity the fool who tries to block the horizontal swing with a sabre.
@@RandoBox But do you think that any less people would have watched the video if he just would have bought a new pickaxe?
@@TrangleC - Easy way to gauge interest in flee market finds/restorations/etc also.
I think it's better for execution rather than using it as a weapon
I don't now about you, Skall, but I wouldn't want to be walloped around the head with a pickaxe! Or any part of my body in fact!
@Dieter Gaudlitz You are correct. I definitely wouldn't want to be hit by a piano. Saw that one in an ASDF movie back in the day.
Thats if it can hit you
Minecraft irl: *skall proceedes to talk about pickaxes and shovels*
Me: "You do know that not a single player would use a pickaxe or a shovel when they likely have a sword in their hotbar, right?" xD
It takes too much effort to stop the momentum? Don't!
Spin to win xD
You know what Skal thinks about spin moves.
Oh man, throwback to that old zombie channel with all those ballistic heads.
Having seen someone 'executed' via pickaxe, deflection is less of an issue than you assume.
Weiße Wölfin execution and combat aren’t really the same
Not saying they are (though when the guy is moving around that much, they are somewhat closer than you may think), just saying that deflection is really not a big deal like he's thinking from this test.
I agree the pickaxe is a horrible weapon, but its the tool we use to puncture the toughest of materials. Giving it a decent sharpening would make it the weapon most suitable to puncture armor. Obviously still not ideal for battling someone with armor, but I wonder skal, what do you think is the best weapon most suitable for puncturing armor?
Pickaxe is indeed horbile weapon, but lets ask this: Pick or fists?
edit: reading the desc, yes shovel is far better, and probably easier to get your hand into one
Ash Trash pick.
Edit: just finished watching. Still picking pick. I am awful at dodging.
Pick. Even if it can only be effectively used at grappling distance - well, so are fists! Also pickaxe has basically two massive hooks, you can trip or grapple someone with it, not to mention if opponent has some sort of weapon, I'd rather parry with pickaxe than bare hands.
@@alextrill5829 pick has mass behind it, even if you miss hit, you can always drop it and continue with fists. you could also "stab" with it, even if doesnt have tip, its still lump of metal hitting someone. i dont understand skall saying he would rather be unarmed.
So a great zombie killer since zombies mindlessly stand there
Hey Ivan
S H O V E L T I M E
The handle makes a better weapon by itself than the pick does.
Yo
That shovel hit sound was the best. I don't know why I enjoyed it so much.
Yeah, I'll stick to large hedge clippers as an improvised zombie weapon.
Just take a little off the top?
@@JonPITBZN No, HEDGE clippers, the giant ass scissors you use to cut through trees and bushes that are powerful enough to sever a limb and long enough to stab into a zombie's head.
@@K4RN4GE911, it's a reference to Zombieland.
@@JonPITBZN Oh yeah, when they're in the supermarket. Sorry, my bad.
If you're interested, there's a new game with fairly interesting combat mechanics called Exanima that doesn't rely on standard attack animations and weapon stats, using your character's movements, point of aim, etc. to determine damage.
I think you might enjoy it for its more realistic combat and I'd love to see you give it a try.
Seemed like it worked pretty good
Zombie head : * LITTERALLY EXPLODES *
Skall: ...see the neck is complitely broken
Skall is more prepared for Zombie apocalypse than me in 20 years
Poor zombie head.
At least he has his modeling career.
The resting head on the snow got me. Got me good
If the zombie apocalypse happens skall and gun jesus will be the only actual survivors XD
"A pickaxe is a terrible weapon."
Grave Robber from Darkest Dungeon: *so you have chosen death.*
An unbreaking III, fortune pick is the wrong tool for this.
You should use either a sword or an axe against a zombie.
Axes can be enchanted with smite. A smite V diamond/netherite axe should oneshot a zombie on crits.
that’s why if a zombie apocalypse happens, first thing I’m doing is getting myself a pickaxe, since their ridiculously deadly
skall: "you are looking a bit ... deshovled"
SCP CRITICAL TOMATOES: *lightspeed YEETS a tomatoe at skall*
Sword: cuts a bit
Pickaxe: cracks skull
Shovel: absolutely demolishes head
if the target falls on the ground it’s the perfect weapon to finish it off with a devastating blow like mining a rock
In the trench warfare of world war 1, Soldiers often used their entrenching tool (basically a shovel) in close in combat over their bayonets.
This is why we watch you, Skal
I always thought a square head spade with sharpened edges would do quite well in a whole zombie situation
I've been drinking a bit, just enough to get the warm and fuzzy feelings... but I laughed when he said "He Looks DeShoveled"
i see skall has chosen the way of the shovel knight, now he just has to find a enchantment table....
I really like the idea of reviewing random tool/flea market finds.
Wait so you are telling me my murders would have been faster if i didn't use a pickaxe ?
A restoration vid and a weapon test in one video? sweet.
I wonder what would happen if someone opens Skall's trashbag and sees a lot of destroyed heads
Never ever underestimate the power of the "buff miner".
so glad to see the arm fully healed
Never thought that a heavy pointy metal thingi will deal ALOT of dmg
Glad to see the Zombie heads again
