Considering the circumstances, that’s class from Wednesday. Even when my lot battered them 6-0 at Portman Road, many of them stayed to the end and chanted Danny Rohl’s name throughout the 90 mins
I started working at Hillsborough in December. I kept telling the fans and other staff that they were going to stay up. They mostly looked me like I was fkin mental, but I truly believed it. I could feel the Steel city derby happening, and I think the players really wanted it. On the odd occasion I tend to have a strong sense on certain things, and when that happens, it does. I'm not a betting man, but I had an overwhelming feeling that Bradford City was going to beat Millwall 4-0 and go on to play Chelsea. So I put a fiver on it and bought my kids an Xbox with the winnings. Work mates thought I was crazy for putting that bet on because they saw themselves as pros in the betting shops.
Don't worry, Hillsborough will be back to it toxic self next season when the promotion season and minor miracles are forgotten.
Three of those 13 away goals for Rotherham were against us at Ipswich, when they lost a 4-3 thriller. Credit to the fans that came for that mid week match when they were already doomed to relegation.
Sheff weds prob the best support I’ve seen come to loftus road
😂😂😂😂 yous don't sell out
Only 51 difference between Wednesday and Leeds. I would expect that for the majority of games, both sides sold out their full allocation
Amazing from my fellow Wednesday fans despite being in the bottom 3 for majoity of the season still had only a few hundred less from first place promotion contenders.
Not even that on average we had around 50 less away fans than Leeds
And Wednesday are a two club city too don’t forget
Ben, to get a true representation, you might consider the total distances travelled by each clubs fans and how many travelled those distances
We follow our team, wherever they are, wawaw
Which stand are you usually?
Plymouth were amazing at Cov, Tuesday night and a couple of thousand there
We would have taken more but clubs don't give enough tickets especially leeds
From a data perspective the thing that make this interesting is just Blackburn and Preston who will give clubs what they want really. Probably edges it to the northern teams. Ipswich took 4k to Blackburn but was a late Good Friday game for example. Might have been few thousand more on a Saturday which changes the average quite a bit. We sold out every allocation apart from those two
Yep, ticket allocation plays a part in away fans, if your club applies for more tickets home club decides yay or nay.
A percentage of the away ticket allocation would be a different way to rank teams.
Some clubs given waaay more than others, despite the initial allocation being sold out
💯
Leeds numbers would be much higher but the allocation in this league is a joke.
can say that for numerous clubs mate including mine, Sheff Wed. Numerous games we couldn't get tickets for, along with many others despite having high loyalty points. Managed about 40% of away matches but would have been about 80% if clubs gave bigger allocation
@@user-bq9rb5tp9j I'm sure we give about 10% so almost 4k but it's never filled.
So we end up altering it so the excess is filled by home fans.
Norwich for the first leg of the play offs gave us like 1.4k and they had loads of empty seats. Absolute joke.
@@spig3547 no mate. You gave us just over 2k. I managed to get to that game.
@@user-bq9rb5tp9j you didn't fill that.
@@spig3547 yes we did mate. Any empty seats were because we didn’t have tickets given for them. We can only sell what had been allocated
I had 5 family members who couldn’t get tickets.
Basically the top 6 sell out their allocation everywhere they go.
I would say the best fans we saw at Portman Road were the Coventry fans.
Surprised at Sheffield Wednesday's high position. Respect to anyone who follows their team away; without two sets of fans the atmosphere would be so different.
I’m not surprised at Wednesday, they’ve been class for years
Wednesday always loyal and loud, Look at us this Season, 23. in the Championship Most of the time this Season, still 26k average Home and every away Game a Sell out
Not surprised at all.
12:02 Across the water yea across the sky 🎶 😔 miss that old outro still great video Ben HD
Wednesday fans often receive fewer tickets at many clubs than are given to other away teams.
i think a column for % sell out of allocation would be useful also as a metric here.
I'm Ipswich,no suprise with Leeds. I would of thought Sunderland would of been higher though. But it all comes down to £!
Total respect for the Rotherham fans!
Would have, not would of. 👍
Green army
Definitely class from Wednesday who once you adjust for other factors like league position etc are probably number 1 here. Sunderland also worth a call out, as they have 3 disadvantages also of having the biggest stadium (allowing other well supported clubs a number boost to their average), as well as the obvious geographical and the appalling season that ended at Xmas with little to play for beyond that. Very fair shout out to Plymouth also, not that far behind the Saints despite having an even bigger geographical advantage, the Saints being Prem regulars for years and competing at the top end of the league.
Don't forget this was a promotion season after the miracles of the previous season. They will soon get back to their boring selves next season.
@@Eezablade1 quite possibly, they also had something to play for in pretty much every game of the season, which does help the numbers, as well as the promotion bounce, so whether they can sustain and even build on this for next season is the question, but sorry Leeds fans, Sheff Wed get the adjusted number 1 rank here. It would definitely be useful to have the % of allocation sold % though, as that is the best metric.
Good point re- Allowed allocations, I'm sure the top 5 or 6 clubs in this list would have even more away support were the tickets available.
another way of valuing the traveling (appreciating ?) support, The percentage who travel taken into account against the average home gate.
ie, Leeds would be very well represented along with Wednesday fans, as opposed to say Hull, Cardiff, Hudds. !
Sheff Wed. they are about a similar size to Leeds, but Sheffield has TWO clubs. Bristol compared to Hull etc etc.
Then sheer City populations, Suddenly Hudds are well supported in porportion to Leeds for instance.
Stand outs for me in this analysis,
PLYMOUTH & ROTHERHAM, That's loyal support.
As a Watford fan I'm happy with that considering it's the worst seasons we've had in a decade lol
11th. Argyle never get lots of away allocation tickets every away game the club asks for more but never happens wembley we took 36000 and still wanted more tickets perhaps clubs need to be fairer this season argyle would clearly take a minimum of 1500 fans every away game 😊
Exactly, I can never get away tickets because they don't offer enough of them to us! We'd be top 5 easy if they gave us the tickets
Away attendances are also affected by how many tickets the home team are willing to give them. If a home club thinks a large away following will cause trouble they’ll limit them to a lower number of tickets.
Are you able to add a metric for % of allocation sold? That would be useful also based on the comments.
Might be interesting to do the number of away fans as a percentage of their average home gate. Only if you get really bored one day 😂
By the way, Plymouth are not new to the Championship. And I hope we can solidify our position in the league for a few years going forward.
We're back where we belong, UTA! 💚
As a town fan I haven’t seen us win away since notts forest in 2021😂
The amount of people this list annoys simply because Leeds are top 😂😂
MOT
Plus Sheffield Wednesday is only 4 Miles away from SUFC
It’s the birthplace of football after all
Ironically the best I've ever heard the Boro away fans be was at Plymouth in that 3-3 draw
As a stoke fan , we prefer away games , our home record is pittyful
can tell, was only about 5000 fans at your ground when we played there
@@owenleaper21 then the same away lol , not top of the league so many wont pay 30 quid watch us play teams who are shite an near the bottom below us .
@@user-sw9ry3rg7u great mentality as a fan
to be fair England (plus Swansea and Cardiff) is not that huge and distances for travelling fans are are much smaller in compare to likes of France, Italy, Spain or Germany. I would say passion of fans, number of local rivalries, size of the club/city and form (placement in the league) has the key role in ranking. not distances
In terms of atmosphere, I’d say Middlesbrough are top
Course you would say that ‘boro fan’
Been the riverside & you need drums create a atmosphere without the drummer you lack it big time far from the best
I reckon Leeds better
@@football_clips1385 spot on Leeds travel in numbers , are loud & dont require musical instrument be heard , coming from a stokie . We've made more noise away than at home this season , hands over eyes at home this year 🤣
Ben, how many away games have you been to this season?
Plymouth away average is 2.144 dont know where you got your figures from???
It cant be right surely youve missed a zero at end of wednesdays
Considering how bad our season at Q.P.R I'd say that is a impressive away following.
Leeds Utd and Sheff Wed reduce visiting fan numbers by quite a bit at their own stadia!!
Wednesday don’t. If you can sell 5k tickets then you’ll get them
@@James-yy4vl utter bs your away end can't hold 5k you only give 4k at the very best .
Norwich’s attendances are embarrassing
Sheffield, football born and bred.
I'd love you to work out QPR's average after Ainsworth left. 😉
Why does everyone think Plymouth Argyle are new to the Championship, they were there 6 years from 2004 to 2010 and have played at the same level of div 2 numerous times and for long stretches in their history!
Sheffield Wednesday Best fans in England especially considering the last 25 years of mismanagement!
Our away following this season is pretty embarrassing tbh. I get we’ve been dreadful away all season but we should be having much higher numbers than that, it’s really poor
Shows how good Wednesday support is since we have been shit this year
Leeds fans don't have to travel, they live in every corner of the world 😂
So what though
🤣🤣
Probably got the highest number of away season ticket holders..
M.O.T.
The delusion of Leeds fans actually thinking they’re a top Prem size club is hilarious😂
@@OhNo.AnywayLastWeek.tell me you don't let your blind hatred of Leeds makes you type your shite comment. Clearly a millennial that knows nothing about the history of the game and the size and magnitude of Leeds united
Leeds fan definitely travel well, but they certainly know how to empty a ground quickly when they’re getting spanked 4-0 😂
I’m Not just saying it but it’s SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 💯 %
Other season while in league one they averaged more away fans than the championship the league above at the time
& in bottom 3 almost all season
He's made a mistake with wednesdays that's the average of how many coaches you take to away games I think
Biased I know but Blues away is class, over 2k with a relegation season and our away form being literally 3 wins all season. Our average wasn't helped either by playing Preston and Blackburn midweek and having 7k like teams around us.
Sunderland’s away following was higher than Leeds.
Good fan West Bromwich Albion next season in the championship West Bromwich Albion in the summer transfer window West Bromwich Albion in January transfer window West Bromwich Albion
Plymouth away fans are the best full Stop
Leeds fans travel of course but we are well supported wherever we go already... MOT ALAW
Southampton 7th we sell out every away game
7 teams in league 2 would have come above Rotherham 😂
Wrexham would have come above Norwich. 👏
Cardif are way over I went to qpr Huddersfield stoke Bristol w
Swansea and ik they were all sold out
Disappointed with the Bushwackers. Granted, no one likes them.
Leeds have poor attendance really . Biggest uk city with only one club. Should be 60000. But never have been West Ham fan base much better
Hard to fit 60K in a 36K stadium don't you thing ... do the math
Our capacity is only 36k , you were getting the same until you bagged the London stadium !
@@craigchadwick839Maths !
Sorry only 50 off
For got pne are well supported not
Leeds had the best away fan
😂😂garbage
What is his name, please?
Absolute rubbish Well it ain’t Leeds
you really don't like Stoke do you, 'CRAP'' teams below us were crap, Stoke Beat more top teams from our position in the league than most, be a bit more apathetic,
plz pin me
Stop grovelling, it’s embarrassing 🤣🤣🤣💚💚💚
@@leroyengland1777 Even as a City fan, I'm still kind of happy you stayed up.
Carnt beat Sunderland unreal 44k every home game
Blackburn take more away than at home 😂
