Not only is this skewing SVG’s comments wildly, it’s also insanely disrespectful to him and the Supercars drivers. SVG earned that win and what he meant is that any of the top 10 supercars drivers could manage that in his position. If you’re offended by an outsider coming in and beating the series regulars, that’s a personal issue.

Shane was simply paying respect to his colleagues back here. Given the right opportunity and circumstance they would be competitive. Names like Cameron Waters and Brodie Kosteki, Will Brown and Chaz Mostert. Brodie has spent time over there in ARCA I believe so he's raced on ovals. And he is currently leading the series here and beating SVG on pace. Shane is simply one of the best drivers on the planet. Period. Just ask Max Verstappen. And if SVG says someone can drive id listen if I were you. Don't forget he is sitting on the opposite side of the car, and shifting with the other hand. Ridiculous talent. Try and find the Sandown race from a couple of years ago where he was buried in the pack and raced to the lead with a broken collarbone. I'm in the Ford camp here and it's hard seeing him so dominant but he's a generational talent which is due respect. He's also one of the most aggressive and intimidating drivers I've ever seen, whilst at the same time being respectfuland fair. If he does go there, I'm pretty you guys are gonna love his style

That said, if Shane does decide to make the full time switch into NASCAR, his adaptability will be tested on the Oval tracks. They mainly complain from a safety standpoint. It has gotten better and continues to get better, but we just had a legend in Kurt Busch, who was an advocate of how this current car drives, retire because of a concussion from wrecking at Pocono. This car doesn’t absorb energy unless it’s not completely slammed into the wall because the clips have little to no give. Now in terms of racing, I’d have to at least half that number SVG put out. Look at Jenson Button, smooth sailing race until he had to pit. The change in distance wouldn’t have helped all the 10 drivers he’s thinking in his head. SVG is a special top 1% talent and we see how he dominates the Supercars. If you replace him with Will Davison or even a Cam Waters, I don’t think you get the same outcome like what we got this weekend. This doesn’t embarrass the Cup series drivers imo, but half of the drivers in Cup do need to improve immensely. Put Broc in the Wendy’s #42 and that car will at least finish 15th for sure rather than 25th

Put the driver aside for a moment and let's give the 91 team some "hell ya" for the car they brought.
As for street races, the NASCAR drivers are going to learn that slower is faster. Especially if NASCAR adds more street races to the schedule.
I was more interested in how the cars drove. I didn't have doubt about SVG, it was the team and car that I wondered about. One bad pit stop and it had been a different race.
Congrats to the whole 91 team.

How about sending one of our best to Australia. Put him on the track by himself & let's see how close the lap times are to the top ten Supercar drivers.

We need to be careful not to discredit what SVG did. Yeah this style of racing is in his wheelhouse and it’s a similar track to what he races on but he still showed up and beat the cup guys with what they always use. No matter how favorable the conditions were to him, he still had to do the job, still had to keep the car in one piece. And he may not win if the Glen was tomorrow but he would be in contention.

  • @joebradford108

There is a guy in the USA who can beat SVG at his own game. He did it three years in a row 2018-2020... Scott McLaughlin.
Scott was one of the three New Zealanders in the top ten of Ohio Indy 200 last weekend.
Us kiwis love Motorsport as much as you Americans. SVG wasn’t trying to insult anyone, he was simply pointing out that the sport is competitive downunder and in the USA.
Join us in celebrating that, your racing history books already feature kiwis and we are proud that our lads get to race on your streets and tracks when they grow up. SVG and McLaughlin are just the next generation of others who have had success racing in the USA like Scott Dixon, Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme. Rod, Steve and Rhys Millen. Your sport is better for it when competition is high.

There is no reason to be offended by his comment. He was being humble about it and saying that any other top 10 drivers from V8 Supercars could do the same. And he is probably right so what is the problem about that? They use this style of car and they are used to this type of track a lot longer than the cup drivers so for sure he was more on his natural habitat but it doesn't take any less from what an amazing achievement that this was. They are using sequential gear shifts and cars that can reach 190 mph by the end of the straights since forever so they are more used to it. It's fine. He probably would have a lot more difficult if he was debuted on an oval but that's not the point of the Project 91. No reason to get offended. It's fine a guy who is more familiarized with a type of car comes and win even then that the car is completely new to him.

Shane has WON 79 Super-Car races, that includes street races. Compare that to the Nascar drivers who have raced very few street races. That's not a slight to the US drivers. It's just that the Supercar drivers all have huge experience in Street races, plus in the wet! Those street races are on much more narrow streets than Oval racing.

Truth hurts i guess. People that dont follow V8 Supercars have no idea of how talented those drivers are. Dale Earnhardt Jr said he agreed with SVG's comments on this issue, so take that as you will.
SVG had never run on those tyres in a race or qualifying scenario.
He drove on the opposite side of the car.
He was consistently faster than anyone else out there.
V8 Supercars run a locked differential, Nascar doesnt which means Supercars are harder to turn in. He adapted to this as well.
He was playing with Haley on the
Caution restart, and this was demonstrated how easiky his crossover move was done. once he got past he took off into the distance easily.
If it wasnt for the last 2 or 3 cautions, he would have won by 10 seconds.
