Honestly, you have some of the best miniatures and tutorials. I haven't been in the hobby for very long, but I have made a couple of friends who have been painting minis for more than twenty years, and every time you release a video we are all equally excited. They've seen so many 'standard' paint jobs that even an exceptionally well done 'vanilla' miniature just rings kind of lacklustre. Not only are your miniatures well painted, they're also unique and creative beyond, "well, I thought I'd make this orc lime green instead of dark green." It's refreshing and a true inspiration, for beginners and the grognard-iest of old trolls alike. Thank you.
i guess Im asking the wrong place but does anyone know a method to log back into an instagram account?? I was dumb forgot the password. I would love any tricks you can offer me.
@Ares Nikolas i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
You know, the really cool thing about this method is that the tombstones and ground nearby being painted these odd colors make it look like the nighthaunts are glowing and bleeding light onto the other objects. The highlights of the ectoplasm parts really makes it all look very good. This is why I love your videos :)
You're awesome! I feel like I've learned more about painting miniatures watching your videos than anything else I've come across on the internet. Thanks!
I like that she goes further beyond the basics than other RUclipsrs. Also that she's hilarious so you're naturally inclined to watch more than once, which lets you better absorb the knowledge.
Completely agree. This is only the third video I've seen of hers. I've been a miniature painter for close to 30 years now, and I'm still learning things. I love the professionalism Dana brings to RUclips. Keep up the excellent videos, Dana!
Most thought out and explained tutorials I've found, hands down. Most people spend 90% of theirs talking, yet not really saying or showing anything. I actually ordered my first airbrush after watching your videos, as I got a load of free night haunt, and this seems like the perfect way to practice gradients.
Thank you! Once again, your video on airbrush miniatures is an actual video on airbrushing miniatures, not a crash course on how to use an airbrush. Yours is the first video I've found that actually includes airbrushing minis as opposed to just talking about it. My appreciation for this channel continues to grow.
This is the airbrushing video I always wanted after I got an airbrush. There are so many "basic" airbrush videos and so few intermediate and advanced videos. You have a well organized and complete format that is fast enough to be accessible and yet I expect people will go back and watch them over and over to catch pieces they missed the first time through as the information is quite dense. I hope you continue to create these.
Also I would probably never pick the color palette that you do... which is great because it expands my ability to see what works and yours clearly work well.
Yay! Miss Dana hits one out of the park again! I just learned airbrush (one army) and have started NightHaunts. Thanks for the commitment and fortitude.
You are so clear! I love your explanation. And I say this after years of youtube videos of people pretending to teach but in reality they are just "showcasing" their skills! Never forget in the future to se so clear...it's your strong point. Sorry for my english.
Very well done! I have been teaching airbrushing for several years and this video is a great example of how controlled a student can become with practice as well as an example of how it's possible to paint something as small as a miniature. I will make sure to share this video with my students. Thank you very much for doing this video! Be safe, Bill.
Hi, I used to paint as a hobbyist and competitively, and also, for a while I painted professionally for a toy company in the UK. I just wanted to dip in and say honestly, this is some of the most impressively creative way to paint Warhammer miniatures. I absolutely love the colour schemes and use of airbrushing. We just never thought to use airbrushes like this 30 years ago. Maybe for scenery, but yeah, blown away.
I've just started really getting into airbrushing and miniatures and this is probably the best video I've seen yet on gradients with an airbrush. Thank you
I come back to this video often through the years. Massively valuable instructions and such a fantastic paintjob. To my knowledge, you were doing epic painting stuff like this in a time when it wasn't as common at all, if at all.
Thanks so much Kevin!!! Yes back when I made this video, I was the only one I knew of who painted like this hahaha, it's so cool to see I'm not the only one embracing sick gradients anymore ✨🎨
Dear Ms Howl, you got a lot of us hooked to your channel in just a few videos. Though I am well aware that creativity can't and shouldn't be pushed on an artist's mind, I admit that I can't wait for your next video. Thank you for your impressive work and for your unique style both in painting and explaining. Best regards, Sylvain
Dana. Thanks so much. I just received my first airbrush this weekend. I’ve binged all your videos. I’ve watched most more than once. I’m working on the basics now. I just play your video and play along. You’re doing an awesome job. I look forward to all your vids to come. Keep up the great work.
Love the tone and speed of your voice in your videos, making it very clear and easy to follow. Of course not forgetting the occasional puns. That being said, I cannot bring myself not to subscribe for more of your videos.
What a great video! I love the way you incorporate the various bits of rubble and tombstones into the colour scheme to really make it look like an ethereal glow !
Thank goodness you did the guide for these. I collect nighthaunt and although I dont have an airbrush theres some techniques here that I at least needed to know of.
I've never painted figures before but these video's make it feel like great looking miniatures are within reach of my talent level. Thanks for the video's and happy new year.
I don't own an airbrush yet. I won't be doing this any time soon. It's a new Dana Howl video. I watch every second, click like, and will probably re-watch soon.
Dana, you have the BEST painting videos on RUclips, thank you so much for this awesome and WHOLESOME content ! Because of you I have sold my remaining magic the gathering collection and brought an airbrush setup. Stoked! Thank you 😊😊😊 oh and goddamn ! your videos - the music, the colours, your delivery , the pacing, the lighting ...everything is just perfect!
I don't know how I just discovered your channel in the last two weeks, but WOW am I glad I did. Absolutely beautiful work, with a great tutorial explained in a fun/funny way!
Your videos are just splended! You explain things very well, your editing is fantasic, and your techniques and style are just awesome. Keep up the great work!
Awesome! I’ve been hoping for a vaporwave nighthaunt video! I’m going to use a similar scheme on a Bloodbound Slaughterpriest I’ve had sitting around waiting to paint! This video has got me excited!
Hey thnx Dana. I learned 2 new techniques that I will be able to employ on my next projects. I already learned the base prep thanks to you so please keep up the great work!
So what I learned from my very first airbrush gradient and subsequently ruining it with brushwork is: Once you complete the airbrush stage to your satisfaction, happy with the gradient and you have no additional major work to do on that part or even just a main colour of a model if you have done shading by airbrush and fixing a mistake is going to be nigh impossible. Apply 1-2 thin coats of matte varnish to protect your work, give it around 24 hours to cure and then take a cheap to midrange new synthetic brush like an AK interactive one, apologise to it for what you are about to do: take a pair of scissors and cut the bristles to give it a flat top, neated up and take away the cut off hairs. You now have a scrubbing brush, and safe surface to use it on. If you get paint onto a place it isn't supposed to go now, wet it first with the scrubby brush, wait a moment and then rub at it with the scrubby brush, dry the area and re-paint. If it doesn't come off, switch from water to vallejo airbrush thinner or mix a little alcohol in with your water when cleaning an area with the scrubby brush. Think of it like an 'undo' feature in photoshop.
I just wanted to say thank you for these tutorials. I don't paint miniatures but Japanese soft vinyl monsters and you've given me a lot of inspiration and approaches that I wouldn't have come to myself. I've joined the Patreon, and I look forward to more of your great content. Thank you!
Really love your videos and how you give simple instructions. I've only recently started painting minis (after almost 40 years) and your videos are a great source of information. I'm currently part way through painting a Gargantuan Red Dragon and really enjoying it. I love your dry sense of humour too :)
Thank you for this video! I had never thought to use a gradient on a mini but this is absolutely gorgeous, and you show this in a way that makes me think even I can do it.
Got to say I've been in this hobby many years and have not come across this channel Very impressed with the presentation and setup of the videos Stumbled across it due to buying 100 nighthaunt from the new magazine Definitely will be watching through more of your content
I'm new to the hobby and your videos have help me a lot to understand the process of painting miniatures. For your 101 tutorials I couldn't find the miniatures that you have suggested to follow up with you but I did found this one so they will be my starting point, however I don't have an airbrush but I hope I can achieve the goal of learning how to paint this wonderful creatures. Love your channel :)
I'm starting to get interested in going further with the airbrushand gradient is the next step for me. Excellent video, thank you. Vaporwave is dead, long live Vaporwave!
Your channel appeared almost at the same time I bought my first aribrush...and you have helped me tremendously with my airburshing. Is that a coincidence...or "just as planned" :) Thank you very very much Dana.
Thanks so much for making these videos, they’re so useful! I ‘borrowed’ some of my brother’s warhammer figures and painted them, and then gave them back to him as a Christmas present. I wished I’d seen your videos before then! I need to paint my Stuffed Fables figures still, so I’ll definitely be using some of these techniques.
The techniques are awesome, but fundamentally what I like here is the style and how it opened my mind to color schemes and to detail differentiation (or lack of)... Very interesting...
Yes! There was that banshee that was flying past a tombstone and I thought "oh that tombstone should be... no... it's better this way." The techniques really make the color scheme pop. (Or, vice versa)
Brilliant video, really relaxing. But! BEST OF ALL is colour theory, love the hue v value part. As domeone who has painted for a good while, and even as s commission painter. I find the colour wheel and theory absolutely foundational. Thanks
Your videos are very informative and detailed and I really apreciate that. But GOD DAMN IT your humor gets me every time! That "extremelly" emphasis killed me.
Your paints look amazing, your videos are great ( and have gotten better and better!) and I'm excited to practice the techniques you show in them. I have never painted a mini before but I'm going to start!
I had the same idea (basic value-wise with light source from within) when I first got some Glaivewraith guys from a paint kit but my skill was not nearly up to the task. I even thought about maybe putting little LED lights inside the bodies!
Happy New Year, Ms. Howl. Your videos are what inspired me to purchase an airbrush and get stared on Zenithal highlighting and underpainting. Please keep up the great work!
I have a couple paints that work pretty well for a ghostly glow. Both came in a Master Series Paints starter set I believe. Surf Aqua (09078) and Spectral Glow (09416) both work great out of the bottle for the ghastly glowing bits.
Thanks for yet another magnificent installment of utter radness!👍🏻 Get some rest, feel better and here’s to a great 2020! Congrats on your four-day workweek!😎🤘🏼

@Ares Nikolas i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and I'm in the hacking process atm.

@Ares Nikolas It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much, you really help me out!
@Rodrigo Kannon no problem :D

I'm on the same boat. Loving the videos!

I saw these models on a google search and ran into them again on youtube by accident. So glad there's a full tutorial! Absolutely love the look!
This has to have been one of the most aesthetically pleasing "how-to-paint-a-miniature" vids I've ever seen. Ms. Howl, you are truly an artist.
Dana, I LOVE your videos and I love your deadpan delivery! Your videos are entertaining and very informative! Awesome awesome awesome!

Been in the hobby for more than a decade and even did paiting competitions, and let me tell you, you are making great and well spoken tutorials

The vibrant neon tone on the ghosts really pronounces the fantastical supernatural feel. They look amazing!
thank you! glad u liek em
I've just started really getting into airbrushing and miniatures and this is probably the best video I've seen yet on gradients with an airbrush. Thank you
Love your colour palette you use for your minis. It´s something not everyone could pull off. It is a pleasure to see something a little different.

Your videos really helped me to get past a creative block and try some new things. THANK YOU! You're an amazing teacher!
Channel is growing fast. You deserve it very unique tutorials and bold color schemes. Really breaks up the monotony of mini paint videos
Dear Ms Howl, you got a lot of us hooked to your channel in just a few videos. Though I am well aware that creativity can't and shouldn't be pushed on an artist's mind, I admit that I can't wait for your next video.

Dana. Thanks so much. I just received my first airbrush this weekend. I’ve binged all your videos. I’ve watched most more than once. I’m working on the basics now. I just play your video and play along. You’re doing an awesome job. I look forward to all your vids to come. Keep up the great work.
This is an incredible video and your painting may take from others, but no one is painting in this style so well.
Thanks for making this.
Your videos are very succinct and well explained. Also, I find your deadpan delivery like audible chocolate, very pleasant to listen to. More, please.
Thank goodness you did the guide for these. I collect nighthaunt and although I dont have an airbrush theres some techniques here that I at least needed to know of.
I've never painted figures before but these video's make it feel like great looking miniatures are within reach of my talent level. Thanks for the video's and happy new year.
i was able to follow your tutorial perfectly. super happy to come across it!
You are getting a lot more confident in front of the camera. Great content keep it up!
I don't own an airbrush yet. I won't be doing this any time soon. It's a new Dana Howl video.
I watch every second, click like, and will probably re-watch soon.
Thank you for linking music! This is how I find new bands all the time.

The best glaze tutorial I've ever seen
Nice use of the airbrush to create interesting transitions! Thanks for sharing.
I'm so in love with this color scheme!
Holy moly those minis are BEAUTIFUL. That is an amazing colour scheme, amazing job!
I don't know how I just discovered your channel in the last two weeks, but WOW am I glad I did. Absolutely beautiful work, with a great tutorial explained in a fun/funny way!
I recently found your channel. I don't airbrush (yet), but your videos are so relaxing and I love the subtle humor. Keep it up!
Very interesting color choices, neat effect. They're like neon spooks!
Your videos are just splended! You explain things very well, your editing is fantasic, and your techniques and style are just awesome. Keep up the great work!
This was the most fun tutorial I've followed, and the results were awesome. Thanks Dana.
Awesome! I’ve been hoping for a vaporwave nighthaunt video!

Such a striking and appropriate color scheme. Thank you for sharing! I love your videos.

Huh never thought of using the base rim to establish light very cool.
I would love to see you do a video on painting the plastic sisters in the background. Have a great New Year!
it's in the works!
These Nighthaunts turned out magnificently. More tutorials please.
Yes! I've been looking forward to the next video, but didn't expect it to come out today. Way to kick off 2020, Dana!
Thank you for this video! I had never thought to use a gradient on a mini but this is absolutely gorgeous, and you show this in a way that makes me think even I can do it.
Your edits are comedy gold. Jilted dry humour over the top of really useful information. Nice one! :D
Happy new year everyone, great start to 2020! Thanks for the video
Happy New Year!!!
Got to say I've been in this hobby many years and have not come across this channel
Very impressed with the presentation and setup of the videos
Stumbled across it due to buying 100 nighthaunt from the new magazine
Definitely will be watching through more of your content
Thank you so much! I’m actually planning a series right now on that exact subscription service (I might have also bought 100 nighthaunt)
I like the way you explain things. Your videos have helped me, thank you.
I'm new to the hobby and your videos have help me a lot to understand the process of painting miniatures. Mixing two of my favorite things miniatures painting and V A P O R W A V E
Excellent stealth tutorial. Keep up the good work!
great video, i MUST make a vaporwave army now
I've been waiting for this! A great way to start the year's hobby projects
miami vice ghosts!
i love it! also your video is great for learning color theory and such
The color you mix reminds me a lot of Scale 75's Caribbean Blue, which is one of my favorite paints I've ever used.
Beat me to it, I was thinking the same thing. It is one of the best paints I own!
I don’t know why, but I really enjoy how you edited your videos!
Good to see warhammer have a growing audience and what beautiful models !
I'm so so happy I found your channel! Wonderful work, friend!
EXTREMELY *skateboarding dude* TRANSPARENT
Fantastic video! You make it look so easy. Those models turned out beautiful.
Thank you so much for another awesome video! I love the retro stylings of your channel and your painting is bananas!
Nice guide and awesome final result!
Your vids are best! I hope you will eventually do one on air brushing and air brushers.
Now this is a good way to start the new year
I'm starting to get interested in going further with the airbrushand gradient is the next step for me. Excellent video, thank you. Vaporwave is dead, long live Vaporwave!
Your channel appeared almost at the same time I bought my first aribrush...and you have helped me tremendously with my airburshing. Is that a coincidence...or "just as planned" :)
Thank you very very much Dana.
What I mean is that basic common knowledge dictates we should different details as much as possible for a high quality job... For example, you could build a gradient in the capes but the weapons should look like a weapon (e.g. silver) and scenery should be painted separately as scenery (dirt and rocks).... But here she does the opposite = The figure body, the figure weapon and even the scenery elements all carry the same color gradient but somehow nobody cares because the color scheme is so interesting and the gradient quality is so prevalent that who cares if the weapon does not have a realistic metallic finish... Very interesting...
Yes! There was that banshee that was flying past a tombstone and I thought "oh that tombstone should be... no... it's better this way." The techniques really make the color scheme pop. (Or, vice versa)
nice guide! Got an airbrush because of your videos
Brilliant video, really relaxing. But! BEST OF ALL is colour theory, love the hue v value part. As domeone who has painted for a good while, and even as s commission painter. I find the colour wheel and theory absolutely foundational. Thanks
Superb underpainting - the renaissance painters, not to mention their successors, called this technique: grisaille.
Very informative, i know what i am doing the next days. Thank you for this nice guide.
I love the disco neon theme to you videos
Your videos are very informative and detailed and I really apreciate that. But GOD DAMN IT your humor gets me every time! That "extremelly" emphasis killed me.
Your paints look amazing, your videos are great ( and have gotten better and better!) and I'm excited to practice the techniques you show in them.
I have never painted a mini before but I'm going to start!
I had the same idea (basic value-wise with light source from within) when I first got some Glaivewraith guys from a paint kit but my skill was not nearly up to the task. I even thought about maybe putting little LED lights inside the bodies!
Great work and well presented as always.
Happy New Year, Ms. Howl. Your videos are what inspired me to purchase an airbrush and get stared on Zenithal highlighting and underpainting. Please keep up the great work!
happy new year!!! thanks!
Fantastic video! Informative, with a clear transition between the steps.
Woooow! Great job...happy new year from Chile
Lovely work. Great video!
Great video, the airbrush is made for gradients!👍
I have a couple paints that work pretty well for a ghostly glow. Both came in a Master Series Paints starter set I believe. Surf Aqua (09078) and Spectral Glow (09416) both work great out of the bottle for the ghastly glowing bits.
Thanks for your videos! They are very helpful and entertaining too!
Thanks for yet another magnificent installment of utter radness!👍🏻
Get some rest, feel better and here’s to a great 2020!
Congrats on your four-day workweek!😎🤘🏼
