- 08/24/2024 Winthrop, IA. Here the East bound CN M338 is seen as it interrupts a surprise tractor parade! Plenty of classic tractors to be seen like Oliver, John Deere, and Ford. Cedar Rapids, IA. Here an East bound stack train is seen crossing the Cedar River. At one time this was a single track bridge. Just to the East of this position is the Otis Junction where I got the drone out for another East bound stack train. The UP Beverly Yard was fairly busy this day along with the nearby CRANDIC Yard.
I sure like the colors of the locomotive and slug in the Crandike yard! 😄😄😄❤️❤️❤️
Thank you very much for the fabulous video, my friend! Great trains, tractors, yards, and new scenery. I can't ask for anything more than that!! 😃😃😃😃😃😃❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍
@garymiller5937 You're welcome Gary! Had a lot going on in this one👍
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 You sure did! 😃❤️
That's a very long intermodal train, Red! Well over 200 cars.😀😀😀😀❤️❤️❤️❤️
Back in 1950, es we had the "New york,New Haven & Hartford RR repair car shops in our Back yard. I can still see the freshly painted box cars lined up with the big white logos on the sides of the cars.
Thanks for the tractor parade. I drove a few of those back in the day back home on the farm. Another awesome video Red!
@michaelbuss5731 You're welcome Michael! The tractors were a pleasant surprise👍
I like seeing rail yards, Red. Thanks for adding that in today!
We get Spoiled with the Drone footage. Thanks Red! 👍🙏
@kens.3729 You're welcome Ken!
Another great video Red, and that power plant had to be burning coal coming from the powder River basin because there was no smoke coming out of those stacks at all and that’s why all the power plants and the United States likes the coal from the Powder River basin because it is so low and sulfur. They say it is the cleanest burning coal in the world but anyway, my friend you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one.
@timmyfrierson2684 Thanks Timmy! That's a pretty old power plant too. Hopefully they don't turn it to Natural Gas. We've already lost enough coal trains. Have a good one👍
This was awesome Red, that tractor parade, wow, very cool! I even showed my old man the parade, he’s has a 53 Super A and a 56 Farmall 230. Still uses both of them. That 2nd train was an f’n monster 2x146x1x120. I’m guessing the 120 because you panned away for a moment. Looks like that CRANDIC Rail is one of them newer GenSets with the slug on it. Great yard shots. Have an excellent rest of your Labor Day weekend Red👍🏼😎🇺🇸🍻
@stretchlimo7275 Thanks STRETCH LIMO! That's the second time I stumbled across a tractor parade. I like them unless I'm stuck behind them😃 I heard those CRANDIC slugs used to be UP. Enjoy your weekend👍
Great one again thanks red
@ronaldrondeau7870 You're welcome Ronald!
It's been decades since I've been to Winthrop, Iowa. My family lives there, but more south down south of there in Quaquenton (Quaky). One thing I remember were those huge grain elevators, but are they gone now ??? I remember the Rock Island trains. The Rock Island even went through Walker & Rowley Iowa, but tracks are now long gone.
@kevinfranck6520 I went through Quaky after leaving Winthrop! The Rock Island line must have been the one that went through Oelwein too. I used to work in that area at a dealership in Jesup.
Monster train, almost three minutes to pass...
Hello Red . Bad timing for the tractors nice vintage ones .great Drone shots . Nice yard 👍🏻😎Robin out
@@robinroberts3335 Yo Robin! Good Ole Iowa tractor parade👍
The overpass of the CNW/ UP by the cedar River was the Burlington cedar rapids northern. From Burlington Iowa to Manly, CPIP controlled.
No one ever comes to my little Beverly yard. You caught me at 22:06 in the red pickup, setting up for some mainline freights
@Jfrmr1 I like the Beverly Yard. Great to catch trains coming off the old mainline from the North Yard there👍
Bridge at 8:12 was on the Burlington Cedar Rapids & Northern. The current bridge shown is part of a bike trail and was built when the Union Pacific double tracked the Cedar River bridge. The Rock Island took over the Burlington Cedar Rapids & Northern in the first decade of the 20th Century by buying out the CB&Q's interest in the line. The bridge carried the Rocket Zephyr from the Twin Cities to St. Louis in the middle of the 20th Century.
@williamdahlsten2255 Thanks for the information William!
Think I might go to this location when Big Boy comes through this Friday. Nice video been by the power plant and across the river just down from the nature center.
@falconone74 Thanks David H! I'll definitely do Montour Thursday and probably Clinton on Friday.
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645
You wouldn’t happen to know or speculate where they are going to “park” Big Boy in Cedar Rapids? I know from what I’ve read you can’t go see it, but I want to make sure if I go by the power plant I’m not going to miss it.
@@falconone74 Most likely Beverly yard.
That was a great tractor parade in Winthrop, Iowa on 24 August 2024 that was interrupted by Canadian National train #338 from Waterloo, Iowa to Markham Yard in Homewood, Illinois, Red! I enjoyed the tractor parade and the passing of train #338, Your next stop that day was the Union Pacific's bridge over the Cedar River in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Is that bridge over the Cedar River on the mainline Clinton Subdivision? Both Union Pacific's Beverly Yard and the Cedar Rapids & Iowa City's yard were busy. The two CRANDIC switchers appear to be eco-friendly engines.(Posted 31 August 2024 at 2125 CDT.)
@thomasmackowiak Thanks Thomas! The tractor parade was a nice bonus! Yes the river bridge is main line Clinton Sub.
Yes, the bike trail bridge was previously the Rock Island, the old north-south mainline from Minneapolis to Burlington, Iowa. It came south through Waterloo,, Cedar Rapids, and on through the smaller towns of Ely, Solon, West Branch, West Liberty, Columbus Junction, Wapello, and others. It's a historical line, since prior to 1903 it was BCRN, the Burlington, Cedar Rapids, and Northern ("bums can't ride north").
@roxbrandstatter7479 Thanks for the history Rox! I'm guessing the Rock shared the North Yard with the CNW. Iowa Northern now runs that line North of Cedar Rapids. Soon to be CN.
Wow the Cran are running those GenSet engines those were sold off by the UP because they were unreliable. Another Great Video Red. Stay safe out there.
@roballen5670 Thanks Rob! Hopefully catch the Big Boy next week👍
No tractor will win vs. a train 🤠
The Twilight picture of your signal was like a reminder of my days living near the Lakeshore Div when the semaphore made its nightly move to caution then red between 1145o and midnight. Shortly afterwards the products of Green Bay. Manitowoc and Sheboygan would race by on their last lap to Butler yard. Sure do miss those days. It was great to see the tractor parade a true version of muscle equipment in the Midwest. That is quite a contrast between the bike path overpass with the Old Stone abutments and the new bridge. Those two Intermodal trains were probably 2 milers and always good to see the yard activity. Hope you catch the Big Boy in good weather
@paulbergen9114 I definitely like the twilight version of the semaphore. I'll try green ro red next. Yes hopefully the weather holds. I'd like to chase the Big Boy on the Harley👍
Red, the railroad is crandic fo cedar rapids and iowa city, no k
Looks like the CRANDIC giys like to run long hood foward both ways😅
Those 4 digit olivers look they just rolled out of the factory at Charles City.
When that 706 gets to the end of the parade hell the 3pt and hitch and shell able to step of with ease. You'll see more of them on multi-day tractor runs.
Lots of 3, and 5 section articlates on those stack trains.
The Minnie- Mo R or Z?
@charleshagenbuch6078 It was a nice surprise Charles! I did a video in Charles City awhile back where you could still see the old tractor factory concrete. 3 pt passenger compartment was a first for me.
By the way, nice bike Red, I bet that helps in getting around to do your videos. That tractor with area on back is that way the queen can make sure the king is doing their jobs (Lol). another great video. Thanks, from Candyman.
@brianmassey5897 Thanks Candyman! It does make railfanning easier on a bike. That rear passenger compartment on the tractor was a first for me.
Yellow tractor was a Minneapolis Moline.
🚂😎👍🚂
I came for the trains but the tractors were a nice bonus! That grey Ford tractor looked a lot like the one my grandpa had. He bought it used in the early 1950’s because he found that dealing with the draught horses was getting to be too much work and also dangerous when using the hay rake pulled by horse to move the hay from the wagon to the hay loft. The tractor had a 3 point hitch, part of the Ferguson system before it became part of Massey Harris that was then renamed Massey Ferguson. At one time Massy Harris/Massey Ferguson had extensive rail yards at their main plant in Brantford, Ontario.
@Play_fare Thanks for all the information S.L! Lots of history in that parade👍
Evil Knieval could get to the other side 😂
Car carriers are now exclusively covered.........but not the pretty green tractors?
@@jeffreyerickson3050 Lot of custom stuff on those tractors.
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 And I helped make em that way🤠
I've been on tractor rides you see alot at 15 mph or less. 2 cylinder john deeres sound the best. Wow single lane bridge would have been terrible. Any chance you will get big boy. I'm undecided if I will try yet
@davidsnider1703 I like tractor parades unless I'm stuck behind one😃 Yes I plan on catching Big Boy in Montour and then pick some spots East of there.
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 thank you. Can't wait
