Autofocus breathing is the death of a killer play. I use a monitor, and zoom control and always have my hand on the focus. Once you get this skill down, you'll be getting better content. I just landed a job with an SEC football team. One of the first set of fielding questions they asked me was if I used manual focusing or utilized autofocus.

I will say though I feel like the canon rebel series still has some great bang for the buck, flip-out screen, great autofocus, great colours right out the camera, my sl2 is still a workhorse😁
The loss of focus is because of focus breathing. You'd need a parfocal video lens to avoid this. Problem is they're *expensive*, presumably as they're difficult to make. Video-specific lenses (like B4 lenses for ENG cameras for example) are parfocal. Most (if not all) fixed-lens camcorders will also contain a parfocal lens.

Hey I am tryna get into basically the same things you are doing but on a 500$ budget, what type of camera do you think I should get? From my research this is the only camera that was 4k and can zoom well for around that price and its a panasonic lumix fz80
It's tough with that budget. I honestly would recommend going back to another youtube video and searching for the best camera for $500 to see how they break it down. Just know that although that's a decent chunk of change, you get for what you pay for. If you could save for just a little bit longer and get to the $1000 price range it will be worth it in my opinion.

It's interesting to see your kit options grow. Was the Sony 8 bit limiting? I find Sony's files very unforgivable to work with, and it doesn't take colour grading very well. Oh and the reason why lenses don't maintain focus after zooming is because they aren't parfocal. It's a feature usually limited to expensive cinema lenses.

B/c it's 8 bit & the codecs are really meant for grading if it's 10 bit or higher imma use my brain & treat it like the jpg file it Is, so I turned picture profile off and will leave it on standard creative style. Expose correctly & just keep shooting. Look up Manifest Trust on youtube & the video I posted was after I tried to grade hlg3 but I couldn't pull it back from how grey it looks, so I'm just going to make the limitations my strengths. You can also look on @mtruproductions on instagram for my Photography. Keep shooting. Don't forget why you started. Shoot for You first and foremost. Stay safe. You can always reach out.

You could either use a power zoom lens for whatever camera you use, or get a motorized follow focus to attach to a lens

Definitely try to invest in a good fluid head so the movements are as smooth as possible.

I would say try and zoom in with your lens when you can because you will lose less quality versus trying to zoom-in in post.
