"Why Not Now?" | Silverado (1985) | Now Playing - Кино
I felt like Silverado never got its due. It’s in my top 10 of all time favorite Westerns for sure.
One of the best Westerns ever! Brian Dennehy was a villain you loved to hate.
Yep, that and Rambo!
I really like Silverado!
The film still holds up, 38 years later. How the hell has that many years passed?
One day after another
38? Wow. Can’t believe that it’s been that long.
Scott freeking Glenn was a bad ass in this. Holloywood missed the boat on Glenn he should have made 5 more Westerns after that one.
This was a very under appreciated western. It came out during the Vietnam War movie craze, going up against films like Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, and Born On The Fourth Of July. People were in a different mood. But I loved it. I am not a Kevin Kline fan but even he was good in this one.
It came out before all of those films. 4 years before Born on the 4th July! 🤭
Yep this movie made me a Scott Glen fan.
I believe that's the underappreciated Jeff Fahey as Tyree.
Very underutilized, yes.
Down to that, Jeff Fahey was born in Olean, New York.
Dude's got those freaky eyes. I imagine they've helped and hurt him in his career.
Was just going to say this!
Always thought of him as a deranged looking Robbie Benson (going waaaay back here).
There are so many oscar winners in this scene alone.
The movie had just about every cliche in the book but it was still well done, enjoyable, and in the end, the good guys won. But there were SO many good actors in that production that it was almost overload.
I’m pretty sure that was intentional. It was more of an homage than a stand alone story. I loved every minute of it!
One of the best westerns ever made. :)
I 100% agree with that comment. I saw it as a kid, and I've seen many since. Still one of the best.
It's worth a watch, but far from a classic.
THE Best.
Definitely one of the top 5 westerns ever made. A classic, and an amazing cast.
Nah I wouldn’t put it top 5 or even top 10, but I did enjoy it.
5:14 Even the horse seems to dislike the bad guys.
One of my all time favorites. All Star cast.
Yup, I forgot just how many greats were in it. Now I gotta go watch it again.
@@choccolocco Scott Glenn, Danny Glover, Kevin Kline, Jeff Goldbloom, Brian Denehey, Jeff Fahey, and a very young Kevin Costner. I’m probably leaving someone out, but man, what a star studded cast.
Underrated too. When you talk to people that like movies, even westerns and mention Silverado many have not seen this gem.
Pkioi@@stevenpritchett4933
@@stevenpritchett4933Brian Dennehy is NO longer with us.
LOVE Silverado!!!!!!!
Jeff Fahey is fantastic!!!
No one in there right mind would toast a shot of "the good stuff" and just put it down leaving the room.
Silverado was a superb film with a fleet of great leading and character actors.
Yup, packed with talent.
I wish they would make a sequel. This movie really was one of the best Hollywood Westerns.
I saw this movie on DVD, I guess about 30 or 25 years ago. I LOVED it. And it is the first movie in which I can remember seeing Costner, Kline, Glenn, Dennehy, and Hunt.
My absolute favorite western! Great movie.
Even the "extras" were great actors in this wonderful ode. Always one of my top 5 favorite westerns. Just depends which one I've seen most recently.
One of my favorite Westerns.
I love that actress. She played the principal in kindergarten cop and I loved her there too
Linda Hunt. And she also played a great role on NCIS: Los Angeles for a few seasons.
She also was the voice of Gaia in the original “God of War” games
In 1983 she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as a Chinese-Australian man with dwarfism, Billy Kwan in "The Year of Living Dangerously."
Yes, her role was that of a man.
The Relic as well, also starring Penelope Ann Miller, who was the love interest from Kindergarten Cop.
I feel like an opportunity was missed not making a film about Ullyses S Grant, with Kevin Kline as Grant. He's got the right look, though a bit tall. Has the acting chops too.
Look at wild wild west
@@johnpisciotto7115 That was strictly for fun. Grant is grievously overlooked as a dramatic figure.
A mini-series would probably work better than a movie (It's difficult to do justice to a character like Grant - Spielberg's Lincoln is the exception). Just look at the mess the Napoleon movie was, in spite of a fine performance of Joaquin Phoenix.
@@jamesrawlins735 Yeah good point.
Grant was a drunk and until Obama and Biden the most corrupt president we ever had
Mr Dennehy could do smiling menace better than anyone in the world. You just believed there was an arse-wooping waiting there for you, behind the eyes and teeth.
1985 was a bittersweet, somewhat magical year, for me. A long way from home, met a lot of new and interesting people, some of those no longer with us. I remember seeing this film advertising and seemed like a good show. Now, it brings back a lot of memories. Look forward to seeing them again.
This was/is a great movie. When it first came out it felt fresh; I believe it ushered in a new style of western.
This movie digs into and tweaks so many of the classic western cliches but manages to be fun and engaging. May have to watch it again.
Sooo many awesome stars just SHINING in this epic western!
One of my all-time favorites.
That last line is the whole shebang. A direct warning that 'The Sheriff' was biting off more than he could chew.
Another really good western that came out about the same time was Pale Rider with Clint Eastwood. I was in high school when both of these movies came out.
Man, Hetty has been around a long time 😂
Man a lot of great actors when they were young got to watch this again.
One of the best movies ever! John P.
Dude, Jeff Fahey was a STUD back in the day
Best Western ever made!
Love this movie. Though it wasn’t his first movie this was definitely Costner’s breakout role. Felt a little odd seeing Scott Glenn as a good guy, he always played a great villain.
Payton is too cool 😎
Kevin Kline's best role in my opinion.
His 2nd best role was in "A Fish Called Wanda". ( Don't call him stupid! ) 🙂
Always hoped Paden would wind up with Stella. They were perfect for each other.
I did also but I think they were soulmates as best friends. They really had the best chemistry in this movie. You could really feel it.
That wasn't their relationship though. But you could tell they really cared about each other.
The good stuff looks like tea.
Emmett's the shizz. Nobody wants any fight. Gives up the horse and walks away.
Such a good movie. I love when Kevin is cocky.
Which Kevin? Got two here.
God, Payton is such a stand-up character.
I want Jeff Fahey’s eyes. Everybody does.
Yep. Amazing eyes.
He got the CRAZY EYES
I love sound of hammer as it clicks. So definitive. Dam. Not just a weapon also a tool almost?!
You've all got it wrong it's the "all star" cast that ruins it.
Random Thought: Ive always thought that Jeff Fahey wouldve been a PERFECT Wolverine.. especially back when he was this young.
Kevin Kliene no matter how his character is written seems like a nice person.
He was terrific and 'nice' in Dave, another very underrated movie.
I always wondered who Jeff Goldblum was going to back here. He later turned out to be a bad guy, but in this scene, he is pretty new to town and this saloon is where he makes his living. So who was he going to use that knife on?
He seems like a good guy in the first scene. It’s confusing for a western- characters are in black or white. His character wears a grey suit- he’s neutral, looking out for himself.
You’d think he would have taken the saddle, or at least the saddle bags…
The last great western.. 😊😊😊
At the time it was battling Pale Rider for audience approval.
@@slicksalmon6948 the Clint Eastwood westerns were a gritty representation of the old west . No clear cut image of good guys and bad guys .. of anti heroes and villains .. unlike the John Wayne westerns which was what Silverado was.. the true definition of the western genre.. faithful to tradition. ( John Wayne never like Clint Eastwood's western movies )
Everyone loves Paden.
hey i think i should check this movie
star studded classic. back when I was a kind (11 when this came out) I thought it was normal for a movie's cast to consist of only the best actors, I guess I was wrong.
Best Western till 3:10 to Yuma.
Jeff Goldbloom is the poster child of bringing a knife to a guy fight.
Where's the dog????
He left me.
Silverado en español
Payden saved Tyree there. Jake could've taken all three.
And another 5 or 6 probably get caught in the crossfire.
Is that Jeff Fahey? Pretty sure I've only seen him in Lawnmower Man and now this. He's really good just didn't have an all star career as far as I know.
Yes, that’s Jeff. Definitely underrated.
Yes. They tried to give him a series was a modern-day Federal Marshal, but it didn't last. I liked it.
His eyes are haunting
I just realized after all this time the actor playing Tyree is the same one who plays The Lawnmower Man and the airline pilot on “Lost”. I’m used to seeing him with blonde hair.
Frank Lapidus
@@vanwilder1101 The character is Frank Lapidus. The actor is Jeff Fahey.
@@RUclipsallowedmynametobestolen Yep - and? I was referring to the " lawnmower man and the airline pilot on 'lost' " Did you read the OP's post?
@@vanwilder1101 At first, I mistook your meaning, and after realizing what you really meant, I was clarifying the facts for anyone else who might misunderstand you.
Did YOU read the OP's post? He refers to THE ACTOR who played those roles and says, "I'm used to seeing him with blonde hair." He is OBVIOUSLY talking about seeing THE ACTOR with blonde hair, not the characters.
So when you then suggest a name, it looks as though you are referring to the actor, not any character.
Also, in your response to my comment, you say you were "referring to the lawnmower man and the airline pilot on 'lost'." That makes it sound like both characters had the same name. Which is the SECOND TIME your comment is poorly and misleadingly worded.
Yes, at first glance I misunderstood you.
Was that because I read poorly? Or because you wrote poorly?
@@RUclipsallowedmynametobestolen 😆Bro - take a xanax - chill
a good movie....the character tyree was suppose to be a real bad ass...and gets killed easily....
5:10 I mean, check your saddle bags, eh?
Some big names appearing in here....
Something that has bothered me since I was a kid . Who was Jeff Goldblum going to defend in that situation? Because at this point of the movie is not made clear if he's picked sides or not.
Himself. He was preparing to arm himself in case a larger brawl broke out. I imagine it's meant to show that he isn't the honest, carefree gambler he purports himself to be, as well as note the weapon the audience would know he had hidden during the big showdown at the end.
@@phimseto Excellent point!
I thought his was the role most miscast. Everyone else was great.
Great movie film all around.
Sure. This is pretty predictable story. The acting makes it more than worth it. Dennehy is a great heavy. The way he tells that story about the dog…. Under rated. That’s how we all think we tell stories when relating one to people.
Story and directing by Lawrence Kasdan was first rate….
never dismount on the right side of a horse.
Why?
@@BuceGar Back in the days of knights they wore their swords on the left so it was easier to mount and dismount from the left or near side of the horse. Now that we don't wear swords we still do this out of tradition. I'm sure the horse doesn't care.
@@bgrigg07 Thnx!
@@bgrigg07 We also mount bicycles and motorbikes the same way, because the side-stand is to the left. Which in a RHD country means you are on the verge side of the machine and in a LHD country you are on the road side of the machine.
@@aaronleverton4221 Again, we do that because of swords and horses. I mount my bicycle from what ever side is handiest or safest. The kick stand doesn't really come into play, bikes are light enough you can lift them off the stand from the right. My motorcycle (when I rode one) was too heavy so left side was the only way. Unless it was on the center stand, then I would again use whichever side was handiest.
Several guys ready to swap lead and all the bystanders crowding around. Not one hunting cover. Sounds plausible to me😂
I'd completely forgotten Jeff Fahey was in Silverado.
I'd have kept the saddle though
Calvin Stanhope, but my mother called me Slick.
My favorite western, it even beats out Tombstone, and Quigley Down Under
Might not go that far
Brian Dennehy was the f-ckin man.
I know it's trite but "they don't make movies like this any more."
Everyones clothes are too clean to be a realistic. People in those times wore the same clothes for weeks at a time. Especially those coming in from long rides.
Kevin Kline was made for this role he fucking killed it.
Brian Dennehy was kind of pimp with that coat
The first movie I saw Kevin Costner in. One of my favorite westerns. But, Goldblum was out of place in this movie.
Yes his part seemed of all the parts last minute add in. Director or a producers pet.
I thought he was a great character. The way he's introduced makes the audience suspect he will eventually ally with the good guys but he turns out to be a real bastard, arguably more vile than any of the other big bad characters.
Everything changes when your father dies
Amen. :(
Was he going to take on a dino with that derringer??😂😂😂😂
It's a knife actually
He was so preoccupied with whether or not he could that he didn't stop to think if he should.
@@deadkingkyle .... Oh, it is isn't it!!!??!!!!
Well same question... 😂😂😂😂
@@jldude84 .... More likely preoccupied with chaos theory. 😆😆😆
@@jldude84 ... Oh dang!!!! I'm old and it's been a few years. I just remembered the reference. 😂😂😂😂
Life as a bouncer. :p
I really liked Jeff Goldblums character. I have to tried to figure out why he got ready to throw his knife and who he was going to aim at several times. I still think he was going to help Tyree. It would be the only reason to get involved and he was all about himself. He had no reason to help otherwise. He was thinking to get in good with the sheriff by helping the deputy.
I never understood Goldbloom’s role in this movie. Was he a good guy or a bad guy? At times he seemed like both.
He was focused exclusively on his own benefit. He thought McKendrick was winning and tried to curry favor. He never fell in the category good guy.
Mr. Fischoeder
Difently Jeff Fahey
Saw this when it first came out and was pretty darned unimpressed. “Big Chill” on horseback.
I know all western movies are actors wearing costumes, but I just couldn’t get past the impression of ‘80s actors doing ‘80s acting while dressed up old timey. Watching this clip, my impression hasn’t mellowed with age. I find myself singing the punchline from the Smothers Brothers version of “Streets of Loredo.” 🎵If you get an outfit, you can be a cowboy too.🎵
Actors killed it across the board. This seems more like a viewer problem only seeing 80s actors, like you can't watch Leonard Nimoy in anything but Star Trek. I was able to be in awe of Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting without going "eh, it's just Mork dressed up in regular clothes."
Lawrence Kasdan was involved in both movies and used many of the same actors. Costner was actually the corpse in Big Chill. He made great movies in both instances.
Aww c’mon it was comfort food completely predictable and still fun.
I never understood why Jeff goldblum reached for his knife. Ever. He was the biggest sellout in the film and wouldn’t gain anything from saving Kevin Klines character
They just wanted to foreshadow it for the big scene later. Not the best job of doing that though.
FAHEY!!!!!
being an old school Western lover (I watched over 250 westerns from its golden era) I don't get the hype about this movie. It's ok, decent and "classic", but there are dozens of black and white westerns that are much better than this one
While I agree that there are many old classics that are better. There is nothing modern that is similarly good, I prefer this movie over unforgiven.
0:40 the old stop-your-drink-just-as-your-cup-reaches-your-lip game. ding.
Too many ads!im out.f utube.
It's funny how some westerns are totally implausible because everyone and everything is way too clean and sterile looking. It wasn't like that.
Denehey part is the only one that spoils it.
Incorrect.
slow pace and lots of miscasting imo. Kevin Kline in a Western? Not terribly convincing. Brian Dennehy smiling his way thru another villain? Film actors know that if you say part of a line and then pause, the camera has a good chance of staying on you until you finish the line. There was a ton of that in the snippets I saw of this movie. Very self conscious and very self promoting.
Worst western I’ve ever seen
This movie sucked ass and not in a good way.
You don't have to watch it then, flathead.
Thanks for stopping by. The rest of us enjoyed the F out of it.
I thot that Ana de Armas with beard in the Thumbnail.
Glad I’m not the only one who saw it
