    320 cards @ 365 days in a year
One story per day and 45 days off to recuperate. Nice Hoyt history Glen. I admire knuckleball pitchers. Thanks for sharing 👍

I think Hoyt's catchers need some love. Not easy trying to pull in those knuckleballs. Great look at a great ballplayer and great man.

I agree. I will do some research on them as well. It has to be difficult with that unpredictable knuckle ball.

The 1971 card is most interesting to me because he was only on the Cubs for about 10 days and Topps managed to get him in a Cubs uniform without having to do one of their cheesy paint jobs. Cubs picked him off waivers from the Braves on Sept. 21st and the season ended Oct. 1. The picture on the card was taken at Shea Stadium and the Cubs finished the season with 4 games at Shea. Topps must have sent a photographer to one of those 4 games to get the pictures because in the same 1971 set they got Dean Chance in a Mets uniform and he had been picked up by the Mets around the same time Wilhelm was picked up by the Cubs. The two pictures must have been taken the same day. Wilhelm & Chance each only got into 3 games with their new teams, so there weren't many opportunities to get them in these particular uniforms.Good job by Topps who usually weren't that diligent.

The 71 set is hard to get in good condition. I appreciate you sharing a more detailed view on the 71 cards. I love learning about these players. Thanks for watching. Have a great weekend

@@SouthernFriedCards Hoyt Wilhelm was my first favorite baseball player when I started watching way back around 1968. 10 years later when I first started in collecting old cards, I tried to get every Hoyt Wilhelm and got almost all of them, but even way back then the late series 1952 cards were hard to find and I never found a 52 Hoyt Wilhelm. Back then it would probably have cost $10, but now, when you can find one easy enough on ebay it costs hundreds, even thousands of dollars which is more than I can pay.

What a patriot! He went and served this country. He got injured and still played pretty good even though he has some shratnel inside his body.
