A bit of a precision : for Yoimiya's sets, even though none of the sets is massively ahead enough of the others for her to really have a signature set, Shimenawa does often end up slightly outperforming the other options. Since it shares a domain with Emblem, it's pretty likely you already have or will soon have good Shimenawa's pieces, which means a 4p Shimenawa will very often be the best thing you can put on her. I just wanted to insist on the fact that the difference isn't really that big, so if you don't have a good 4 set or if you like being able to use your burst as a panic button, you won't get punished too much for using another set

What’s the DPS diff with 4 Shime vs 4 CW or 2/2 pieces? I thought the issue with Shime was needing more ER to get burst every rotation? Unless her Burst doesn’t give enough of a DPS increase to be worth using every rotation vs the NA buff gained?
Yoimiya's auto targeting is so weird because sometimes she will miss an enemy in front of her and other times she'll do shit like hitting hillichurls in top of towers with her NAs while she's on the ground I've just seen a video where Yoimiya's NA hit an enemy BEHIND her without facing them. Like, she literally shot the arrow backwards and honestly what the fuck lol. I really wish her NAs had some sort of auto tracking in the air

i pulled yoimiya even though i had a hu tao. first of all i love her char design second of all the simple nature of her playstyle really sells her for me. when you are in the overworld you dont really care about good rotations or vaping your biggest hits everything dies with one kazuha e anyway. i just wanna have a chill character.
same situation I also have hu tao but still pulled for yoi. She's one of my fav characters. Good investment in characters will overall make them valuable for me personally.
This was honestly the best guide I have seen focusing on her. You cleared up the misconceptions surrounding her as well as point her weaknesses and strengths, everything you said was just on point. The way you presented your opinions is very convincing because you so clearly looked into what you said instead of saying what the community wants you to say like some buffoons do. It’s pretty amusing to see that people’s opinions started to change since her release when everyone was so eager to shit on her. And for those who wonder about her performance in abyss, she is pretty darn good. I often find myself subconsciously seeing her as the “safe option/team” and focus to optimise the other team instead because I know she will do good with whatever. You don’t necessarily need Zhongli in her team, diona does just fine but struggles to keep up her shield in floor 12 and that sometimes cause survival issues since you don’t wanna cancel her combo no matter the cost,however, I do want to clarify one essential detail that is often overlooked. Her last hit has a pretty big gap (you can still cast it when she is standing, and in the middle of putting away her weapon) before auto canceling itself meaning it is actually not that much of a concern to vape it. And one last thing to the minority who has and will pull thundering pulse(her weapon) it is even more important to use shimenawa set on her since her weapon passive requires her to stay below 100% energy to have full stacks
I have seen a LOT of theorycrafting guides where essential battle mechanics are being explained and I will say that I like yours best which are very clear to understand, accurate and unbiased.
Yoimiya is very F2P friendly and mobile friendly, you are bound to get a great Shimenawa set when you farm for like 3-4 Emblem sets because so many characters need those, and there is no 4 star spear for Hutao that's as OP as Rust. Yoimiya + Zhongli is like the most convenient daily grind combo on mobile, like you don't need to move much at all XD

Tbh, I'm ashamed to say that I've skipped Yoimiya's first banner even though she is my favorite character. Everything about her concept of fireworks really struck me. Of course, I would like to hear about her kit, her pros and cons from the community. However, I listened to biased content creators that made me skip her. I pulled her on her rerun this time and decided to be skeptical now on which side of community I'm getting insights of. Liked your contents as a tc! Learned some few things now.

Thanks for explaining I know we meme about you being the best but you truly the are. (And I don't just day that to anyone) I suggest following the advice that planning who to pull and not spending money of the game. I got diagonsed with stiff person syndrome and have a hard time pulling off hard rotations (I literally haven't done a ayaka Mona rotation in 3 months properly) And forced to make Unuga Bunga teams. (Mono geo with Noelle, somehow childe/ Ayato, taser etc.) Advance for someone who has to plan on medical bills and stuff plan your pulls. I been playing since launch and have never pulled a unit on release (beside yelan) And got c2 Raiden on her rerun and have massive amount of primos. Play what you like playing and and optimize how you can with spare primos. I know I need to pull yoimiya and Zhongli and wait for the Dendro meta to development and see what you like playing. I didn't pull for any of the liyue 5 stars till their rerun banners and still have a lot of fun and complete content in the game. Plan your pulls and have self control. And don't spend money when their are other things in life you invest in. Don't over hype new units and wait until you are absolutely certain you enjoy them.
Thanks for the objective review. I never even planned to roll for yoimiya but always noticed that on DPS showdowns she would do a similar amount of damage to Hu Tao in single target scenarios, so it didn't feel "right" to just always hear "yoimiya is weak/unusable". She isn't top tier but she can get the job done in certain cases, but most importantly, you really nailed the pros and cons of her kit and also the vape myth. I selfishly hope you'll upload more of those on youtube, unfortunately don't have enough for the whole thing on twitch. See you.

Thanks a lot for the video Zajef! I very much enjoyed it. As he says in the video I can more than confirm that she is good enough that if you like her character you won't regret pulling for her. I got her on release and outside of the triple lector abyss rotation where AoE was pretty much mandatory, she has always been in my teams and contributing hard to get 36* consistently. My favorite team is definitely Yoi + Zhongli + Yelan + Yunjin, a lot of damage and extremely safe. Xingqiu is perfectly good too but Yelan is just so freaking fantastic with her. You said it a bit too but I really want to mention how huge being a ranged DPS is. On a still enemy Hu Tao is definitely stronger, but I use Tao in other people's accounts to do their abyss (because I'm the only one who enjoys doing it lol) and it's so annoying to waste a lot of seconds chasing after enemies because they are away from each other or move around like Kenki. C0 Hu Tao annoys me so much in special due to her stamina issues (Keqing PTSD) to the point I don't have her in my account because she legit feels to me like the only 5* that needs a constellation to be fun, and I ain't doing that. C1 Tao is a blast tho, especially a friend has that with Homa and abyss is not even a challenge, it's a merciless slaugher. I haven't watched your videos on dendro yet but the quick TL;DR at the end made me sad, Collei is absolutely adorable and I was overdosing in hopium that she would mix well with Yoimiya q_q, oh well, on overworld teams will be good enough.

Some clueless people who think they know stuff think that if she didn't have ICD, she'd vape all her shots (tenten logic probz). You explained it so well that there isn't a hydro applicator fast enough for yoimiya's attacks if she didn't have ICD. Heck, just look at Hutao and Yelan.. Yelan actually cannot keep up with a few of Hutao's attacks because she applies pyro faster than yelan does hydro

Yoimiya Burgeon? Glad you asked: The team typically consists of: 💥 Yoi (Xiangling also works if you hate fun) 🌊 Xingqiu (ONLY Xingqiu if you run Yelan you get kidney stones) 🌿 Nahida/Emilie/Dendro Traveler ( ✨ Nahida gives a huge EM buff and triggers more bloom cores but at the cost of vape consistency) (Emilie does significant single target damage herself and applies a low enough amount of Dendro for Yoi to still vape at the cost of generating the lowest amount of cores) (Dendro Traveler is a happy medium between the two, still generating a good amount of blooms in aoe while still allowing you to vape as long as the last unit is something to weaken Burning, as well as giving a an EM buff that while smaller than Nahida's is still significant especially as very high investment where you have enough ER to run Sapwood instead of Fav or Sac I prefer Sac myself for an extra bloom) ⚡ Full EM Kuki/Charlotte/Fav Beidou/Technically Fischl/ Technically Yelan/ Technically Bennett ( ⭐ EM Kuki is by far my favorite of these options as you'll trigger Hyperbloom in situations where Yoi's burst gets deleted by waves spawning in slowly, healing, the ability to let your Dendro spread which matters much less if it's Dendro traveler, and to weaken the burning aura for more cores) (Charlotte is the most gimmicky yet also kinda based option for the last slot as with ttds and her extremely front loaded cryo application she'll allow Yoi to melt her first n5 chain, otherwise just run an electro unit) 🔥 (Fav Beidou will preform quite well in aoe as she gives unparalleled interruption res with Xingqiu) ( ✨ Fischl does good damage and will also weaken Burning similarly to Kuki but she's strictly an offensive option) (Yelan does good single target damage but at that point just play Bennett instead of the Dendro unit because you're FULLY leaning back in to single target) (Same story with Bennett, at that point just play Kazuha instead of Xingqiu and play a mono burning team)
I like to use Bediou with Yoimiya. 1. She can finally hit multiple targets 2. She gets a shield to do max combos without dodging. 3. Electro resistance, so she wont be interrupted in the rain. 4. Can pew pew pew Oceanoid very fast.
I like using Yoimiya as a Beidou driver. Sucrose taser is technically a better team, but it's a lot harder to play. I already spent like 100 hours perfecting animation cancels with Hu Tao, I'm not learning another hard to play character.
Great video overall, but there's two things I'd add *Rotation:* After yelan's release, yoimiya gain access to a vape team with a 18-19s rotation. Yelan's ult cooldown is 18s compared to xingqiu's 21s(and more for his skill). This is big for yoimiya because now she can cut down her rotation time without sacrificing as much damage. RR cancels become more worth it as you're able to squeeze out her three attack strings earlier and restart your rotation without wasting much time. Furthermore, this rotation also doesnt use her elemental burst since the burst increases the rotation duration, so now she can comfortably use shimenawa's and drop all er substats for better stats and personal damage. Yelan doesnt even lose damage from missing out on Yoimiya's A4 buff since she doesn't scale off of attack. In fact, I'm pretty sure Yoimiya's burst is a straight up dps loss when paired with yelan, though I haven't checked with the math. In practical use a shorter rotation allows yoimiya comps to more consistently have their damage windows line up with when bosses are vulnerable, like with the maguu's phase change or when the ruin serpent is above ground. Also, subjectively speaking I find a short rotation really fun and satisfying to play. *Shimenawa:* As for artifacts, 4pc CW USED to be considered her BiS but I think theorycrafters have slowly shifted over to preferring 4pc Shimenawa over the past few months for vape yoimiya. 4pc CW is only better now for taser comps where overload forms a noticeable portion of your damage, and where yoimiya isn't a hypercarry. Even in a standard vape team with zhongli/xingqiu/bennett as well as equivalent stats, shimenawa does about 6% more damage than 4pc CW. This is ignoring how most players will likely have better shimenawa substats due to farming emblem pieces. I THINK the difference is higher with yelan but to be honest I can't say for sure. Check the yoimiya keqingmains guide for more indepth info, its where I got most of the information for this comment. Also let me know if I got anything wrong
You may not "need" two pyro carries, but it still pretty nice. Been running Childe/Bennet/Xiangling/Kazuha and Hu Tao/Xingqiu/Zhongli/Yelan in abyss with no issues for a long time now.
Tip for Yoimiya mains: Yoimiya's normal attack string is best when you do E+N5N5+Esc+Party Setup+Xiangling+Guoba+Pyronado Really informative video though
Burst should usually be cast before rotating through your team, since its bad dps but buffs your team, this also allows you to regain energy for shimenawa when she comes back on the field

I think you're off on the attack speed. She has no hitlag, so she can generally get an extra N3 during her E window without cancelling with C6 Yunjin, and I believe a full 4N5 with Yunjin and Jean C2.
I appreciate the language you use while being honest about a character's pros and cons. Harsh words and trashing on an off-meta unit is an easy way to make people who just want to play their fave disregard you and theorycrafting in general.
Thank you Zajef. I have a question which is maybe dumb (I'll try to ask in a twitch stream): why are there no viable yoimiya melt team? Is it b/c it is worse than vape? are the units available an issue? if so, what about them is problematic (e.g. kaeya's off-field burst, support ganyu (LUL), or some weird ayaka-anemo combo, just spitballing ideas that are probably bad)
It definitely functions, but most of the good off-field cryo units we have rely on short cooldown, high impact skills to be good. Kaeya and Rosaria will be significantly worse if you can't swap into them every 6s to cast their skill, both directly, by losing damage, and indirectly, by generating less energy. Since Yoimiya doesn't want to swap out during her skill, it generally isn't worth using these units. They can still definitely work, but they'll generally be worse than the other choices you have
This has to do with elemental gauge. Basically, pyro attack hits hydro aura and removes half a unit of hydro, leaving some hydro behind. Pyro attack hits cryo aura and consumes 2 units of cryo, leaving pyro behind. When a cryo attack hits pyro aura, it’s the same as vaporize, consuming only half a unit of pyro and leaving some pyro behind. Essentially, it’s really hard to apply enough cryo to consistently melt pyro attacks, and if the pyro ever over takes the cryo, it’s really hard to get enough cryo back onto the enemy. Forward melt (like forward vape) is really good for one big hit (like childe or hu Tao’s bursts) but is bad for sustained dps. This is why there aren’t really any forward melt or vaporize teams.
That as well, my brain went straight to vapemelt teams with xingqiu + cryo but if the question was about melt without hydro it can be difficult to make sure Yoimiya's always the one getting the reaction
The only way I've gotten it to work somewhat consistently is Kazuha/Rosa/Diona(C6) Infuse kazu burst with cryo and Rosa/Diona Burst, and you should be able to melt consistently. If the enemy stays in it... very gimmicky and situational.
I got Yoimiya as a guarantee and have been playing her for a few hours. As a Hu Tao main, Yoi really is different. I’m not used to not vaping everytime and the constant left clicking is causing me fatigue 😅 but, she is easier to play, and her personality and aesthetics is the best in the game IMO.
The best take on this. Great content! Edit: i LOVE yoimiya because she is great at taking out your main target as long as they arent being surrounded by enemies. She also doesnt need bennet due to yun jun. Also dendro reaction with pyro dealing aoe could change everything and make her tripple S tier Edit2: if you are a gigawhale i actually think attack cancelling is less problematic with c6 because it will offset your reactions anyways
Random though: what if there was a hydro unit very similar to xiangling that applied a big hit of hydro relatively slow without icd, would that make a forward vaping team with burning viable?!?
As someone who is going to pull for her for waifu reasons, I just wanna say that you dont need to hit the seeds on burgeon teams but hit the enemies near the seeds so, if youre brave enough, a hybrid of normal Yoi build but with a lot of EM for a burgeon build could work.
burgeon absolutely works, her ult aoe is large enough to hit the seeds, and if anything - she hits them while onfielding too, i played burgeon yoimiya at floor 12-1 first half and didn't face any problems
Talking about Yoimiya's icd, her 1st hit on her 2nd NA rotation (and on) will be applying pyro again coz of the 2,5s icd rule. If Yoimiya is paired with c6 Yunjin, will the attack speed buff ruin Yoimiya's vape pattern/timing? Will it reduce Yoimiya's damage instead of increasing it?
Jk btw, it's very good video. I wouldn't recommend pulling Yoimiya for meta reasons and I would definitelly not recommend pulling Thundering Pulse for her. I did pull both, I regret nothing, but I'm "Yoimiya simp" and that's all the reason I had. Because even if you want to pull Yoimiya, because you "kinda like her", but you don't want to sink endless resin into her, here's the problem. There is super economic thing you can do and that's to give her Shimenawa, because you probably want Emblem. It makes the Emblem domain even more valuable for your. But if you play Shimenawa, there are some gameplay implications of playing Shimenawa AND TP together. I don't want to go in-depth, but tl;dr: it sucks. But unless you want to play Yoimiya with Yun Jin, you get nothing of value from Archaic Petra, which you get while farming Bolide for her (which is probably your best option if you have TP). Given how good Rust is, the ratio of effort vs. gain is REAL bad for TP. PS: if you don't have Zhongli, I low key pity you and Thundering Pulse is even worse for you, because Bolide is worse for you and so is Yun Jin (Zhongli + Yun Jin = geo res) ... :D
And one more thing. If you play Yun Jin, you probably play Zhongli, Yun Jin, Bennett and Yoimiya, and if you also play Bolide (you farmed it with Petra), you build Zhongli for damage ... because you can, you have two shield strength buffs. That's because it's surprisingly bit better to drop the vape, rather than the pyro res + Noblesse + Bennett burst afaik, because everybody is buffed by geo res (Zhongli and Yun Jin benefit from geo res shred) and Yoimiya is buffed by pyro res, geo res, Yun Jin and Bennett for the full duration of her E on ALL attacks (vape is every other hit and can get offset), so it sort of evens out I guess. And here I think things get "constellation dependant". If you have C6 Yun Jin and below C6 Xingqiu, it sounds good, but it might not be worth it if you have below C6 Yun Jin and C6 Xingqiu. Both of their C6 buffs are pretty big. It may also shift a little depending on how much damage you can build on Zhongli with the shield str buff lowering his HP requirement + geo res shred (basically, do you have Staff of Homa? :D). That's just food for thought. It can matter if you wonder about Bolide vs. Shimenawa.
Great vid, always look forward to these. About burgeon though, from leak vids it looked like Yoimiya was able to trigger burgeon just by hitting an enemy that was near the seed, not directly on the seed. Which would make sense because it would be really dumb of them to make her not work in that type of team. But obviously take this with a grain of salt.
Great guide. I realized that Aqua comes at rank 2 right after TP too. Really strong option. But I still got the TP since I am a stupid whale after a year of missing out. Now the Aqua is on my Fischl with her new skin. Optically it is a match made in heaven holy crap. I need though to test still if it's the best option. But I can't imagine it being terrible on her. With artifacts, I think that the Echoes set has at least on paper the highest DPS. But I overlooked that ping messes that thing up. And I have a ping of 10 or so. So it doesn't affect me.
I noticed you didn't mentioned Beidou at all during this video. Does her proc rate not line up well enough to justify including her, or is it a case of "Just run Sucrose tazer"? I'd figure running Beidou (and Fischl, because Beidou is practically married to Fischl) would help Yoimiya out in like current 12-2-2 where there are 2-3 bulky enemies.
Biggest issue with Beidou is that it's hard to justify running her without Fischl, and once you have Fischl, Beidou and Xingqiu, Yoimiya's presence is the team is generally not as valuable as having Sucrose. In other words, they can definitely work together if you really want to play Yoi in aoe, but otherwise Yoi's best teams don't include Beidou and Beidou's best teams don't inclue Yoi. Definitely the case for this abyss, if you want to play Yoimiya I'd recommend her on side 1, but if you REALLY want to use her on side 2, Beidou will help you get through the chamber

I'm hoping Nahida's E works like Raiden's and see if Yoimiya can do some crazy shit like burning + burgeon or something as more chars are released. I do think she'll see more use as dendro matures.
What happened to me recently is that, because I like to play permafrost/monocryo in one side and rational in the other, the abyss has created a situation where I want singletarget in one team and multitarget pyro in the other, thing is, im already using my Xiangling in the other team, so recently I had to rely on Venti and a pyro unit like Diluc or Xinyan to apply the pyro on his burst and it was really weird, thankfully I have Yelan so the option that has been working really well for me is to use double hydro with Raiden in the singletarget side and Venti with Bennett and Xiangling in the multitarget pyro, but I can see someone with the idea of needing another pyro carry if their Xiangling is stuck in the single target side, hoyo planned this preciselly for people who play rational to think that they need another pyro carry, tricky bastards.
dps wise, yoimiya is not really that far behind hu tao, what make hu tao hypercarry is she also have a burst that you can spike damage with, which is increasingly important because MHY for some goddang reason like to create stupid boss with insanely long i frames (T_T )... hu tao ability to shotgun damage with her Q is what make her abit more valuable than Klee and Yoimiya. hu tao consistantly does the highest 1 hit damage (not DPS, but "damage per screenshot") for pyro, like 300k. why i would pick yoimiya over hu tao, would only be because she is easier to play, hu tao is a pain to play if you only play her occasionally, i used to be very good at playing hu tao, but I struggle after not playing her awhile to get the timing back. yoimiya is a much more "swappable" character, including having less restriction teamwise since you don't have to worry about healer healing u... this video conclusion not only match mine but are also very indepth. it a 5/5 video.

her niche is just so-so... like she only have 25% where she'll be at her best. 15% she'll be good in overworld bosses -but overworld boss are just easy that anyone can fulfill the role-, 10% would be from single or few enemies in the abyss. Unlike venti's niche, who is beast in suck-able, yoi's niche is about or a little above compared to anyone else. Niche chars are ok, not technically bad, it's just other chars would be better. If you don't care about abyss, then anyone is fine. If you're low spender or nonspender and care for clearing abyss, better kits are the best. depending whether some on is worth it, should depend on your character roster. anyone is fine in their right team. You'll just learn how to play them at their best, and adjust at their worst, or use other characters in your roster.
I dunno about 25%. Yoimiya has been a permanent member in my abyss teams since 2.0. Not a single abyss reset was she benched out. She's niche if only you consider her niche, which by all means, is definitely true for most f2ps who only want to roll on meta characters. But most f2ps who've got her, have incorporated her into their abyss teams for ease and flexibility. And most of them prefer her comfort, ease and decent damage. She'd be niche if she was rarely used, or rarely usable. But it's the opposite. She's quite popular and flexible in almost every f12 reset since 2.0 due to bosses, plus aerial and mid-range enemies, further the ranged weaker time-consuming enemies. And it'll most likely stay that way.
@@fangservicex2964 if you look at recent abyss it's actually around 33% floor where she's really good at For the 2.6 one it's the kenki and array and as for this one its the cryo cube and serpent. Now I would argue that hutao is still better than her against kenki and cryo cube but she wins at ruin serpent and array. So that's like 1/3 of the floor 12 content she's really good at and 1/6 of the content she's the best.
Just me, but I think Yoimiya might have a niche on Burgeon teams by abusing the property of her burst (which is AOE) to only trigger when others attack it, triggerring a chain reaction, and she can do it at range. But then, Yanfei can do the same job using her CA.

A bit of a precision : for Yoimiya's sets, even though none of the sets is massively ahead enough of the others for her to really have a signature set, Shimenawa does often end up slightly outperforming the other options. Since it shares a domain with Emblem, it's pretty likely you already have or will soon have good Shimenawa's pieces, which means a 4p Shimenawa will very often be the best thing you can put on her. I just wanted to insist on the fact that the difference isn't really that big, so if you don't have a good 4 set or if you like being able to use your burst as a panic button, you won't get punished too much for using another set

Yoimiya's auto targeting is so weird because sometimes she will miss an enemy in front of her and other times she'll do shit like hitting hillichurls in top of towers with her NAs while she's on the ground
I've just seen a video where Yoimiya's NA hit an enemy BEHIND her without facing them. Like, she literally shot the arrow backwards and honestly what the fuck lol. I really wish her NAs had some sort of auto tracking in the air

i pulled yoimiya even though i had a hu tao. first of all i love her char design second of all the simple nature of her playstyle really sells her for me. when you are in the overworld you dont really care about good rotations or vaping your biggest hits everything dies with one kazuha e anyway. i just wanna have a chill character.

This was honestly the best guide I have seen focusing on her. You cleared up the misconceptions surrounding her as well as point her weaknesses and strengths, everything you said was just on point. The way you presented your opinions is very convincing because you so clearly looked into what you said instead of saying what the community wants you to say like some buffoons do. It’s pretty amusing to see that people’s opinions started to change since her release when everyone was so eager to shit on her.
And for those who wonder about her performance in abyss, she is pretty darn good. I often find myself subconsciously seeing her as the “safe option/team” and focus to optimise the other team instead because I know she will do good with whatever. You don’t necessarily need Zhongli in her team, diona does just fine but struggles to keep up her shield in floor 12 and that sometimes cause survival issues since you don’t wanna cancel her combo no matter the cost,however, I do want to clarify one essential detail that is often overlooked. Her last hit has a pretty big gap (you can still cast it when she is standing, and in the middle of putting away her weapon) before auto canceling itself meaning it is actually not that much of a concern to vape it.
And one last thing to the minority who has and will pull thundering pulse(her weapon) it is even more important to use shimenawa set on her since her weapon passive requires her to stay below 100% energy to have full stacks

I have seen a LOT of theorycrafting guides where essential battle mechanics are being explained and I will say that I like yours best which are very clear to understand, accurate and unbiased.
Yoimiya is very F2P friendly and mobile friendly, you are bound to get a great Shimenawa set when you farm for like 3-4 Emblem sets because so many characters need those, and there is no 4 star spear for Hutao that's as OP as Rust. Yoimiya + Zhongli is like the most convenient daily grind combo on mobile, like you don't need to move much at all XD

Tbh, I'm ashamed to say that I've skipped Yoimiya's first banner even though she is my favorite character. Everything about her concept of fireworks really struck me. Of course, I would like to hear about her kit, her pros and cons from the community. However, I listened to biased content creators that made me skip her. I pulled her on her rerun this time and decided to be skeptical now on which side of community I'm getting insights of. Liked your contents as a tc! Learned some few things now.

Thanks for explaining I know we meme about you being the best but you truly the are. (And I don't just day that to anyone) I suggest following the advice that planning who to pull and not spending money of the game. I got diagonsed with stiff person syndrome and have a hard time pulling off hard rotations (I literally haven't done a ayaka Mona rotation in 3 months properly) And forced to make Unuga Bunga teams. (Mono geo with Noelle, somehow childe/ Ayato, taser etc.) Advance for someone who has to plan on medical bills and stuff plan your pulls. I been playing since launch and have never pulled a unit on release (beside yelan) And got c2 Raiden on her rerun and have massive amount of primos. Play what you like playing and and optimize how you can with spare primos. I know I need to pull yoimiya and Zhongli and wait for the Dendro meta to development and see what you like playing.
I didn't pull for any of the liyue 5 stars till their rerun banners and still have a lot of fun and complete content in the game. Plan your pulls and have self control. And don't spend money when their are other things in life you invest in. Don't over hype new units and wait until you are absolutely certain you enjoy them.
Thanks for the objective review. I never even planned to roll for yoimiya but always noticed that on DPS showdowns she would do a similar amount of damage to Hu Tao in single target scenarios, so it didn't feel "right" to just always hear "yoimiya is weak/unusable". She isn't top tier but she can get the job done in certain cases, but most importantly, you really nailed the pros and cons of her kit and also the vape myth. As he says in the video I can more than confirm that she is good enough that if you like her character you won't regret pulling for her. I got her on release and outside of the triple lector abyss rotation where AoE was pretty much mandatory, she has always been in my teams and contributing hard to get 36* consistently.
My favorite team is definitely Yoi + Zhongli + Yelan + Yunjin, a lot of damage and extremely safe. Xingqiu is perfectly good too but Yelan is just so freaking fantastic with her.
You said it a bit too but I really want to mention how huge being a ranged DPS is. On a still enemy Hu Tao is definitely stronger, but I use Tao in other people's accounts to do their abyss (because I'm the only one who enjoys doing it lol) and it's so annoying to waste a lot of seconds chasing after enemies because they are away from each other or move around like Kenki. C0 Hu Tao annoys me so much in special due to her stamina issues (Keqing PTSD) to the point I don't have her in my account because she legit feels to me like the only 5* that needs a constellation to be fun, and I ain't doing that. C1 Tao is a blast tho, especially a friend has that with Homa and abyss is not even a challenge, it's a merciless slaugher.
I haven't watched your videos on dendro yet but the quick TL;DR at the end made me sad, Collei is absolutely adorable and I was overdosing in hopium that she would mix well with Yoimiya q_q, oh well, on overworld teams will be good enough.

💥 Yoi (Xiangling also works if you hate fun)
🌊 Xingqiu (ONLY Xingqiu if you run Yelan you get kidney stones)
🌿 Nahida/Emilie/Dendro Traveler ( ✨ Nahida gives a huge EM buff and triggers more bloom cores but at the cost of vape consistency) (Emilie does significant single target damage herself and applies a low enough amount of Dendro for Yoi to still vape at the cost of generating the lowest amount of cores) (Dendro Traveler is a happy medium between the two, still generating a good amount of blooms in aoe while still allowing you to vape as long as the last unit is something to weaken Burning, as well as giving a an EM buff that while smaller than Nahida's is still significant especially as very high investment where you have enough ER to run Sapwood instead of Fav or Sac I prefer Sac myself for an extra bloom)
⚡ Full EM Kuki/Charlotte/Fav Beidou/Technically Fischl/ Technically Yelan/ Technically Bennett ( ⭐ EM Kuki is by far my favorite of these options as you'll trigger Hyperbloom in situations where Yoi's burst gets deleted by waves spawning in slowly, healing, the ability to let your Dendro spread which matters much less if it's Dendro traveler, and to weaken the burning aura for more cores) (Charlotte is the most gimmicky yet also kinda based option for the last slot as with ttds and her extremely front loaded cryo application she'll allow Yoi to melt her first n5 chain, otherwise just run an electro unit)
🔥 (Fav Beidou will preform quite well in aoe as she gives unparalleled interruption res with Xingqiu) ( ✨ Fischl does good damage and will also weaken Burning similarly to Kuki but she's strictly an offensive option) (Yelan does good single target damage but at that point just play Bennett instead of the Dendro unit because you're FULLY leaning back in to single target) (Same story with Bennett, at that point just play Kazuha instead of Xingqiu and play a mono burning team)

I like using Yoimiya as a Beidou driver. Sucrose taser is technically a better team, but it's a lot harder to play. I already spent like 100 hours perfecting animation cancels with Hu Tao, I'm not learning another hard to play character.

Great video overall, but there's two things I'd add
*Rotation:*
After yelan's release, yoimiya gain access to a vape team with a 18-19s rotation. Yelan's ult cooldown is 18s compared to xingqiu's 21s(and more for his skill). This is big for yoimiya because now she can cut down her rotation time without sacrificing as much damage.
RR cancels become more worth it as you're able to squeeze out her three attack strings earlier and restart your rotation without wasting much time.
Furthermore, this rotation also doesnt use her elemental burst since the burst increases the rotation duration, so now she can comfortably use shimenawa's and drop all er substats for better stats and personal damage. Yelan doesnt even lose damage from missing out on Yoimiya's A4 buff since she doesn't scale off of attack. In fact, I'm pretty sure Yoimiya's burst is a straight up dps loss when paired with yelan, though I haven't checked with the math.
In practical use a shorter rotation allows yoimiya comps to more consistently have their damage windows line up with when bosses are vulnerable, like with the maguu's phase change or when the ruin serpent is above ground.
Also, subjectively speaking I find a short rotation really fun and satisfying to play.
*Shimenawa:*
As for artifacts, 4pc CW USED to be considered her BiS but I think theorycrafters have slowly shifted over to preferring 4pc Shimenawa over the past few months for vape yoimiya. 4pc CW is only better now for taser comps where overload forms a noticeable portion of your damage, and where yoimiya isn't a hypercarry. Even in a standard vape team with zhongli/xingqiu/bennett as well as equivalent stats, shimenawa does about 6% more damage than 4pc CW. This is ignoring how most players will likely have better shimenawa substats due to farming emblem pieces.
I THINK the difference is higher with yelan but to be honest I can't say for sure.

You may not "need" two pyro carries, but it still pretty nice. Been running Childe/Bennet/Xiangling/Kazuha and Hu Tao/Xingqiu/Zhongli/Yelan in abyss with no issues for a long time now.

She has no hitlag, so she can generally get an extra N3 during her E window without cancelling with C6 Yunjin, and I believe a full 4N5 with Yunjin and Jean C2.

I like to use yoimiya for bosses, she can deal with most of them pretty seamless, there are just a few were she struggles.

Thank you Zajef. I have a question which is maybe dumb (I'll try to ask in a twitch stream): why are there no viable yoimiya melt team? Is it b/c it is worse than vape? are the units available an issue? if so, what about them is problematic (e.g. kaeya's off-field burst, support ganyu (LUL), or some weird ayaka-anemo combo, just spitballing ideas that are probably bad)
It definitely functions, but most of the good off-field cryo units we have rely on short cooldown, high impact skills to be good. Kaeya and Rosaria will be significantly worse if you can't swap into them every 6s to cast their skill, both directly, by losing damage, and indirectly, by generating less energy. Since Yoimiya doesn't want to swap out during her skill, it generally isn't worth using these units. They can still definitely work, but they'll generally be worse than the other choices you have
This has to do with elemental gauge. Basically, pyro attack hits hydro aura and removes half a unit of hydro, leaving some hydro behind. Pyro attack hits cryo aura and consumes 2 units of cryo, leaving pyro behind. When a cryo attack hits pyro aura, it’s the same as vaporize, consuming only half a unit of pyro and leaving some pyro behind. Essentially, it’s really hard to apply enough cryo to consistently melt pyro attacks, and if the pyro ever over takes the cryo, it’s really hard to get enough cryo back onto the enemy. Forward melt (like forward vape) is really good for one big hit (like childe or hu Tao’s bursts) but is bad for sustained dps. This is why there aren’t really any forward melt or vaporize teams.
That as well, my brain went straight to vapemelt teams with xingqiu + cryo but if the question was about melt without hydro it can be difficult to make sure Yoimiya's always the one getting the reaction
The only way I've gotten it to work somewhat consistently is Kazuha/Rosa/Diona(C6) Infuse kazu burst with cryo and Rosa/Diona Burst, and you should be able to melt consistently. If the enemy stays in it... very gimmicky and situational.

I got Yoimiya as a guarantee and have been playing her for a few hours. As a Hu Tao main, Yoi really is different. I’m not used to not vaping everytime and the constant left clicking is causing me fatigue 😅 but, she is easier to play, and her personality and aesthetics is the best in the game IMO.

Edit: i LOVE yoimiya because she is great at taking out your main target as long as they arent being surrounded by enemies. She also doesnt need bennet due to yun jun.
Also dendro reaction with pyro dealing aoe could change everything and make her tripple S tier

Sadly it’s not likely. Even 1U of consistent hydro would be too much and would remove the burning aura. Jean sunfire could work there though.
I think there's only Childe who can apply enough hydro for that case but his international team is enough :)

As someone who is going to pull for her for waifu reasons, I just wanna say that you dont need to hit the seeds on burgeon teams but hit the enemies near the seeds so, if youre brave enough, a hybrid of normal Yoi build but with a lot of EM for a burgeon build could work.
burgeon absolutely works, her ult aoe is large enough to hit the seeds, and if anything - she hits them while onfielding too, i played burgeon yoimiya at floor 12-1 first half and didn't face any problems
Talking about Yoimiya's icd, her 1st hit on her 2nd NA rotation (and on) will be applying pyro again coz of the 2,5s icd rule. If Yoimiya is paired with c6 Yunjin, will the attack speed buff ruin Yoimiya's vape pattern/timing? Will it reduce Yoimiya's damage instead of increasing it?
Yoimiya is good Single target pyro dps, easy to use but... Hu Tao is in top of the food chain

Jk btw, it's very good video. I wouldn't recommend pulling Yoimiya for meta reasons and I would definitelly not recommend pulling Thundering Pulse for her. I did pull both, I regret nothing, but I'm "Yoimiya simp" and that's all the reason I had. Because even if you want to pull Yoimiya, because you "kinda like her", but you don't want to sink endless resin into her, here's the problem. There is super economic thing you can do and that's to give her Shimenawa, because you probably want Emblem. It makes the Emblem domain even more valuable for your. But if you play Shimenawa, there are some gameplay implications of playing Shimenawa AND TP together. I don't want to go in-depth, but tl;dr: it sucks. But unless you want to play Yoimiya with Yun Jin, you get nothing of value from Archaic Petra, which you get while farming Bolide for her (which is probably your best option if you have TP). Given how good Rust is, the ratio of effort vs. gain is REAL bad for TP.
PS: if you don't have Zhongli, I low key pity you and Thundering Pulse is even worse for you, because Bolide is worse for you and so is Yun Jin (Zhongli + Yun Jin = geo res) ... :D
And one more thing. If you play Yun Jin, you probably play Zhongli, Yun Jin, Bennett and Yoimiya, and if you also play Bolide (you farmed it with Petra), you build Zhongli for damage ... because you can, you have two shield strength buffs. That's because it's surprisingly bit better to drop the vape, rather than the pyro res + Noblesse + Bennett burst afaik, because everybody is buffed by geo res (Zhongli and Yun Jin benefit from geo res shred) and Yoimiya is buffed by pyro res, geo res, Yun Jin and Bennett for the full duration of her E on ALL attacks (vape is every other hit and can get offset), so it sort of evens out I guess. And here I think things get "constellation dependant". If you have C6 Yun Jin and below C6 Xingqiu, it sounds good, but it might not be worth it if you have below C6 Yun Jin and C6 Xingqiu. Both of their C6 buffs are pretty big. It may also shift a little depending on how much damage you can build on Zhongli with the shield str buff lowering his HP requirement + geo res shred (basically, do you have Staff of Homa? :D). That's just food for thought. It can matter if you wonder about Bolide vs. Shimenawa.

About burgeon though, from leak vids it looked like Yoimiya was able to trigger burgeon just by hitting an enemy that was near the seed, not directly on the seed. Which would make sense because it would be really dumb of them to make her not work in that type of team. But obviously take this with a grain of salt.
Great guide. I realized that Aqua comes at rank 2 right after TP too. Really strong option. But I still got the TP since I am a stupid whale after a year of missing out. Now the Aqua is on my Fischl with her new skin. Optically it is a match made in heaven holy crap. I need though to test still if it's the best option. But I can't imagine it being terrible on her.
With artifacts, I think that the Echoes set has at least on paper the highest DPS. But I overlooked that ping messes that thing up. And I have a ping of 10 or so. So it doesn't affect me.

I noticed you didn't mentioned Beidou at all during this video. Does her proc rate not line up well enough to justify including her, or is it a case of "Just run Sucrose tazer"? I'd figure running Beidou (and Fischl, because Beidou is practically married to Fischl) would help Yoimiya out in like current 12-2-2 where there are 2-3 bulky enemies.

Biggest issue with Beidou is that it's hard to justify running her without Fischl, and once you have Fischl, Beidou and Xingqiu, Yoimiya's presence is the team is generally not as valuable as having Sucrose. In other words, they can definitely work together if you really want to play Yoi in aoe, but otherwise Yoi's best teams don't include Beidou and Beidou's best teams don't inclue Yoi.
Definitely the case for this abyss, if you want to play Yoimiya I'd recommend her on side 1, but if you REALLY want to use her on side 2, Beidou will help you get through the chamber

I just find it funny how everyone called her "the worst character" when she came out but now have finally softened on her and realized why she is actually very useful and sometimes even preferable.
calling her the worst is just wrong, but she really ain't that good and people should only really pull if they like her character and that's it, if you want a good pyro carry xiangling is literally free
she's not that versatile and they should only pull her if they like her or they really need a good single target dps

What happened to me recently is that, because I like to play permafrost/monocryo in one side and rational in the other, the abyss has created a situation where I want singletarget in one team and multitarget pyro in the other, thing is, im already using my Xiangling in the other team, so recently I had to rely on Venti and a pyro unit like Diluc or Xinyan to apply the pyro on his burst and it was really weird, thankfully I have Yelan so the option that has been working really well for me is to use double hydro with Raiden in the singletarget side and Venti with Bennett and Xiangling in the multitarget pyro, but I can see someone with the idea of needing another pyro carry if their Xiangling is stuck in the single target side, hoyo planned this preciselly for people who play rational to think that they need another pyro carry, tricky bastards.
dps wise, yoimiya is not really that far behind hu tao, what make hu tao hypercarry is she also have a burst that you can spike damage with, which is increasingly important because MHY for some goddang reason like to create stupid boss with insanely long i frames (T_T )... hu tao ability to shotgun damage with her Q is what make her abit more valuable than Klee and Yoimiya. hu tao consistantly does the highest 1 hit damage (not DPS, but "damage per screenshot") for pyro, like 300k. why i would pick yoimiya over hu tao, would only be because she is easier to play, hu tao is a pain to play if you only play her occasionally, i used to be very good at playing hu tao, but I struggle after not playing her awhile to get the timing back. yoimiya is a much more "swappable" character, including having less restriction teamwise since you don't have to worry about healer healing u...

her niche is just so-so... like she only have 25% where she'll be at her best. 15% she'll be good in overworld bosses -but overworld boss are just easy that anyone can fulfill the role-, 10% would be from single or few enemies in the abyss. Unlike venti's niche, who is beast in suck-able, yoi's niche is about or a little above compared to anyone else. Niche chars are ok, not technically bad, it's just other chars would be better. If you don't care about abyss, then anyone is fine. If you're low spender or nonspender and care for clearing abyss, better kits are the best.
depending whether some on is worth it, should depend on your character roster. anyone is fine in their right team. You'll just learn how to play them at their best, and adjust at their worst, or use other characters in your roster.
I dunno about 25%. Yoimiya has been a permanent member in my abyss teams since 2.0. Not a single abyss reset was she benched out. She's niche if only you consider her niche, which by all means, is definitely true for most f2ps who only want to roll on meta characters. But most f2ps who've got her, have incorporated her into their abyss teams for ease and flexibility. And most of them prefer her comfort, ease and decent damage. She'd be niche if she was rarely used, or rarely usable. But it's the opposite. She's quite popular and flexible in almost every f12 reset since 2.0 due to bosses, plus aerial and mid-range enemies, further the ranged weaker time-consuming enemies. And it'll most likely stay that way.

For the 2.6 one it's the kenki and array and as for this one its the cryo cube and serpent. Now I would argue that hutao is still better than her against kenki and cryo cube but she wins at ruin serpent and array.
So that's like 1/3 of the floor 12 content she's really good at and 1/6 of the content she's the best.
Just me, but I think Yoimiya might have a niche on Burgeon teams by abusing the property of her burst (which is AOE) to only trigger when others attack it, triggerring a chain reaction, and she can do it at range.
But then, Yanfei can do the same job using her CA.
