    3:06 when i scale the image 6 times its size it turns back to the original look instead of preserving the pixelated style. What do i do? (i already selected the nearest neighbor option and keep having the same problem) nice vid

      Ik I already helped you in DMs but I'll type out the solution here in case anyone else needs it:
      When you import an image into photoshop you have to make sure the image layer is RASTERIZED by right clicking and selecting "rasterize" in the menu.
      Imported images are made into smart objects by default and smart objects keep the resolution the same nomatter what you do with it, so you have to make sure the image is a normal layer, not a smart object.

    best method I've seen yet, a damn shame the first thing that pops up when you look up how to do this is just to put a pattern overlay and lower the opacity

      Yea, I think I know which vid ur talking abt. I liked the pattern overlay that guy was doing, but the end result was disappointing. I kinda adopted that pattern overlay Idea and just took it further until I got what I actually wanted for this method.

    love this tutorial!! using the pattern is genius. i think if you want to make the resolution 6x larger, you can just type *6 after the current number to multiply it!

  • @zals9829
    @zals9829  3 года назад +26

    Just adding that the Image doesn't need to be within a 240p resolution. It will work at any size. I'm just saying that if you're using a high resolution then you won't really see the effect unless you zoom in by a lot.

      You could also scale up the scan line pattern of you have a higher resolution, no?
      Instead of 3 x 6 you do 9 x 18, etc.

    • @zals9829
      @zals9829  3 года назад +2

      Torbjørn Nordgaren The function of the pattern as it is, is that two 3x6 patterns together (which makes a 6x6 square) accounts for exactly one pixel on your image, hence why I scaled the image up 6x. If you have a pattern that’s 9x18 you would need to scale your image up 18x before applying the scan line pattern, but you will get that same result if you just multiply the image with the 3x6 scan line effect on (just the raw scan line effect, no blur effects on it yet) by multiples of two with nearest neighbor turned on.

    Thank you for sharing, fantastic results! Was following and applying this to my 4k mario 64 RT screenshots. Took a little bit of trial and error to get a good pattern size, though might need to slightly tweak the white/grey/black areas. Really pleased with the results.
