This isn't just the worst game of 2021, it's the worst shooter I've played in a decade or so. For all of the reasons you mentioned and more. This review is so spot on. The only redeeming quality in the entire game is the crafting system.

I think personality can go a long way when it comes to the overall appeal and “feel” of the game. For any faults Destiny 2 might have, the game actually has a fair bit of personality, extensive lore and has earned a fair bit of nostalgia with a breadth of memorable loot items. Outriders feels like some kind of weird hybrid of some prototype Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, mixed with a little Borderlands and a smidge of Anthem, but with more bullet sponges and crappier movement and gunplay.

I played the game once as Technomancer, thought it was fun enough, and.... predictably never touched it after finishing the main story. I just want to say that BIG SAME about the weapon perks. If the name of the game is "Keep firing Blighted rounds infinitely, and reloading means you lose Blighted Rounds" then, well, screw reload perks. I figured out pretty early that you basically had to cram as much DPS into the bullet mods as you could.
I'll be honest; the endgame focus is what ruins these games. I know, I know, SOME people love it, and I'm not saying it shouldn't exist, but when you play through the entire game and get mostly garbage, not really getting to fully engage with the game, because that's all being saved for the hyper-repetitive endgame, it ironically creates the very excuse they use for that decision--few people make it that far because they made it too boring, but they think it just proves that they should cater only to those that do. I still managed to enjoy the Borderlands games, but far less than other people because I got to enjoy so little of the high-tier stuff. But do I want to play with those guns and mechanics so bad that I replay the game 7 times and grind superbosses? Fuck no. Leave that shit to actual MMOs.

It looks like they tried to smash Destiny 2 and Mass Effect 2 together and just ended up with a pile of slavjank. It seems like all the recent Squenix games have just been soulless shit that has just missed the point and failed to understand why other games in the genre are successful.

It's always fun to see a game come out and be irrelevant in about a few days. It's the worst mechanics and aspects of the current idea of what publishers specifically want from a looter shooter and somebody with terrible ideas of their own decided to make a game out of it.
I tried the demo and decided based on the gameplay and some gut feelings based on having played a lot in this genre that I wouldn't get it. A lot of this endgame stuff where it's just the same kind of "just kill everything" with zero mechanics, with balance that causes build diversity issues, is stuff I thought might happen. That and the bigger issue that, like you said, the core gameplay loop just doesn't feel good. The movement is not great, the shooting is mediocre, and the abilities are good. Sadly it is a looter shooter, and having mediocre shooting kind of kills it even with good abilities. Then there's the enemy melee staggering you, enemies body block you, enemies never miss or have to reload, etc. It's just not good enough compared to the core gameplay of other games like Destiny or even Borderlands.
I agree. Didn't care for this game, but got sucked in by graphics and a sale. I regret buying it. Boring, bland, generic shooter I'll never play again. I should have trusted my instincts.

The greatest things about games today is the wildly contrasting views on them. I personally enjoy this game as do the friends I play with, and then I watch tubers that have the same views as me, and then come across videos like this. It's really what makes gaming great IMO.
I think this game was pretty fun for about 20-25 hours. I finished the campaign and then I was done. Around that time the repetiveness gets to you. I played pyro. I would recommend it if you want to play a decently fun shooter looter for the campaign. But dont pick Devastator like Synth said
There's character customization for Commander Shepard from Mass Effect as well, who is also an established original character. That was a dumb point on your part. They wrote the signal down on their hand so they could relay the information to the team when they got back to camp since electronics were going crazy. I get that you don't care about the story enough to pay attention to it. So maybe don't review it since you're in no position to do so?
lmao there is a difference between shephard and the outrider. shephard can have his backstory be different and you have your own shephard make different decisions. the outrider does not. his lines are all set in stone. there is no way to make him or act different.

I with you on this review... have logged in twice on ps5 and the first day was spent trying to connect, the second time was ok made it to like lol 9. After the experience and all the talk of inventory wipes I was like screw this, but ps customer support said no refunds offered and I had to much playtime according to ps policies anyway.
The most contradicting thing just from watching the Outriders story playthroughs is that they advertise it like it's about a special group, yet the story makes it so that all the Outriders are killed off and the player is basically THE LAST OUTRIDER in existence and the only one with powers who sided with the main faction, plus they make such a dramatic edgy deal out of it. That means multiplayer makes no sense and other Outriders don't exist. HELLO!? It's called Outriders, with an S. This isn't Avatar the Last Airbender. I know it's been long since Outriders came out, but even today it still makes me cringe and videos that roast it comfort me a little.

I would rather have weapon rarity based on Borderlands games (preferably BL2) with legendary weapons having special effects, but mainly because it’s better than Destiny’s power level/light level as you could get high light level but stats are sh!t. However in destiny, the higher your light level, the more content is open for you such as heroic missions and raids.
6 months ago people said this should have came out and got full attention over avengers...... 6months later Avengers is played more and has more players currently with actual end game content and mechanics I never understood why people dick smoked this game so much 😂 and I would say you like destiny cause it has more than just looting in the game with the PVP aspect your loot actually can be used for something after the story sometimes you gotta take that into account
constructive criticism at it's finest... I'm with it, and even agree with a lot of the points made, the gameplay loop could be better for sure, even optimized a bit. Still if you're a looter shooter fan you may enjoy it, maybe not if you're into exclusively fps though. try the demo, see if it's for you, make your own final judgement. I'll hold off on buying it personally until it's discounted and some bugs are ironed out.
There’s so many other games out there that deserve our money and time especially if like myself u look at older titles and don’t need to be playing the latest releases day 1! A good thing with this is obviously getting cheap games in sales but also they are mostly in playable states by the time I play them! Sad to say but these days sooo many games come out way to early broken buggy and rushed! By waiting awhile u don’t have to deal with the early day issues and u get the game cheaper. The game is trash from a gameplay and technical stand point but I was melting through everything at WT 11 and character level 17 as a devastator. You likely weren't geared properly.
for me who was waiting for a new gears of wars 2 or 3 with abilities it is the worst disappointment of the year ... so all you say is true and this game is trash ... play 5h and ask for reimbursement, you do not talk about the linear map, the way your move who is totally has-been and weird , and get a level who can happen at any time and for example just before a final boss and then will exterminate you in a blink. (tier 5 to 6 in 5 i almost os the boss i redo the mission and pass tier 6 just before it, i stay 2h in the room dying in loop) , and when you need to take cover oh my god it is so so bad you need to target a wall to and select it to take cover what is simply awful. These peoples never play division 2 or any gears of wars or even mass effect. This game is just a pile of trash. It has no soul and the story is even more bad than the gameplay ... a pure horror.
If people enjoy it for the time being, fine but just think about the message it sends to devs and publisher of how most basic and uninspired you can make a game and still get 60$ from players.
I can't comment on the voice lines or cutscenes. I literally skipped every cutscene bar the tutorial and opening in the Demo. You could tell all that story was shit. Fuck, the preview from last year, people already said the story seemed like it was gonna be ass. This game is getting 7-8's purely because it's out now. If it would have came out next month, resident 8, R-type, Necromunda, etc. this game would have gotten 4-5's due to just launch issues. Competition really matters. Devastor has an equivalent bullet build where golem skin ramps firepower to obscene levels just fyi. Its the same premise as a bullet enhancement build. Pop golem skin, ramp firepower, keep killing to sustain dmg. To be fair i still think this game is super mediocre and not worth the asking price. Also best loot in endgame isnt correct. Theres no difference betwern the loot at the end than the beginning. Because the player is expected to find loot with attributes that synergize to their build snd then level up their equips as they climb the difficulty tiers. I min maxed my trickster anomoly build by the time i killes the chysoloid, and used that gear until i beat the ct15 final expedition. The difficulty is artificial due to how scaling works. Agreed lots of mods are pointless. Look at bone shrapnel turns everything into a grenade and has highest dps of all mods that have damage scaling, smh its awesome i like it but for me ita basically a must have for high lvl expeditions

The constant flashing (especially when taking damage) and weirdly teleporting enemies are definitely going to end up giving someone a seizure.

That and the bigger issue that, like you said, the core gameplay loop just doesn't feel good. The movement is not great, the shooting is mediocre, and the abilities are good. Sadly it is a looter shooter, and having mediocre shooting kind of kills it even with good abilities. Then there's the enemy melee staggering you, enemies body block you, enemies never miss or have to reload, etc. It's just not good enough compared to the core gameplay of other games like Destiny or even Borderlands.

The greatest things about games today is the wildly contrasting views on them. I personally enjoy this game as do the friends I play with, and then I watch tubers that have the same views as me, and then come across videos like this. It's really what makes gaming great IMO.
I think this game was pretty fun for about 20-25 hours. I finished the campaign and then I was done. Around that time the repetiveness gets to you. I played pyro. I would recommend it if you want to play a decently fun shooter looter for the campaign. But dont pick Devastator like Synth said

lmao there is a difference between shephard and the outrider. shephard can have his backstory be different and you have your own shephard make different decisions. the outrider does not. his lines are all set in stone. there is no way to make him or act different.

I with you on this review... have logged in twice on ps5 and the first day was spent trying to connect, the second time was ok made it to like lol 9. After the experience and all the talk of inventory wipes I was like screw this, but ps customer support said no refunds offered and I had to much playtime according to ps policies anyway.
The most contradicting thing just from watching the Outriders story playthroughs is that they advertise it like it's about a special group, yet the story makes it so that all the Outriders are killed off and the player is basically THE LAST OUTRIDER in existence and the only one with powers who sided with the main faction, plus they make such a dramatic edgy deal out of it. That means multiplayer makes no sense and other Outriders don't exist. HELLO!? It's called Outriders, with an S. This isn't Avatar the Last Airbender. I know it's been long since Outriders came out, but even today it still makes me cringe and videos that roast it comfort me a little.

This game should be a solo game, play with friends are extremely rage quit for most people, we all want better gears and weapons but the difficulty on solo is possible for solo player on the highest tier but if a friends join in the difficulty is increase by ten times...

I would rather have weapon rarity based on Borderlands games (preferably BL2) with legendary weapons having special effects, but mainly because it’s better than Destiny’s power level/light level as you could get high light level but stats are sh!t. However in destiny, the higher your light level, the more content is open for you such as heroic missions and raids.

6 months ago people said this should have came out and got full attention over avengers...... 6months later Avengers is played more and has more players currently with actual end game content and mechanics I never understood why people dick smoked this game so much 😂 and I would say you like destiny cause it has more than just looting in the game with the PVP aspect your loot actually can be used for something after the story sometimes you gotta take that into account
constructive criticism at it's finest... I'm with it, and even agree with a lot of the points made, the gameplay loop could be better for sure, even optimized a bit. Still if you're a looter shooter fan you may enjoy it, maybe not if you're into exclusively fps though. try the demo, see if it's for you, make your own final judgement. I'll hold off on buying it personally until it's discounted and some bugs are ironed out.

There’s so many other games out there that deserve our money and time especially if like myself u look at older titles and don’t need to be playing the latest releases day 1! A good thing with this is obviously getting cheap games in sales but also they are mostly in playable states by the time I play them! Sad to say but these days sooo many games come out way to early broken buggy and rushed! By waiting awhile u don’t have to deal with the early day issues and u get the game cheaper. Multiplayer titles in particular always launch in terrible states nowadays and many gamers make excuses for this and accept it! Well I don’t and anyone with sense shouldn’t especially when we’re talking about bigger budget full price games

The game is trash from a gameplay and technical stand point but I was melting through everything at WT 11 and character level 17 as a devastator. You likely weren't geared properly.
for me who was waiting for a new gears of wars 2 or 3 with abilities it is the worst disappointment of the year ... so all you say is true and this game is trash ... play 5h and ask for reimbursement, you do not talk about the linear map, the way your move who is totally has-been and weird , and get a level who can happen at any time and for example just before a final boss and then will exterminate you in a blink. (tier 5 to 6 in 5 i almost os the boss i redo the mission and pass tier 6 just before it, i stay 2h in the room dying in loop) , and when you need to take cover oh my god it is so so bad you need to target a wall to and select it to take cover what is simply awful. These peoples never play division 2 or any gears of wars or even mass effect.
This game is just a pile of trash. It has no soul and the story is even more bad than the gameplay ... a pure horror.

I can't comment on the voice lines or cutscenes. I literally skipped every cutscene bar the tutorial and opening in the Demo. You could tell all that story was shit. Fuck, the preview from last year, people already said the story seemed like it was gonna be ass. This game is getting 7-8's purely because it's out now. If it would have came out next month, resident 8, R-type, Necromunda, etc. this game would have gotten 4-5's due to just launch issues. Competition really matters. I think that's why we need to spread the games out a bit more over the months. Not just release them right before summer and Christmas. Lol it's ridiculous

The guns sound really...shit.
Devastor has an equivalent bullet build where golem skin ramps firepower to obscene levels just fyi. Its the same premise as a bullet enhancement build. Pop golem skin, ramp firepower, keep killing to sustain dmg. To be fair i still think this game is super mediocre and not worth the asking price.
Also best loot in endgame isnt correct. Theres no difference betwern the loot at the end than the beginning. Because the player is expected to find loot with attributes that synergize to their build snd then level up their equips as they climb the difficulty tiers. I min maxed my trickster anomoly build by the time i killes the chysoloid, and used that gear until i beat the ct15 final expedition.
The difficulty is artificial due to how scaling works.
Agreed lots of mods are pointless. Look at bone shrapnel turns everything into a grenade and has highest dps of all mods that have damage scaling, smh its awesome i like it but for me ita basically a must have for high lvl expeditions
