And as a final thought: They really weren't at the top of their game when they named all this demons. Fleshdoom AND Doomlock? Warmaggot? I know the name Diablo isn't the most imaginative, but come on.
Oh THAT is how Beelzebub interprets this quest? I like it, but I somewhat prefer an interpretation where Horazon is actually dead, or, at least, nowhere to be found, like The Hell did. In TH, entering his level even gives you Hellfire's intro cutscene and one of the two demons (the non-Grimspike one whose name we don't know for certain) is Hellfire's Na-Krul, only ungodly tough like everything in that mod. Unfortunately, Na-Krul's part of the level is way too damn long, and with TH's lockdown feature I was unable to survive gauntlet long enough to even GET to Na-Krul, let alone fight the bastard. Killing TH's version of Grimspike was fun, though. Beelzebub uses a more D2-inspired background for the fight, and has lots of differences from TH's interpretation in general, the biggest of which is, again, Horazon being _alive_ in Beelzebub's take. There's one bit of genius I want to highlight, though, and that's the use of Doomlock for the name of the second demon. It may not mean much for most, but it's a very clever bit of reconstruction work. The final game's code contains a bunch of unique enemies that cannot appear because they're assigned to levels where their base monster type cannot appear. Sometimes, the base monster type is one that doesn't even exist in the final game, but that's another story. All of these enemies are assigned to normal levels (between 1 and 16), except for two... Grimspike is assigned level 19 and Doomlock is assigned level 28. Seems like their level designations are "special", which might indicate a quest dungeon. The fact that Doomlock is the _only_ other entry with a "special" number makes this an even more convincing theory that this IS, in fact, Grimspike's counterpart! Beelzebub even makes Doomlock a lightning demon creature, which fits the base type "Storm Lord" still listed in the code. They did change Grimspike's base type, though, to a Balrog-type enemy -- in the code remnants the name is associated with the base type of Obsidian Lord, aka a Horned Demon-type enemy instead. This makes a lot of sense with his name, but balrogs also have horns in their design and are just a more imposing-looking enemy overall, so I see why Noktis went for this take. (In TH's version, Grimspike uses the visuals from Hellfire's Defiler, which would make sense since Defiler uses Na-Krul's design... except Na-Krul ALSO uses Na-Krul's design. Eeeeeeehhhhhhh.) Of course, we don't know _for sure_ if Doomlock was from this quest, but it seems a reasonable theory. I do like how The Hell implements Hellfire's take on things in ITS version, but Noktis pulled out all the stops on the reconstruction work here.
Minor nitpick here, but the warriors name is Aidan, not Adrian, he is the eldest son of King Leoric as I'm sure you already know, but you keep calling him Adrian when his name is Aidan. Masterful work otherwise.

Eeeeeeehhhhhhh.)
Of course, we don't know _for sure_ if Doomlock was from this quest, but it seems a reasonable theory. I do like how The Hell implements Hellfire's take on things in ITS version, but Noktis pulled out all the stops on the reconstruction work here.
What a fantastic read, thank you!!
Have you had a look at “Hellfire” I think it was called. It had a new character, the monk. It was an expansion for D1 made by Sierra...
Yes, it comes with gog thankfully
the belt RECIPE XD
Hugely missed opportunity!
yup very big missed opportunity
Minor nitpick here, but the warriors name is Aidan, not Adrian, he is the eldest son of King Leoric as I'm sure you already know, but you keep calling him Adrian when his name is Aidan. Masterful work otherwise.
Arcane Sanctuary is more Beautiful than that

Diablo1 10/10, Diablo 2 10/10, diablo3 3/10, diablo 4 1/10.
Diablo 3 is not Diablo. It should be disregarded and forgotten.
