As someone who loves diablo 2 to death, it makes me sad to hear of the canon fate of our heroes, but at the same time I feel glad that they were not just cast away never to be spoken of again, even if their ends were not kind ones. I am a sucker for lore that incorporates characters that I have played as in the past or that I had met in past adventures. It adds so much to the storytelling.

We definitely need a shield user in the game. We have the necro but it’s just a stat stick for them. I want to see a couple cool skills for a shield. Easy low hanging fruit is a Captain America shield throw, but it would be sick to see a shield bash that procs holy light behind the bashed target or something.
People speculate a “Demon Knight” type class (I think one is in Diablo Immortal) which would make sense for D4. Inarius is in Hell now so maybe some of the knight penitent are such devoted followers of him that they follow him no matter what his alignment is. Or maybe a few who survived the battle but got sealed in Hell have been slowly corrupted, but as players the lore of our character is that we were resilient to the corruption of the realm of hatred but scrapped by using demon armor and weapons until we found a way out or something, but were tainted from the demonic essence.
Whatever they do, I hope a new class is a shield user.

I would want to see the Templars for the first time in a Diablo game. Also the shields for Necromancers logically needs Armor. It just makes sense. Regarding rarity armor grades. Give them 50/100 armor for grey shields, 150/200 for blue, 250/300 for yellow, 350/400 for orange, 450/500 for copper etc Ancestral, sacred, special ones can have higher than standard amount of armor etc. Hope sets return and color coded purple

When I played Diablo 2 I remember always choosing the Paladin since it was one of the most interesting characters in the series, when they start explaining in diablo 3 that many of the heroes of the last game had perished or dissapear or unknown, I said to myself that I hoped the Paladin atleast had a happy ending, knowing this now brings me sadness and makes me realize that his end was one of those things I wasn`t ready to expect...Either way he was one great character I believe that it tears me apart knowing that he did what he was suppose to do in the end.

He was just a re-used fallen shaman skin though, same as the rest. Then he summoned one called, "The Unholy" - also from the fourth wave of the baal throneroom fight, Ventar the Unholy. But he was just a re-used balrog skin. In diablo 2 he was green, they could have at least re-colored him to match that. I also recall Colenzo being blue. A simple re-color would have payed proper homage to them via easter egg. They could still fix it easily in future updates though, who knows.

Indeed, i also would never have imagened that such a tragic would befall one of the Diablo 2 hero's. You can't help but get the feeling that fighting and defeating the (Prime) Evils feels pointless in the end. Well we do know the fate of a few others.
The necromancer, Xul is alive and relativelly well around Diablo 3 time and we even encounter one of his aprentices during the story. After D2 he became a master necromancer.
The sorceress Isendra trained Li-Ming, the D3 female wizard but was killed before D3 by an assassin while she was on a mission.
The assassin.. well this one is unconfirmed but there are rumors that she was the one to kill the sorceress.
The barbarian's fate is unknown, but the D3 barbarian was supposed to be the same as the D2 barbarian before the idea was scrapped.
The amazon is called Cassia and between D2 and D3 she began training other amazons, eventually earned the title of Warmatron, granted to her by Queen Xaera, the leader of the Askari people (amazons). Still active as of Reaper of Souls.
The druid we know nothing about his fate so far.
The paladin, well now we know.

Some of the diablo 3 people are known. Lyndon (the rogue merc) runs backwater. Johanna the crusader from d3 also died. There is a quest in zabinzet that has you help her apprentice. I'm sure there will be more references found as the game gets played and blizzard releases more content.
Yes the theme of perpetual corruption and eternal conflict is a big one and one that many others tried to stop (e.g. lilith and inarius when they first used the worldstone and created sanctuary, the prime evils when they escaped hell into sanctuary to get more forces and an upper hand, malthael when he tried to kill everyone, lilith now in d4 etc.). I think the moral of the story will be that the eternal conflict will always be present and the "illusion" is that we can somehow stop it...
D2 sorc is dead because she shows up in d3:ROS at the end as the "spirit" that the d3 sorc sees as her former master. The other people...most likely died of old age or fighting against evil somewhere kind of like this paladin did (the story is 50 years from d3 to d4..and 20 years between d2 and d3; So 70 years from d2 to d4 and considering most were say 20-40 years of age when they fought they would be centenarians most likely if they survived similar to meshif).

If such a devout paladin can still be consumed by hell's influence even after defeating a prime evil, I wonder what became of the other heroes. The necro and amazon were implied to have returned safely after the events of Diablo 2. So it seems that it is quite possible to resist the corruption of the prime evils regardless of how strong their faith in the light is. As per Diablo 3, the necro even took on an apprentice who went on to free trapped souls from demonic influence in a side quest. The amazon went back to her homeland and became a matriarch training other young women in the art of war. Even the sorceress was implied to have survived the corruption of the evils. She was just killed by the assassin of D2 as part of her duty to kill dangerous mages, when one of her spells to end drought, went out of control. But nothing much is known about the other 2 heroes of the final 7 who banded together to defeat Baal. Initially, the barb of D3 was supposed to be the same as the one in D2 but later on, they removed any references of it and insisted that it's another barb. And no one has said anything about the druid too.

    • @amazingcalvin
      @amazingcalvin Год назад +6

@@fuevue2913 Yeah it's not a confirmed thing. But I think it makes more sense for Natalya to leave the order because she or the D2 assassin was sent to kill Isendra. Killing mages who cause many deaths is nothing new to the order of assassins. They did send her to watch over Ormus for years even though he still uses his powers to protect the people of Kurast as much as he could. So the reason for leaving the order has to be something Natalya strongly disagreed with. Like sending either herself or her companion in arms in D2 to kill her later. The Wizard in D3 does ask the spirit of Isendra as to the identity of her killer and she does not answer. While for new players, what she said might not be significant, it might be that the one who killed Isendra also knew her well and only Natalya and the D2 assassin fit those categories. Just a theory but it also makes the storylines more interesting. Xul and Cassia are basically "happily ever after" but for all intents and purposes, the D3 barb was the D2 barb based on his responses. So it does follow the dark pattern of ppl who ever encounter the prime evils in that they end up miserable despite their victory over hell!

There is also a quest line in D4 that explores the entire context, names and genders of the character we see in the original Diablo 4 cinematic. The one where we see how Lilith is summoned into Sanctuary by Elias. Now, that questline blew my god damn mind.

    So far then, we have...
Paladin= Carthas: Sealed himself with 3 other Paladins in Sankekur's tomb in order to stand vigil over sealing Sankekur's corrupted body, succumbed to corruption but soul laid to rest by player.
Sorceress=Isendra: Trained the D3 female wizard (Li Ming), attempted to solve a deadly drought but accidentally ended up killing many instead, and was punished by the Mage Clans who sent the Viz-Jaq'taar to assassinate her. Went down fighting, but eventually met her end.
Assassin=Natalya: Possibly might have been the one who assassinated Isendra. Whether she did directly herself or not though, she didn't seem too happy about it as she turned her back to the order afterwards and became a part of (and imo helped found.) the Demon Hunters.
Necromancer=Xul: Lived a long life continuing his duty, went on a lot of further adventures. A master of his order now, he trained a few apprentices, one went sour. Otherwise, pretty based af life.
Amazon=Cassia: Returned to her people a legend and trained many Amazons in order to bolster their ranks in preparation for if they would ever have to fight the forces of darkness. Became a WarMatron to her people. Also a pretty based life.
    Unknowns still
Barbarian: Unknown fate. Was originally supposed to be the male Barbarian in D3 in early production. Officially that's been dropped, but honestly I still sort of head canon it since he still looks so much like him but just old. I love the idea of the D2 Barb continuing kicking demon ass non stop all the way to his golden years. IF one were to still think of the D3 male Barb as the same man, his prologue suggests that he's been doing just that, wandering the lands seeking anything that can "match" his blades despite his people being displaced.
Druid: Unknown. Virtually nothing is known about the "canon" Druid other than he was there at the World Stone. The Druids as a people have certainly had it rough since D3 though.

"It was then that Baal’s forces laid siege to the bastion. With Tyrael’s aid, my brave comrades
who had defeated Diablo and Mephisto arrived at Harrogath amidst the chaos.
Over the course of their journey, the heroes’ numbers had grown. One newcomer who had
pledged herself to the cause was an assassin of the Viz-Jaq’taar, a secretive order created
to hunt down and slay renegade sorcerers. Having foresworn the direct use of magic, the
assassin donned exotic weapons and armor imbued with elemental energies.
Another newcomer was a druid who traveled far from the fabled woodlands of Scosglen.
Prior to meeting this individual, I had read extensively from the ancient druidic tome
Scéal Fada and knew much about the druids’ abilities to command the forces of nature
and assume the forms of various beasts.
The band of heroes did all they could to break Baal’s demonic siege. Their efforts, however,

Outstanding. One of my biggest requests for Diablo 3 and 4 was to learn what happened to the heroes of D2. In D2, we learned what happened to the characters in D1. In D3, we learned what happened to the Sorceress and the Necromancer, and Heroes of the Storm (assuming the lore given is canonical) told us what happened to the Amazon. I always wanted to know what happened to the Paladin, Barbarian, Assassin, and Druid. Now we have that Paladin's fate answered. Now I'd love to know what happened to the other three remaining. In my own head canon, it was the D2 Assassin that slayed the Sorceress, and the Barbarian married Charsi and continued adventuring. The Druid went back to the woods or something, idk. lol

    • @Kiyosuki
      @Kiyosuki Год назад +3

Natalya, the canon assassin eventually turned her back to the order and instead became a Demon Hunter according to her item set in D3. I also think it's strongly implied that she was the one who did Isendra, the Sorceress in finally after a long battle. This is just me connecting the dots, but I don't think it sat right with Natalya which would explain why she left the order. Having seen the real threat the Burning Hells represents, she probably also got fed up with being used for Mage Clan infighting, and rather taught her skills as well as developed new ones with others in order to form a new order specifically trained to kill demons.
This isn't canon at all now, (though nothing contradicts it either) but I still sort of like to think of the male D3 Barb as the D2 Barb but just older. And yeah, the Druid just sort of went back to the woods or something.

@@Kiyosuki regarding the barbarian, I agree. Originally that was the plan anyway. And initially it was the male barbarian pushed in all the media but later they put the spotlight on the female barbarian, named Sonya. So we can head canon the male barb all we want. Paladin get's too much Cleric stuff, honestly this has been a thing broadly in Blizzard product, when they say Paladin they mean Cleric. Bard might feel a bit odd in a Diablo game, then again it fit's better than Amazon does. Not sure about Blacksmith...
An Inventor could work if they kept it low key and didn't get too stupid with it, I am also dissapointed they killed off the new Horadrim Order, as it would be neat to play as a Horadrim, they are described as Mages and Wizards, but also cursaders, I feel like having them be akin to battle mages with a touch of holy magic due to their connection to Tyrial (More something he taught them, than something they draw from him), could be fun. Hell they could have made an interesting stand in for the Paladin in this game. But alas, Lorath must be Deckard Cain 2.0 and that means he must be the last Horadrim. At about 12:12 the Book of Lorath says that we won't know for certain what kind of man Sankekur was before Mephisto possessed him, but the manual of Diablo II provides a small clue in the document "Custodians of Hatred" from "Ex Libris Horadrim." In a letter to the Archbishop Lazarus, Sankekur talks about how he had tasked Lazarus with guarding Mephisto's Soulstone, and his concerns about the toll on Lazarus' sanity as a result of that task.
Could Sankekur have written that letter after being possessed by Mephisto? Possibly, but probably not; Sankekur didn't need anyone to guard Mephisto's Soulstone after it was shattered and its largest shard was impaled into his hand.

About a different quest and character.. when I found Lyndon in backwater and figured that he had an actual quest chain and story, I got giggidy 😂 most of the side missons are time wasting fluff but some like with Lyndon and the one where we re-trace the steps of Eliasand the three are actually really good if you care about the stories and lore..

I liked the one where you did a bunch of exorcisms in kyovashad with the priestess. The one where you help the bar tender guy, I forgot his name, but he ends up being a bandit who left because he didn’t agree with his bands actions following Asteroths destruction was really cool too.

Wow. Carthas (D2 pally) really just a generic rare mob level boss in a side quest? Big L. He just swings his sword, summons basic adds, and repeats standard rare mob fear pentas. I was hoping for like an Unholy Fire/Freeze/Shock aura stack, or maybe an corrupted Fist of the Heavens, blessed hammer, or even a charge+zeal rush attack. Holy crap Blizz missed the mark on this iconic character's last brawl. The whole encounter design is more tragic than the writing and atmosphere. F*** you Activision/Blizz. :(
RIP D2 Pally, we will never get a paladin class ever again and they had to pull one last disrespect.

Fantastic find with amazing context added from the book of Lorath! It seems obvious that the next chapter will feature mephisto prominently with perhaps the corruption of Neyrelle....I suppose her plan to go west is to try and do what these paladins did....Isolation and containment.
    Great content! Keep it coming!

Very dramatic. Good job! I didn't think much of the side characters as I've played, with the exception of the Horadrim. I listened to Deckard Cain a lot throughout the series. So I am eager to hear about other Horadric mages. Your story gave me pause to consider what happened to other factions.

I want to know what happened to Johanna, in D4, they show that Crusader's take the name of their masters after they die, and there is a side quest where you find another crusader who is looking for her master, and it ends up being another crusader named Johanna, but not the one from D3, so I want to know what happened to the original one :(

Nobody told Blizzard I actually beat Mephisto with my paladins Aura.
It's okay, simple mistake. Fix it though.
