- A powerful poem on finding pleasure and comfort in nature.
Read by Victor Vertunni

William Wordsworth was a revered English poet who was, in part, responsible for kick-starting the Romantic movement in English literature.
Inspired after finding a surprising number of daffodils during a countryside walk, Daffodils (or 'I Wondered Lonely as a Cloud') serves as something of a reminder that humanity is a part of nature and not an opposing force.
I miss my high school friends, it's been 8 years since I first read this poem, and I can still, not only, remember it but can remember the mood in our classroom, the warmth of that day, and how it made me feel. I remember and miss my English teacher♡
" . . . What wealth the show to me had brought . . .
" . . . They flash upon that inward eye . . . "

Did you read it in front of the class and did all your classmates have to read it as well? Sounds like the poem touched your heart.
Yes, took me back to my English Class and to the English teacher who passed away few years ago.

From time to time, my late English wife, while propped up on her pillows in bed, would read me this poem while I was getting ready for work. Brings back such wonderful memories of our 47 years together. Her ashes are in Iver Heath, Bucks., England, where I'll be some day.
U love ur wife so much. What an eternal feeling
We may be strangers but your comment brought a lump to my throat. Bless you brother.
Very nice
That's beautiful. God bless you both.
Very loving and calm ! Thanks!
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed-and gazed-but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
Ok 🆗 good 😌
Thankyou💝
Enjoyed this poem as a child. It was what inspired me to plant drifts of daffodils on our property in my 60's . A lasting pleasure, treasured every spring to harken me back to this very poem closing in on 80.
Steven Atkins.....I still use some old fashioned words long forgotten......Hark is one of them, frock another . Probably picked up from my English grandparents and I'm 76 yes myself. I know this poem well, it is set to music and I sang it at school.
Hark means listen
@@arati.behera Thanks for the reply. But in the the United States, harkens more often refers to " pay attention to" or evoke a memory or some sort of a "longing."
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does any of you know a method to log back into an Instagram account??
I was stupid lost my account password. I appreciate any tips you can give me.

I recited this poem for a competition when I was in school and won the first place. And when I was appreciated, I replied that it wasn’t me, it was Wordsworth.
That was Class.. 😂
Hey what a coincidence me too in srilanka 🙏
Me too in india😀
Me too

I studied this poem in sixth class during 1963 . I got by heart this poem. Still I remembered that style, presentation of explanation of our English Sir. Thanks for sweet memories
Yes, a beautiful memory; it took me back 70 years. Thank you. ☘️🇮🇪🇺🇸
"I gazed and gazed but little thought, what wealth the show to me had brought"....fantastic lines that connects the readers to the poet..sad did not understand it in my school days..but still wonderful memories.
My favourite poet.. A spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings and emotions recollected in tranquility..
This poem took me back to my school days. 58 years since I left the school. Beautiful poem.
Holy...!
Nice picture of the poet. He seems to be in a kind of transcended state of a higher reality. The lyrics are nice and the music that accompanies the reading is eminent. Together, it fascinates me every time.
Suddenly I went back to my class 6 in 1997 and again in my class 9 in 2000 when I could recite this poem. Strangely I realise that I have forgot some of the words. Thank you RUclips for momentarily taking me to my happier childhood days.
This poem takes me back to my school days when we had to memorise this poem . My English teacher explained the background and the poem so well that I yearned to see the Lake District in Scotland ,where this poem was written. A beautiful poem and I still enjoy going through the poem whenever I can. What a beautiful poem written by the great poet,William Wordsworth.
The Lake District is in Cumbria, which is in England.
A great poet he was
Daffodils this poem I learnt in my schools and again many times till graduation. In College our English teacher would take a whole period to explain the depth of words. Our teacher would go deep into the charms of the poems and I used to be spell bound and the whole poem and commentary by teacher was just magical.

Beautiful poem, so exemplifies one's childhood. innocent and pure.
This poem has greatly moulded my personality and my view towards nature and to weave the beauty to form an art work of immense pleasure ❤️
Daffodils are full of glee! This is a lovely poem.
This was one of my grandmother, Nelly's, favorite poems. We had an old 78 record player that she had used to record herself reciting this poem. She was born in 1878. It was about 1963 when I listened to the scratchy 78 record. Such a wonderful memory. Such a beautiful poem. Thank you!
Beautiful ❤️❤️
😊
I'm a ninth grade student and in my syllabus contains daffodils. I was given a task to find out Similes and Imagery of this master piece and got blessed to do that. Really a poem that enhances the long term thinking.
I bet that this is the most recited poem in its entirety in our schools.
I was the 56th like and at this time there's no dislikes. I have faith in humanity.
Now 200.

Nathan Montoya Now 20 dislikes. What they don’t know is that Wordsworth has been dead for almost 200 years and his feelings aren’t hurt by their disapproval.
Humanity will suprise you sometimes. It is a beautiful poem and the way it is read makes you envision that you are right there watching the daffodils dancing in the breeze.
I read it at 4th standard when I was 10, it was a happy poem; but after 5 years, Daffodils has changed to something else.
I learnt this poem in school. It's one of the many beautiful poems I remember even today.
it takes your whole soul with the poem
My mom taught me this poem for school fest. I got A+. Remembering my mom who went back to God's abode...may be she met her favourite poet there. Love from India 🙏🏼

I don't why but I remember only this poem from school days memories. Revisiting to this poem after 15 years.
And then my heart with fill with happy ..
..
Listening this poem i feel William Wordsworth is with me ,he is alive.
Listening to this poem " The Daffodils" brings back memories of my high school days in the late '50's (am now in my 80's) where we students had fun memorizing stanzas from poems of Wordsworth, Longfellow and other American authors. My classmates and I used to memorize in chorus during break time , or had a contest to find out who memorized the stanza without mistake. What fun days we had. Memories !!!
No poets have produced poetry as wonderful as the English poets.
This poem is a case in point. Yesterday I came across ALT's "...The light Brigade", vastly different but no less wonderful.
I could go on all day but I won't.
Oh, what a beautiful poem! I didnt grow up learning english speaking poetry...listening to this poem l can say, .this is a true treasure.
By this author fave 4 lines :
'Let us then be up and doing
With a heart for any fate
Still achieving, still pursuing
Learn to labor and to wait.'
It's not of William Wordsworth, this is the poem A Psalm Of life by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
They flash upon the inward eye -he feels eternal peace through meditation. He was very much sensitive to nature.
My father read it in 60,s &read in college.
Learned this poem when I was a wee lass. I'm now 84 yrs and can still recite most of it. Daffodils are such a wonderful welcome to Spring. Such a "happy" flower.

Now in 17s,

Theres something emotional and melancholic in this rendition of the poem. The music is a nice touch as well.
This is one of my favorite poems from my youth 💝💐💫
"And Then My Heart With Pleasure Fills, And Dances With The DAFFODILS" Loved it scene my childhood ❣️❣️
Thank you so much for the wonderful, memories..lake district in Wales, UK.. Brings back ,unforgettable memories..the way we were...
I read this at my grandmothers funeral, it was her favourite, she would always recite the last stanza.
I saw a steep hill next to the road with hundreds of daffodils growing on it while driving on a country road years ago. I was in awe over the beauty of them all. I came across this poem sometime later and it always takes me back in my mind's eye to that beautiful hill. Wordsworth had an awesome talent of touching the soul with his discriptive wordings.
You said my toughts.
great, you're lucky
He is one of my favourite poets I visited hos house in the lake district snd have the poem now hanging in my drawing room
Daffodils bloom every year in my garden in his memory.Wonderful poem!
I memorized this poem when I was 9 yrs old in school. Thank you for bringing back memorable days 🙏🏽
I memories this when I was grade 6 too and now I forgot (I'm in grade 10) now I have to memories some of the lines again😭
‘For oft, when on my couch I lie,’ seems too oft these days ...
‘In vacant or in pensive mood,’ thankfully not too vacant, just somewhat forgetful though...
‘They flash upon that inward eye,’ nothing can beat a good memory ...
‘Which is the bliss of solitude.’ if and when chosen, but not sure about enforced measures of late ...
Still one of my all time favourite poems and poet.
2021 Stay safe everyone
Who could dislike such a poem?
Love the last lines!!!!
In my 60s now..still fresh as a lily are these daffodils..❤

A spontaneous overflow of powerful emotions recollected in tranquillity...so said William Wordsworth.
So true n beautiful.aA thought provoking message.
These things become more precious as we age. It took me awhile to appreciate the keen, incisive art of the poet. Now I appreciate it more than ever. Appreciate the manifold beauty of this world.
I too took to a great liking for this poem as a student in my teens at School. Brings me fond memories of my English Teacher Mr.Vivian Gas.
Such a mellifluous rendition of Wordworth's poem. Thank you for sharing this.
