Gremlins scared me as a kid. The movie theatre scene made me actually paranoid of going to watch movies. As the theatre rooms where I used to live had these kind of curtain things along the wall that would sometimes sway or twitch making it seem like gremlins were behind them.
The original script was MUCH more graphic, they eat billy's dog, they throw billy's mothers head down the stairs at him, pete gets his throat chomped out, Gizmo turns into stripe, practically the entire town is killed by the gremlins, it certainly delves more into the horror part of the horror comedy. I would've loved to see the original script filmed but what we got is just as amazing
they should release it as a comic.. im kinda happy the only confirmed kills in this movie is mrs deagle , makes it more ok to show this movie to little kids to scare the shit out of them like my friends dad did to me

It's definitely quite shocking, but because it very much doesn't take itself too seriously you can't help but laugh. They got the tone spot on, and that's how it developed such a classic status. As a child of the 80's I'm happy that it still gets the respect it deserves. Definitely Gremlins 2: The new batch is worth a watch...some say it's better, whatever the case, it certainly takes itself even less seriously!
I just watched this movie for the first time last month too! It was way better than what I was expecting! When Gizmo finally got to drive that car, it warmed my heart.

The best Christmas film, and also a perfect film. Not a wasted scene or any filler, the film lays out the story and setting perfectly. Sp glad you watched Gremlins, because then you can watch the second film, which parodies itself and the first film in a very original way. Gremlins is the reason the PG-13 rating exists, due to the ad campaign not having showed a single bit or even hint to the Gremlins, and instead showed nothing but cute Gizmo. So tons of families went to see the film thinking it was a cute family friendly Christmas film about a furry little critter. Tons of angry parents called into theaters about their children having been traumatized and scared, and the rating system decided to finally create a rating between PG and R. A few other films that came out the same year encouraged the new rating as well.
24:24 I'm surprised you didn't recognize the sheriff deputy, he was played by Johnathan Banks. The same actor that played Mike Ehrmantraut from Breaking Bad.
"That's the easiest way to make me like the protagonist, show him watching the greatest christmas movie of all time." Hold up, he's not watching Die Hard in that scene.
The iconic and brilliant music score was composed by the late great Jerry Goldsmith, who had a wonderful working relationship with Joe Dante. Goldsmith composed the scores for Gremlins, Gremlins 2, Innerspace, Small Soldiers, The Burbs, It's a Good life-Twilight Zone, The Movie and Boo-Amazing Stories. Goldsmith was nominated for 18 Academy Awards in his career, having won only once for "The Omen" in 1976. Gone, but not forgotten. He is truly missed.
19:40---LOL!! Dude, I've literally seen about 4 "Reacts" now watching this movie for the first time (I've loved it since I was a kid) and EVERYONE thinks Gizmo's in the stocking at the fireplace (props though, cause I never thought of that back then, but I can see how people can think that)
The guy with the plow is Dick Miller, who frequently acted in Joe Dante films (and was the owner of the gun shop in The Terminator). He and the woman playing his wife, Jackie Joseph, were in the original The Little Shop of Horrors.
Personally, I enjoy Gremlins 2 even more. Some people hate it because is more cartoonish than the original, and I even hated it when I first saw it, but it grew on me because I later understood what they were trying to do, wich is to make a live action Looney Tunes movie with the Gremlins. It's very over the top and silly, and I get why some may find it childish or annoying, but I think it's a lot of fun. It takes the best part of the first one, the Gremlin mayhem, and expands on it in very creative ways. Plus, the more you watch it, the more gags and cameos and hidden jokes you find. It's not for everyone, but you should give it a try.
Was originally more of s straight horror and Gizmo was gonna become Stripe but Spielberg suggested lighting the tone and changing Gizmo to be more cute and marketable. Gremlins 2 is great the studio basically let Joe Dante do what he wanted, so the whole movie is a rebuttal to the critics and takes the cartoon humour and violence up a level
How about The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford next? Has SUPERB performances from Casey Affleck and Brad Pitt and just a beautiful, beautiful film. You would not regret watching it.
5:48 In those days that was just a mean old lady. But now we know wanting to hurt animals is a psychopathic trait, it has been shown that many serial killers start out that way. Oh you silly old mean lady
Mr. Futterman is played by an actor named Dick Miller. He was a staple in a bunch of B-Movies from the 60’s through the 80’s. He’s the gun store owner too in Terminator. Tarantino even used him in Pulp Fiction, but his scene got deleted. He passed away in 2019.
"There's no easy way out for them" Using that phrase makes me wonder if you've done Rocky IV ready to upload before this, haha. If not, try and watch out for why I might say that!
Spielberg presents...because this was supposed to be a graphic horror movie. Like dante's original script had gizmo becoming stripe, gremlins killing both Peltzer parents, barney the dog was supposed to be hung with the exterior xmas lights and gutted like a deer...yeah. Spielberg came in and made dante make the changes necessary to make this movie friendlier to a wider audience.
Joe Dante is a cult favourite director from back in the day. Piranha, The Howling, Gremlins, Explorers, Innerspace, Gremlins 2, Matinee etc. He loves genre and classic B movie actors and fills his films with cameos and Easter Eggs. His films often have a gleefully dark comedic looney tunes vibe to them. He even made an actual live action/animated Looney Tunes movie in the 2000s. But Gremlins is for me still his best. Gremlins 2 is great too but it's utterly bonkers. Gotta love these anarchic little sh*ts. 🤣
Oh my god, i just got in from a long, long day at work, stressful drive home in the dark and rain and this is exactly what i needed to relax and calm down, thank you so much!
I watched this with my oldest daughter 13 years ago. (She was 2 or 3) I forgot about the violence in this. My kid FREAKED OUT!. Stabbing...Microwave Oven...Blenders. It was a Christmas MASSACER! lol
The shot of all the gremlins moving is actually a technique called go motion. It basically involves adding motion blur to the character to create a more realistic effect.
A few facts since I was obsessed with this movie as a kid, some which have already been said: 1. The original script was a lot darker with more deaths including Barney the dog, but they thankfully didn’t go through with it. 2. The younger partner to Sheriff Frank is played by a young Jonathan Banks, who is also Mike Ehrmantraut from Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad. 3. Mr. Jones at the beginning of the movie while Billy is drawing in the pub is played by Chuck Jones. 4. Corey Feldman is Pete, the kid who knocks water onto Gizmo. 5. In the commentary track featuring the director Joe Dante, he explains the five Mogwai-later-turned-Gremlins rolled into balls and bounced down the hall to lure Barney the dog outside, which is how they got him tied up in the lights. 6. In a deleted scene, Billy’s boss Mr. Corbin was discovered to have been killed by the gremlins (whilst covered in Time Magazines and his stopwatch, which in another deleted scene is referencing his obsession with punctuality) and Gerald locked himself up for his own protection. He refuses help, believing Billy wants to be promoted now that their boss is dead, so he and Kate just leave him there and decide to “come back later”. 7. E.T. The Extra Terrestrial came out just two years before, and you will see some E.T. dolls in the mall if you look carefully. 8. Mrs. Deagle’s cats are all named after some form of currency from various countries, i.e. Kopek (Russia) and Old Dollar Bill (US), showing how wealthy she is.
aww good call man! It's not Christmas for me until I've seen Gremlins, Home Alone and A Muppet Christmas Carol! Gremlins 2 is quite a different film but it's also very entertaining. In some ways it's better than the original but the first one is definitely the must watch Christmas film.

The same actor that played Mike Ehrmantraut from Breaking Bad.
awesome! another great movie with "monsters in a town" would be TREMORS!
Not enough snow though.
@@repairmanjack893 he can watch it after the holidays,,, :)
I had a little stuffed Gremlin(Gizmo) Toy. Got it at Birth and was my sleeping buddy for 10 years. I miss him.
"That's the easiest way to make me like the protagonist, show him watching the greatest christmas movie of all time."
Hold up, he's not watching Die Hard in that scene.
Gremlins!!! Love that everyone is watching this! Love your commentary too. Your reactions are always great.
24:08 Bro you totally didn't recognize 'Mike Ehmantraut' from Breaking Bad
He had hair, a hat and was young. 😳
You should check out the Ref if you haven’t, a yearly tradition in my family
Great film; great cast! Everyone in that movie does top-tier work, especially Denis Leary.
Thats a forgotten about classic right there
19:40---LOL!! Dude, I've literally seen about 4 "Reacts" now watching this movie for the first time (I've loved it since I was a kid) and EVERYONE thinks Gizmo's in the stocking at the fireplace (props though, cause I never thought of that back then, but I can see how people can think that)
One of the cops is Mike from breaking bad.
The guy with the plow is Dick Miller, who frequently acted in Joe Dante films (and was the owner of the gun shop in The Terminator). He and the woman playing his wife, Jackie Joseph, were in the original The Little Shop of Horrors.
"THE REF" is the best underrated Christmas movie. Show it some love.
Great pick! Forgot about that one. I agree!
I'll have to rewatch it but I recall it getting on my fucking nerves and hating it, much like AMOS & ANDREW.
It's not for everyone, but you should give it a try.
you should watch The Departed or other Tarantino movie "Hateful Eight"
@@cutrip best tarantino bratanchik
The Departed isn't Tarantino? But agreed its a great movie.
@@MrMongoose221 yeah,i meant he watched some tarantino movies before,so here is another
@@EntrEsprit Oh I see, makes sense. Agreed i hope he watches more Tarantino but I know he's seen a few already before he started his channel..
You could watch Empire of the Sun. Another Steven Spielberg movie that’s really good
When the christmas tree falls on that woman there is about one frame in which you can see the puppeteer behind the tree wearing a red sweater, lol.
How about The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford next?
Has SUPERB performances from Casey Affleck and Brad Pitt and just a beautiful, beautiful film.
You would not regret watching it.
Its mesmerizing to me. Literally can watch in awe of the acting, cinematography, directing. Everything!
@@MikeB12800 Too bad NONE of the bigger reaction channels don't watch it...
5:48 In those days that was just a mean old lady. But now we know wanting to hurt animals is a psychopathic trait, it has been shown that many serial killers start out that way. Oh you silly old mean lady
Did you recognize the Deputy Brent? It's Jonathan Banks or Mike from Breaking Bad. :D
"There's no easy way out for them"
Using that phrase makes me wonder if you've done Rocky IV ready to upload before this, haha.
If not, try and watch out for why I might say that!
There's no shortcut home... 😁👍
Spielberg presents...because this was supposed to be a graphic horror movie. Like dante's original script had gizmo becoming stripe, gremlins killing both Peltzer parents, barney the dog was supposed to be hung with the exterior xmas lights and gutted like a deer...yeah. Spielberg came in and made dante make the changes necessary to make this movie friendlier to a wider audience.
this is why Mike left the police force and starting working for Gus and Saul
Joe Dante is a cult favourite director from back in the day. Piranha, The Howling, Gremlins, Explorers, Innerspace, Gremlins 2, Matinee etc. He loves genre and classic B movie actors and fills his films with cameos and Easter Eggs. His films often have a gleefully dark comedic looney tunes vibe to them. He even made an actual live action/animated Looney Tunes movie in the 2000s. But Gremlins is for me still his best. Gremlins 2 is great too but it's utterly bonkers. Gotta love these anarchic little sh*ts. 🤣
ohk but for real. . i like gremlims. . i enjoyed gremlins. . but i love gremlins 2 : the new batch. . def a step up in the gremlins game
Oh my god, i just got in from a long, long day at work, stressful drive home in the dark and rain and this is exactly what i needed to relax and calm down, thank you so much!
Gremlins 2 is not a great film, but it is an insane homage to the Looney-Tunes aesthetic. I still can't believe a major studio green lit it.
The studio wanted Dante to make it but he didn’t want to. Only way he would do it was if he had complete creative control. I love that movie too.
Congrats hitting 80k subs. Remember when it was just a few thousand 👏👏👏
Gremlins was literally responsible for the PG 13 rating. Indiana Jones helped, but mostly this.
I watched this with my oldest daughter 13 years ago. (She was 2 or 3) I forgot about the violence in this. My kid FREAKED OUT!. Stabbing...Microwave Oven...Blenders. It was a Christmas MASSACER!
lol
I actually prefer 2: A New Batch!
The shot of all the gremlins moving is actually a technique called go motion. It basically involves adding motion blur to the character to create a more realistic effect.
Watch The Truman Show!
The music during the scene where the gremlins drive the tractor is dope.
If you're looking for a good Christmas movie you can't go wrong with Die Hard
A few facts since I was obsessed with this movie as a kid, some which have already been said:
Personally, the sequel is better. Please watch it.
aww good call man! It's not Christmas for me until I've seen Gremlins, Home Alone and A Muppet Christmas Carol! Gremlins 2 is quite a different film but it's also very entertaining. In some ways it's better than the original but the first one is definitely the must watch Christmas film.
18:53 the cooking spray and the microwave is my favourite gremlin death.
Mrs. Peltzer was a total badass! Looking back as an adult, I'm shocked that I loved this movie so much as a kid. I should have been terrified.
I adore this! I saw it 14 times on the big screen (small town. Friend of the family free movies for me!) and I've seen it once a year since VHS era. Timeless to me, happy you viewed it. 🐾😊
Gremlins are up there with classic movie monsters like Alien(s), Predator and the Terminator. That was my childhood at least haha. The second movie is also a top notch crazy elaboration on the original.
