You have too many of this blue things in there, two is enough. Keep the blue things closer together and Take smaller bites. The one blue thing is keeping the bead from going into the low spot of the rim. Also make sure to squish the tire down farther on the opposite side of where you are prying and make sure it pulls up into the deep part of the rim. I do all my own tire mounting on my sportbike with a pair of homemade bars. Just some friendly advice. Don't give up man. Also where do you find a shop that will install tires you bought yourself. I have yet to find a single shop that will install tires I didn't buy from them. They will however balance them for a fee.
There is a harley shop I used to use not too far that will do it under the table for $30 a wheel. I might try again but it's tough. Thanks for the tips!
Right on! That's the key, putting the bead on the opposite side unseated and toward the middle of the rim...where the spokes are. Turns a wrestling match into a fairly easy job. : )
@@Robnord1 I learned from a lot of elbow grease😉 I did have a slight advantage though having mounted car tires at home for years. These motorcycle street tires sure do have some stiff sidewalls though.
Yes....also cruza make sure your mounting them from the right side. Some are just a pain in the ass thou. So don't feel bad. You would get it with more experience. But you don't have it. Its not something you get to do everyday unless you worked with tires doing roadside or something like that. There's guys that will have any tore mounted on any rim in 5 min
For real! It's not an easy job the first couple times. At least he only broke a tool. I bent a steel rim the first time, then tore a tube the 2nd time. Both were Shinko 706's. They are great tires for the money though! Once you get it on with some of the suggestions mentioned in some previous comments, it gets easier!
I work in a retail tire shop and we use the machines to install our own motorcycle tires. Makes life a little easier, props for doing everything yourself! Love the build brother
Yellow dots go by the valve stem while the red dots goes on the opposite side. I also use a ratchet clamp and lashing straps to compress the tires to fall in the drop center of the rim. This should give you that extra inch. Use plenty of tire lube too. If you're working too hard, then you are doing it wrong. Sit back and reevaluate the situation before you scratch up the rims.
You're right, but working on something and feeling that connection to the machine is easily worth the 20-30 bucks. Besides, once you learn you can convince a friend to pay you to put theirs on for them for a discount. Now everybody wins in the long run!
Sounds like an older bike. I ride a 85 FJ1100. Anytime I attempt anything I'm replacing the original bolts that crack or strip. Your propane torch and $10 harbor freight manual impact driver is your best friends.
When you reach that point use your hand or a couple of C-clamps to squeeze the tire beads even and almost together across from where you are prying, keeping the beads off the ridge and you will find the slack you need to finish the job.
Struggling, and then getting stressed out in mechanical work is where things get dangerous. I broke a part inside my DRZ's carb before, and my bike ended up sitting in the garage for another week and the part replacement cost me $55. I learned from it, fixed it, and rode on. 👍 Looking forward to seeing you ride that monster.
I just used the zip tie method with wd40 bought two bags of harbor freight 24 inch zip ties no special tools broke the beads with some 2x4s and my truck as a fulcrum slipped the old tire off and new one on with my hands. Love your videos CC keep em coming. 😁👍👍
Twice I tried to replace the rear tire on my Harley, it's a bias ply tire. Ridiculously hard to get off and on. But the biggest problem I had was I could never get the bead to set. Even the tire shop had a hard time with it. You tried, that's all you can do.
Zip tie method works wonders on skinnier tires. Did my R1 tires easily and my buddy’s GSXR 1000 tires. He wanted to try it the way you’re doing it. One side over the rim at a time. Told him let’s do the zip ties as I’ve done it before. Fought with it for an hour before he finally pulled the tire back off and used the zip ties. Tire on and aired up in 15 minutes. Most of the time was tying the zip ties around the circumference of the tire. I have to do a rear tire on my v rod soon which is a hell of a lot wider. Not sure if I can do the zip ties on that wide or a tire but I’ll try it.
Too big of bites when breaking over rim. And need to keep the bead under the rim all the way around the wheel as you go around. And lots of continuous lube.
You need to push the tire bead down into the drop center of the wheel. Push down on the tire opposite of where you are using the levers. Getting the tire down into the middle of the wheel will allow you to lever the last part of the bead over the wheel.
Sand tires are hard too. My son had an idea to squeeze the tire with vice clamps and it worked like a charm. I still have the shop do the SM wheels. It’s worth it.
NO-MAR CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE TIRE CHANGER . The best. You will love it. I use a Harbor freight stand and a NO-MAR bar. Works pretty good, (to broke to buy the No-Mar Tire Changer) but that’s the way to go. A tire stand is so much easier than horsing the wheel around on the floor.
the dot on the tire is because tires have a heavy spot usually. you align it with the valve stem so it makes balancing it easier and uses less weight in the end to get it balanced 👍. they sell a baja pro tool it makes putting tires on very easy, it fits through your main hub and uses leverage to get the tires on the bead (you should look into it, takes 5 minutes to change a tire, and you forgot to lube the tire or spray it with soap water to make it help to slip on.
I saw on u tube a guy use the tape method , look it up , he made it look very easy , and he did it with NO TOOLS , he taped both beads together soaped it up really good then slipped that baby right on , he had it done in like 10 minutes , hope this was helpful 🏍💨💨
tip. when working the tire on, jab your knees(or hands first to get started) into the part of tire closest to you, to push tire/bead into center most portion of rim..it relieves ALOT of pressure on the far side/side your using irons on.. i also think those blue things helped save the rims, but they take up a lot of MM clearances especially with 4 of them lol
You were doing good, I did my own tires, it's hard, but if you keep at it you will get it. I did the same to my tire bead but when it went on it aired up fine, no problems.
I appreciate the honest video CycleCruza. It helps everyone learn. Some vbloggers would have just said they tried but had to take it to the shop. After reading all the comments I'm sure you feel you can do it now. If it were me I'd buy another tire and try it again to make me feel secure that I can do it. I'm stubborn that way.
The issue was that u have to make sure the bead of the tire is pushed down on the back side. If it’s all the way against the rim, it won’t stretch. Look at the wheel and u should see an area where the bead can be pushed into. Once u do that u can arm over the other side
Sir, I feel your pain Been there, done that. Damaged my rims. When I did get the tyre on the inner tube had been damaged. Took wheel to garage and they fitted it with a new tube for a very reasonable price. Great to be able to change a tyre yourself but on some wheels you're better off letting the garage do it.
When you get to the end, you gotta press down on the opposite side of the tire so the bead isn’t agains the lip. I had the same problem before. Try it and it’ll go.
You have to make sure the bead is down in the drop out of the room as your wedging the tire over. I worked in the shop without a tire machine for a while and could do them in 15 minutes. You were also doing it while the tire was dry. It’s easy when you get the hang of it. I had to do it on custom wheels that Buchanan laced with sun rims. The key is after you wedge it over it needs to be pushed down into the dropout if you get what I’m saying
+1 for the no-mar (cycle hill to save a couple bucks) tire changer.. but, if you have a couple of clamps, use them to hold more of the bead that you already have on more toward the center of the rim.. that gives you more slack to get the last bit on.
I could feel for you while watching you try to get that tire on. Your videos are awesome and I like that you don't edit out the problems you experience along the way. I always want to go riding after watching your videos brother!
CRUZA.... I've made many tire changing mistakes myself so I have some school of hard knocks experience that may help. Ditch the rim savers they are just getting in the way, use masking tape if you are paranoid about scratching the rims. Use at least 3 bead buddies to keep the tire in the drop zone, four is better. Get a Baja-No-Pinch tool, it prevents pinch flats(I know these are tubless) and rim scratches. If you do this your tires will practically change themselves.
I dont know what youre using to lube the tire but you'll never get it without using grease. Use the bead keeper to use as a stop from the bead popping off and use your knees to hold the tire down into the rim groove. And only use one rim saver under the bar your using go in very small bites. Ive been changing tires for 8 years professionally you can do it no problem with some patience.
good honest effort, it's not easy to fit road tyres, I fit them in summer so I can heat the tyre up which greatly helps then I push down the tyre bead into the centre of the rim which gives you extra play to tire iron the remaining bead. Some rims and tyre combo's are just plain difficult though so I don't blame you for taking it to the shop. Great to see how the bike rides on the road.
I dont know what you did to the tyre before installing but you should leave it in the sun (if you have sun anymore) or somewhere else where its warm (not hot) so the tyre get more flexable
25 dollars at the shop would have saved you a lot of stress and time and probably some money in the long run. Hope fully the tire bead is okay. I know how you feel been there myself that’s why I bring my tires to the shop lol not worth the headache. Enjoyed the video
CC...don’t beat yourself up over mounting the tires man. I’ve mounted my own dirt bike tires for 15 years and I consider myself to be pretty decent at it. Even though I have all of the equipment to do it, I still pay the $20 to have the shop mount and balance my street bike tires. Street bike tires are a completely different animal! Great video man, and props to you for uploading the fail! I have to admit, I had a pretty good laugh at all of the bleeped put moments because that is exactly how I sound when doing this!
Love ya CC, no bullshit man you keep it real by showing your failures - much respect!! That baby is looking very fine and cant wait until the next instalment. Stay upright Bro.
You have to drop opposite side of the tire bead in the center of the rim to be able to slide the tire bead in. Try zip ties method to install the tire, it is save for rim and does not need those metal levers and stuff like that.
Ive had the same problem- but i put 2 Ratchet Straps @ aprox 5 & 7 O'Clock on the Bottom & Cranked the Tyre Deeper into the Rim- To allow more Space @ the top to Lever the final part of the Tyre over -It Worked for me & i was Stuck on the Side of the Road- Without the Straps- It was No Hope!!😉 👍Cheers🍺🍻
With these type of tires, you really have to get that opposite side low down under the center of the rim to get the last part on. It helps to pry it down with the bar while you pry the last part on. And you kept the tire way too dry. Gotta keep it lubed at all times. Don't use soapy water. Just use straight dish soap or pick up a bucket of actual tire mounting lube. One last tip is to do it on a hot day in your driveway and let the tires cook in the sun for a good half hour before you mount them.
It's really hard the first time especially when the tires are not warm enough even though people at tire shops can do it easily (because they got the technique right), better if you sunbathe the tires like 30mins before you put em on the rims. Ps:keep the tyres for practice .
If it is a sunny day lay the tire out in the sun for a hour before hand. Makes a noticeable difference in how pliable the tire is. You also need to push down, as much as you can, the opposite side you are trying to ply on. You also had too many rim guards that were keeping the bead high and not getting into the well. If you're not getting into the well you'll have a hard time.
Cyclecruza bro you gotta try the yamaha tire mounting lube in a spray can. I ruined a tire with just soapy water and bent my levers the first time. With that lube them things will slide right on.
When I put tires on I push the bead in to the middle of the rim on the opposite side I'm prying. Once it's tight I push it down into the middle. There's a lip where the tire sits, I push it down in by the spokes
I don’t comment a lot but this time I thought I could help. When you where mounting the tire I noticed that the bead you had under the wheel lip was not done low enough. The bead was sitting right where it normally would. You need some more the the yellow handled tool. And only needed one blue lip saver. Move it around the wheel to where you working at.When trying to mount a tire both beads should be in the middle of the wheel at the lowest spot to give the extra inch you needed to get the rest of the bead on.
@CC Bro, the meltdowns are priceless... As another sub said the fact that you still include them is the reason I continue to watch, as we have all had those moments in time no matter what we are working on..lol let's see a meltdown compilation and an update on the CBR 1000 V4 as I don't think Honda will be seeing things our way on the next release Honda RVF1000R 2019 - The Japanese Response to the Panigale V4 Enjoying the Super motto build!
Whenever I do stuff like this as soon as I start to feel frustration setting in I walk away and have a beer before I break something haha. Then dive back in with a level head.
2 tire irons needed on last push and tyre protectors need to be shifted next to each other and lift 1 then go to 2nd one while holding the lifted 1 up or do 2 at same time. p.s when you go to inflate tire you use dish soap and water to grease edge up so it will pop on to bead edge easy / learned a lot of things due to owning dirt bike valve adjustments, full suspension rebuild, chain adjustments , wheel alignments, oil changes, motorcycle wrap(giant sticker graphic for plastics instead of paint) and torque settings for nut and bolt and vehicle painting ,next is engine rebuild challenge
Feel your pain 100%. I do most of my maintenance on my bikes, but changing tires is something I hate with a passion. I have a front wheel with a tire iron hanging from it on my porch... gave it up yesterday. Installed a trials tire on the rear 3 days ago and it was 100% horror.... As for street tires: I just take them to a shop.... The moment is coming when I am getting a tire changing tool/bench/machine whatever it is called.... Hahahaha ... the cursing part :) ..... Been there, done that. When you go from almost crying to angry, to cursing, to try it again. To break tools, to break the bead.... sweating ... more angry ... then suddenly somehow it just pops on..... I HATE CHANGING TIRES .... and it goes for offroad tires too. Maxxis is the worst....
I put these same tires on my DR650 and I can confirm that they are a pain in the ass to change out. One bit of advice I can give is to use your knees to push the bead on the opposite side of the tire from where you are prying into drop center on the rim. There's a really good article about changing motorcycle tires on the RevZilla site that goes over this.
I have a feeling those rim protectors could have made it more difficult since they were pushing the tire out also i ride a beta 250rr and i clean my air filter every 1-2 rides and change my oil every 15 hours. When i had a 4 stroke i would do valve checks monthly but hardly ever was it out of spec
You have to push the opposite side of the tire into the center of the rim to move the bead up in the side your trying to mount, kneeling on the tire on the sides only holds it in place and does t let the tire move up take one tire iron stick it in the bead on the opposite side and push down and work the other side over the rim.
Didn't leave those new tires out in the sun a while until warm/hot? Works so much better. You gotta have that OPPOSITE SIDE RUBBER into the WHEEL GROOVE before there's enough slack to allow the rubber over the wheel. It will NEVER go otherwise.
Some are pretty tough. Not sure but...you could take smaller bites with the spoon. As small of bite As you can. You was about an inch away from it going on all by itslef. I couldn't see the shape of the rim but some make it pretty tough.
I just changed my XSR900 rear tire with same spoons (and a couple smaller ones) and rim guards.. I'm at 3:40 in the vid and thinking to myself, why are you trying to do that dry? Need to lube it up with water/ soap mixture! I would have never got it done if everything was dry.
Next time ..... squeeze pinch the "bottom" near your body of the wheel so that the bead of the rubber is inside the middle of the wheel where your sealant tape is . Use some big hvac zip ties to pinch it together if you have to or some big welding c clamp vice grips .That will give you the slack you need. You can't have the other side of the tire up on the bead while trying to
This is what happens when you don't know what you are doing...you need to use small wooden blocks to force the tire to the center of the rim before prying and lifting the bead over the rim. Many people damage tires trying to force it. Wouldn't all of this been avoided if you had just bought a street ready CRF450L?
If you are having troubles getting a bike tire on you are doing it wrong. You need to take small bites and make sure the bead is dropped down in the centre of the rim. For a install like this it should only take 5 minutes. It take practice.

Yes and lots more soap lol... lots more soap. Grease up the rim too. I set the tire in the sun fr a couple hours if possible too bfore startin

CC keeping it real. Uploading failures can’t be easy.
I concur. At least he tired.
Hey you win some you lose some, that's life. I keep it real even if it is sometimes humorous like this time. lol
Yes. I felt bad for the struggle, and possible damage. But what you were saying was hilarious.
Bro, watch my tyre change video. You didnt push the opposite bead down into the rims channel. You'll never get tyres on unless you do that 👍
I work in a retail tire shop and we use the machines to install our own motorcycle tires.
Looks like the reason the tire wouldn’t go on is because the bead was to high on the rim. Also the tire didn’t have enough lube.
Bead was too high on the opposite side of the wheel from where he was trying to arm it over with the bar
Needs to get a can of yamalube tire mount. Stuff works amazing.
jim k that’s exactly what I was thinking.
Agree! Maybe some big clamps or something to push that bead down into the valley on the opposite side of the tire

Cyclecruza one of my favorite motorcycle RUclips stations! Keeping it real for the people.
Why not get a sticky tire for the sumo rims? You already have wheels for dirt so why not get something that will work well on the street?
Hell yeah it’s 6am perfect time for some CycleCruza
my idea. pay a shop the measly 20 to 30 bucks and save yourself the hassle. smh
Secondly, watch RUclips videos that host people that have done this a hundred times and have learned how not to do things.
Do you not know the type of mf cycle cruza is ???
Please give the knowledge.
You're right, but working on something and feeling that connection to the machine is easily worth the 20-30 bucks. Besides, once you learn you can convince a friend to pay you to put theirs on for them for a discount. Now everybody wins in the long run!
Bike struggles are real (3 hrs on a simple brake caliper/ new pads / 😂 I almost tapped out but no I got it 👍🏻
Wow, what happened all the caliper bolts rusted into place? Takes 5 minutes to do brake pads on my bike.
Looking forward to seeing you ride that monster.
I want like 5 of these videos to come out everyday.
At least you didn't damage the rim. They look nice af!
I was praying not to mess the rim up. lol
I just scuffed my new bar ends i just bought and i was pissed , damn barend mirror had to use a press to get em in.😤
Zip tie method works wonders on skinnier tires.
CycleCruza going hood when he's mad. LMFAO. No worries man, we live and learn.
You need to push the tire bead down into the drop center of the wheel. Push down on the tire opposite of where you are using the levers. Getting the tire down into the middle of the wheel will allow you to lever the last part of the bead over the wheel.
As others have stated, these shinko tires are the hardest tires ever. They are bricks!
literally just went through the same experience trying to install my own tires. lovin the content CycleCruza
CC your break downs are soo hilarious!!!! Best one since you lost your key🤣🤣🤣 keeping it real!
I had the identical experience trying to put on the 705's I almost bent a tire iron into a U shape. Had to take them to the shop. Thick sidewalls ...
Yeah will take it to the shop.
The thick sidewalls are a good thing though, the tire will corner better on pavement, and will be more resistant to punctures on dirt.
lmao. It makes me smile when CC cries. Not because he's crying but because he's a grown man crying. xD Love you brother.
the dot on the tire is because tires have a heavy spot usually. you align it with the valve stem so it makes balancing it easier and uses less weight in the end to get it balanced 👍. they sell a baja pro tool it makes putting tires on very easy, it fits through your main hub and uses leverage to get the tires on the bead (you should look into it, takes 5 minutes to change a tire, and you forgot to lube the tire or spray it with soap water to make it help to slip on.
I don't know if you've ever seen the zip tie method, but I saw it work for someone who'd given up on mounting tires.
All good Bro. There is no failure, just lessons learned. Watch the guy at the shop so the install (steal with your eyes), np.
I could feel for you while watching you try to get that tire on. Your videos are awesome and I like that you don't edit out the problems you experience along the way. I always want to go riding after watching your videos brother!
Thanks bro! I try to keep it 100%.
Keep the tyre in sun for sometime, so the go a bit flexible and fit okay while hot and tight while cold .
I wish I did, will probably have to buy another front tire.
Auto blipper oh I get it believe me been down that road lol
CycleCruza oh that sucks hopefully it 👌
Take loose wheels with old tires on them to a shop, along with a set of new tires. Dismount, remount, balance cost upwards of $80 for a set.
$25?? I have to fork out $100 every time to get my 2 tires mounted and balanced.
I spent 2 hours putting a dirt bike tire on and on the last spoon I ripped the inner tube
I have done the same thing, this video cracked me up reminding me of that!!
Grease up the tube with belray or maxima high temp grease. The tube will slide around and not get pinched.
CC certain things are worth paying to be done. Tire mounting is one of them for sure. Sanity is priceless!!
Cyclecruza bro you gotta try the yamaha tire mounting lube in a spray can. I ruined a tire with just soapy water and bent my levers the first time. With that lube them things will slide right on.
The first time I changed tires was pretty easy... I only swore a couple hundred times!
When I put tires on I push the bead in to the middle of the rim on the opposite side I'm prying. Once it's tight I push it down into the middle. There's a lip where the tire sits, I push it down in by the spokes
yeah, tires here got like that to sometimes. nothing beats the tire changing station machine., perhaps you should get one.
Haven't seen anybody struggle so much with changing a tire :D Well you learn by doing
As another sub said the fact that you still include them is the reason I continue to watch, as we have all had those moments in time no matter what we are working on..lol let's see a meltdown compilation and an update on the CBR 1000 V4 as I don't think Honda will be seeing things our way on the next release Honda RVF1000R 2019 - The Japanese Response to the Panigale V4
Enjoying the Super motto build!
Whenever I do stuff like this as soon as I start to feel frustration setting in I walk away and have a beer before I break something haha. Then dive back in with a level head.
2 tire irons needed on last push and tyre protectors need to be shifted next to each other and lift 1 then go to 2nd one while holding the lifted 1 up or do 2 at same time. p.s when you go to inflate tire you use dish soap and water to grease edge up so it will pop on to bead edge easy /
learned a lot of things due to owning dirt bike valve adjustments, full suspension rebuild, chain adjustments , wheel alignments, oil changes, motorcycle wrap(giant sticker graphic for plastics instead of paint) and torque settings for nut and bolt and vehicle painting ,next is engine rebuild challenge
How did you do it? Even shop tire changers are saying they are tough to put on with a machine.
i use three spoons at the same time only a few inches apart taking small chuncks . still a pain but it gets done
Been there done that my brother. You had us rolling on the floor laughing.
I’m really excited for this build series
You have to push the opposite side of the tire into the center of the rim to move the bead up in the side your trying to mount, kneeling on the tire on the sides only holds it in place and does t let the tire move up take one tire iron stick it in the bead on the opposite side and push down and work the other side over the rim.
Thank you very much for show yourself in tough situations
Didn't leave those new tires out in the sun a while until warm/hot? Works so much better. You gotta have that OPPOSITE SIDE RUBBER into the WHEEL GROOVE before there's enough slack to allow the rubber over the wheel. It will NEVER go otherwise.
I'd be happy just leaving it completely stock but looks like ur happy doing all the upgrades...great videos dude!
Some are pretty tough. Not sure but...you could take smaller bites with the spoon. As small of bite As you can. You was about an inch away from it going on all by itslef. I couldn't see the shape of the rim but some make it pretty tough.
That shinko 705 rubber is the hardest rubber on a motorcycle tire I have ever felt.
While working on one side of tire, the other side should be middle of rim. There is offset on Middle of rim which gives you easier experience.
Looks like a huge pain haha! Used to be terrible putting bmx tires on back in the day. Couldn’t imagine sumo tires.
The bead on the opposite side of the irons cannot be sitting on the rim, it has to be tucked down inside to get the wrench side bead to clear
You have to keep the bead in the center of the rim so it has more room to stretch over the side.
The valves will go out of spec if you ride it hard, or bounce it off the rev limiter
Don't beat yourself up. Shit Happens! 🏁
Push the bead opposite the last part to go over the rim into the hollow in the rim, that will give you the little bit you need
At least you tried, I don't do anything mechanically I'm terrible at it, luckily my bike mechanic is half a mile away and cheap
If you are having troubles getting a bike tire on you are doing it wrong. You need to take small bites and make sure the bead is dropped down in the centre of the rim. For a install like this it should only take 5 minutes. It take practice.
