Even here, what was stoping sups from just snaging the bomb remote out of jokers hand in a milisecond and breaking it or even firing a weak heat vision beam at his hand to make him drop it or just break it altright? Even if sups is not ok to go straight for kill (he does kill but is not trigger happy about it) he could extremely easily disarm the joker and just stare at him with crossed arms and a look of disapointment. This is also kinda of a poor write on the joker because often times he is ridiculously smart and has as many contingencies, backups and twists to his plans to pull out of his metaphorical ass than batman himself.

When it comes to dealing with Batman? Yeah, Superman has learned to be cold with him. If Batman is going to play his games, Superman will drop the "boy scout" and remind him of his mortality. Because unlike Bruce, Superman doesn't have a code or a promise holding him back, just a choice.
After all, that's what they are here for with one another: to remind one another that they are not invincible and keep the other in check. Batman was leaving his check by letting Joker run wild in Superman's city, so Superman put him back in check by reminding him that only HE cares about the Joker, not Superman.

A nice little reminder of why the Injustice universe is just that: an alternate universe. 99 times out of 100, Joker will fail at threatening or corrupting Superman. Not only because Clark is genuinely smart and clever enough to not fall for the Joker’s crap, but also because Superman acknowledges that 1 in 100 chance exists. This is why he shows up at the bat cave later on to lecture Batman. Bruce of all people should have known that setting up social experiments involving the Joker is playing with fire and that he should have known better.

It's so nice to see Superman written well. He's a decent, respectful fellow with very strong moral convictions and a desire to use his strength to spend his life helping people. Superman very carefully considers his every action because his immense power allows him to do almost anything, and the responsibility is enormous. As you'd imagine, he *despises* a person like the Joker. Barely anyone is a threat to Superman, so he takes no pleasure in hurting people. He uses exactly the right amount of force, both physical and psychological, to scare the Joker into submission and make the game boring and punishing for him. He doesn't even hold it against the Joker, after Superman had judged he'd shredded the Joker's pride badly enough he was more angry at Batman for letting this guy run around endangering people.

But Superman believes that his powers give him certain responsibilities. It would be unethical for Superman to turn some mugger's head into paste, because of the hilarious power discrepancy between the two. Even here, he doesn't immediately kill Joker but plays along with his game for a little bit, because he doesn't HAVE to kill Joker to stop him. But if a villain is going to hurt thousands of people unless he's stopped immediately? Superman's responsibility is to protect people, not criminals. He'll do what he has to.

You go out there every night and you give them your best stuff ...".; it's pretty weird that he'd get upset that Superman laughed at his jokes. Maybe it's been so long since anyone (other than Harley maybe) has complimented his humor he dosen't know how to react anymore? Maybe because his humor couldn't get real laughs and make people happy, his shattered psyche now gets gratification from using his twisted humor to insult, frighten and unnerve his "audience"? But when Batman laughed at his joke at the conclusion of The Killing Joke, he seemed to enjoy it. Maybe that was because he was genuinely relieved that Batman didn't "beat the crap out of .." him? But again, here he seems almost disappointed Superman didn't get angry enough to want to hurt him. Maybe the writers intentionally use such inconsistency to make him seem more unpredictable? God I love how the illustrator is able to make Superman look pretty friendly or generally unintimidating, not even looking super buff or anything, to making him look insanely terrifying with shading around the face. Being able to see Clark's eyes almost acts as the visual way of humanizing him. Even during the part where he tells Joker he's better than him, frowning and all he still looks more like just an upset father. But as soon as you look over, his eyes being obscured by his prepping his laser vision makes him incredibly terrifying.

It could even finish with a like like "You're trying to fight an alien God, Lex. And yet, you yourself are barely more than just a man."

These two should almost be like brothers, and Batman would never put the lives of innocents at risk like that.
The stuff with Superman and Joker is great, if a bit on the nose, I think it's fair to point out that Superman doesn't kill, not as some rigid rule, but because he quite literally doesn't need to kill, if he did it would be excessive force 90% of the time, since he's so powerful, he can even take most super powered people in with little to no resistance.
Joker and Superman reminds me of Batman Beyond fighting resurrected Joker, when Terry said-
"Batman never talked to you much did he? That's probably why you were so fixated on him. I don't need a degree to figure you out. The real reason you kept coming back was because you never got a laugh out of the old man. Get a clue clowny, he's got no sense of humor. That bit about the code is important. Superman _does not have one_ like batman does. He's just a good person trying to do good things, and for the most part that means "don't kill people". This is also why superman doesn't injure people like Batman does - he doesn't believe that's good either, unless you earn that shit (which is why he backhanded batman into a car for putting people in danger to feed his ego). Batman, in contrast, will break everyone bone in your body, but he won't kill people _even when its insane or unethical not to_ because "Batman doesn't kill".

Joker is just a man. As Batman is. Batman cannot kill Joker because that would be his own end as human and, as he stated many times, if he kills even one criminal, then he would not be able to stop from using the same solution for other criminals. So...he cannot kill other humans, that would put him at the same level of criminals. And he can't even ask or allow the JL to kill Joker for him, because that would basically entitle them to feel superior to humankind, which won't do either. It would be easy on a practical level? yes, of course. But morally, it would be one hellish decision no matter how you look at it.

Superman also "does not kill" - humans especially - even without an explicitly formulated rule. He just won't allow a psychotic mass murderer to feel safe in his presence or (worse) take any form of pleasure out of interacting with him, which, in turn, is precisely the reason why Batman and Joker exist in such perfect symbiosis. They are the living embodiments of order and chaos and, in all honesty, they both have a fetish for proving their points. Clark simply breaks that cycle.

I love this. The conceited Batman thinking he's the better of them and even DARE to test Superman. This version of Superman is the one I would love to see, clever and restrain , but not indulging. He knows the kind of crap Joker is and his anger towards Batman is totally justified. Batman has failed his own test. He let Joker hurt the people he cared the most ;and has the nerve to lecture Clark. I know the plot have to make them look as equals , but Superman is FAR superior to Batman. And not just power. Batman ALWAYS fails when it comes to Joker. Jason Todd , Barbara Gordon and hundreds of people hurt or killed by the Joker are proof enough. The thing with Superman is restrain, that's his deal. He could have ripped off Joker's head without him even noticing it. The crossovers and the JLA had to nerf Superman so the Alliance is justified. Anyway, this story is a rare case of writers showing how powerful Superman really is.

Yeah, that was a case of poor writing of Batman. The idea Batman would set this up in and of itself doesn't track to me. Him not knowing in time I could buy, plenty of other things that might have him busy (Rash-al-ghoul dragging him across the planet comes to mind.) to the point that Joker has the time for this. Knowing that Bruce has such a massive 'no killing' thing, most of the scene could have been kept intact, with Superman's warning being a case of 'I know this would upset you, but you need to understand I won't play with Joker coming to my town.' instead of this. Story needed one more minor editing pass and it'd be a 10/10.
