I was lucky enough to see Divinyls many times in venues all over Australia. They were not only a proper rock band, but Chrissy had such an aura about her, very sexual, a bit scary, but also vulnerable. She could hold a mainly male audience of pissed , aggressive Aussie rock punters in the palm of her hand and control them like a lion tamer. One of a kind , greatly missed. RIP Chrissy
Chrissy was definitely one of the all time great Oz rock music singers. She had a very individual style and sound. A class act from top to bottom and incredibly missed.
I was lucky enough to see the Divinyls live in a small pub called the Picadilly Hotel Kings Cross Sydney in the early 80s.They started playing there on a Wednesday night, and as they became more popular, they progressed to Thursdays and then eventually Friday nights. If we got to the pub early enough, we would head straight for a table at the foot of the stage where we would base ourselves waiting for the band. Back then, you could buy a roast meal and a beer for about $10 and listen to one of the best bands Australia had produced at the time. After 18 months or so, we turned up one Friday night and took our regular position at the table, but the band never showed. They had outgrown that small pub and moved on to bigger and better things. Great times and great memories.
RIP Chrissy Amphlett... I worked for Event Management as concert security in 1991 and when this band played a gig at the Roxy in West Hollywood, I was on perimeter security in the parking lot. All I can say, the whole band was really nice to us. Made sure we had waters and also got the 12 of us working six pizzas!
I don't think I ever met an Aussie I didn't like. I'm sure they're out there, but I have yet to encounter them! :) This story doesn't surprise me about Chrissy and the band.
Probably one of the most influencial in the 90's ,period. Because Courtney Love admitted that how she behaved, and dressed on stage, and the whole 'kinderwhore' look was directly inspired by Chrissie, so therefore;with Courtney being THE grunge queen, and THE girl in alternative and rock during that era, it makes Chrissie the definitive influence. Even Kylie Minogue, just looking at her; took alot from Chrissie as far as how she packed on 10,0000 pounds of makeup.
Back in the day rock bands started out playing in Pubs (Public Bars in Hotels) and club auditoriums. All of it was live. You were good live, or you remained a support act. As a result the cream rose to the top, long before any record deal or TV appearances. We were blessed from the late 60's to late 80's. Live music just went downhill from there and now it's straight to video and stadiums.
Beside the fact they were a great band live, there will never be anybody like her on a stage again. She had it all, prescence, vocal ability, sexuality, looks, everything! I was head over heels with her! Shame she's no longer with us...
I love how her voice became more beautiful as she got older. Such a sad loss. Gone too soon. I saw the Dyvinyls in 1986. Amazing stage show from Chrissy. She's one performer that makes me reminisce for days gone by. So glad I had the opportunity to see her in full swing, though.
Every time I see Chrissy, I shed tears. I didn't know Chrissy, but we met and spoke for a little bit backstage at the 1991 MTV music award show at the Universal Amphitheater. My band was recently dropped from our label and I told her, jokingly, that our release from the label was her band's fault...It was a joke, but also partially true. Divinyls were pushing boundaries and doing things that were unheard of in the '90s so as a result, we were dropped for being too vanilla and not taking enough risks. Still, I was very happy to meet her. I have met many great and legendary musicians, and I never went crazy or nuts over celebrity. However, Chrissy was one of the few celebrities that made me feel like a gushy teenager! She was a lovely person and her presence was like a giant shadow looming everyone and everything! Chrissy Amphlett was simply a force of nature! I am not religious, nor do I believe in god, but part of me hopes that the life we're currently in, is just one part, of many other parts...Parts that will allow us to see the people we love once we're done here!
Rest in peace, Chrissy. Others have tried but no one came close to performing this song as you did. You got a really raw deal. Hopefully you're smiling down from heaven knowing your legacy lives on and your sisters have picked up your tourch and this song has now become the anthem for breast cancer awareness.
Man. I was just listening to other versions thinking the same thing. No one should be allowed to even try .. If ever a song fit someone like a glove, this is it.
Chrissy was hot! Had the privilege of seeing them live in Australia and let me tell you she was much raunchier on stage...great band with some great songs. RIP Chrissy Amphlett.
Chrissy was a force of nature. I got hip to the Divinyls back when Boys In Town was a minor hit. Just want to add my kudos to the bass player who’s locked down that dreamy bass line while adding the spot-on falsetto high harmony throughout. You’re a rock, Sir!
Yeah that bass line is actually the First thing I noticed about the song after I got over the shock of the lyrics, lol. I was like, "this is funny as hell, I love this!" And yeah, the harmonies make this song. Sometimes in live versions, you get the solo vox and it's just not enough. He did it all... Great bass line, perfect backing vocals. I just wished the mix they did at the Paramount studios soundstages where this was taped in Los Angeles, they dialed the guitars back *just* a touch. It's not quite so up front in the mix on the studio version. I was worried it was going to bury Chrissy's vocals but she came through in the end. 😍
First time I saw these guys was at the "Roxy" at the valley in Brisbane 1988. Was totally unprepared for the shear power that was unleashed for the next two hours, what a singer and what a band, my ears are still ringing.
RIP Chrissy Amphlett IIRC, she died of either breast cancer or pancreatic cancer. Also, in at least three clips that I've seen that she's in, including this one, she kinda resembled Chrissy Hynde of the Pretenders. Also, the blonde guy on guitar 🎸 looks like a cross between Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones and Martin Chambers of the Pretenders.
As far as I'm concerned...Crissy was one of the coolest people to have ever graced this planet! Her...as when as the skillful musicians behind her. She was a GREAT artist and performer! I remember the " Arsenio Hall Show" also and I think his introduction of "The Divinyls" was excellent as well! Love and Light to Them and to You ALL! =D
Saw them a few months after this and they were unbelievable. Best concert I've seen. Imagine 2 hours of all their songs, played to this level of excellence.

Miss Amphlett, this song, and the accompanying music video, definitely helped me through the first stages of my awkward adolescence...if y'all catch my drift! lol :D I will forever be grateful, too. Catchy tune, sexy lyrics, and a gorgeous lead vocalist...what more can you ask for?! :)
These guys were a huge band in Australia long before this song. In their earlier performances you can see just how powerful a front woman Chrissy actually was. "In My Life" is insane, you can just see the legacy left for bands like Amyl & the Sniffers.
I have nt heard this song for over 32years..It's still a very beautiful song. And the lead singer was a very beautiful woman and with an amazing body to match.

Pretty tame performance. Saw them live many times when they toured Oz - she was wild and seemingly uninhibited. Formed a great team with guitarist Mark McEntee. Lotsa good songs in their catalogue.
You know the producers told everybody (including Hall) that they needed to watch it given how sensitive US audiences are (especially back in the early 90s, lol). I saw her try to lift up her skirt a few times in this performance and you'll notice the main camera facing the stage strategically had Chrissy at the 2/3rds view from the waist up at all times. 😅
There is so much to love about this... →That high note, like a sigh, when she sings the word "about" in the chorus...heaven. →There are two awesome Les Paul guitars present, each representing one of the 2 iconic Gibson pickup types- P90s in the ebony beauty, and PAFs in the sunburst.

I've been a headbanger since my early teen years in the early 80's, but like and appreciate many other types. I was thinking along the same lines except the word "sultry" came to mind. That voice is heavenly. Too bad she passed at the same age I am today and partly of what my Dad has had since his mid 20's (MS). RIP pretty lady!
@@devanmoran Idk - It looks like he's playing bass, but when I look up photos of the band, I don't see him, or maybe I'm not recognizing him. I want to know who he is too!
Saw them in Detroit in the mid-80's, when they were harder and faster - she was crawling on all fours and smearing makeup handed up to her from audience members purses all over her face - crazy, crazy, hot mess of a girl - just what you want fronting a band - I absolutely loved their first LP "Desperate" - she burned bright-white hot, and we lost her too quickly...
Likewise. saw them at the Manhattan pub in Melbourne, (Australia not Florida). Hundreds of people stuffed into a smoke-filled cramped auditorium, up close and personal! Great stuff, we all survived. Those were the days! At the end of the gig she was so, how shall we say, tired and emotional, that she was literally carried out. That really was so sad.
I was at that show as well (I believe it was at the shelter in downtown detroit. I'm still spellbound today by her voice. I'm just glad that I got to experience them live
Hahaha...........I seen em in at world expo 88 in Brisbane. I was only 9 years old but I remember thinking she was weird crawling around the stage and stuff. Lol
Chrissy had the most unique voice and stage presence, nobody else ever came close, R.I.P
thanks to you tube this is the first time I got to know Chrissy & the band
Chrissy was def great. But Joan Jett and Lita Ford are also great. And Grace Slick! Mamma Mia!

Lol
This was my grandmothers song at her funeral 😢
Rest In Peace Grandma Faye

Giving new meaning to "Hard Rock".
The way she grips that microphone is no accident.
I love how she mimed the telephone call at the end of the song, too. 😁
